  • May 12 a Friday was the PoopMeister's birthday.
  • May 12 a Around noon, over the scanner came a Green Shirt singing Happy Birthday
  • May 12 a We received several emails on the historical birth date.
  • May 12 a Stuff like how did he make it 50 years were many. We got a good one which brought to light the painful birth since he came out wearing a Badge and pea shooter on his side.
  • May 11 a  With sunshine beaming down and dry weather predicamentated for today , don't forget the trout stocking on Buffalo this morning. Take the afternoon off, forget the grass cutting, and head out for some fun. 600 pounds of monster trout coming this morning.

  • May 11 a And this just for JR.   How come the oceans are full of salt? Answer: Ocean water is 3.3 to 3.7 percent salt on average. Most of it simply comes from Earth's land, dissolving over millions of years. Some of it comes from salty volcanic rock.
  • May 11 a Also... Is the Hierarchy of Angels listed in the Bible?  Answer: Angels loomed large in the Old Testament, and particularly prominent were the superior orders known as cherubim and seraphim; but it is in the New Testament, particularly in the letters of St. Paul, that the doctrine concerning angels is presented in greatest detail. Seven groups receive mention: angels, archangels, principalities, powers, virtues, dominions, and thrones. Along with the cherubim and seraphim named in the Old Testament, this listing gave rise to the theory of the nine choirs of angels: The Celestial Hierarchy.
  • May 11 a We've been complaining about Frontier snail speeds for months, years actually...
  • May 11 a HW rubbed it in with this email:   I am on Suddenlink here in Dixie. My download speed at 11:00 am was 4.88 mbps   My upload speed was 1.02 mbps.
  • May 9 p County Clay looks a lot different today. Most of the campaign signs are gone. Most of the little posters have been taken down.
  • May 9 p There is some gloating going on. Like in the Sch Board race, Gene King received the most votes in RB Legg's home preceinct
  • May 9 p Ditto for Mitch DeBoard who carried the incumbent's home Valley Fork precinct
  • May 9 p Wounds are licked, voters have decided our future for another four or six years, and we move on.
  • May 9 p Library Update: Commissioner Linky told the Library Director, that part about the CCC pulling insurance funding beginning July 1st, well, it was just a big miscommunications. On rethinking,  the County Commission WILL pay the liability insurance premium for another year.
  • May 9 p  Bet Link got a ton of tele calls on the subject. Stuff like, if you don't fund em, you ain't gettin my vote. Such talk has a way of changing minds.
  • May 9 p FYI  a  new air conditioner has been installed at the Library compliments grant $$$ and the place is back up and running.
  • May 9 early early  Election night in small town America remains special. Lots of people young and show up to be part of the handshaking and tears.
  • May 9 a Every vote was counted in public and all were in by 10:30pm
  • May 9 a Incumbents all returned to office.
  • May 9 a The big winner was Miles Slack with 1389 votes to Sam Morris' 248 and Julie Triplett's 150
  • May 9 a Assessor Lane 970, challenger Pete Triplett with 784
  • May 9 a Commissioner Linky returns for another 6 years 956 to Mitch DeBoard's 758
  • May 9 a Delegate Dave Walker carried the district comfortably with a 737 margin over Danny Sizemore
  • May 9 a Over in School Board Land Gene King was the top vote getter with 1384, RB Legg 1097 and Jim Perdue's 984.
  • May 9 a Here's an interesting one, Obama De Bama garnered 734 votes to Keith Judd's 801.
  • May 9 a Mr Judd is actually inmate 11593-051 and calls home , the Federal Correctional Institute in Texarkana TX.
  • May 9 a FYI and hopefully Frontier is looking, DSl speed at midnight when trying to upload the pictures and info came in at  a dead snail pace of  130 down and 29, count em all, 29 kbps.
  • May 9 a County Commission meets this morning at 10am.
  • May 8 p  Voting polls opened on time and without issue. The Sec of State's office made their usual pass thru the county early this morning.
  • May 9 p  Check back around  11 pm for results.
  • May 8  a  Be an American, VOTEVOTEVOTE
  • May 8 a Thursday evening the Clay Roane PSD will hold their monthly meeting. The agenda is posted over on the AdVISORY page. The PSD is seeking a rate increase.
  • May 8 a Want some nice flowers for Mothers' Day? Check out BOFD over on the ADVISORY page
  • May 8 a Want to be a  leader with the Lizemore FD? You guessed it, see the ADVISORY page
  • May 8 a  Compliments Communicator coverage, the world knows that the Clay County Commission swiped state funds earmarked for the Business Development Authority (BDA) , The $$$ was to be used to house an Economic Development Director and for equipment for the same person.
  • May 8 a Under the direction of Link, the CCC took the $20,000 and misappropriated the funds for his pet project, the 911 Dispatch Center.
  • May 8 a Backing up his leader, County Commissioner Mike Pierson told the BDA in April, there wouldn't be a problem if everyone kept quiet about the thievery.
  • May 8 a Last month the issue was raised by BDA Boardster Mike Evans who was concerned: the $$$ were supposed to be used by the BDA; there is still a need for the office space and or equipment; and, he didn't want the BDA to get the black eye when the State folks find out what happened to the $20,000.
  • May 8 a With similar concerns, last night, BDAer Jesse Sizemore told the economic development board that he alerted the state development office in Charleston and asked them to investigate the misappropriation of funds.
  • May 8 a According to Sizemore, the investigation began Thursday May 3rd when the Charleston folks called the County Commission and asked for details
  • May 8 a  Interesting... it was as if the rest of the board wanted nothing to do with the misuse of funds discussion. As if they just wanted the dirt to settle and quietly go away.
  • May 8 a Bad that Linky OK'd the misuse of funds but sad that the entire BDA isn't up in arms over the misappropriation of  funds.
  • May 8 a Fewer on Frontier's DSL service equates to better speed. The speediest time is between 2 and 6am. This morning at 5:30am, Frontier's DSL speed was a blazing 213 down and 56 up.
  • May 7 a It's the day before the election. Job seekers are out shoring up supporters, making sure signs are up and straight at important locations, and getting workers in order for Tuesday's big day.
  • May 7 a The local Library remains air conditioning-less. With the County Commission saying no to much needed earlier repairs like  a fire alarm system and roof, why bother asking Link again for A/C?
  • May 7 a Instead, Library Director Thorne went to Delegate Walker who in turn went across the aisle to the Senate reps. After some telephone leg work, Walker and our two new Senators secured $15,000 to cover the cost of a new metal roof, fire alarm system $7000, and  one new air conditioning unit.
  • May 7 a Great! But....
  • May 7 a As with any government  action, to get the $$ thru the layers of govt, it's going to take a couple months. How the much used Library is going to get thru two hot summer months, that's another story.
  • May 7 a  After improvements were suppose to be made last Thursday and many in the MAysel area without any DSL all weekend,  Frontier Tele DSL update
  • May 7 a Things ain't too good. Last night, 9:45pm, download 107 /  upload 96 kbps. This morning speeds were 102 down /  57 upload.
  • May 7 a A sampling of Frontier speed has been updated over on the ADVISORY page.
  • May 7 a $50+ per month and speeds not much different than dial up. Come on SuddenLink!
  • May 6 a Florists, Janitors, Printers, Engravers, Photographers.. See JOBS page for work
  • May 6 a  County Clay was all hyped up expecting this monster large moon last night. Something so large and bright it would look like the sun.
  • May 6 a Ahhhhhh.. by the time the Mr Moon came out around 10pm, didn't look any different than Friday night's version.
  • May 6 a Ramp season is just about done for another year. For those that enjoy the Spring tonic, today is the grand daddy of em all, the H E White Elem Ramp Feed. For that can take the smell but are non eaters, lots of great food available. See EVENTS page for details
  • May 6 a  Election season is about over for another cycle too. The ten days of early voting (as of 3pm Saturday) brought out near record crowds including 515 Demorats, 86 Republicrats, 70 Independents, and 1 from the Mountain party.
  • May 6 a In 2010 when there was a 20 day early vote period, 607 marked ballots before election day.
  • May 6 a Fabion Brown is one of our colorful folks in the Nation of Clay.
  • May 6 a Last week Brown underwent major surgery and came out in good shape. Should be out of CAMC sometime in the middle of this week.
  • May 6 a No they didn't take out his getting in trouble real quick streak. Good Fab should be back giving out wittle Sheriff double H in a few weeks.
  • May 6 a With politicans using every outlet to spread not so true statements, ho about some truth
  • May 6 a Prez Obama De Bama added $6.5 trillion to the national debt. Wrong O for now
  • May 6 a Obama De Bama's stimulus plan sent tax credits overseas including a half billion to create jobs in Finland. Once again just Corporate Republicrats at their worst.
  • May 6 a How about the so called fact that  another $1.2 billion was sent to Mexico for a solar plant down there? Truth is $$$ went to Claifornia
  • May 6 a Gas prices are way up due to Wall Street speculators linging their pockets and not production costs, labor, or EPA regulations. The prices up due to the greedy Wall Streeters.
  • May 5 a Thursday morning Frontier Tele, the provider of much of the DSL service in Clayberry was suppose to do an upgrade guaranteed to improve service. Since then, many in the county are going without service.
  • May 5 a In Maysel area, several customers have been told that DSl will not be restored until sometime Tuesday.
  • May 5 a Maybe going without any DSL will make us more accepting of snail service
  • May 5 a Today is the final day of early voting over at the Courthouse. While other counties report low turnout, not so here. Over 600 voters exercised their right to vote before closing time Friday.
  • May 5 a Lets see now... CHS Elimination Dinner this evening and don't forget one of the finest ramp eating events of the year happens Sunday afternoon down at HE White Elem School.
  • May 5 a We've got some drizzle in the air this morning. For those that planted flowers and garden items yesterday or need their cisterns or wells refreshed, Come on rain!
  • May 5 a Got an email or two complaining that we're too rough on Slinky.
  • May 5 a Tough stuff clickers. Here's another problem with our up for reelection Commissioner Linky Poo.
  • May 5 a With many local funds going into the pie in the sky 911 Center beside the Courthouse, needed service are being short funded.  A month or so ago the CCC voted to fund the local Library $12000. That's actually a little more than last year. The vote was done in public as it should be and sounds pretty good.
  • May 5 a Behind the scenes and without a public vote, Linky emailed over to the Library that, true the $$$ are coming, but with a change. Beginning July 1, the CCC will NOT pay for insurance coverage.
  • May 5 a When you take off the $2500 or more a year for fire, liability, coverage, the County Commission is actually providing LESS to the county's only public library.
  • May 5 a Reduced funding and done in secret. That's what's wrong with Linky in office.
  • May 4 a  Orvis “Chick” Moore, 85, of Duck, see OBITUARY page
  • May 4 a  Sandra Gay Brown 49 of Ovapa, see OBITUARY page
  • May 4 a Got something important and fun this evening.
  • May 4 a Special Olypics is hosting Basket Bingo games over at the CLay Lion's Club Casino on Main Street. Great cause and great fun. See events page for more
  • May 4 a Saturday is the final day for early voting over at the Courthouse. We don't have an exact count but turnout for the no excuse ballot marking has been great this year.
  • MAy 4 a Don't take a chance on being sick May 8th. Vote today
  • May 3 a Happy birthday wishes to Beth Duffield and Melinda Isacs.
  • May 3 a  Our County Commission Prez Linky has been the center of attention for the last few weeks replacing the Sheriff as the Boob of the day. Now the latest update on what's wrong with leadership in CLayberry
  • May 3 a The Clay County Library is much needed in these parts. With lots of unrestricted computer connection, meeting room, clean atmosphere, it's a place with great use.
  • May 3 a Yesterday the Library had to close due to a broken air conditioner. Today the temp is predicted to raise past 90 degrees. Warmer weather is coming.
  • May 3 a Without mention during a County Commission meeting, Link sent out a letter to the Library last month stating that the County Commission will no longer provide insurance coverage on the place after June 30 2012.
  • May 3 a That comes on top of providing a big fat NO on covering the cost of a broken fire alarm system there and an absolute rejection of staff funding.
  • May 3 a Here's the way that last part works.
  • May 3 a  State government matches local funding just about dollar for dollar. Local funding comes from places like the CCC and school system. Without those local $$$, state $$$ are reduced. Last year the Pentagon went beyond the call to duty by providing extra $$$ when the CCC refused to cough up enough money for full state funding.
  • May 3 a This year the CCC is once again saying no to proper funding of the much needed asset.
  • May 3 a The County Commission owns the Library building on Main Street.
  • May 3 a Under the direction of Linky or General Linkster as the Communicator is calling him in the latest edition, the CCC  is ignoring roof needs, replacing the fire alarm, now insurance coverage, and local funding matches to leverage state grant dollars.
  • May 3 a We have a ballot box decision to make May 8th.
  • May 3 a  Giving Big Coal millions in tax breaks, raising property taxes on private property owners, out of county hires, backroom plans to implement zoning after the election, and now refusing to support a much needed asset, Link is making the voters' decision much easier to decide.
  • May 3 a Early voting continues today at the Courthouse
  • May 3 early a  First an Ooooops
  • May 3 early a   In the latest Communicator we published a picture of a Clayberry house / land and cited the very low assessed value. We printed the house sets on 50 acres. we should have printed the house sets on .50 acres or a half acre.  .50 or 50 acres, the assessed value is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay low.
  • May 3 early a  Word has it that Frontier Tele plans to switch DSL customers over to a new system sometime around 4 am today. Supposedly, the new gear will increase band width, speed.
  • May 3 early a At 11pm, Wednesday, over in Maysel land, download speed was 88 down and 34 up.
  • May 3 early a Thinking it couldn't possibly be that slow, we checked again at 11:15 pm. The speed then came in at 328 down and 20 kbps up.
  • May 3 early a On this date in history    1654: First toll bridge (toll for animals began), Rowley, Massachusetts;    Born 1921: Sugar Ray Robinson (boxer); Born 1933: James Brown (singer); 2008: Dale Davis, a legally blind 78-year old man from Alta, Iowa, bowled a perfect game during league play
  • May 3  On Wed, early voters showed up in droves to cast their ballots.
  • May 3 early a  Eating lettuce with your dinner is supposed to be calming, helping you to sleep and have pleasant dreams. Some say you should not have vinegar with your lettuce.
  • Mandarin oranges are soporifics, so consider adding them to your evening meal to help insomnia
  • .
  • May 2 p  Once again, if you would like something listed over on events, advisory or classified pages, email the info. The 19th century web guru does not do facebook look ups
  • May 2 p While some in the county say, nobody reads this site (or Communicator for that matter), Delegate Walker does
  • May 2 p Last night CAEZ Director Connie Lupardus reported to her Board and those in the peanut gallery, construction of the new Hartland bridge wouldn't get started until July 2013.
  • May 2 p We posted that info during our morning news post.
  • May 2 p Didn't take long for Walker to get on the horn and get the real poop.
  • May 2 p Not sure where or when Big Lup got her info but it's wrong
  • May 2 p According to Walker, construction bids on the Hartland bridge, soon to be known as the Jones Brothers bridge, are now being bided; the contract will be awarded June 5th  2012; and, the contractor will begin work by July 1st.
  • May 2 p Appreciate having Walker on the job and pressing hard to keep the State Road folks on the ball.
  • May 2 p  Not to downplay the Delegate but most of the info is available online at the DOH web site under "letting bids". Here tis right here. Look for contract 0413846, bridge 10962
  • May 2 p For Ms Lupardus and anybody else wanting the straight scoop, call Howard Mullins office at 304 558-3505 and ask for Lori.
  • MAy 2 a Typo's galore, spelling luke warm at best, poor  grammar and run on sentences are the norm, with that being said....
  • May 2 a  The latest bestest yet Communicator made it out the door Tuesday afternoon and chocked    full of the information that makes many say, I don't believe it!
  • May 2 a Sadly we reply, hard to believe but absolutely true to the bone
  • May 2 a Last night during a CAEZ, the Board voted to accept terminating the lease for the community college occupation over at the old Valley Fork Elem school.
  • May 2 a The hope is to keep Kanawha Valley Technical college in there but in a much reduced capacity, but just offering workforce prep classes.
  • May 2 a A couple weeks back Delegate Walker commented that he had been in a meeting where Glenville College expressed an interest in setting up shop in Clayberry
  • May 2 a And a head scratcher from the CAEZ meeting. According to their Director and based on a recent conversation with State Road officials, the Hartland Bridge, the 90 year old span that is ready to fall down, it is scheduled for construction in July....
  • May 2 a That's July 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • May 2 a  That's quite a change from what County Commission reports have brought us. According to those guys who say that the bidding for the much needed bridge would be done in April 2012 and construction to get underway THIS summer.
  • May 2 a
  • APril 30 late p  Kenton Leon “Kenny” Mosley, II, 54, see OBITUARY page
  • April 30 late p We corrected Mr Taylor's spelling.
  • April 30 late p  No updates until we get the next juicy Communicator out the door sometime Tuesday afternoon.
  • April 30 p Very Special Birthday Wishes to Rex Taylor of Harrision. Want to send a birthday card? Mail to  10845 Widen Ridge Rd Clay 25043
  • April 30 p  From the email bag: Lost  1 yr old female bluetick beagle from Hansford Fork. missing on Saturday, Reward for information regarding the disappearance and return.. 587-7998
  • April 30 p  REWARD   stolen craftsman weedeater with chainsaw end on it reward is $100 cash please call 1-3045874025 with any info you have.
  • April 30 a We're polishing off the month of April and getting ready for a new one. Yesterday evening a four wheeler wreck brought reality back to Spring. It makes sense to be careful.
  • April 30 a Several people are sending over events referencing facebook postings. Won't work. You have to email classifieds, events, and the like. Sorry
  • April 30 a Coming this week, CAEZ , Library , and Town Council meetings as well as the next edition of the Communicator. If  you didn't pick up a copy of the last edition, you should. This time around builds on the front page zoning coming our way article.
  • April 30 a  Nearly 300 people voted during the first three days of early voting now in progress at the Courthouse. Why take a chance on being sick, car breaking down, or worse on May 8th. Vote now Vote often.
  • April 27 p 52% of all registered voters are Demorats and that number is declining
  • April 27 p  29% of the voters are Republicrats and that number has increased just a tad since 2004.
  • April 27 p The big growth area is the number of those registering as Independents. That number has doubled during the last few years and now amounts to 17% of all West Virginia ballot markers.
  • April 27 p In this state, an Independent voter can ask for either a Demo or Repub ballot. For instance, in this Primary election, there are no choices for Republicrats to mark in this County.
  • April 27 p Have drugs you no longer use? Someone passed away and want a lawful way to dispose of their narcotics?     Saturday from 10 to 2, no questions asked, Drug Take Back Day in front of the Courthouse.
  • April 27 p There's plenty to do this weekend in Clayberry. Why not bring your tent and camp over at the JG Bradley Campground then take in some great things to do.
  • April 27 p There's still plenty of trout in Buffalo Creek and Lake Sampson.
  • April 27 p Tonight Paul Cottrell's bluegrass group will perform up at Big Otter Community Center
  • April 27 p Pig Roasts, Bingo, Yard Sales one every corner... Come visit the Great Nation of Clay this weekend.
  • April 27 p When Assessor candidate Peter Triplett made public that the current Assessor was planning to retire and had already purchased a retirement home down South, he created a nightmare for incumbent Teresa Lane.    With early voting in progress, Lane is trying comback efforts.
  • April 27 p Triplett, Lane,  and others have their vehicles covered with campaign signs and parked right in front of the Courthouse where early voting is now taking place.  Yesterday, Lane's vehicle was not there on Main Street.
  • April 27 p  Yesterday, Election officials received complaints on campaigning too close to a polling place. Violation?    No so according to the Sec of State's office. The law is black and white. Parking on the far side of a public roadway ain't no violation.
  • April 27 p  Also, all workers in the County Clerk's office wear polo shirts and T's embrodiered with the name of the office and their name. They've been doing that for quite some time.
  • April 27 p Calls went to Charleston that Triplett was campaigning inside the Courthouse by wearing the "company" shirt.   Trangression? No so according to the Gold Dome in Charleston
  • April 27 p Anonimous blogs like Topix offer nothing of substance. It appears the Lane encampment is now working the blog sphere in an attempt to take back some ground before the May 8th Pirimary Election.
  • April 27 p Election Season, a great time of year!
  • April 26 p Over 100 voters came up Wed for the first day of no excuse make your mark today voting.
  • April 26 p Have you? Why take a chance on getting sick and missing your chance to have a say in the future of Clayberry.
  • April 26 p Radio station came back on Thursday afternoon. Turns out the station manager over there didn't know what he was doing..... again.
  • April 26 p 10:35pm  Over in Maysel, Frontier DSL speed : 395 down and 59 up.
  • April 26 p   Word on the street has it that the Railroad group would be closing down their much needed campground over at Dundon.
  • April 26 p BC&G RR Co Op Prez Jerrold Murphy say, ain't so. True the caretaker is moving out this month but according to Mr Murphy: we can only say whether or not we will continue to subsidize the operation, and provide volunteer labor. So if it is to be closed May 1, I guess that would have to come from CAEZ, not from us.
  • April 26 p We're getting emails in support of the County Commission hiring an out of county applicant for the 911 Director job. The jest of em, we don't care where the employees come from , we just want quality folks running the ship.
  • April 26 p Always glad to receive emails and keep em comin'.
  • April 26 p On the topic of  Larry Darryl and Darryl trying to operate the election year folly...
  • April 26 p Some in the county have been quite verbose that if the dispatch center is moved to County Clay, we can do a better job. Currently, there are a couple well trained dispatchers on duty to serve us over in Nicholas County.
  • April 26 p Commissioner Linky has made it clear, when the  costly local center opens, they intend to operate with just one dispatcher on duty or at least until some law changes in 2013 forcing us to have two on duty. Let's see now, we have a brush fire, some one not breathing, and a Badge needing information... one dispatcher is going to go over reaaaaaaaaaaal well.
  • April 26 p In attempt to make the center look affordable, the least amount of equipment from the cheapest vendor with the fewest number of employees.
  • April 26 p Our guesstiment remains: the  Clay County 911 Dispatch Center will cost over $350,000 a year to operate (that's more than we bring in from voluntary fees on the telephone bills), and $1/2 million to set up the place.
  • April 26p Once again, from the git go, we're venturing into uncharted waters with the Caption of ship completely without ANY experience.
  • April 26 p That Captain of the ship is up for re election this time around and may not even be around to watch the bank account sink and new fees have to be added.
  • April 26p Who suffers, Yelp, the citizen's of this county. Last person out, turn off the light bulb.

  •
  • April 26 9am  Frontier DSL in Maysel 412 down and 234 up. Wow!
  • April 26 a 9:06 am, No Frontier DSL
  • April 26 a We get emails from clickers concerning the slow or no internet connectivity in County Clay compliments Frontier Tele Co. We approached Delegate Dave Walker about twisting the arm of SuddenLink  Cable Co to extend service throughout the county.
  • April 26 a After explaining that the Frontier issues are killing local businesses, Walker said he would get to work on the problem.
  • April 26 a Yesterday morning's County Commission was not the usual hide in the back done deal when it gets started, borin>
  • Transfer interrupted!

ls found out what the elected leaders were going to do.
  • April 26 a In addition to an awards ceremony for our two State Champion CHS wrestlers, Justin Triplett and Alex Suite, there were plenty of fireworks when locals protested the hiring Denver Brown , an out of county man, to fill the 911 Dispatch Center Director's job.
  • April 26 a Since Linky came up with the notion that this county could afford and manage it's own emergency dispatch service, Larry Darryl and Darryl have all three said, we're going to hire locals to fill the positions. Local jobs for the local economy was the battle dry from up front.
  • April 26 a Denver Brown was raised in this county and attended CHS. That was several years ago. Since then the guy moved to Kanawha County where he bought a home and holds a job.
  • April 26 a After the lad's name was made public yesterday those in the know questioned the now public decision. Truth is, our local country bumpkins had done their home work before hand and knew the guy's driver's license showed a Cooper's Creek Rd in Kanawha County address as did Kanawha County Assessor documents indicating  the home down there as a primary residence.
  • April 26 a During the warmed up discussions, Brown said he paid taxes here and still lives here.
  • April 26 a As far as we can tell, there are no Clay County property tax slips to confirm his statement.
  • April 26 a  Linky Poo told the crowd, "He's a Clay County Boy!!!" Other than Darryl and Darryl, no one was buying it.
  • April 26 a Additionally, there's salary problem. Ads for the job stated the pay scale would be $31,000 to $35,000. Mr Brown was hired at $38,000.  All kinds of red flags went up in the peanut gallery. Concerns came that had that new salary been advertised, others may have been interested in applying for the new job. No way came the reply from Linky. Our head leader said the pool of applicants was great and no other applicants were needed!
  • April 26  a After the CCC told Brown he had the job, he quit his Kanawha County position. THat was last week.
  • April 26 a  For those that don't know, all decisions made by the County Commission have to be made during a public meeting. The decision to hire was done secretly, without benefit of a public meeting setting, and without a meeting agenda. any one of those unlawful acts could be taken to Circuit Court and tossed .
  • April 26 a Brown might be a fine guy and make a great Director but when our local leadership says one thing, they're going to hire locals, and then does another, we see thru that right away and get steamed up a bunch.
  • April 26 a If that hire wasn't enough, the next hire on the agenda, this time a worker for the Clay Ambulance Service, yelp, another hire from out of county.
  • April 26 a After the meeting, one lady said she was going to get a Braxton County PO box number address so she could get hired in the Nation of Clay!
  • April 26 a For those wanting a job, see the JOBS page where Calhoun County is looking to hire dispatchers.
  • April 26 a Politicans seeking office don't want controversy just before an election.
  • April 26 a Commissioner Slinky ain't doing so well in that category. With our announcement that the CCC is quietly planning to implement zoning right after the Primary Election and now the hiring of out of county workers, Link's voter base is shrinking quickly.
  • April 26 a And boy, we hate that for the guy!
  • April 25 a There's a lot of problems in County Clay. From the inside out, it looks like we have plenty more than most other places
  • April 25 a The Communicator and this web site place the finger squarely on the backs of paid leadership.
  • April 25 a Whether it's the Commish Prez voting to add $12m in tax burden on private property owners, holding secret meetings, mismanaging our grant dollars to his own benefit, or now, hiring and paying outside his promises.....
  • April 25 a Whether it's the Sheriff using flawed judgment and high speed chases, handing out unlawful Christmas bonuses or being so careless that a bad guy drives away with a Blue Light Mobile....
  • April 25 a Whether it's the school system massaging performance into something its not....
  • April 25 Or the Assessor providing reduced assessment deals to some and leaving others high and dry while she and a Deputy Assessor campaign on company time down at the bus garage Monday morning.
  • April 25 a Today is the first day for voters to have their say.
  • April 25 a Today if the first day to vote early over at the Courthouse.
  • April 24 a Snow's gone and the sun's out. Delegate Dave Walker's latest Legislative Update column is now posted over on the ADVISORY page
  • April 24 a If you're looking for someone to cut grass or can do such work, email info today and we'll post over on the JOBS page
  • April 24 a County Commission meets Wed morning. With first word spreading that the CCC will soon consider zoning laws for this county and the recent hire of an out of county person for the 911 Director's position, sure to be  good meeting.
  • April 24 a As for zoning and the government's ability to tell you when, where, and what kind of improvements you can do on your own private property.... the average guy on the street doesn't understand the slippery slope of government regulation.
  • April 24 a Called a flood plain ordinance, it doesn't matter if you live on top of a mountain or creek side, the ordinance, zoning. applies to you.
  • April 24 a Calhoun county made the big mistake of implementing zoning in that county. Here's an online notice to Calhoun county taxpayers that lets them know, before you can do ANYTHING to your property, the government has to come and inspect what you're up to. Don't miss the part about paying a permit fee before electric can be even hooked up.
  • April 24 a Our local Commission under the current leadership is heading down that same path.
  • April 24 a We had to wait until 10:17 this morning to do a web post. Before then, Frontier's internet speed was all but none existent. At 10:17 this morning, the Maysel area was served with a blazing 380 kbps download and 112 up speed.
  • April 24 a With that up speed, adding pictures to this site is all but impossible.
  • April 24 a Come on SuddenLink!
  • April 23 p Commissioner Link's election year push has been the creation of a costly 911 Dispatch Center beside the Courthouse. The idea (no matter the cost) is to have a nice photo op before the May 8th election.
  • April 23 p From the get go, Team Link has said they want the center here to create local jobs. At several meetings Larry Darryl and Darryl proudly boosted that 4 or 5 full time jobs and many more part time Clayonians will be hired when the place is opened.
  • April 23 p Newspaper ads went out for the 911 Director's position. The listing provided job duties and top pay range.
  • April 23 p  Last week the CCC interviewed four candidates for the 911 Director's position. Those turned down, those that actually lived in Clayberry, were notified at the end of last week.
  • April 23 p Wed morning is the next County Commission meeting. The agenda calls for naming the successful applicant and announcing his salary.
  • April 23 p For those attending or otherwise, remember, the whole idea was to hire LOCALS, to boost the local economy, to keep the money in this county.
  • April 23 p IF the hire goes to an out of county person, that along with fingering $20,000 from the BDA for the 911 Center, and the upcoming county zoning  vote,   May 8th could be a reaal bad day for the Slinkmeister.
  • April 23 a  A bunch of Clayonians spent the last few days planting Spring>
  • Transfer interrupted!

blaze Saturday with early planters buying up cold sensitive plants like peppers and tomato. Man oh man, the freshly turned dirt with brought green plants in nice neat rows, beautiful.
  • April 23 a Hanging baskets of colourful flowers were also scarfed up. Little ole ladies left and right wanted the fresh color as they rushed winter away for another year.
  • April 23 a Mother Nature doesn't get in a hurry clickers.
  • April 23 a Temps this morning around 34 and a dusting of wet ice and snow coupled with even lower temps expected tonight and more snow ....

  • April 21 late p The same reason many are suffering in the Frontier Tele Co service area!
  • April 21 late p At 8:50 tonight the download speed was 163 and up was 56/  At 9:15 pm Frontier provided a whopping fast 174 down and 57 up.
  • April 21 late p It felt like the passing lane on the interstate at 9:30pm when downloads raced along at 294 with uploads coming in at 82!
  • April 21 late p We do have some news. Word has it that SuddenLink cable company is building into the Town of Clay over thru Maysel and then headin' back down Rt 4 to complete the loop to Clendenin.
  • April 21 late p If that happens, it'll be a new day on Clayberry or at least part of Clayberry.
  • April 21 a With a hint of rain in the air, happy Saturday morning to each and all.
  • April 21 a Tonight Harold and Terri Allen are performing down at Taylor Books in Charleston as well as Landau Murphy over in Summersville. Enjoy Spring 2012. Get out and do something today.
  • April 21 a TV news crews were back in County Clay Friday. The center of attention was once again our always huggable, Top Badge.
  • April 21 a Look for the Sheriff to make a TV appearance on TV-13 Sunday morning during the Decision Maker show with Bray Cary.
  • April 21 a  For those wondering, the definition of Clodhopper is , a rude rustic fellow.
  • April 21 a On average, states that don’t levy personal income taxes had more job growth during the past decade than the national average.
  • April 21 a On this date in history, in 1910, Mark Twain died.
  • April2 1 a Twain: Be good and you will be lonesome
  • April 21 a Twain:   When we are young we generally estimate an opinion by the size of the person that holds it, but later we find that is an uncertain rule, for we realize that there are times when a hornet's opinion disturbs us more than an emperor's.
  • April 19 a Welcome to the 110th day of the year. 18 hours of a light drizzle yesterday is bringing out gardens and flowers. Great.
  • April 19 a It's also bringing up the weeds and God's smack to man, the lawn.
  • April 19 a What's going on in Clayberry? Today and tomorrow all the little teenyboppers are preparing for the Clay High Prom. In small town America, nails are being done, hair is getting styled, guys are trying to find something other than boots to wear with their Tux.
  • April 19 a Time to shine up the vehicle, figure out how to tie  a  necktie, and get someone to buy you a 12 pack for after prom action,
  • April 19 a Most kids have figured out, the WesTest thang, it doesn't affect them one bit and it's really just something the Pentagon worries about.  For all intent and purpose, school is over for students. It's time for field trips, movies, and screw off time.
  • April 19 a from the email bag: I was at the Huntington Band Festival today, and one or two of judges who had adjudicated at the Chapmanville Band Festival said both Clay High School and Clay Middle Schools were two of the best prepared bands that participated at the event.  Since I am a retired band director, and Clay is where I first started, it made me proud to hear those comments.  To the directors, and the band members,  I would like to say, Congratulations.  Getting one ratings is not easy, and takes a lot of dedication.  Keep up the good work!  Gerald Simmons, Hurricane, WV.  gerald.simmons@hotmail.com     PS:  If there are any Moore's, Griffiths, Rogers, Shamblins, Stalnakers, Simmons, or Jenkins in your bands, you are probably related to me.
  • April 19 a  from the email bag:  CONGRATULATIONS TO WESTLEY MULLENS  LIZEMORE FIREFIGHTER/EMT FOR BEING ACCEPTED TO WVU MEDICAL SCHOOL
  • April 19 a Farmer's Almanac: If everybody has their wisdom teeth yanked out, why do we have them in the first place?
  • April 19 a  Other than providing dentists and oral surgeons with a steady source of income, wisdom teeth are useless to us now, but our ancestors needed them. Primitive human beings ate meats so tough that the extra molars in the back of the mouth aided them in ripping and chewing the flesh. As humans evolved, our brains became larger (well, for most of us) and our face positions moved farther downward and inward. Our protruding jawbones moved backward, making the jaw itself shorter -- hence, no room for those back teeth! Most people's jaws no longer have the capacity to accommodate these teeth and, thank goodness, we don't need them for meat-eating.
  • April 19 a  Farmer's Almanac   if you cut your hair on a full Moon, your hair grows healthier and faster. Is this true?
  • April 19 a  According to folklore, if hair is cut during the Moon's waxing phase (between new and full), growth is encouraged. The opposite will occur if hair is cut during the waning phase (the day after the Moon is full to the day before it's new).
  • April 19 a On this date...   Born 1968: Ashley Judd (actress); Born 1979: Kate Hudson (actress); 1995: Oklahoma City bombing
  • April 19 a   1775: The American Revolution began with the first shot fired at Lexington (no one knows from which side). The "shot heard round the world" (a reference from Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem "The Concord Hymn") occurred at the North Bridge in Concord later that same day. It was the first exchange where colonial militiamen were ordered to fire upon British soldiers.

  • April 18 p   Does anybody else wonder, with all the new treatments, why is there more cancer today than 20 years ago?
  • April 18 p We might want to check what we rub, smear, spray, wipe on our bodies.
  • April 18 p It's called pinkwashing. That's a term used to describe companies that position themselves as leaders in the fight against breast cancer while engaging in practices that may be contributing to rising rates of the disease. We’ve all seen the beauty products dressed up with pink ribbons and cute promotions. Unfortunately, many of these same corporations continue to use chemicals that are linked to cancer. For instance Avon, Revlon and Estee Lauder.
  • April 18 p  Safe Cosmetics .org offers a list of common products we use and their troubling ingredients. Use the advanced search feature near the bottom of that page.
  • April 18 p Don't forget about the little snot lickers either.  Product tests released by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics in March 2009 found two chemicals linked to cancer, 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde, in dozens of bath products for babies and kids, including Sesame Street character brands and even the iconic "pure and gentle" Johnson's Baby Shampoo. None of the products tested listed 1,4-dioxane or formaldehyde on the label. Two and a half years later, Johnson's Baby Shampoo is safer in some countries, but not everywhere. Our October 2011 analysis of this product in 13 countries found formaldehyde-releasing chemicals have been replaced in some parts of the world, but not in the U.S. or Canada, among others. For more push here.
  • April 18 a From the email bag:  the CCHS Concert Band received a "Superior" rating this year at the Region V Band Festival in Chapmanville.  They received straight 1's from each of the three judges scoring a perfect score on a scale of 1-5 (1best-5 worst). These students have something to proud of today!  Receiving a superior rating is equal to winning a regional or state championship in the world of music. It shows what our students are capable of doing at Clay High and I am very proud of them.      Brian Burge    CCHS Band Director

  • April 16 a  Want sweeter onions?   If your onions are too strong and spicy, you haven't watered them enough. Don't be fooled by healthy-looking green stalks. The stalks will be green even if the onions are too dry. The secret to sweeter onions is water, water, water.
  • April 16 a  Can you use last season's seeds this year?    Sure, if they are not more than four to five years old. All the seeds might not germinate, but you'll have plenty that do. By contrast, pepper and corn seeds last only about two years.
  • April 16 a   PUZZLE:  I am a word of four letters; in me may be found a verb, an animal, a viscid liquid, a science, a conjunction, and a preposition.      Answer below.
  • April 16 a If you're waiting on local government to do good, you've been waiting 154 years and counting. Around Clayberry, it is always hard working volunteers who make it happen. For instance.....
  • April 16 a  In the Northern end of the county,  at the Big Otter Community Center, each Friday night volunteers open the doors for great music, food and dancing. Friday night was no exception.
  • April 16 a Also in the North, Big Otter Fire Dept volunteers put on a heck of a ramp feed Sunday afternoon in addition to protecting the citizens.
  • April 16 a Saturday morning a very small band of volunteers organized and ran the Lake Sampson Fishing Derby for the kids. With nice weather and plenty of freshly stocked trout, over 200 kids and parents enjoyed a morning at the lake. Best of all, every kid there received a nice gift of their choosing.
  • April 16 a Each year there's a ton of work done to the Little League Field at Dundon. This year new dugouts were built on the T Ball field as well as brand new fencing. Saturday afternoon teams from the county and region came to Dundon for opening day fun. Moms Dads, Grandparents working hard for the future of County Clay. Their continued efforts are often overlooked.
  • April 16 a Just think what it would be like if the County Commission invested in the volunteers that do the heavy lifting. Instead, Larry Darryl and Darryl continue robbing the piggy bank for costly election year antics.
  • April 16 a From the Farmer's Almanac: Where would one get a "kit and caboodle" and why would you want one?     The words "kit" and "caboodle" have Dutch origins. A "kit" was a tankard or drinking cup. A "boedel" was a general term used to mean one's property or household effects. Later, "kit" became synonymous with the pack of tools a soldier carried. "Boodle" became slang for money, especially tainted money. Various permutations of these two words evolved and now they are used together to indicate "a whole lot" or "everything and everyone."

  • April 13 a That old lawnmower you say you're going to fix.... how about that broken table in need of repairs for the last 2 years .... or alasss a lack,  that favorite but broken drill, light, hammer, lawn chair.... it's time to toss em. Today and Saturday the Solid Waste Authority is holding the once a year, Get rid of the Junk days .  They're taking about anything but propane tanks. See EVENTS page for details.
  • April 13 a It's a full day of fun tomorrow when a hard working group of volunteers host the Youth Fishing Derby over at Lake Sampson followed by the Little League Season Opener over at Dundon Field.
  • April 13 a With the JG Bradley Campground open for business, it's a great time to come to Clayberry and spend a couple days.
  • April 13 a  Getting govt folks to communicate with taxpayers is a real problem in County Clay. For instance on Monday Queen Shoals PSD water service stopped in the Glen area. For well over a day and a half, the tank and lines were dry. During that time, no notice was provided customers.
  • April 13 a When service was finally restored, and crud was running thru the pipes, again, no notice, no boil water order was issued.
  • April 13  a   With many elderly and sick people in the service area, safety should always be priority one. It ain't for customers of Queen Shoals PSD.WV Water Company down in Charleston provides the wet stuff for QSPSD.
  • April 13 a  Yesterday we posted on the top secret behind the scenes County Commission meeting held two weeks ago where new flood plain maps were received and first talks were held to implement zoning in Clay County. We put the monkey squarely on the back of the Commission Prez Slinky who when asked, refused to even acknowledge the unlawful meeting was held.
  • April 13 a Expect first official word of the plan to come right AFTER the May 8th Election. When you see Slinky out on the campaign trail, you might want to ask why he's so secret about zoning and more important, back on March 17th 2007, where over 300 showed up to a public hearing to say no to zoning (flood plain ordinance) law and what part of NO did he not hear?
  • April 13 a After yesterday's post, emails came explaining that zoning regs are on the books around the country and may even help grow an area.
  • April 13 a Regs are important just not these. Here's what they amount to...
  • April 13 a If implemented, you will have to get a permit before starting any repairs around the house or property. For those living in flood plain areas, and that's a bunch of us, the govt will tell you what you can do with your own property and whether you can add that outhouse, garage, porch, and more.
  • April 13 a  During the last effort for a flood plain ordinance in 2007, it came to light, the govt would have mandated that some houses and trailers would have to be moved or put up on stilts before ANY addition could be built.
  • April 13 a Private, heavily taxed, and then the taxers tell you what you can do with it.
  • April l 13 a Zoning is not for everybody.
  • April 13 a Before you vote, be sure to ask Linky if he supports flood plain ordinance zoning.
  • April 12 a The two states with the highest rates of teen pregnancies are Mississippi and New Mexico.  Neither state requires that sex ed be taught in schools.  Mississippi law stipulates that when sexual education is taught, that abstinence be the main method of contraception proscribed. 37 states currently mandate that all sex education include information on abstinence, 26 of whom insist that abstinence be taught as the main method of pregnancy prevention. More here.
  • April 12 a The local radio station is doing something interesting tonight. They're holding their monthly Board meeting live and on air. Listen in beginning at 6pm. Talk about transparency!
  • April 12 a  And now the other extreme.
  • April 12 a  Back in 2007, Big Suits from Charleston came to Clayberry and told the County Commission that this county MUST vote in a New Flood Plain Ordinance (FPO). The guy all but said the world will end without implementing "zoning" in County Clay.
  • April 12 a At first the County Commission seemed in favor of such restrictions on use of private property. Only after public hearings in March of 2007 and outcries to "hang the bums" did the CCC rethink their stance and vote against zoning in Clayberry.
  • April 12 a If implemented, before you could add on to your house, build a porch, add an out building or about anything, the taxpayer would have to submit to a permitting process where the govt would tell you where and IF you could make improvements to your own property.
  • April 12 a One other thing, that permit would have a direct route to the Assessor's office where added taxation would be applied to your annual burden.
  • April 12 a Back in 2007, after around 300 showed up for two public hearings, most thought the CCC had learned their lesson, the people had spoke, and the issue was dead.
  • April 12 a Wrong O Clayberry.
  • April 12 a Two weeks ago, a quorum of the County Commission met with FEMA officials to accept new flood plain maps and hear the opening volley of new Flood Plain Ordinance rules they want voted into law for this county.
  • April 12 a It's coming clickers and it's all hush hush.
  • April 12 a Anytime there's a quorum of the CCC and they're discussing something that will be voted on, that a meeting and requires public notice via a posted agenda. They didn't.
  • April 12 a The secret meeting included invites to Town leaders who will be forced into voting to approve more restrictive private land use regs if the county does such.
  • April 12 a Yesterday, during the Commission meeting, one guy asked Linky about the hush hush meeting and to please bring the public up to date on what's going on in secret.
  • April 12 a  Up for reelection next month, Commission Prez Jerry Linky Poo was not willing to say one word about  the back door approach to zoning. His terse reply was " I don't have anything."
  • April 12 a Nip it Nip It at the Bud!!
  • April 12 a   It's very important to keep everything away from the public, the voters, until after the May 8th contest.   With campaign season in full bloom and the incumbent candidate poised for another 6 year term in office, it might be a good time to ask Linky about keeping such an issue under  wraps and how he plans to vote on limiting land owner rights.
  • April 12 a  More Coming as we get it.
  • April 11 a The 2012 Apple Festival gang has a new video ready for your viewing and listening pleasure.

  • April 10 p County Commission meets Wed morning. A look at the agenda doesn't reveal much in the way ot excitement. Still, you never know and it might be worth a trip into town for a watch see.
  • April 10 p As a matter of fact, it's pretty quiet in Clayberry right now. As ole timers say, it's quit before a storm. Maybe that's what's happening right now
  • April 10 p Friday is the first day of the annual get rid of the junk days sponsored by the Solid Waste Authority. Here's your chance to clean out that back closet, back room, barn, yard and for that matter that pile of junk down the road.
  • April 10 p Start stacking your junk now but remember, you can't take it over to Pierson's until Friday morning.
  • April 10 p FYI Clay Roane PSD is talking rate increase time. Their next meeting is Thursday evening, 6:30pm, at the Procious Wa Wa Plant.
  • April 10 Roadside vendor Karen Pringle, The Ramp Lady, returns to sell ramps Wed as you head into downtown Clay.
  • April 10 a Referencing yesterday morning's notice of the CCC misappropriating $20,000 earmarked for BDA use.....
  • April 10 a for govt., $20,000 isn't much money. Those guys have a lot more zeros than us on the outside. The problem is, trust and ethics.
  • April 10 a When you have a Commissioner say there wouldn't be a problem if the news doesn't pick up on the funds walking from one account to another, well ....  there's the real problem.
  • April 10 a One time Boardster Mike Boggs has a lawsuit against the BDA. In his Court case, Boggs contends that the BDA doesn't have good record keeping, they don't keep track of where the $$$ goes and receipts to prove it.
  • April 10 a  Here's one more example of what Boggs is talking about.
  • April 10 a Fran King wrote the grant for the $20,0000 five years ago. Her, the intent of the BDA, was very clear. The idea was and still is a good idea of providing a leadership person with professional office space to conduct business.
  • April 10 a Norman Johnson and family have operated Country Short Stop for years. Located in the middle of the thriving Harrison community, Johnson is the go to man for Stihl weed whackers, chain saws and repairs.
  • April 10 a  A few weeks back we heard thru the grapevine than due to family illness, the Short Stop would be closing.
  • April 10 a Here's the good and OFFICIAL news. They ain't. Mr Johnson let us know, there may be some slow down in getting repairs completed, but the business would remain up and running.
  • April 10 a There's a local business that the county really needs and we're glad to here they're staying.
  • April 10 a  The BDA leases the old State Road garage from the DOH. For about three years, in that building, there has been a fledgling auction business. It was a good idea and a great location for an "incubator" for growth.
  • April 10 a  Unfortunately the current operator walked out on the BDA leaving behind $1000 in past due bills as she left the county. That's the bad.
  • April 10 a Clayberry is still in need of an attraction like a professionally run, once a week, auction house. How about you? Why not give it a try? If you don't, then the BDA is going to come up with some dumb bunny notion for the building and waste all that space. Call BDA Chair Tommy Fitzwater and EcoDev head honcho Amanda Moore at the Courthouse
  • April 9 p Well Tenders, Grass Cutters, Tree Cutters Needed, Bodywork, and Deputy jobs, all over on the JOBS page now.
  • April 9 a The good, bad, and the ugly
  • April 9 a THE GOOD. Last week a group of volunteers showed their worth by continuing efforts to grow trout fishing in Clayberry. The Buffalo Creek Watershed group added 600 pounds of monster trout to the now cleaned up tributary of the Elk where 100s of folks have enjoyed the hard work with smiles and family time. Growing thru tourism, that's good.
  • April 9 a Volunteers raising Lizemore FD funds thru hot dog sales; The Communicator working to improve the county with a voters registration drive; volunteers cleaning up roadways by picking up trash; all for the good.
  • April 9 a THE BAD    Last Thursday during the BDA meeting, Boardster Mike Evans brought to the forefront a question on what happened to a $20,000 BDA grant that was suppose to be used to build a structure to house the county's Economic Development Director. During the discussion, it came to light that the $20,000 was formally redirected for the purchase of office equipment (computers, file cabinets, desks, chairs, phones, supplies, projectors, and such) via a change of scope process.
  • April 9 a In attendance, County Commissioner Mike Pierson, told the group, instead of the BDA properly using the $20,000, the County Commission took the $$$ and redirected it to their pie in the sky, pet project, the located next door Jerry Slinky Judicial Annex building and 911 Center.
  • April 9 a  With Pierson saying there was no chance the BDA would get the money back, eyebrows went up over the real possibility that the BDA (and the county) getting in deep stuff over misappropriation of funds. Pierson, said not to worry unless some media outlet made such unlawful actions public.
  • April 9 a THE UGLY   With the cost of goods increasing daily, every govt agency and non profit group in the county needs additional funding. The first line for such funding is the County Commission.  More often than not the Commission, Larry Darryl and Darryl,  have enough coal severance $$$ stashed away to keep worthwhile projects and needs, up and running.
  • April 9 a For instance the Library is in need of a fire alarm system and soon, roof replacement. When asked by the Library Manager, Linky said no, end of subject. For the Library to receive state funding matches for operations, local govt agencies including the County Commission are needed to cough up dollars. Last year and again this year, those hard to get state tax dollars are , will be, returned, due to the CCC not stepping up to the plate and providing those local funds.
  • April 9 a That's just one example. Commish Prez Slinky has told others (decisions made away from the public meeting setting), don't even ask, No.
  • April 9 a  Why? Much of the local dollars have been diverted or are being saved for the election year folly, the Clay 911 Dispatch Center. County programs suffering while the guy up for reelection waves a great big smile around the Courthouse for his project. Now that's REAL UGLY.
  • April 9 a On this date in history:
  • April 9 a Died 2004: Harry Babbitt (sang with the Kay Kyser big band on such hits as "The White Cliffs of Dover" and voiced the laugh of Woody Woodpecker)
  • April 9 a 1962: Golfer Arnold Palmer won his third Masters Tournament
  • April 9 a Born 1926: Hugh Hefner (editor & publisher); Born 1932: Carl Perkins (musician)
  • April 9 a  1865: Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union general Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, ending U.S. Civil War
  • April 8 2012  Delbert W. Murphy, 88, of Maysel, see OBITUARY page
  • April 6 a Greeting World and beyond. Weathercasters are calling for the next three days to be filled with bright sunshine and temps in the 60's. It's a great time to visit County Clay.
  • April 6 a For kids, this is the first day for Spring break. For teachers, it a screw off day at school and the last one before a week off. For govt workers, it's a day off work and time for some fun.
  • April 6 a Tonight County Line will be performing at Big Otter Community Center.
  • April 6 a Yard sales on every corner beginning today
  • April 6 a  Hot Dog and Voter Registration drive Saturday from 10 to 5
  • April 6 a 600 pounds of trout coming to Buffalo Creek plus a tagged fish tournement too
  • April 6 a How can it get any better this? Well....
  • April 6 a Ramps are up and ready for digging
  • April 6 a The bright sun will pull up even more Molly Moochers by Saturday afternoon
  • April 6 a It's important to have a home grown Legislative Delegation. Here's an example
  • April 6 a  Delegate Dave Walker read yesterday morning's post where we raised concerns over the Hartland Bridge replacement project's slow pace... zero pace
  • April 6 a He went to work on the phone
  • April 6 a By Thursday afternoon at 4pm, he had answers. According to Walker and after talking to a Big Suit at the Highways department:  the bridge is still top priority; there was a delay renewing Corp of Engineer permits; there's still a rough edge in acquiring nearby (needed for construction) heirship property; bids should go out in April; and construction is still slated for May.
  • April 6 a How's that for answers!
  • April 6 a Delegate Walker added, got any other questions, just call him at 304 548 6765
  • April 5 a Our Business Development Authority, the BDA meets this afternoon at 5:30 in the County Commission room at the Courthouse
  • April 5 a If you're wondering what teachers, janitors, and School Superintendents earn in this county, the entire list is in the current edition of The Communicator
  • April 5 a How about some updates from Tuesday evening's CAEZ meeting....
  • April 5 a  How about that long wanted and stalled sewer system over at the Campground, according to CAEZ Director Connie Lupardus, "Every time we turn around, there's something else." Translation: Still stalled.
  • April 5 a How about the Hartland Bridge?  That's the span that's nearly 100 years old and serves the only part of the county with manufacturing jobs. Just before Christmas, Clay leaders met down in Charleston with State Road Suits where they reported bids would be accepted in March 2012 with construction getting underway in July.
  • April 5 a During the CAEZ meeting, questions came on the much needed project being stalled again. No firm answers but sure that ain't been any bidding that we know of.
  • April 5 a Our guess, those Charleston Suits told us what we wanted to hear just to get us back in the outback and placid for a few more months.
  • April 5 a And wa wa. Red Derring runs a PSD over in Nicholas County. He's also a CAEZ Boardster of long tenure.  According to Red, his PSD continues to expand including $$$ for a Phase III project which  extends greater service capacity into Clayberry.
  • April 5 a That capacity could feed all of County Clay. That's an organized PSD providing a dependable service and will soon be available for our citizens. That's something to think about as the stalled for 17 months Town of Clay Wa Wa plant project lingers in Court.
  • April 5 a  Remember Red? He's the guy that came to a County Commission meeting 15 years ago offering to supply this county with the wet stuff. Back then our County Commission replied in a terse way, We ain't interested Buddy!
  • April 5 a Red's still supplying water while we drink frog pee.
  • April 4 p O Gene King is sporting great big blue spots and scratches all over his forehead. Before anybody gets the notion that Helen put the whammy on him, she didn't. Gene says he was chasing a cat in the basement and clunked his head on a 2 by 6.
  • April 4 p The floor joist survived the bashing.
  • April 4 p There's a big trout tournament this Saturday on Buffalo Creek. The first ever fun time is a fundraiser for the Buffalo Creek Watershed Assoc. EVENTS page for details.
  • April 4 p Before you head to some side road or creek bank, save that junk until next weekend when the Solid Waster Authority is hosting their annual Recycling Days over at Pierson Lumber. They're taking about anything and everything including household trash.. that's anything and everything but propane tanks.
  • April 4 a  It took us a while but The Communicator made it to news stands across the region Tuesday afternoon. Lead story is an in-depth look at the latest class of indictees by the Spring Grand Jury plus all the mind numbing antics we call life in the Great Nation of Clay
  • April 4 a More this afternoon
  • April 2 p People complain about how things are in Clayberry. We finger the blame mostly on our elected and appointed officials. One way to make change is to attend public meetings. Nothing scares leaders more than to have voters watching them.
  • April 2 p  There's plenty of public offerings this week.
  • April 2 p Tonight the School Board meets at the Pentagon beginning at 6pm. Their meeting agenda is posted online.
  • April 2 p Big mix of offerings the first Tuesday of each month when the CAEZ meets twice, 4 and again at 6pm. In between is Town Council which gets underway at 5pm.
  • April 2 p  In addition to official insight, never know what may happen in always beautiful Clayberry.
  • April 2 p Communicator arrives Tuesday afternoon. Lead story covers the details from the Spring Grand Jury. And Yes, there will be plenty on our Top Badge.
  • April 2 p Few if any updates until we get the county's only locally owned and operated newspaper out the door .
  • April 2 a  Dennie “Boots” VanMeter, 84, of Bentree, see OBITUARY page
  • April 2 a Want to be Badge? See JOBS page today.
  • April a With an agenda properly posted, it was unbelievable. Last night elected and appointed officials from across the county met at the Courthouse to plan out the future of Clayberry. During the gathering....
  • April 1 a The County Commission apologized for spending all their time improving Courthouse facilities and pledged to redirect their efforts to improving County Clay including South of the Hartland bridge.
  • April 1 a The Pentagon folks asked for forgiveness for recently passing a new Excess Levy on the backs of the poorest in the county. To make up for their efforts, RB and Kenneth both promised to stop wasting money and apply some of the $$$ to actually improving education!
  • April a CHS's Director Ron Sirk felt moved and resigned from the AD perch making way for new leadership.
  • April 1 a  Town Council walked in lockstep as they pledged to actually improve the municipality with new sidewalks, flower pots, benches, potted trees, and attractive signs.
  • April 1 a Parks and Rec's Don Jarvis jumped on the band wagon and said from now on, the ball field up at Maysel Park will be unlocked so Dad's can take kids up there to practice hitting and catching.
  • April 1 a Seeing the winds shifting, Boardsters from the CAEZ gulped and added, they will immediately set up committees that actually meet and accomplish goals for Clayberry.
  • April 1 And the long misguided BDA group stood and recommitted to growing at least one job in the county of little.
  • April
  • April
  • April a  April Fool's Day
  • March 31 a Our current County Commission has a way of making decisions away from the public setting. They like it that way.
  • March 31 a Like, they just passed the 2012 - 2013 operating budget which goes into affect July 1st.
  • March 31 a In that $2.259m spread sheet is notice that the Sheriff's budget was cut from $316,485 down to $269,013.00 or about the cost of a Deputy for one year.
  • March 31 a One time Prosecutor and local attorney, Jeff Davis,  just lost his law license.... again.
  • March 31 a   Much more in Tuesday's Communicator.
  • March 31 a For those practicing the notion of boycotting the only locally owned and operated newspaper, remember, you can pick up a copy in the middle of night at many of the convenience stores... when nobody is looking.
  • March 30 p Kind of chilly this Spring day with rain and thunder boomers expected.
  • March 30 p Even with the last frost date of May 13th, over achievers are already buying tomato plants and such.
  • March 30 p  Tonight Art and Dave Douglas are scheduled to perform at the Big Otter Community Center. Great tunes and a good dance floor.
  • March 30 p Right now, how many of ya are laid back in your chair, your legs propped up on the desk while viewing this site. Well....
  • March 30 p That's the position the ace cub reporter assumes when updating this site. Yesterday morning while typing away, he witnesses a cockroach scurry around the desk and around his pant bottom. Yikes as he pulled away quickly.
  • March 30 p With the update complete and the cockroach no where to be seen, off to the can he went for the long overdue morning constitution.
  • March 30 p  While on the throne, a tingling was felt in the down under. A moment later, a fluttering sensation below Mr One Eye.
  • March 30 p With the purpose of the visit not complete,  the Mel Gibson look alike started thinking, what if that "touching of the goods"  was that cockroach looking for his next meal.
  • March 30 p  With astonishing speed and agility, the reporter bolted across the room swiping and rubbing with each step.
  • March 30 p Looking as he went, a small moth went flying up from the throne.
  • March 30 p  Mopping and disinfecting continues today.
  • March 29 p 154 years ago today County Clay was born.
  • March 29 p Happy Birthday Clayberry.
  • March 29 p That's something not mentioned during yesterday's County Commission meeting. Actually not much was mentioned by Larry Darryl and Darryl.
  • March 29  In the way of our first update from the Huggable Holcomb Support group.  Over on the State Journal Republicrat news site, there is mention that Brent Boggs was re indicted last week by the Sprin Grand Jury. In the article as references and quotes from our Top Badge putting the monkey on the Prosecutor's office for doing a rotten job of prosecuting bad guys.
  • March 29 p The article puts the Sheriff in a better light .... for once.
  • March 29 p That's the update from the support group
  • March 29 p Not saying the Prosecutor isn't a load of malarkey, on the other hand... It's was the under trained, acting outside of the law, Black Shirt Deputies that thru away the Constitution and forced the Courts' hand with the bad guys walking free.
  • March 29 p  Stuff like Miranda Rights and unlawful search / seizure come to mind at the top of the heap.
  • March 29 a  Junior Holcomb, 86, of Clay, see OBITUARY page
  • March 29 a   Sharon “Elaine” Mullins, 57, of Ivydale, see OBITUARY page
  • March 28 a James Fitzwater, 94, of Harrison, see OBITUARY page
  • March 28 a With grass cutting time here, our listings for cutting, weed whacking and other outdoor services will be posted over on the JOBS link.
  • March 28 a Adding fluoride to water supplies has been controversial since the practice began 50 years ago. Concerns were and still are raised over adding the potentially cancer causing chemical waste to what we drink.
  • March 28  a  A few years back the same hot topic was brought to Clayberry when some locals wanted the stuff added to the Town's Wa Wa plant.  Over the objections of water operators, the vote was made to add fluoride.
  • March 28 a  Shortly thereafter the stuff ate thru piping and as for now, until the new plant is finished and on line, fluoride is no longer being added to the municipal water supply.
  • March 28 a Good!
  • March 28 a During last night's Lady Panther softball loss to Herbert Hoover, had a chance to talk to CHS Athletic Director  Ron Sirk. yes, even after being asked to resign last winter, he's still there.
  • March 28 a Ole Droppy Drawers says there's a boycott of The Communicator in place.
  • March 28 a If true, that's Great! We most be getting close to something the Blue Bloods don't want uncovered. Not sure what we're close to but we'll keep digging clickers.
  • March 28 a  Several years back Fairview Baptist Church started the Prayer Warriors boycott of The Communicator. Back then, sales went thru the roof.
  • March 28 a  Remember the Pete Seeger song Don't Put Beans in Your Ears? Banning something usually results in increased awareness. Hope that happens again this time around.
  • March 28 a Dale Carnegie - Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do
  • March 28 a Joseph Addison - It is ridiculous to criticize the works of another who has not distinguished himself by his own performance
  • March 28 a Elbert Hubbard -  To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, be nothing
  • March 27 a CHS Softball and Baseball this afternoon. Great time to take in a ballgame.
  • March 27 a County Commission meets Wed morning.
  • March 27 a On this day in history: 1860: A corkscrew was patented by M.L. Byrn of New York City; Born 1863: Henry Royce (automobile manufacturer); 1866: Andrew Rankin received a patent for the urinal
  • March 27 a The major items often get media attention even on a regional basis. It's the little things that are busting this county.
  • March 27 a Like....
  • March 27 a During one of his many temper tantrums, our wittle Sheriff thumped his chest, stomped his feet and stopped the county home confinement program for non violent offenders.
  • March 27 a That's a program where the criminals pay a fee to stay out of jail instead of the taxpayer coughing up $48.50 per day to house and feed the law breakers.
  • March 27 a Before his tantrum, we had a bunch wearing leg bracelets and saving us tons of money. Today we have a couple remaining in the program.
  • March 27 a Today our jail bill has skyrocketed. We're paying out $35,000 or so each month or about double what it should be.
  • March 27 a Instead of spending local $$$$ on local projects, taxpayers are giving it back to the state.
  • March 27 a As you go to the Courthouse to pay your property taxes this week, all together now, Thank You Top Badge.
  • March 27 a Did you know:  Sleet falls in the winter when the air temperature is below freezing near the ground and above freezing up in the clouds. Rain forms in the warm air and falls into the cold air, freezing into little pieces of ice on the way down.
  • March 26 p Happy Navel Day to Jerry Hubbard and Bill Dunn
  • March 26 p Happy March 31st Birthday wish to Tyler Sears
  • March 26 p  CHS Lady Panther Jacee Markle  was named to the State AA All State First Team. Full details from the Register Herald right here.
  • March 26 p Way to Go!!
  • March 26 p the third month of the new year is winding down. This week the County Commission meets Wed morning.
  • March 26 p The new class of Grand Jury indictees get a chance to say Not Guilty.
  • March 26 p Thursday evening the radio station will be doing live interviews with candidates W M Stover who's running for House of Delegates , 6pm;  followed by Joe Messino candidate for the Commissioner of Agriculture statewide job.
  • March 26 p and, all in between, the cabbage, onions, lettuce, and weeds are growing.
  • March 26 p after conducting an online request for a support group name for our Sheriff, we decided on the Huggable Holcomb Support group. Yes we liked the Sheriff Holcomb in Trouble name (S.H.I.T.) but opted for something  a little less stinky.
  • March 26 p Details coming on HHS projects.
  • March 26 p New stuff added to the ADVISORY page.
  • March 26 p Got some emails from folks wanting the now being created 911 Dispatch Center Director job. With the County Commission doing the hiring , might want to check with the County Clerk's office for details.
  • March 25 a Hello Mary Davis your son says Howdy.
  • March 25 a We've had a couple say, you should lay off the Sheriff. That you're too mean to him and his high and lofty office.
  • March 25 a We've thunk about it and thunk about it and decided...  NOT!
  • March 25 a The lead Communicator story covers the just filed lawsuit the Sheriff and the Town of Clay which was filed Friday March 16th. It was two years ago that date that Adam Nottingham was chased down.
  • March 25 a  Two days ago on Friday the 23rd, TV-8 aired a brief on our outlandish Top Badge.
  • March 25 a One county North, the HurHerald web portal rehashed the TV-8 offering plus added a listing of all the other Poopster episodes. Wonderful reading.
  • March 25 a  Sure we could have cutesy little heart warming stories of a happy puppy or the kitty cat that was saved from peril but for Clayberry to grow, it's the elected leadership that has to grow up and set the foundation .
  • March 25 a As for JPD, are you still over here reading this poorly worded and typo prone ramblings?
  • March 23 a For many college kids, mid terms are done and it's Spring break party time.
  • March 23 a With rain expected for the next three days, hope you've got your lettuce, onions and cabbage in the ground.
  • March 23 a The newly formed 911 Advisory group held their second meeting  this week. The group is supposed to provide oversight for the design, construction, and operation of the 911 Center beside the Courthouse. Commissioner Slinky's goal is to have some kind of grand opening hoopla  during the run up to the May Primary Election.
  • March 23 a The purpose of Tuesday's meeting was to get the hiring process for a 911 Director started.  Neither this group nor the front man for the money pit, Link, have  an idea on what's needed in the way of job description, education requirements,  time frame, or pay scale.
  • March 23 a Yet, the ad  for hire was placed Wed.
  • March 23 a Yelp, another Clayberry news cycle is underway.
  • March 22 late p This morning we put out the request for emails to name a proposed support group to assist the Sheriff during these trying times. We came up with the Huggable Holcomb support group. The first to arrive  is The Little Crooky Support Foundation.
  • March 22 late p  We have received one that has a ring. How about S.H.I.T. Support group. Sheriff Holcomb In Trouble group.
  • March 22 late p Keep em coming clickers. We'll select one and get this support group up and running in support of the wittle guy that continues to get wore down.
  • March 22 late p Possible areas of support are mailing birthday cards and Christmas best wishes.
  • March 22 p Judy Carolyn Parcell, 63, of Bickmore, see OBITUARY page
  • March 22 a   a couple notes this morning
  • March 22 a Kenneth Crites was found guilty of being a druggie last summer. Kenneth and Jamie Morris were both busted after a controversial drug bust at Maysel. Wifey Candance ended up in the slammer on drug charges as a ploy to get Hubby to talk.
  • March 22 a That was last year. While waiting jail time, Kenneth was heard saying he had learned his lesson and added the sleeping with dogs with fleas adage. Wifey said she had been victim of the Court system and would never do anything again to jeopardize her children again.
  • March 22 a With many thinking their lives were turning around, both received sympathy from the community. Not no more
  • March 22 a Tuesday was Grand Jury day. Candance was called to serve. She made the mistake of getting stoned before showing up. Before going into the Courthouse and while a seated juror she was boisterous and combative. So bad was it that other jurors were ready to walk out to get away from her.
  • March 22 a Finally, she was pulled from the proceedings on a disturbing a government proceeding charge and arrested. Yelp pee testing went hot and she's in the slammer on a $50,000 cash bond.
  • March 22 a Hubby Kenneth was also jailed after showing up to see what was going on and he too was loaded.
  • March 22 a Dumb Dumb Dumb
  • March 22 a Number two this morning. We have great concerns for our Sheriff. Based on the coffeehouse crowd and others, our duly elected Top Badge, we think no one in the county likes the guy. Concern has been raised that the tension assorted with such hostility is affecting his health.
  • March 22 a For instance, just a couple weeks back while the ace cub reporter was walking thru the courthouse, Mr Top Badge passed by. When the Mel Gibson look alike said, Hey Randy. No response came. When a second attempt with Howdy Sheriff was uttered, again, no response as the guy headed into his office.
  • March 22 a  We think the hostility and tension has affected the Sheriff's hearing. That's the only thing we can think of anyway.
  • March 22 a Clickers, we've got to do something. Maybe a support group is needed. Not sure of a name yet but maybe Huggable Holcomb Support Group or Holcomb Help Network would work.
  • March 22 a We've got to support the rotund one. Heck we elected him twice and now he needs our help to make it this last 9 months in office.
  • March 22 a If you have a good name for the support group, email your idea today.
  • March 20a Bright sunshine coming down and Spring is officially here.
  • March 20 a So is the Communicator. 24 pages of questionable information all about about beautiful County Clay. Lead story covers all the juicy details on the just filed wrongful death lawsuit against our always lovable huggable Top Badge along with the fallout and revenge from the guy.
  • March 20 a The Spring Grand Jury completed their work Tuesday afternoon.
  • March 20 a New inductees into the world of felonies include...
  • March 20 a Billy Best, poss of drugs
  • Thomas Keaton, person prohibited from having a weapon
  • Tina Boor, person prohibited from having a weapon
  • Brent Boggs, once again for trying to hire a barber to commit murder
  • William Belnap. operating a meth lab and intent
  • Roger Bosely, Malicious wounding and brandishing
  • Michael Haines, transferring & receiving stolen goods
  • Jesse R Gill, fleeing in a vehicle
  • Timothy Graham, Grand Larceny
  • Terry Lynn Williams, manufacturing pot
  • Jeremiah Eagle, forgery and uttering
  • March 20 a Most of the names are familiar to Communicator readers and should offer some good court room drama if they make there. The norm is for most taking a guilty plea before a jury is seated. Someone  told us that 80% of all cases cop a plea before trial time. Cheaper that way but with our faulty Badge efforts, one has to wonder why anyone would opt out of the trial process.
  • March 19 late p If you read the morning post about no updates until we get the Communicator out the door Tuesday afternoon..... got one that couldn't wait
  • March 19 late p  Two years ago March 16th  2010, Adam Nottingham drowned after a high speed chase brought on by our local Sheriff. Scanners listeners will remember the Top Badge's strong language that night including, Don't let that Son of a B!!!! get away!!"
  • March 19  late p Last Friday, two years to the day, there was a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the Sheriff in his official capacity, the Sheriff personally, and the then Town Badge Jack Brown.
  • March 19 late p  Not sure how the suit will go  or how much damage the family is seeking but one thing is for sure, lawyers and court time will be costly for this county. When you see the portly Sheriff, be sure to tell him, Thanks.
  • March 19 late p Full details in Clayberry's only locally owned and operated newspaper, The Communicator.
  • March 19 p  Tonight the School Board over at Clay Middle School with a 6pm start time. Here's the online agenda.
  • March 19 a Over on Classifieds Mary Dawson has a listing for a bunch of hand tools and a nearly built Blazer. In note... Dawson's husband passed away before completing the 2 wd S-10 Blazer hot rod. The engine looks completely rebuilt complete with a shiny new Edlebrook carburetor. If you're thinking of building a hot rod, it's well worth looking at. For garage junkies that have to have every tool hanging on a nail. While down at Ms Dawson's, there's tons of items to look thru.
  • March 19 p  For those afar, Clayberry averted major storm damage last night after a sun filled weekend. Gardens were turned over and some over acheivers even cut their grass! As for the ace cub reporter, tall wild onions look beautiful and should be allowed to thrive.
  • March 19 p Bet the ramps are up 4 inches with such warm weather!
  • March 19 p Communicator comes out Tuesday around 4pm, No updates till we get the thing to bed.
  • March 17 a  A couple days ago we mentioned the lack of some dumb bunny antic by our Top Badge and how the news cycle had gone cold.      Not no more clickers!!! Here goes
  • March 17 a  A month ago, in Circuit court, 26 year old Jeremiah Eagle was in the hot seat charged with illegal drugs during a traffic stop. Arresting officer Black Shirt Belt testified that Miranda rights nor request to search the vehicle had been done. Such things are common practice for a well trained Badge force.
  • March 17 a A jury of his peers found Eagle not guilty. He walked away a free man leaving  egg was on Belt's face big time.
  • March 17 a Shortly thereafter the Sheriff went into a cussing rage blaming the Prosecutor's office for the court loss.  We reported the problem was a top down administration problem where our Sheriff had fallen well short of the line on training and continuing education needs. Get out your old Communicator for complete details on the dismal performance by our Sheriff.
  • March 17 a Payback time clickers.
  • March 17 a Three days ago Mr Eagle was arrested again on a felony charge and spent the night in the slammer. His transgression?
  • March 17 a Eagle was picked up three days ago for providing  a false name on Courthouse documents from something he allegedly did TWO YEARS AGO on Dec 17 2010!!!!
  • March 17 a  The arresting officer? You guessed it, none other than Black Shirt Robert Belt.
  • March 17 a Two years ago and a felony for telling a Badge your name was John Hancock or George Washington?
  • March 17 a There's little doubt that the home cooked arrest was dreamed up by our out of control Sheriff but this time around, put  blame on Belt for executing the top down vengeance.
  • March 17 a  True Belt has car payments, family needs, and more, like the rest of us, but to stoop to such demeaning to the uniform crap.... that was Belt's decision.
  • March 17 a  When Black Shirt Chief Deputy Miles Slack was caught up in the old boy club Courthouse politics of evil, he did the right thing and resigned. It's time for Belt to show his worth and walk away from the Top Badge corruption.
  • March 17 a It's a sad day in Clayberry and we have to put up with this administration and a 12 year veteran Badge willing to trade the respect of his uniform for a pay check. Come on Jan 1st 2013 and a new start for professional law enforcement in the county of little.
  • MArch 17 a Pitiful comes to mind.
  • March 16 a This Friday morning greets us with a cold rain slated to continue all day. Parts of the state are under a flood watch. To put a little pep in your step, a trip to Big Otter Community Center music tonight might help or just a little further North, Joe Nutter and Variety Pack over at Skidmore's truck stop might just be the ticket.
  • March 16 a The Business Development Authority has never been known for being organized and effective in the creation of much of anything. Years ago it was even worse.
  • March 16 a A dozen years ago the volunteer group haphazardly purchased a couple pieces of property for an industrial site. Not buying what they thought they were buying, they did a hush hush  land swap followed by giving the place away to a swindler named Manfred Kuentzler. Costly Court battles returned the land back to the BDA but with a  cloudy deed.
  • March 16 a An attempt to sell the place a year or so ago fell apart because of the the earlier BDA's  lack of due diligence. Never was done: non conflict lawyer title search and a proper survey of the 12 acres.
  • March 16 a Under the prior leadership, much of dealings were done in hush hush conversations away from the public setting. Those folks felt that sunshine on the land deal . At one point the group decided to never again mention the word "Filcon" in public. During another meeting, the BDA voted to form a top secret executive committee that would handle matters at the drop of a hat and away from the rest of the appointed body.
  • March 16 a The current BDA is feeling the pinch of those earlier shortcomings.
  • March 16 a Last night the BDA convened a special meeting (in public) to sell the old boat anchor, the Filcon Industrial site. With a firm offer in place from Clay County native Dow Jones, turns out there are still concerns on what the BDA really owns, whether the group can actually sell the place for non industrial purposes, and they have yet to have an attorney advise them on those matters and more.
  • March 16 a It took a lengthy discussion for them to decide they needed to consult with an attorney. Lawyer advice is common practice in the real world! Last night it took a strong effort to get to where the rest of the world has always been.
  • March 16 a Also made public last night was: there are NO records on file at the Courthouse on where the money came from for the original purchase, the land swap, meeting minutes, nor intended use of the original grant funds. No paper trail clickers.
  • March 16 a It took em a while to hammer out the need for expert advice but they finally did it. Making their effort in public is a good start as is seeking professional advice.  The struggle to shed the boat anchor, operate lawfully & do so in public, and a fresh start, the effort continues. Details in next week's Communicator.
  • March 15 p Opppps.. That special BDA meeting starts at 6pm not 5:30 as we earleir posted
  • March 15 a  Our newest got agency, the 911 Emergency Advisory Board was suppose to meet this evening, they ain't. Instead bring your popcorn next Tuesday evening for the gathering
  • March 15 a The BDA is meeting tonight in the CCC room beginning at 5:30
  • March 15 a On non profit 101.7 FM, tonight, Fred Sampson is interviewing Sheriff candidate Sam Morris beginning at 6pm.
  • March 15 a Speaking of the BDA, Mike Boggs sued the agency 13 months ago. Efforts to get the BDA to release public records haven't gone very far. We have the update on the stalled suit .
  • March 15 a Bottom of the heap:  Turns out Clayberry does NOT have the poorest housing in the state. That honor goes to McDowell. Here's the write up posted on the Hurherald portal. Clay is ranked 52nd lowest housing values.
  • March 15  a Been nearly a week since we had the portly Sheriff in the forefront. The news cycle just isn't the same without the guy embarrassing the county.
  • March 15 a  County Commission met Wed morning. There the elected folks accepted long time Deputy Miles Slack's resignation from duty. The Sheriff is now able to appoint the next Chief Deputy.
  • March 14 a Dillon Ray Dawson, 15, of Nebo, Clay County, see OBITUARY page
  • March 14 a County Commission meets this morning at 10 am
  • March 14 a There's a Special meeting of the BDA called for Thursday at 5:30pm in the Commission room. Last month the economic development group made a counter offer to Dow Jones who is interested in purchasing the Filcon Manufacturing site near Wallback.
  • March 14 a During the BDA's last meeting, a counter offer was proposed. The Special meeting was called to discuss the options.
  • March 14 a Since the beginning of The Communicator, it's been a fight to force public leaders to make public decisions at properly noticed public meetings.
  • March 14 a A costly lawsuit several years ago plus ridicule from this site and The Communicator have brought some of the groups into Open Meeting Law compliance. The School Board remains one of the long holdouts on full compliance.
  • March 14 a On March 3rd, without telling the public, according to Superintendent Kenneth Tanner, the School Board began a new policy of making any and all student discipline discussions and decisions in secret, behind closed doors.
  • March 14 a If your next door neighbor's kid or a kid your children run around with are selling drugs on school property, beating up kids, bringing weapons to school, anything like that, parents will have no way of knowing to keep your kids away from the problem.
  • March 14 a Tanner says he has new information from the State Board of Education and an Ethics Commission decision that backs up the new change.
  • March 14 a Details coming ASAP.
  • March 13  7:56 am  Unit 10 told 911 Dispatchers he was on the job. In reply, "And Welcome Back"
  • March 13 a Unit 10 is the # for the Town of Clay Badge now, Miles Slack. Good!
  • March 13 a TV-8 provided the following: Troopers say Dillon Dawson was shot to death Saturday in Clay County by his 79-year-old great uncle, Alfred Dawson. He allegedly shot the teen from a tree stand 125 yards away.    Investigators say it appears either the boy or his dog was mistaken for a coyote. They would not confirm earlier reports that Dillon, a freshman at Clay High School, was playing a prank on his elderly relative by pretending to be a coyote.  School officials announced the boy's death to the 600 students at Clay High School today. Counselors were at the school where an upbeat mood from the school's good showing in the State Basketball Tournament turned to sadness. A candlelight vigil is planned for six Tuesday night at the school.
  • March 13 a It's a sad time in Clayberry.
  • March 13 a At 6am the temp was already 60 degrees. Not even thinking about ^^!!### grass cutting, weed whacking, filling in mud holes and the like... with gas prices ready to break over the $4 threshold, planting a garden, even a very small one, might be something to think about in 2012.
  • March 13 a Even if it's a  3 foot wide by 8 foot long affair, the effort could help out with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, peppers and more. No excuses clickers. You don't even need a tiller for a small beside the house garden patch. Get out the shovel, turn the clay over, and plant some onions and lettuce right now.
  • March 13 a During all hype of the Lady Panthers in State Tournament action, a couple public meetings revealed a couple morsels
  • March 13 a New investors from Duke University bought thousands of acres in County Clay a few years ago. Those folks made some immediate changes that affected the county. Stuff like who could and could not continue leasing the surface holdings.
  • March 13 a During last week's CAEZ meeting, word came that land under the JG Bradley Campground at Dundon will be sold. According to the CAEZ Director, getting the land donated to the county... that's a big Nope. Those folks are here to make money.
  • March 13 a The CAEZ was instrumental in getting the Valley Fork Community College into the county. Word has it due to low student rates and financial short comings, the school may have to close the  Clay County campus in the old Valley Fork Elem school building.
  • March 13 a  CAEZ is encouraging Glenville College, a true four year college, to locate in the freshly remodeling building.
  • March 13 a Town Council met last week too. It's was as if there were several things they skirted around and at least gently addressed. has your water bill increased? Could be the meter reading process and not an increase in your consumption. One person around the conference table said the recent bills were "shocking"
  • March 13 a  There was also a feel that there was tension among the employees. Like no one was willing to help another out. Like, it ain't my job to do that. Like, it ain't in my job description. Like, even with a new pay increases, nope, not me buddy.
  • March 13 a What employees don't understand is, in this state, even in the Great Nation of Clay, everybody is employed at the will and pleasure of the boss and can be dismissed at any time without providing any reason.
  • March 13 a Thinking the Town can't get along without em, that's bologna. Been tried before and never works. There was someone before each employee and there will be someone after each
  • March 13 a  How do I get rid of fire ants for good?     You don't. There are several species of fire ants--some native, some imported--but by far the most active and most aggressive are the imported red fire ants. Nothing has yet been devised to eradicate them. The only recourse is to knock the population down to a manageable level with baits and mound drenches.
  • March 13 a  Where in the continental United States is the average annual temperature the highest?      Phoenix, Arizona, has had the highest number of days in a year with temperatures above 90 degrees. For the past 38 years, Phoenix has had 167 days each year with temperatures at least 90 degrees F. Just for the record, the highest temperature ever recorded in the continental United States was 134 degrees F, documented at Greenland Ranch, Death Valley, California, on July 10, 1913.
  • March 12 p Howdy Mike Ramsey
  • March 12 p after a weekend of running around, how about an update
  • March 12 p Last week was an up and down time in Clayberry. It started off  with well liked CHS shop teacher John Brown hospitalized. as the week rolled on, the Lady Panthers excited the entire county with two appearances in the State basketball tournament down in Charleston. Their Wed night win was stunning. On that night they could have beat the Globe trotters!
  • March 12 p Not so friday afternoon when half the county was in attendance. The first half of the match up was nip and tuck. Not so the second half where West Side stomped us by 20 points. We just couldn't get a shot to drop.
  •  March 12 p  West Side went on to become the State Tournament Champs. If we're going to get beat,  it's better when that team goes on to take the entire enchilada.
  • March 12 p Everything went bad Saturday mid day when a high school student was killed in a hunting accident. Real bad!
  • March 12 p  Today, one time Deputy Miles Slack changed the color of his uniform and went on the job as a Town of Clay Badge.
  • March 12 p During Wed morning's Commission meeting, the agenda calls for the acceptance of the Slack resignation. Such a vote would then free up the Sheriff to hire a replacement.
  • March 12 p Larry Darryl and Darryl don't have to accept the resignation. Nor do they have to accept whomever the Top Badge selects as Chief Deputy.
  • March 12 p It would take some backbone, but they don't have to vote in favor of  the Round One's logic. The Wed morning meeting convenes at 10am in the Courthouse.
  • March 8 p  For a day or so County Clay has come together and united behind the CHS Lady Panther basketball team. No one is talking about the Sheriff nor other dumb bunny stuff.
  • March 8 p After defeating Lincoln High School Wed night, Friday at 1pm the girl's team will be competing in the second round of State Tournament play.
  • March 8 p   Half the county will be Charleston Friday to support the home team. Schools countywide shut down at 10am Friday 500+ kids can ride pep buses to and from the game and watch it  for free.
  • March 8 p There's a reason the schools had to close. There aren't enough buses to take kids to town and have school!
  • March 8 p The once in a long time pride rhas returned to County Clay.
  • March 8 p W e have the answer to the online question about when was the last time CHS made it to a State Tournament.
  • March 8 p Answer:  the last time Clay won a bball game at the state tournament level was the last time the girls played in the state tournament.  The year was 2006-2007.  The girls beat Petersburg in the first round and lost to eventual state champion Summers Co in the 2nd round.  That year's team featured players such as Meghan Cole, Cherie Cruickshanks, Lyndsie Thomas, Erica Schoolcraft, etc
  • March 8 a Harry Lewis Larch, 85, of Wallback, see OBITUARY page
  • March 8 a Benny Fitzwater lost his wallet somewhere around the Maysel post office. $25 reward for finding it. Call Benny at 304 587 4074
  • March 8 a Clay Roane PSD Procious and Camp Creek customers, the Boil Water Order has been lifted. Drink Drink Drink.
  • March 8 a In Clayberry , much of Wednesday was spent without tele or internet service. Late evening service returned but was spotty at best. This morning, in the Maysel area, both seemed restored with the DSL speeds maybe a little better than Ho Hum
  • March 8 a  Good news: During Town Council's monthly meeting, tossed from duty Black Shirt Miles Slack was hired by the town! He starts flat footin it  on the 12th.
  • March 8 a Read the lead story in the Communicator for details on Slack.
  • March 8 a The biggy for the day... maybe decade, the Lady Panthers worked their butts off and made it into the State B Ball Tournament down in Charleston. To get to that level is hard to do. To win a State Tourney game, that's next to impossible.
  • March 8 a Last night, the Lady Panthers put it all over Lincoln High 65 to 54. It was  a hard fought victory from the git go. The team shined!
  • March 8 a So did County Clay.  As the team bus rolled thru downtown Clay, the place was lined with balloons. In front of the Courthouse, cheering fans held up signs and applauded as the Big Yellow passed by.
  • March 8 a Many locals made the trip to Charleston and cheered on the home team. The Panther Pit did an outstanding job of letting the team know fans were there supporting them.
  • March 8 a Our next game is Friday at 1pm at the Civic Center. Go Lady Panthers!!!
  • March 8 a To sum it all up, an email from Bud White:   I want to say that I think the group of young girls who are known as the Lady Panthers are one elite group of girls.  They have given the school new pride and have shown to be above and beyond the image that some schools have. Even though I live in Fayette County I am so proud of these girls.
  • March 8 a Historians please email answer: When was the last time a Clay County Basketball team won a game on the state level? Thanks
  • March 7 a if you're interested in what's really going on in County Clay, there's one source and that's the Communicator. The latest edition is now on newsstands everywhere and awaiting your edification. Lead story provides all the details on Miles Slack getting booted by the Sheriff. also is the finding on a national poll that West Virginia is the most miserable place to live in the entire nation. While we knew that a long time ago, now it's documented.
  • March 7 a  A couple things for today
  • March 7 a The Buffalo Creek Watershed group has worked hard for three years to restore the watershed to a condition that will support trout year round. Today Buffalo Creek tributaries will be "limed"  in the Widen area.
  • March 7 a The addition of lime in the creek bed will sweeten what's left of old and the new run off from mining. Doesn't sound too exciting unless your a trout but it's an important step to getting a once beautiful small stream back to what it was before greedy Big Coal destroyed the place
  • March 7 a It's not often that a small school makes it to state tournament play in Charleston. It's happening this evening for the Clay High Lady Panthers.  The Civic Center game will get underway around 9pm tonight.
  • March 7 a The team leaves the school at 2:30. Many are planning to line Main Street to wave as the player's bus rolls thru. How about you.
  • March 7 a It's small town America at its best. How about you coming out and doing your part at 2:30
  • March 7 a CHS Coaches for boys sports were paid higher than coaches doing the same thing for female teams. Our CHS Head football coach was paid more than coaches in much larger counties like Kanawha. that changed last year when the School Board equalized salaries over the objections of the Clay High AD and boy's team coaches.
  • March 7 a Lady Panther B Ball coach Mary Ramsey is the winningest coach in Clayberry having taking teams to the states on many occasions. This year her $$$ are about the same as the Coach for the boy's team.
  • March 7 a It's about time!
  • March 5 late p We're busy typing on the next edition of Clay County's only locally owned and operated newspaper, The Communicator. Included items: Miles getting forced out of his Deputy's job; the 911 Advisory Board meeting, follow ups on the always delightful Top Badge, tonight's School Board meeting, Shida Jamie getting indicted with a finger pointing at Linda Gray, the Sheriff's bad audit report, and a whole bunch more. Should be ready to go out the door around 3:30 Tuesday
  • March 5 late p No updates until we're finished crafting our latest edition
  • March 5 p  Virgil Falls, 92, of Ivydale, see OBITUARIES page
  • March 5   10:45 am Clay Roane PSD issued a BOIL WATER ORDER for the Procious and Camp Creek service areas. Muddy wa wa is the culprit. Boil it first!
  • MArch 5  7:30am  CLAY COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED TODAY
  • MArch 5  Thank you Sarah
  • March 4pm Tornados damaged much of the mid West two days ago. The high winds wiped out many small towns.
  • March 4 p  Portions of Southern West Virginia were hit with high winds Friday night. That storm went around Clayberry. Truth is, in the Southern part of the state, the high winds probably improved the place.
  • March 4 p About a 1/2 inch of snow covered Clayberry by dark today.
  • March 4 p Delegate Walker's Legislative Update column is posted over on the ADVISORY page
  • March 4 p If you're interested in attending Kanawha Valley Community College, new help is now available. Walk over to their link on the home page for more
  • March 4 p The High School is selling Lady Panther State Tournament Tee Shirts as a fundraiser. They want to buy each player a gift for their outstanding performance. Nice T Shirt too. Details on ADVISORY page
  • March 4 p By the way, watch the Lady Panthers in Tournament action Wed night , 9pm, down at the Charleston Civic Center. Go Lady Panthers
  • March 4 p Our old Courthouse is about the only historic structure still in decent shape. Two weeks ago Charleston newspapers announced the still in use facility was listed on the Preservation Alliance endangered list.
  • March 4 p A couple years ago, with big hoopla, Linky announced a big grant award used to restore and repair the little white top thang full of windows called a cupola.
  • March 4 p What hasn't been talked about is.... after all those repairs, the new part is leaking big time causing much damage to the ceiling in the main courtroom.
  • March 4 p Guess who the Cluck of the Works was? You got it!
  • March 4 p With a new month here, there's a bunch of public meetings this week. School Board Monday 6 pm; Town of Clay 5 pm Tuesday; CAEZ 4 and 6pm.
  • MArch 2 a  It's been a long time since we've posted happy news, something more than the dumb bunny antics of clueless Clayberry leadership. This morning it's good news
  • March 2 a With the Clay High gym packed tight as sardines, the CHS Lady Panthers fought very hard and came out on top during the Regional match up with Tolsia High. With a 6 point margin the Lady Panthers are heading to the State Championship next week down in Charleston.
  • March 2 a Mary Ramsey is the longest serving coach and one of the winningest. Last night Ramsey and Coach Paxton kept the team together and excelled!
  • March 2 a In small town America where things to be proud of are few and far between, we've got something today.
  • March 2 a Congrats Clay High Lady Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • March 2 a Don't worry clickers, we'll get back to the normal stuff latter today.
  • March 1 p Thanks Helen, John & Dixie, Mike & Linda, Lois, and Donald & Judith for donating during the online save the web site beggin campaign.
  • March 1 p We need some more help clickers. We need more printable names to call the Sheriff. We've been using Poopy, Poopster, PoopMeister, Hopeless Holcomb, Hapless Holcomb, The Pink Thong One, and such. How about a hand folks with printable names to call the too long in office, Top Badge
  • March 1 p What sinks the most ships? Finances and not paying attention to details
  • March 1 p  Last month the County Commission voted in the latest Audit of County books. That Auditor General Audit gave the record keeping a thumbs up except for... guess who?
  • March 1 p Questions were raised  over the amount of funds used from of the Sheriff's slush fund, that's the Sheriff's  concealed weapons permit account. The problem:  money that was used and no receipts were provided the CPAs.
  • March 1 p Prior the Hopeless Administration, that account required three signatures and a paper trail of receipts. Not so now. One signature and Poof! The money's gone.
  • March 1 p  Full details in the nest Communicator, Clay County's only locally owned and operated newspaper.
  • March 1 p Heck even the Commission Pres recommended it for its entertainment value.
  • MArch 1 p Suns out. Time for a nap!
  • March 1 p  The Senate Thursday defeated a proposal that would have allowed employers and health plans regulated by the 2010 health care law to opt out of paying for medical services that are contrary to their religious beliefs or moral convictions. The vote to defeat the proposal was 51 to 48, with one Republican, Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, voting with 50 Democrats against the amendment offered by Sen. Roy Blunt, R- Mo.  Three Democrats, Sens. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia, voted with most Republicans for the proposal. Casey and Manchin are up for re-election this November.
  • March 1 p West Virginia, the great Republicrat strong hold.
  • March 1 p Everybody has skeletons in their closet. It never fails, when media starts looking at public officials, there's always something that can be found that raises eyebrows.
  • March 1 p Let's
  • March 1 After a day of heavy rain , this first day of March is being shoved into Clayberry with strong strong winds.
  • March 1 a The BDA meets this evening at 5:30 in the CCC room
  • March 1 a Fred Sampson's Roundtable Discussion program will interview two candidates for office tonight. At 6pm, Mitch Deboard submits to questions. After the ball game, around 9:15pm, a statewide candidate, a Mike Davis, will be heard on non profit, 101.7 FM
  • March 1 a Tonight the Lady Panthers are in home court Regional Tournament action beginning at 7pm. Come out and support our winning Lady Panthers.
  • March 1 a Many are emailing and asking if there is something that can be done with the Sheriff. Stuff like impeach him is at the top of the heap.
  • March 1 a The answer is, when the voter puts the wrong guy in office, there is little that can be done to get him away from the trough.
  • March 1 a The best "Get Rid of the Problem" effort is the investigation by Green Shirts into the Top Badge breaking the law. It's take an OK from State Police Colonel Jay Smithers before the investigation can get under way. That telephone number for the Green Shirt Headquarters building , 725 Jefferson Rd So Charleston is  304 746-2115.
  • March 1 a Sadly, with the forced resignation of Deputy Miles Slack Wed afternoon, Hopeless Holcomb has again put the citizenry in danger.
  • Feb. 29 p Chief Deputy Miles Slack was forced to resign from service Wed afternoon by Hapless Holcomb.
  • Feb. 29 p First some background...
  • Feb. 29 p   In this state, Sheriff's can hire anybody they want as  Chief Deputy. The Chief Deputy is not covered by state civil service regulations and requirements. Regular Deputies are.
  • Feb. 29 p One of those civil service rules states: if you are a civil service employee, you cannot run for elected office.
  • Feb. 29 p  Miles Slack was moved to the  Chief Deputy position to allow him to run for office.
  • Feb. 29 p This afternoon, while madder than double H,  Sheriff Poopy demoted Slack from the Chief Deputy slot back to the regular Deputy. As a Deputy, Slack would have to drop out of the campaign or resign from service.
  • Feb. 29 p  Before 2pm today, one time Chief Deputy Miles Slack cleaned out his gear, turned in his Badge and resignation. One strong, experienced, and trained law enforcement officer is unemployed.
  • Feb. 29 p What is the out of control Top Badge all steamed up about? Glad you asked.
  • Feb. 29 p In the next edition of The Communicator, Slack included in his Slack for Sheriff newspaper ad, "I will not hire Randy Holcomb if elected for office".
  • Feb. 29 p Around the county, the only  question asked the candidate for office is: Are you going to hire Randy if elected. Slack had no choice but to put that myth to rest.
  • Feb. 29 p Worse yet, it's none of the Poopmeister's business who the new Sheriff hires.
  • Feb. 29 p Once again the nasty dirty underbelly of Clayberry politics has reared its ugly head.
  • Feb. 29 p Slimy puke Randy Holcomb just sank to an even lower station in life.
  • feb 29 p
  • Feb. 29 p This morning the County Commission held an emergency meeting to  hire a new attorney to go after a writ of mandamus court order to compel the Sheriff to do his job.
  • Feb. 29 p Sounds like we're repeating ourselves?  True
  • Feb. 29 p  One week ago today, during a secret meeting of the CCC , Larry Darryl and Darryl voted to hire local attorney Mike Asbury Jr to go after the Sheriff. This morning Slinky said in public that Asbury  bailed out of the job  thinking such a case would be against his business interests.
  • Feb. 29 p Replacing him will be Charleston Suit, Bill Murray.
  • Feb. 29 p A Writ of Mandamus is a court order signed by a Judge mandating performance.
  • Feb. 29 p Remember Murray?  A couple months back it was Murray and senior Barrister John Mitchell that defended Bobby Hanshaw in a murder trial. In that case, Hanshaw walked away free and clear. Not so long ago, it was Mitchell that got another murder case  (out in Widen where the wife shot the hubby with a shotgun) tossed from the docket
  • Feb. 29 p With a strong track record, Bill Murray has the CCC football now.
  • Feb. 29 p  While it's true Hopeless Holcomb is allowing his Black Shirts to once again do road patrols, a couple notes.
  • Feb. 29 p  On Friday Feb. 17th  on county Letterhead, The Big Badge faxed out a letter stopping his Dept from doing road patrols. So far, there hasn't been a letter repealing that order.
  • Feb. 29 p  Secondly, without a Writ in place, what's to say that the Top Badge won't come back tomorrow or the next day, and say, Boys, lets stop the road patrols again.
  • Feb. 29 p Anyway you look at it, the 100% loser is the 10 months to go in office, Sheriff. As the laughing stock of the region, without his foot stomping mad breathalyser machine, and without any fallout for the Magistrates or Prosecutor's office, place the big L right smack dab in the middle of the temper tantrum prone Sheriff's forehead.
  • Feb. 29 a We've got an extra day this month. It's starting off with strong thunder, rain and bolts of lightning. Internet service is off in parts of the county. will update as long as service remains on.
  • Feb. 29 a A big loss last night against Sissonville sent the Panthers home. They're out of tournament action and the season is Kapoot.
  • Feb. 29 a Not so with the Lady Panthers who have progressed to regional tournament time with the next game Thursday night at CHS beginning at 7pm. Come out and support the home team.
  • Feb. 29 a Monday evening sometime after 4 pm, Hopeless Holcomb came to his senses and told Deputies they could once again do road patrols and protect the county.
  • Feb. 29 a In the middle of negative publicity is nothing new for the Top Badge. His embarrassment to the county remains.
  • Feb. 29 a THis morning at 10am the County Commission is holding a properly noticed emergency meeting to hire a new attorney to go after the wayward Sheriff and force him thru court action to do what he promised to do while taking the oath of office.
  • Feb. 29 a This is it for the 2012 online campaign to raise funds to keep this site up and running for another 12 months. To all those that have donated, thank you.
  • Feb. 29 a For everybody else, if you like have a fairly timely and often mispelt portal of knowledge, send your hard earned non tax deductible bucks to Delta, 2278 Main St  Clay WV 25043
  • Feb. 29 a We'll let you know who the CCC select to do the Writ this afternoon if the DSL stays on at the office,
  • Feb. 28 a The CHS Panthers had a nice home court win last night over Sherman in Sectional Tournament play. Tonight they have to beat Sissonville to advance to the Regional Tournaments.
  • Feb. 28 a CHS Lady Panthers are already in Regional Tournaments with their next contest coming Thursday evening at 7pm.
  • Feb. 28 a Last night a select group (appointed by the CCC) held the first ever meeting of the 911 Advisory Board. The group will make recommendations concerning the now under construction 911 Dispatch Center to be housed next door to the Courthouse in the two old buildings that should have been torn down for parking.
  • Feb. 28 a The project is on the fast track. Looks better for the Commission President during his re election bid. Something about accomplishing something during the last 5 years comes to mind.
  • Feb. 28 a It's been a full 10 days since our Sheriff embarrassed the entire county by announcing he was ending Black Shirt road patrols. The announcement was covered by regional media outlets wall to wall for three days.
  • Feb. 28 a On Wed of last week, the CCC told the world they would handle the problem and force the Sheriff's Dept back to work compliments a Writ of Mandamus. They said they made their decision on the Writ during a secret meeting one day earlier.
  •  Feb. 28 a Wed.. Thursday, Friday ...  came without the court order filed.
  • Feb. 28 a That was last week. Now the TV lights and radio call ins have gone silent. Clayberry is left with the big problem of the Round One not doing his job.
  • Feb. 28 a Finding workers is hard to do in these parts. With Deputies ready to resign from duty, the problem is getting worser.
  • Feb. 28 a  It's time for the County Commission to bite the bullet and redo what they screwed up last week. Larry Darryl and Darryl have a habit of going behind closed doors to make decisions. State law doesn't allow that of course but when push comes to shove, they have to follow the law. Last week when they made their secret decision without benefit of  a meeting agenda posted on the front door of the meeting house, they messed up. So messed up, any filing of a writ would be tossed.
  • Feb. 28 a When they come to their senses, the CCC will properly call an emergency meeting and this time around, vote their decision in public and finally get the ball rolling
  • Feb. 28 a In the mean time, citizens are doing something.
  • Feb. 28 a More than one have gone to the Green Shirts in the North and asked to file criminal charges against the Top Badge. Those Badges probably aren't any happier than locals with the Sheriff but.. they have a policy that says, before they can investigate complaints against  a local Badge, their Colonel has to give the green light.
  • Feb. 28 a Not sure if  a bunch of phone calls to the Green Shirt High Commander would help or pee him off, but it's an idea.
  • Feb. 28 a While we wait for elected leadership to do something constructive and lawful, enjoy today's blue skies and bright sunshine. And, don't worry about getting a traffic ticket from the Poopster.
  • Feb. 26 a After 9 days of news on the dismal performance of County Commission and the down right embarrassingly simple minded Sheriff, finally some good news.
  • Feb. 26 a The Clay High wrestling team did very well during the weekend state tournament.
  • Feb. 26 a Alex Suite and Justin Triplett are State Champions!
  • Feb. 26 a Harley Hamrick is runner up after being defeated by a three time state champ.
  • Feb. 26 a With several other wrestlers placing well, Clay High placed third overall in the statewide competition.
  • Feb. 26 a All that performance and under the direction of brand new wrestling coach, Geoff Hamrick. Not a bad way to get started!
  • Feb. 26 a 21 degrees this morning at 7:30am Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
  • Feb. 26 a Update on the state investigation of the Top Badge coming later today.
  • Feb. 25 a We've got  a dusting of snow on the ground and bright sunshine at 8 this morning. Beautiful!
  • Feb. 25 a Lizemores Fire Dept is holding a mock disaster practice run today over at Lizemores Elem School. Want something to do, or at least watch?  Check the EVENTS page for Gospel Sing fun.
  • Feb. 25 a Last night the Lady Panthers won against Herbert Hoover in Sectional Tournament play. With an excellent season under their belt and the win last night, The Lady Panthers head into Regional game time this coming Thursday night. Go Lady Panthers.
  • Feb. 24 p  As of 2pm today, no writ has been filed on the Circuit Clerk's office.
  • Feb. 24 p Happy Birthday Julia Derby Triplett

  • Feb. 24p With just a couple days left to go, for everybody that has donated to the continuation of this site, you are apreciated. Thank you Mike, Paul & Iva, Edward, Richard & Mary, Judy & J. E., Robert & Billie, Mitch, Keith, Regina & Clarence, Clinton, Madge, Don, Helen,  and Dawn.
  • Feb. 24 p For those that haven't, even with a volunteer staff, it takes real $$$ to keep even a small site like this one up and current. If you like having a portal for misspelt news and views on Clayberry, how about some help. The snail mail address is: Delta; 2278 Main Street, Clay WV 25043
  • Feb. 24 a Hello Jarred up at WVU... get back to your studies!
  • Feb. 24 a Last night the Sissonville Indians beat  the Panthers in home court action. The Panthers will be in Sectional Tournament play Monday night.
  • Feb. 24 a The High School wrestling team and a bunch of fans, parents, and students are down in Huntington for the next couple days for that state tournament
  • Feb. 24 a  It's been exactly one week since the local Sheriff issued a letter stating his office would break state law and stop providing road patrol services.
  • Feb. 24 a Since last Friday, regional media outlets have had a field day with their coverage.
  • Feb. 24 a Thinking the media would be on his side, the Top Badge was, is, wrong. From talk radio to print media, 100% have portrayed the guy as out of control and beyond belief.
  • Feb. 24 a During Wed's Commission meeting , Larry Darryl and Darryl were in lock step when they made public intentions to ask a Judge to issue a Writ of Mandamus to compel the Sheriff to do his job. On Wed they mentioned an emergency CCC meeting held one day earlier where that decision was made.
  • Feb. 24 a Emergency meetings require an agenda be posted. Without an agenda, any decision made during the not so public meeting would be null and void.
  • Feb. 24 a  No agenda was posted for the emergency meeting.
  • Feb. 24 a As of Thursday at 3:30pm, no writ has been filed in the Circuit Clerk's office.
  • Feb. 24 a People were asking, does law force the Sheriff to enforce road law? The answer is Yes.  Way down below we posted state law 61-5-8 that mandates the elected Sheriff do his job. Under that law, he could only be fined.
  • Feb. 24 a But wait there's more!!!
  • Feb. 24 a Read this:  §61-5-16. Refusal of officer to execute act or process of Legislature or order of governor; penalty. Any officer of this state whose duty it is to execute or enforce any act of the Legislature, or any legal process or proceeding arising thereunder, or any lawful order or proclamation of the governor of the state, and who shall wilfully neglect or refuse to execute or enforce the same, shall, for every such offense, be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not less than fifty nor more than five hundred dollars, and may, in the discretion of the court, be imprisoned not exceeding one year.
  • Feb. 24 a If Hapless Holcomb was found guilty of this infraction, he would be looking at 12 months in CRJ with all his buddies.
  • Feb. 24 a Still not done...
  • Feb. 24 a §62-10-9. Power and authority of sheriffs, deputy sheriffs and correctional officers to make arrests. Sheriffs and each of their deputies are hereby authorized and empowered within their respective counties to make arrests for any crime for which a warrant has been issued in violation of any laws of the United States or of this state, and to make arrests without warrant for all violations of any of the criminal laws of the United States, or of this state, when committed in their presence. ....
  • Feb. 24 a That means any Badge that sees an illegal act, they are bound by law to make an arrest. When the Poopster commands his Deputies to stand down, he is making them criminals too.
  • Feb. 24 a Lets say the guy tries to noodleback and tell a court his men comtinued to do their duty during the last seven days. Is that name infamous letter  from last Friday make him guilty of anything? Yes!
  • Feb. 24 a  §61-11-8. Attempts; classification and penalties therefor. Every person who attempts to commit an offense, but fails to commit or is prevented from committing it, shall, where it is not otherwise provided, be punished as follows:....  If the offense attempted be punishable by confinement in jail, such person shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be confined in jail not more than six months, or fined not exceeding one hundred dollars.
  • Won't it be interesting to see our elected leader sitting at the Defense table for once.
  • Feb. 24 a   11:05 Dispatchers asked for law enforcement to investigate a trespaaing complaint on Punkin Ridge. Wait    Wait   Wait Same message came across the airwaves again
  • Feb. 24 a Finally a Green Shirt took the call
  • Feb. 24 a No Black Shirts responded
  • Feb. 24 a Maybe it's time for the CCC to actually do something and order all cruisers parked.
  • Feb. 24 a Sure would be cheaper on gas and insurance rates
  • Feb. 23 a Forgot to say Happy Birthday to Jimmy Derby and Debbie McKinney earlier this week
  • Feb. 23 a Happy getting old wishes to Mike Asbury Jr,  Sheriff candidate Julia Derby Triplett, and Miriam Cliver .
  • Feb. 23 a For those staying in tonight, on 101.7 FM, Fred Sampson is hosting an environmental protection official beginning at 6pm
  • Feb. 23  a  Tonight the Panthers play their last home game for the season. Tip off comes at 7:30am
  • Feb. 23 a  As of 3:30pm Wed, the CCC promised "writ" order to force the Sheriff to do his job, had not been filed in the Circuit Clerk's office.
  • Feb. 23 a With all eyes on him, and most of em not in a favorable light, the Top Badge started wavering yesterday morning. The guy's letter states clearly  that road patrols were stopped last Friday. Now noodlebacking,  on various regional media outlets, Oh No, that's not what I meant. No matter what he meant, what the Top Badge once again put a nice little county in the regional spotlight in a not so flattering way.
  • Feb. 23 a Anyway you look at it, Hopeless Holcomb still lacks the one thing he so desperately wants, respect.
  • Feb. 23 a If you're wondering what can be done with the Sheriff, State Code makes it very clear: §61-5-28. Failure to perform official duties; penalty. Any person holding any office or appointment in this state, who shall wilfully fail or refuse to perform any duty required of him by law, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof, shall, if no other punishment be prescribed by law therefor, be fined not exceeding one hundred dollars.
  • Feb. 23 a News cycles only last a few days at best. For this contentious issue, it's about done. Unfortunately, Clayberry will have the root problem for another 10 months. Sad.
  • Feb. 23 a The Communicator's front page story deals with the thorny Hapless Holcomb issue. Great reading and easy on the pocketbook too.
  • Feb. 23 a Remember, if it's good enough for Commissioner Slinkinnnnooooooooggogoor's reading pleasure, it's got to be good!
  • Feb. 22 p We had a hot diggity dog County Commission meeting this morning where TV news crews attended as well as several local taxpayers. Most were there to see how the CCC would handle the Sheriff's work stoppage.
  • Feb. 22 p  In a nutshell, the plan is to ask a Judge to sign a writ of mandamus order which would force the Top Badge to live up to his oath of office and put Black Shirts back out on road patrol.
  • Feb. 22 p As of  11am this morning, the Writ has not been entered over at the Circuit Clerk's office.
  • Feb. 22 p Going thru Court proceedings is one way to handle the out of control problem. Wayne King offered another solution this morning. The Waynester commented: take Badge'  cruisers away away and sell the vehicles!
  • Feb. 22 p Sure would be a big savings in gas and insurance for the county.
  • Feb. 22 p A couple other morsels were announced this morning. According to the Slinkster, Green Shirt's have added one additional Badge in the county and plan to increase their numbers one more shortly.
  • Feb. 22 p Also, the real thing that has the Sheriff's thong all bunched up is, he can't have his own breathalyser machine at the Courthouse. When the Green Shirts opened their new facility in Big Otter, the one that had been used at the Courthouse for years, the one that is owned by the Green Shirts,.... they took it from the Clay Road Patrol office and put it in service (for all to use) in the Big Otter location.
  • Feb. 22 p   This morning Slinky told the world that after a meeting with a Green Shirt Sergeant: they plan to install and maintain a breathalyser back at the Courthouse. Why has it taken two monthd to get the machine in operation? Charleston is mad at our Top Badge andthose folks are taking their time. How could anybody get mad at the always loveable, huggable Poopster?
  • Feb. 22 p Turns out, when the Badges came and retrieved their breathalyser,  the temper tantrum prone Holcomb started making phone calls  in Charleston and stepped on  a bunch of toes.
  • Feb. 22 p Harold Fields once said, don't step on toes that can come back and kick your butt.  The Poopster must not have been listening.
  • Feb. 22 p  So what is the conviction rate of our Prosecutor? This morning  a figure was advanced. A 13% conviction rate, down from 70%.
  • Feb. 22 p Of course that 13% must have come from the Hapless Holcomb based on some kind of phoney math.     For instance, a driver is charged with DUI, speeding, no sticker and something else. The driver cops a deal for say just the DUI and the rest are tossed.   What's the conviction rate clickers?
  • Feb. 22 p Hopeless Holcomb was at the Courthouse this morning but chose not to attend the Commission meeting.     TV 8 and 13 were there  filming. Check the boob tube at 6.
  • Feb. 22 p  FInally from this morning, some outstanding news, Linky Poo announced that he is a reader of the Communicator. Yelp Yelp! He assured the world of its accuracy too!
  • Feb. 22 p FInally, after all these years of work and thinking he didn't even read the source of news / views and then low and behold, he's a reader... well maybe a slow reader.
  • Feb. 22 a If you're not so happy with the wittle Sheriff flipping his powerful middle finger at the entire county's safety needs, it's a good time to speak up during the County Commission meeting this morning at 10 am.
  • Feb. 22 a Politics is an interesting thang. Like....
  • Feb. 22 a Commissioner Slinky wants to get back in office in May and suck on the trough for 6 more years. To do that he needs the support of the Top Badge. Should be fun to watch how he handles this matter.
  • Feb. 22 a On a more important matter. Lets say one of our Badges is going down the road and sees something serious,  a car wreck, a domestic, a vehicle driving so out of control it's dangerous. The Badge is under orders to do no road work.
  • Feb. 22 a Will he do the right thing and handle the situation or follow orders? Our guess, he'll break ranks and do the right thing.
  • Feb. 22 a One guy on talk radio yesterday asked if such directives to reduce public safety by our Sheriff would be grounds for a lawsuit. The answer is, you bet it is!
  • Feb. 22 a But of course getting the county sued is nothing new for the rotund one!
  • Feb. 22 a Heads Up: If you're a social worker and are looking for a job, Thursday is the last day to mail a resume for the opening over on the JOBS page.
  • Feb. 21 p Yelp! The Communicator made it to newstands a round the region this afternoon. Front page article deals with the most recent embarrassment brought to the county by none other than our wittle Sheriff.
  • Feb. 21 p Pick up a copy today.
  • Feb. 21 p This afternoon, Radio 580AM down in Charleston spent a lengthy amount of time discussing our Top Badge's decision to stop local Deputies from handling road patrol duties. They even interviewed a local community leader.
  • Feb. 21 p Tonight at 6pm the School Board convenes a meeting down at H E White Elem. The Pentagon finally made available online the meeting agenda
  • Feb. 20 p TV-13 News was at the Courthouse today.Wonder what is of interest in the NAtion of Clay for those folks. Watch the 6 pm news.
  • Feb. 20 a On this sunny Monday morning, kids are out of school as teachers and staffers regroup and come up with team ideas and take longer lunch breaks.
  • Feb. 20 a Happy Birthday Destiny Elswick
  • Feb. 20 a The big snow and nasty weather that struck southern West Virginia went around us. Might be time to put away the snow shovel and bring out the garden rake.
  • Feb. 20 a We know Spring is just a round the corner when the Farm Store sets out seeds and onion sets.  That happened last week.
  • Feb. 20 a Communicator comes out Tuesday afternoon around 4pm. Between now and then, we'll be spending our time putting that paper to bed. Our lead story will of course deal with our local Sheriff's decision last Friday to stop all road patrol and traffic stops why he stomps his feet and has a temper tantrum.
  • Feb. 20 a No updates till we  get Clay County's only locally owned and operated newspaper out the door.
  • Feb. 20 a This makes day seven of the online begging campaign. If enough donations come in, we hope to purchase better security programs for this site, buy batteries for the camera,  increase the capacity of the site, learn to spell, and maybe even add some new bells and whistles here and there.
  • Feb. 20 a All that takes $$$$. If you like having a place to come to each day for a dose of life in the last lane, please send your donation to Delta; 2278 Main Street; Clay WV 250043
  • Feb. 20 a Thanks in advance.
  • Feb. 18 a Delegate Dave Walker's Legislative Update article is now posted over on the ADVISORY page.
  • Feb. 18 a Remember Ivydale's Alice Punk Green? Our Top Badge sure will. See the EVENTS page for a benefit dinner Sunday afternoon.
  • Feb. 18 a After months of campaigning, the Pentagon was able to muster a little over 600 people to vote Yes on the School Excessive Levy. In a county of 6500 voters, that speaks volumes on the support of the local school system and how well their efforts are received.
  • Feb. 18 a The leaders on the hill often provide sugar covered statements of how well are kids are being prepared for the future.
  • Feb. 18 a The National Assessment of Educational Progress tells a different story:  Of all 11 states monitored on the 12th grade level, West Virginia's seniors ranked last. 11 percentage points off the average. almost half of West Virginia's students showed below basic achievement on this test. 39% showed basic. Only 12 % of the students ranked proficient.
  • Feb. 18 a That makes 600 or so voters that have been duped at best or more realistically, willing to sell their vote for keeping what's not working .
  • Feb. 17 p With Black Shirts no longer doing routine traffic stops or investigating crashes, sure seems like a great time to lay off a couple Badges.
  • Feb. 17 p The letter went out at noon Friday that our wittle Sheriff is miffed once again and after 4pm today, will only be doing courthouse work.
  • Feb. 17 p You got it first here. Locally owned and operated, your source for news on time is Delta Communications.
  • Feb. 17 p For all those that have already contributed to keeping this site up and running, thank you. For everybody else, how about it today, a small donation. Mail your check or money order to Delta: 2278 Main St; Clay WV 25133

  • Feb. 17 a The newest Kids Count data book is out and about.
  • Feb. 17 a While our local educators say they're doing a great job, the stats reveal something completely different for the State and county.
  • Feb. 17 a  Stuff like the number of births to teenage girls and to unmarried teenagers, both shot up dramatically. Parents and the Pentagon  up on the hill  don't seem to be doing such a good job after all.
  • Feb. 17 a
  • Feb. 16 p  With the rain coming down, sunshine is in the weather report for Friday.
  • Feb. 16 p If you haven't tried one, Connie's Drive In has some new hoagie offerings. Dandy Dandy Dandy
  • Feb. 16 p Speaking of food, the county has ben waiting for months on the opening of the new eatery at Two Run, Poppy's. Looks like they're in the process of training employees now.
  • Feb. 16 p  Yesterday we posted the dismissed charges against Roger Blankenship. That was the case where evidence was the problem and the reason for the entire thang getting tossed and Blankenship walking away a free man.
  • Feb. 16 p You know you're in for a butt chewin when the Judge apologizes to the sitting jury for the screw up.
  • Feb. 16 p So what happened? The best we can piece it together, our local Black Shirt claimed to have taken the evidence to So Charleston for processing. Later it came out that actually a Green shirt had made the trip.
  • Feb. 16 p   Without Green Shirt Green available for trial, the chain of custody issue came into play.  No evidence to admit, to case.
  • Feb. 16 p    Also, a couple weeks back, the order came that the search warrant was bogus and tossed from admission.
  • Feb. 16 p Lack of training by our Top Badge once again comes into play.
  • Feb. 16 p
  • Feb. 15 a Clay County was known for many great old time musicians. Here's a you tube interview with fiddler Wilson Douglas.
  • Feb. 15 a Real news is something that affects us. Here's another example of what's wrong with Clayberry.
  • Feb. 15 a Yesterday in Circuit Court there was a drug trial scheduled.  Jurors, judges, lawyers, expert witnesses and such, court time is expensive. Getting ready for trial takes a while to make it thru all the pretrial proceedings.
  • Feb. 15 a With jurors sitting and everything ready  to proceed.... Oh, except, there was no evidence. Black Shirt Belt was the officer of record and seated beside Asst Prosecutor Dan Dotson.
  • Feb. 15 a Judge Jack Alsop was not a happy camper as charges were all dismissed.
  • Feb. 15 a Clickers you know what's coming next don't ya...
  • Feb. 15  a Once again, it's a case of top down leadership and lack there of from our Top Badge. It's the guy at the top, the guy we elect to office that is responsible for such short comings.
  • Feb. 15 a  Change is coming Jan 1st 2013. Can't get here soon enough!
  • Feb. 15 a To keep this site up and running it takes $$$. We have a few online advertisers that know the worth of having around 2000 people a day take a look see on clayberry.org.
  • Feb. 15 a With the cost of upgrading equipment, replacing equipment, and paying monthly fees, we need some help. If you like having an online resource providing up to the minute info on the Great Nation of Clay, now is the time to help keep it alive.
  • Feb. 15 a For the next week or so, we're asking for donations to make another 12 months possible.

  • Feb. 14 p Tonight the Lady Panther take on the always hard to handle Summers County in home game action. It's also senior night at CHS
  • Feb. 14 p  With Braxton Co losing a game, the Panther's chances of improving in the ranking are great. Tonight the CCHS Panthers travel to Braxton for a match up.  Strong rivals often bring out the best and worst  behaviors and we're not talking about the players!
  • Feb. 14 p Although a Christian bishop named Valentine was martyred on February 14 in A.D. 271, there is nothing in this legend to account for the custom of choosing a sweetheart on this day. By the early 1600s, handmade valentines were customarily sent from admirers to sweethearts. About 1800 the first commercial cards appeared. Cards were usually sent anonymously. As early as 1822, an English official reported having to hire extra postal workers on this day. In 1849, Esther Howland of Worcester, Massachusetts, started selling quality valentines so popular that she was called “Mother of the American Valentine.”
  • Feb. 14 p What happens when it rains cats and dogs?
  • Feb. 14 p  You have to be careful not to step in a poodle.
  • Feb. 14 p   Can a leopard change his spots?
  • Feb. 14 p  Yes, when he is tired of one place, he can go to another.
  • Feb. 14 p Feb. is the month we come to our clickers and say pleassssssssssssssssssse help us keep this portal online and providing a source of information on the Great Nation of Clay. Delta Communications is a for profit company that depends on readers of The Communicator and clickers of this site  to keep us afloat. In County Clay "profit" is one of those words that's hard to come by.
  • Feb. 14 p Send your hard earned bucks to:  Delta: 2278 Main St; Clay WV 25043 Thanks in advance.
  • Feb. 13 p  Need a job? Fresh listing over on the JOBS page now
  • Feb. 13 p Man oh man was it a chilly weekend. Temps down around 15 degrees Sunday morning. No report of utility outages. With snowy roads, lots of scanner traffic on fender benders.
  • Feb. 13 p  The post just below provides brief coverage on last Thursday's day in court. There's more...
  • Feb. 13 p  Ashley Graham has been on a down hill path for a number of years.  A couple years back she and a boyfriend got in all kinds of trouble for breaking into area churches. With all that time served behind her, she didn't amend her ways.
  • Feb. 13 p Thursday morning Ashley was back in court on new charges of stealing and selling the stolen goods. Just moments before the trial was to start, she plead to two charges of stealing and distribution.
  • Feb. 13 p  Graham now has two violent felonies against her. One more and she'll be locked up for life. Some people are hard learners.
  • Feb. 13 p Once a year we come to you the clickers to support this online portal of information. It's the same web site that some local leaders can't stand. Nothing they  want more than to see the only source of real news fall by the wayside. Information is power!
  • Feb. 13 p  We're flat out asking for a donation. Send your hard earned bucks to Delta: 2278 Main St; Clay WV 25043 Thanks in advance.
  • Feb. 11 p On Monday we start our online begging drive to keep this site up and running for another year. An independent source for information is important today. Independent is what this web portal is all about.
  • Feb. 11 p Here's comes a good example of why clayberry.org is muchly needed.
  • Feb. 11 p In Dec 2010 Jeremiah Eagle and wifey were pulled over on Triplett Ridge for speeding. During the stop, 40 Hydros were found and the lad was arrested. During the arrest Jeremiah stated that he planned to sell the pills. Bingo!!! In addition to illegal drugs, add a second charge of distributing the stuff. Black Shirt Robert Robert Belt was the arresting officer.
  • Feb. 11 p That's what shows up in the criminal complaint and often printed in The Communicator. But Wait! There's More!
  • Feb. 11 p Instead of pleading guilty or taking some kind of plea, Eagle demanded a jury trial. He got his five hours before Judge Jack Alsop Thursday.
  • Feb. 11 p During the trial, it came out: Eagle never consented to a search of his vehicle, at first said the pills weren't his, a speeding ticket was never issued, the actual speed limit in the area was mistyped, a date on other paperwork was wrong, some paperwork was missing, there were big issues with the "chain of custody" of evidence, and and and and Jeremiah Eagle was never given his Miranda rights to keep his mouth shut.
  • Feb. 11 p  Also, with the driver of the car, his wifey, seven months pregnant and with  Belt telling Mr Eagle "Someone was going to jail right now!", only then did the prospective Dad admit to possession of Hydros and take the rap.
  • Feb. 11 p Shortly after 4pm Thursday, a jury of his peers took the parts about no consent to search , no Miranda rights given, the heavy handedness of Badge Belt, and Eagle and wife saying they didn't know how the pills got hidden in their car,  to heart. Jeremiah Eagle was found NOT GUILTY.
  • Feb. 11 p It was just last month that similar Badge actions were made public during a Magistrate trial with Belt the arresting officer. In that case, most all the charges were dismissed.
  • Feb. 11 p Belt might be a fine neighbor, brother, Dad, or something else. A trained, effective Badge, he ain't .
  • Feb. 11 p Don't blame Belt for the big Clayberry problem of untrained , heavy handed, out of control Badges and disregard of constitutional mandates.
  • Feb. 11 p The blame goes squarely on administration and leadership by our Top Badge, the rotund one, Mr Tubby, The Poopster. That's the guy that's responsible and held accountable for the respect of officers wearing the county uniform.
  • Feb. 11 p  Basics have to be trained and retrained on a  regular basis. Modern Badge skills most also be provided Clayberry officers. Local officers ain't getting such and haven't for seven years plus 6 weeks.
  • Feb. 11 p We're down to 10 months and two weeks until the County Clay gets a new Top Badge on the job. It can't come soon enough.
  • Feb. 11 p Try finding that first person info anyplace else but The Communicator and this web site. Next week our fund drive gets underway. Please support the future of good communications for this county.

  • Feb. 10 p TOnight's CHS Homecoming game is on as far as we know
  • Feb. 9p  Kenneth Keith Naylor, 81, of Elkhurst, see OBITUARY page
  • Feb. 8 p The CAEZ was the driving force behind getting a community college to locate in the Valley Fork grade school building a couple years ago. With many of their classes employing web based material, the learning center needs good high speed internet service.
  • Feb. 8 p There are some things remodeling won't fix. Like, getting high speed internet in Clayberry where Frontier Tele Co is the main provider. For many, Frontier is the only provider.
  • Feb. 8 p Not being able to get a whole class on the internet at one time is a big problem at the school. So bad was it, is it, CAEZ brought it to Frontier's attention early last year. By mid summer, the provider, never fear, we will install brand new service lines to the school by Sept 2011.
  • Feb. 8 p Frontier lied.
  • Feb. 8 p Tuesday evening during the CAEZ Board meeting, Boardsters heard that the problem still exists with no solution for the near future. That was contrary to what their Director told the group just a couple months earlier when she said that everything was much better and working fine.
  • Feb. 8 p Here's the skinny. After many complaints, Frontier was slated to install a new line to the Green Shirt barracks in Maysel to accommodate that high dollar payer. With the community college a stone's throw away, the line would have been extended there at the same time. All home customers in between the two govt agencies would have been connected up and for the first time in history, even the home users would have had speeds near to what has been promised by Frontier.
  • Feb. 8 a When the Green Shirts moved to the Northern end of the county, that stopped the construction of the planned DSL service.
  • Feb. 8p  Sure seems like the communications giant would have told someone of the change of plans. They didn't. They haven't.
  • Feb. 8 p As the only provider in that part of the county, and with all their customers paying their monthly bills, and with no place else to purchase DSL, why should Frontier cough up more money? They're getting all their going to get already!
  • Feb. 8 p Also from last night's CAEZ meeting..... The Buffalo Creek and Gauley RR Co Op is a for profit company. For profits cannot secure govt grants for the most part. Free money is something the BC&G desperately needs.
  • Feb. 8 p  As a work around, the BC&G voted last month to switch to a non profit status, become  an IRS 501-C-3 corporation. The idea being, once a non profit, the CAEZ (and other govt agencies) could offer more assistance like very low  interest loans and grants. On many occasions, loans are made and then later "forgiven" AKA, you don't have to pay em back.
  • Feb. 8 p One problem, as made public last night, the CAEZ cannot offer loans to any non profit group. The stipulation is in the CAEZ by laws according to Director Connie Lupardus.
  • Feb. 8 p As a matter of fact, the existing CAEZ loan made to the BC&G would be jeopardy if the group changes to a non profit.
  • Feb. 8 p  Back to the drawing board for the BC&G folks.
  • Feb. 8 a This morning the CCC meets at 10 am followed by a reduce your taxes Board of Review at 1pm.
  • Feb. 8 a Been on the family farm for 100 years? See ADVISORY page today

  • Feb 4 late p From the email bag:  The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it. The officer thinks that he has a nutcase on his hands but plays along with it. 'Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?'  The biker replies, 'It's a long story, so stay with me.' I was born Fred Johnson. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Johnson, MD. After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through school, got my degree, so then I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS. Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD, so now I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS, with VD. Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. Then I was Fred Johnson, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Johnson with VD. Then the VD took away my Johnson, so now I am just Fred.'

  • Feb. 2 p  Among the many emails we receive, how this question: Just wondering if the adults fighting at the ball game are going to get the same treatment  a student would?  Kicked out

  • and banned from school property and functions?
  • Feb. 2 a The EVENTS page is now loaded with stuff to do. Get out of that stuffy ole house and have some fun
  • Feb. 2 a You know it's just about Spring when Little League Sign Ups are coming Saturday. How about a grant writing work shop?   See ADVISORY page
  • Feb. 2 a Although our County Commission maintains that no one reads this web portal... In response to an email on the enthusiastic fans after a recent Braxton County B Ball game, a follow up email :  About  the e-mail you received regarding the adults acting like children. Their solution was to not play that team anymore. What an idiot. The teams  have  no control over the fans and what they do. I was there, I saw nothing major , no bloodshed, no punches. Verbal actions are allowed. I love fans that get passionate with the game. Let the kids play, let the adults scream, let the gym roar. after the football years we need to be able to release our school spirit.
  • Feb. 2 a In response to the Excessive School Levy passing on Saturday, another email: Wouldn't it be a hoot if you publicly asked high school students to figure the percentage margin by which the levy passed without using a calculator?  lol
  • Feb. 2 a While you're waiting on the update and goofing off at work, here's the web link for video on the Morris Brothers Old Time Music Festival.
  • Feb. 1 a 52 year old Fabion Brown made the news last August and Oct. He's back here again.
  • Feb. 1 a In Aug the guy was pulled over (Teaberry Turn) for no tail light and such. According to Fabion, the pull over resulted in a ticket for public intox and Black Shirt Robert Belt taking all his beer.  Yelp, that's a ticket for public intox and they let him drive on home
  • Feb. 1 a Not liking someone swipe his beer and feeling the local black Shirt was hassling him, Brown asked for a trial on the charge
  • Feb. 1 a On Oct 14th the scanner was a buzz with a drunk driver banging into the Pisgah bridge followed by the arrest once again of Fabion
  • Feb. 1 a After that bust, Belt took the cuffs off Brown in the holding cell long enough for a butt kicking attitude adjustment class. Before Belt could get the needed blows in, old fat Fabion managed to do some damage to Belt as well.    That added a 6th charge of battery to a Badge.
  • Feb. 1 a As for the first five charges, Fab said those were trumped up. Stuff like, how can you be charged for drunk driving when Law didn't show up for an hour, he wasn't in a truck when arrested, and really wasn't drinking until well after getting out of the truck. Plus, when they said he had drugs on him, those pills turned out to be sugar pills for diabetes.
  • Feb. 1 a Once again, according to Fabion Brown, harassment was the reason for the arrest.
  • Feb. 1 a You might remember that Oct arrest. That's the one where our Top Badge mandated to a temporary Magistrate that a $10,000 cash only bond be set and told those in the old Courthouse, There ain't a Brown that can come up with $10,000 cash!
  • Feb. 1 a Within about 12 hours, before noon on n a Saturday to boot, they did.
  • Feb. 1 Harassment and out of control Badge activities in small town America? Could it be? Could it be?
  • Feb. 1 a Fabion thinks so and based on the cash bond requirement, the Badge taking off the cuffs for a holding cell butt kicking session, and such, you decide.
  • Feb. 1 In addition to demanding a trial for that August arrest, Brown did likewise for the Oct incident.  Yesterday afternoon he got his day in Magistrate Court.
  • Feb. 1 a  With some good legal representation by John Mitchell Sr and our own Waynester King, Fabion Brown walked out of the Courthouse with all but the Battery to a Badge charge dropped.
  • Feb. 1 a Punishment for the one guilty plea amounted to a 30 day  "stayed" sentence in CRJ, 6 months unsupervised probation (no pee testing) and $185.50 in court costs.
  • Feb. 1 a Often, plea deals are worked when the Government doesn't want their dirty laundry aired out during a full blown trial. At other times a plea is done when the case against the bad guy is wishy washy, trumped up and without merit. All three might be the case this time around.
  • Feb. 1 a  Black Shirt Robert Belt was on hand for hearing. During and after negotiations, the guy didn't look too happy.
  • Feb. 1 a Once again, top down leadership is lacking in the Sheriff's Dept is.
  • Feb. 1 a Fortunately, just 11 months left before that changes.
  • Feb. 1 a Good but not soon enough.
  • Jan 31 a From the email bag: lost dog in the Bickmore area since yesterday .  More specific by Leggs Welding.  She is a Shiba Ina (looks like a red fox) about 25lbs with dog tabs with phone numbers.  Cash reward is being offered also.  She wen missing from Sibert & Arbutus Osborne's house. If anybody has seen her please call:  587-4562 or 587-7521
  • Jan 31 a Suppose to be in the mid 60's today with bright sunshine galore. Now that's a great winter day.
  • Jan 31 a Happy birthday wishes for Christa Ramsey, Debbie Procious, and Tina Adkins.
  • Jan 31 a Last night's Panther win over Herbert Hoover in overtime was a nail biter right down to the end. Final  68 to 66. Even the adults in the crowd did well!
  • Jan 31 a As for last week's rumble after a b ball game, from the email bag: It is appalling to read about the misbehavior of the adults at the ballgame the other night.  Scholastic sports are suppose to build character, and not the inappropriate behavior displayed at the event.    I am very surprised at the  poor example displayed by the coaches and the ADs.   They are setting such poor  behavior for their students to immolate   The WV SAC should prohibit the two schools from playing each other in the future.
  • Jan 31 a Tonight the Lady Panthers play in home court action beginning at 7:30pm  Go Lady Panthers!
  • Jan 31 a Delegate Dave Walker's latest Legislative Update column is now posted over on the ADVISORY page.
  • Jan 30 p  With one election behind us, this is opening day for the Primary Election 2012.
  • Jan 30 p The final day for filing for office was Saturday at midnight. Here in Clayberry, we didn't have one Republicrat sign up for a run.
  • Jan 30 p  Incumbents and incumbents alone signed up for the Magistrate run.
  • Jan 30 p In the Assessor race, Peter Triplett and incumbent Teresa Lane will battle
  • Jan 30 p When Jerry Slinkinoooger retired from the Pentagon he needed another trough  to feed at. He won a perch on the County Commission. This time around Mitch DeBoard will try and unseat the guy.
  • Jan 30 p For Sheriff, with the wittle round guy unable to run a third term, Deputy Miles Slack and one time Florida Badge Sam Morris will try for the position. PLUS PLUS PLUS....
  • Jan 30 p Although not a first for Clayberry, we have a females candidate seeking the Sheriff's spot. Julie  Derby Triplett. Remember her? That's one of Dave Derby's daughters, the one that served her country in the military,   and the one that lives beside H E WHite Elem school in Bomont.
  • Jan 300 p That third candidate should make for a real interesting race if all three get out and campaign for office
  • Jan 30 p   Here's an interesting race. Delegate Dave Walker serves all but two precincts in County Clay. This time around, Dave will have a challenger in the form of Dan Sizemore.
  • Jan 30 p Sadly we report, in a county where good paying jobs are in short supply, that's it for the list of challengers.
  • Jan 30 a During each of the past (3) Excess School Levy elections, around 1000 or so came out to vote on average. With 350 or so directly employed by the Pentagon and each of those married to a voter plus close family members, it's easy to see, it's almost impossible for such a fleecing to fail.
  • Jan 30 a Of the 1045 that cast a mark this time around, 408 did so with a NO vote. That quite a change from years past when No votes were few and far between.
  • Jan 30 a It was interesting to watch the votes come in Saturday night. First to do so was Maysel precinct where there were more No's than Yes's. When announced on the Courthouse PA, mouths fell open, there was quiet. The only other precinct that counted more No's than Yes's was Ivydale that's still smarting from loosing their community school a couple years back.
  • Jan 30 a With WIden being the last to come in, all votes were counted by 9pm. In the County Clerk's office, Pentagon officials grinned broadly. Superintendent Kenneth Tanner handed out ball caps and carry bags. He was smiling ear to ear.
  • Jan 30 a By pulling out every stop and twisting every arm, the local leaders were able to suck up more tax dollars for pet perks instead of the three R's. It's done for another five years.
  • Jan 30 a Last Tuesday evening was the big win by the Lady Panthers over Braxton County. Most noteworthy was Jaycee Markle scoring her 1000th point. That should have been enough to make history. but there was more.
  • Jan 30 a  About as soon as the game ended Braxton County Officials hostilities erupted. Had the belly butted and head locked parties not been separated there's a strong likelihood that a few fledged fight would have broke out.
  • Jan 30 a It takes a few days for the cell phone movies, pictures and descriptions to make their way around the county. After collecting those all together, here's what we think happened.
  •  Jan 30 a Boardster Dave Mullins gave the Braxton Coach a bunch of grief during the game about  standing out on the court. After one of those "Get off the Court Coach" statements, it got under the Coach's skin who turned and yelled back, "SHUT YOUR MOUTH"
  • Jan 30 a Just like picking a scab, Dave worked on the Coach thru out the game.
  • Jan 30 a Near Mullins was a go with a brand new video camera . At some other point, the Coach yelled at that guy with " I stuff that thing up your.."
  • Jan 30 a Behind the Braxton Coach, up on the CCHS stage were Mike Mullins and Ron Sirk. When Sirk (Yes the world's oldest Athletic Director can still see a little bit) saw a on court screw up, he let out his feelings.
  • Jan 30 a Reacting to that, the thin skinned Braxton Coach turned and gave back a whole volley of  out of control replies.
  • Jan 30 a  Across the Court from Sirk was the Braxton County AD. After the exchanges against Sirk, he started pointing to the Braxton County AD indicating there was a problem with their Coach.
  • Jan 30 a The stage was set. The Braxton Coach had let locals get under his skin.
  • Jan 30 a With the final buzzer sounded, the Braxton Coach came at Dave Mullins with his finger pointing and belly butted our local Boardster. With fist pulled back, Dave and the Coach were separated by Brian Holcomb (it looked like).
  • Jan 30 a Across the way the Braxton AD came across the court for Sirk. Somewhere in there, Magistrate Jeff Boggs came into play.  After providing a head lock and then receiving a headlock, that entanglement was separated.
  • Jan 30 a Normally Badges are on hand for sporting events. That was the case last Tuesday but those guys skiddaddled just before game's end to answer a domestic violence call.
  • Jan 30 a Up on the stage was a tall skinny old Braxton County lady who started yelling at the CHS VP. Something about the students being out of control. Seeing that the kids were only ones behaving themselves, and not getting a sucked up reply from the VP,  the out of control parent started yelling that she would be contacting the oversight committee, the WVSSAC.
  • Jan 30 a Down on the floor, another fan yelled out,  "I'm contacting your School Board!!!
  • Jan 30 a In reply, "You just did! You just belly butted one of em over there!
  • Jan 30 a A little farther Away another yelled out, "I'M TAKING THIS TO COURT!"
  • Jan 30 a  A response came to that as well , which was, "HELL YOU'VE GOT THE MAGISTRATE IN A HEAD LOCK RIGHT NOW !!!!!!!!!!"
  • Jan 30 a  Rivalries are always fun. There even better when the crowd gets under the skin of one 'em. Yelling at Refs and Coaches , well that's just part of the fun. For once, our side did NOTHING out of line. Nothing! It was Braxton County officials that went way over the line.
  • Jan 30 a Next match up between Clay and Braxton comes Feb. 14th. Should be a great game for taking pictures.
  • Jan 30 a Note: For all cell phone picture takers, hold steady and be sure to use the highest settings on your hand held device.
  • Jan 30 a  Election 2012 coming in the next post late tonight.
  • Jan 28 late p All votes were in before 9pm . Unofficial School Excessive Levy: For 637; Against 408.
  • Jan 28 late p Run down coming Sunday am.
  • Jan 28 a Even after lots of advertising and newsprint coverage, there are people in Clayberry that will say, Gosh , I didn't know there was an election. Those are the same folks that couldn't tell ya who three Commissioners are.
  • Jan 28 a Today's the day to pick up your neighbor and go vote. As for polling places, call the County Clerk's office if you have confusion. 304 587 4259
  • Jan 28 a  Very few basketball players score 1000 points in their high school career.
  • Jan 28 a Last night during the win over Wirt County, Jaycee Markle reached that goal. Congrats!
  • Jan 28 a Get out and vote today.
  • Jan 28 a Why do some pencils have sides on them? Answer: So they don't roll off a desk
  • Jan 27 p come and support the Lady Panthers tonight when they take on Wirt County in home court action. Tip off 7:30pm Go lady Panthers
  • Jan 27 p Tomorrow is the big wrestling tournament over at the high school. Go Clay!
  • Jan 27 a A couple emailers have asked, why slow postings and little in the way of new pictures.
  • Jan 27 p Truth is, the news business has been pretty slow for the last few weeks. Outside with about everything gray, not so much available in the way of color.
  • Jan 27 p One lady asked if the ace cub reporter was sick or something. No is the correct answer. At his ripe old age the Mel Gibson Look Alike has taken up a new hobby, welding. After burning the glove finger off two pairs and a big burnt hole in his Carhart jacket, the guy is now taking a welding class .
  • Jan 27 p Saturday is the big Excessive Levy election for the school system. Early voting brought out a little over 400. Of that 400, most are school employees or immediate family members of school familes.
  • Jan 27 p During the last Excessive Levy election only 1050  came out to mark a ballot.
  • Jan 27 p Sadly we report, our unscientific online poll predicts (on average) 950 total voters with 3/4's in favor of the extra taxation.
  • Jan 27 p  In note, our online polls are notoriously wrong and are subject to email stuffing schemes.
  • Jan 27 p
  • Jan 26 p  The School System has used about every avenue they know of to promote the passage of Saturday's Excessive Levy election. Kenneth Tanner has a new venue tonight at 6pm when he appears on 101.7 FM for an hour long interview during Fred Sampson's Roundtable Discussion Program.
  • Jan 26 p In addition to hearing the questions and answers, you can watch the thang by going to the wyap.com web site , sliding way down at the bottom , and then clicking the live eye view button.
  • Jan 26 p  Put on your thinking caps clickers. What are some pencils round while others have sides. Email your answers.
  • Jan 26 a Happiest of 93rd Birthday wishes to Maureen Hardman. Salute!!
  • Jan 26 a Howdy Odie.
  • Jan 26 a Happy Birthday Brian King
  • Jan 26 a The lead story in the latest edition of the Communicator covers the very serious and growing problem of domestic violence.
  • Jan 26  a Yesterday's Commission meeting came and went without much hoopla. Those kind of meetings happen when public bodies make their decisions in private and or just walk in lock step with a nod and smile.
  • Jan 26 a Early voting in the School Excessive Election is all done. Not sure of the final count but it's low with most of the early voters employed by the Pentagon. That's just how they planned it too.
  • Jan 26 a If we were to have a major snow with icy roads, couldn't get any better for the folks seeking to strip your wallets of a little more $$$. Weathercasters are predicting a light snow Friday night followed by heavy rainfall.
  • Jan 26 a With the big vote day coming Saturday, Team Tanner is pulling out every stop and stretching every statement to the max. More letters are being sent out to every parent threatening them with diminished results.
  • Jan 26 a Truth is, no matter what they peddle in front of your nose, the Clay County School system is about as low on the success totem as it can be. Check out the latest Communicator for the complete WesTest scores and see for yourself.
  • Jan 26 a Community activist Fred Sampson's Roundtable Discussion show returns to 101.7 FM tonight at 6pm
  • Jan 26 a Back to the Jan 28th Excessive Levy election. Email over your predicitons clickers. Question 1  How many voters will cast ballots in the contest and Question 2 , will the thang pass or fall. Thanks.
  • Jan 26 a Quit being all droopy lipped today. Get out and have some fun!
  • Jan 24 late p  The Communicator is now on news stands across the region and heading to your mail box even as you read this post.
  • Jan 24 late p Wed is the final day of early voting for or against the Excessive School Levy
  • Jan 24 late p County Commission meets Wed morning at 10am
  • Jan 24 late p Tonight the Lady Panthers won a hard fought battle taking down Braxton County 55 to 50.
  • Jan 24 late p As the game ended another battle broke out. Nope it wasn't the kids at it but the adults. At one point a big guy had Magistrate Jeff Boggs in a headlock before being separated. Dave Mullins was also in the battle zone. The usually raucous Braxton crew was particularly out of control after the loss. More as we get it.
  • Jan 24 late p Never a dull moment in Clayberry.
  • Jan 24 a We said no new posts until the Communicator makes it out the door
  • Jan 23 p  It's now a two person race for County Commission. Steve Ware is the new Clay High Football Coach. 311 have early voted in the School Excess election. Domestic violence is in the news. And, a look back at the second half of 2011
  • Jan 23 p  Those and a whole bunch more in Tuesday's Communicator
  • Jan 23 p No web updates until we get that puppy to bed
  • Jan 23 a Before we get into this week, although it's wet and gray outside, it could be snow and ice. Be thankful for what we've got.
  • Jan 23 a Happy Birthday Banker Chick, Barbara Fields
  • Jab 23 a Delegate Dave Walker's Legislative Update column is now posted over on the ADVISORY page
  • Jan 23 a Last week Town Council side stepped the thorny issue of employees demanding 25%+ pay raises. The special meeting (Thursday) topics came as a direct result of the elected body providing a hefty increase to sewer plant operator Jeff Hamilton. He went to $18 per hour.
  • Jan 23 a When that raise was given other employees decided they wanted more $$
  • Jan 23 a Before the Thursday afternoon meeting, Jeff Hamilton turned in his resignation after gaining employment and an even larger hourly rate over at the Summersville Log Factory
  • Jan 23 a With Hamilton increase null, upset employees Terry Traub and Drema Thomas had less bargaining power.
  • Jan 23 a Since neither had had a pay increase for a while, both were provided a $1 per hour increase
  • Jan 23 a  Full details in Tuesday's Communicator
  • Jan 23 The Pentagon is down to the last few days before their Excess School Levy election coming Jan 28th. 250 or more have cast their ballots during early voting time which ends this Wed at 4pm
  • Jan 23  a  With local parents already peed over all the beggin letters brought home by students and Harrison County voters downing their Excess Levy by a two to one margin, Team Tanner has to pull out all the stops and quickly.
  • Jan 23 a What ta do  What ta do.... Got it, make something that ain't, sound real
  • Jan 23 a Each Spring as a matter of law, all those employed by the Sch Bd are put on notice that unless the Feds come thru again, their job MAY be in jeopardy. For the last many years, those notices are provided employees in April.
  • Jan 23 a What ta do What ta Do....
  • Jan 23 a Tonight the Board meets at 6pm over at Clay Elem School. On the agenda is a big long list of employees that could be affected if the Feds cut funding PLUS PLUS this time around,, just four days before the Excess Election, another line was added.
  • Jan 23 a  If the Levy fails, the sky will fall, your kids will grow warts and all the employees were be laid off.
  • Jan 23 a  Nice scare tactic and perfect timing for non thinkers
  • Jan 23 a During this depression to ask for an additional $600,000 to their 18 million dollar budget is a lot to handle.
  • Jan 23 a Over in Harrision County, those folks said no (2575 voting Yes and 5028 saying heck no) two days ago.
  • Jan 23 a Might just happen here too
  • Jan 20 late p  Ernest Ray Blankenship, 84, of Maysel, see OBITUARY page
  • Jan 20  a Lets see now, what have we forgot....
  • Jan 20 a Get that knee healed up and Happy Birthday to Eric Todd Mc Glothlin
  • Jan 20 a Clint Salyers ain't gettin any younger, Happy Birthday Clint
  • Jan 20 a Tonight the Lady Panthers play in home court action. Tip off is 7:30pm. Go Lady Panthers
  • Jan 20 a Don't forget, you can cast your vote for or against the Excess School Levy all day Saturday at the Courthouse. Don't miss a chance to have a say in how the Pentagon runs the county.
  • Jan 20 a It's a scary thought but the Legislature is in session again. One of the first bills the Senate folks took up was  giving all county officials a pay raise.
  • Jan 20 a Good money, good jobs, why not run for office.
  • Jan 20 a We knew their were issues when we hired the Top Badge seven years ago. Those shortcomings have surfaced during his tenure at the helm. Most in the county now realize that.
  • Jan 20 a Wed afternoon during a prevent domestic violence meeting at the Courthouse, a meeting that our Sheriff chose not to attend, the topic of having a  in county day reporting center came front and center.
  • Jan 20 a Those from out of county , those with limited knowledge of the Great Nation of Clay, openly asked why such a  facility had not been set up.
  • Jan 20 a After giggles and smirks, Prosecutor Samples commented that he didn't see anyway to get around the obstacle.
  • Jan 20 a There is one way to correct the extra heavy problem, an election!
  • Jan 20 a It's time to run for office. How about you?
  • Jan 19 late p Help Please:  Lost dog in the Ovapa area.  jack russell terrier, answers to katie, rough coat, yellow and white. companion to sylvia summers. if seen call 587-2521 or 587-7998.
  • Jan 19 a So important is free speech, our founding fathers spoke of the absolute right in the US Constitution. The day of the printing press has evolved. Getting the word out has grown into the internet with hands off government censorship.
  • Jan 19  a Before Congress are two bills , SOPA and PIPA, which would provide a method of removing web portals and services by the push of a button.
  • Jan 19 a In these days of reduced civil rights, we hope yesterday's shut down of web sites across America sends a strong and clear message to dimly lit corporate shills in DC.
  • Jan 19 a Free Give Aways today in Ivydale. Time to stand in line. See EVENTS page
  • Jan 19 a Without the mandatory agenda in place, Clay Town Council plans to meet this afternoon at 5pm to get a grip on outrageous employee demands for wage increases in excess of 25%. It's thorny to say the least.
  • Jan 19 a Employees aren't making the demand based on inflation nor length of time since previous increases but because one employee received a big time increase last month after passing a sewer operation classification test.
  • Jan 19 a Nearly 150 early voters have cast their ballots in the Excess Spending Levy election. What sounds like a low number is actually pretty good when reminded that less than 900 of the county's 6500 voters used their right during the last election cycle.
  • Jan 19 a  Candidates for the general election are equally sparse. All incumbents are again signing up for more public $$$.
  • Jan 19 a With our Top Badge down to 11 months left in office and unable to run again, we have two seeking the perch, Miles Slack and Sam Morris.
  • Jan 19 a One of our other dismal failures, County Commissioner Jerry What's His Name also wants another four years in office. No challengers so far but Mitch DeBord says he's signing up next week.
  • Jan 19 a How about you? Why not? Deadline for filing is Jan 28th.
  • Jan 19 a Do you own a fishing camp in the county? How about the old home place setting empty?
  • Jan 19 a Thieves were caught last weekend stealing copper from abandoned homes.
  • Jan 19 a It's a tough economy clickers. Beware!

  • Jan 17 a Happy Birthday Stephanie Ahart
  • Jan 17 a For those seeking internet access, the new computer lab in the basement of the Library will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1  to 6pm. If you need a basic course in computers, call the Library at 304 587 4254
  • Jan 17 a If you look at the EVENTS page or Main Street you'll notice, the pace  for even this county has slowed waaaaaaaaaaaay down.
  • Jan 17 a Have you voted for or against the Excess Levy? Early voting now in progress at the Courthouse. Have you signed up to run for elected office? You can do that in the County Clerk's office as well.
  • Jan 17 a Heard bits and pieces Saturday night on the scanner, Something about spotlighting, nlue car, shot fired at another vehicle. That was just after 11pm.
  • Jan 17 a  Shortly thereafterm Blue lights were seen at a house beside the Family Dollar Store.
  • Jan 17 a With no one sent to the slammer and little else on the chatter box, that usually means a Juvy was picked up.
  • Jan 17 a Just a guess clickers.
  • Jan 17  a From the Farmer's Almanac:   Benjamin Franklin, born on January 17, 1706, not only was a world-renowned statesman, inventor, and scientist, but also was fascinated by agriculture. To demonstrate the value of gypsum as fertilizer, he applied it to a field in a pattern that spelled out, "This land has been plastered." Sure enough, clover in the fertilized area exhibited more vigorous growth.
  • Jan 16 a On this Holiday of Remembrance morning, two new opportunities posted over on the JOBS page
  • Jan 15 p  Now firmly in the grips of Winter, 21 degrees reported this morning in County Clay.
  • Jan 15 p Commercial news outlets are providing heavy news coverage on the various Republicrat primaries. Millions are being spent to a hohum reception. Two weeks ago the talking heads hyped Iowa big time. Few mentioned that the Iowa caucus provided 0, none, zilch voting delegates in the selection process.
  • Jan 15 p Locally, a couple biggies are in high gear.
  • Jan 15 p It's sign up time to run for office. Every incumbent signed to get back at the trough. To those add, Miles Slack and Sam Morris in the Sheriff's race. Clayonains have until the 28th to sign up for a run for office. Last time around many got on the ballot in the School Board race. Hope that happens again this time as well as someone of worth running from C District for the Commissioner's perch.
  • Jan 15 p Back in June a new Mayor and Town Council were put into office. This week they tackled their first major hurdle. At issue: One employee received a hefty raise last month and now all other employees think they deserve a similar 25% or more increase. After a long long secret time, Council voted to table all action for a few days.
  • Jan 15 p Good thinkin' on their part. That may give the elected folks enough time to remind employees of two things: 1  In this state, they are "at will" employees without a contract or civil service protection  and: 2,  Go Mart is currently accepting applications.
  • Jan 15 p  The other biggy is the School Excess Levy election. Early voting began on Friday the 13th. Already over 40 have put their decision on paper at the Courthouse.
  • Jan 15 p Last time around, the extra dip in our pocket won overwhelmingly. Might be different this time around.
  • Jan 15 p During  a December Christmas concert break, Superintendent Tanner was touting the  virtues of the extra taxation only to be greeted with Boos. Lots of em! He didn't expect that for sure and left the stage.
  • Jan 15 p  Last week Pentagon letters were sent home via the kids while others arrived in the mail. Instead of helping with the cause, many parents were peed off at the arm twisting while they struggled to pay winter utility bills.  On the street,  more people are saying they ain't voting for high taxes during a depression.
  • Jan 15 p People are no longer asking: What happened to Winter?
  • Jan 15 p Temps dropped Friday morning and the snow came. Schools closed in many counties including this one.  Clayberry was blanketed with the white stuff and stayed chilly all weekend.
  • Jan 15 a  Lawrence Lowell Parsons 77, of Hartland, WV , see OBITUARY page

  • Jan 14 a Although a great game, last night the CHS Panthers lost out to Poca by 4 points.
  • Jan 14 a Light snow is continuing this morning. Drive with caution.
  • Jan 14 a Linky poo says no one reads this site. Be careful out there, we don't want to lose any of ya!
  • Jan 13 p The High School Basketball game is still on for tonight with tip off set for 7:30pm
  • Jan 13 p With the wind whipping around, it's down right chilly today in Clayberry.
  • Jan 13 p In Sweden, January 13 is the traditional day to discard the Christmas tree and end the season's festivities. A children's party is the favored way to strip the tree of its decorations, after which the children are free to "plunder" the edible treats and small gifts placed on the tree especially for the occasion. Finally, everyone "dances" the tree out the door. Singing special songs, they pick up the tree and toss it out into the snow.
  • Jan 13 p In County Clay, we open the door, toss the thang on the front porch, close the door real quick, and wait till Spring to get rid of it.
  • Jan 13 6:10 am  CLAY COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED TODAY
  • Jan 13 6:10 am Maybe it's Friday the 13th fears, or the one inch of snow, or not wanting to pee off voters on the first day of Excess Levy voting, the little crumb lickers can sleep in today.
  • Jan 12 11pm  The snow begins
  • Jan 12 9:50pm  Clay County Schools will be on a 2 hour delay Friday morning.
  • Jan 12 9:50pm  Sleep in you lucky .....
  • Jan 12 a Kids are all excited. A couple inches of snow is in the forecast for tonight. Oh Boy Oh Boy
  • Jan 12 a  All the incumbents have signed up for a repeat performance of four more years. Can we stand that? Now's the time for you or to find someone, to run for office.
  • Jan 12 a  With the Excess Levy vote coming soon, now is a special time. Now's the time to ask the School System for pie in the sky stuff. Make up something outrageous and call up Tanner. A school bus right to your door, jump rope classes every 15 minutes, underwater hikes... anything!
  • Jan 12 a The day after the election, it's too late, they won't give a hoot about our desires and won't even pretend to care.
  • Jan 12 a Something's wrong clickers. This morning Frontier DSL speed in Maysel was 1305 down and 390 up. With a usable speed, it's probably time for a rate increase.
  • Jan 11 a Last month Town Sewer Plant operator Jeff Hamilton asked for and received a pay raise. He went from about $12 per hour to $16 after passing  a Class II certification test.
  • Jan 11 a In municipal land, when one person gets a raise, all  the other employees think that's the magic ticket for them to get one. If employee A got a one penny increase, then employee B feels he or she deserves two cents more.
  • Jan 11 a Those also think they can lawfully negotiate benefit packages. Stuff like, if I don't take the hospitalization plan, I should get $2 more on the hour. With the exception of union contracts, everybody else, every other place on earth, knows, benefits can not be negotiated in lieu of hourly rates.
  • Jan 11 a Last night during the rescheduled Town Council meeting, most of the meeting was spent in secret session where employees demanded their rates go up to $18 per hour.
  • Jan 11 a  Not based on inflation rates or drastic changes in gas prices but ... just pay back, get even, if he got something I want it, greed.
  • Jan 11 a Just for the men clickers. A guy overseas decided to have his johnson tattooed. For that guy, the side effects include, rigidity on a long term basis. OK men, everybody line up behind the ace cub reporter!
  • Jan 11 a Pot update. turns out , something an occasional joint, has no negative affect on your lungs.
  • Jan 11 a On this day in history: Born 1757: Alexander Hamilton (statesman & founding father); Died 1843: Francis Scott Key (composer); Died 1874: Gail Borden (developed condensed milk); 1878: Milk was delivered in glass bottles for the first time, Brooklyn, NY; Born 1942: Clarence Clemons (musician); Born 1946: Naomi Judd (country music singer); Born 1957: Darryl Dawkins (basketball player); 2010: A 4.3-magnitude earthquake shook Southern California

  • Jan 9 a Nope it's not Christmas or birthdays or anything else. The best time of year is election season and it's here now!
  • Jan 9 a Today is the first day to file for office. So far, throwing their names in the hat, includes: Peter Triplett and Teresa Lane in the Assessor race; O Gene King for School Board; Magistrates Jeff Boggs and Mike King;  and Deputy Miles Slack for Sheriff.
  • Jan 9 a Think Clayberry needs to improve? Needs new leadership? How about you? Now's the time to step up to the plate and run for office.
  • Jan 9 a  The Excess School Levy election comes on Jan 28th. The Pentagon's idea is for a great big snow with icy roads to lower the number of Nay voters.
  • Jan 9 a It doesn't have to be that way clickers.
  • Jan 9 a Early Excess Levy voting begins this Friday, Jan 13th, and continues thru Jan 25th. Why take a chance on getting caught in a blizzard, vote early and vote often
  • Jan 9 a Town Council meets in rescheduled action Tuesday afternoon at 5pm. Town Hall is now located in the old Starcher building on Main Street. That's the brick two story building on the riverbank as you come into town.
  • Jan 9 a Council rescheduled the gathering from last week when it was snowing to beat the band.
  • Jan 9 a Not sure when CAEZ will reschedule their snowed out public meeting.
  • Jan 8 a Bright blue skies but still chilly
  • Jan 8 a Last night, 8:20pm, over the 911 air waves from the dispatcher: She is a new dispatcher, I do believe you owe her an apology.
  • Jan 8 a After several years as a for profit corporation complete with share holders, yesterday morning the Buffalo Creek and Gauley Railroad Co Op voted to change their corporate status to non profit.
  • Jan 8 a Back on Dec 20th, during their executive committee meeting, the BC&G agreed to meet with CAEZ reps and come up with a consensus recommendation on the future of their operation of the JG Bradley Campground. That recommendation was to be presented to the full Board of Directors on Jan 7th.
  • Jan 8 a  Yesterday, when asked about that vote and why it hadn't come up, the BC&G Chair said that was not on the agenda and was never on the agenda.   Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...
  • Jan 8  a    If the BC&G RR had all their non profit IRS 501-C-3 application papers in order and submitted, it'll take about 9 months to get the green light.
  • Jan 7 p  Darrell Keith Jones Jr., 34, Beechy Ridge, Bickmore, see OBIUTARY page

  • Jan 6 10:30 p Black Shirt 5 "Got one running on me ... He's hauling!"
  • Jan 6 10:30 p Before going coded, the vehicle that was fleeing was an older flatbed truck on Holcomb Hill.
  • Jan 6 p  County Clay does not have a bright future. There are few jobs and even fewer chances for a large employer locating in these parts. The only shot at more  $$$ coming our way is thru tourism.
  • Jan 6 p For that industry to grow, Clayberry needs overnight accomodations. IE: The JG Bradley Campground.
  • Jan 6 p Saturday morning at 11am in the CDC building on Main Street, the operators of the camground, the BC&G RR Co Op Board of Directors will vote on the future of the facility.
  • Jan 6 p If that group decides to walk away from the could be money making operation, we've got big problems.
  • Jan 6 p  The CAEZ group has the lease on the creek side land. Their Director has already said in public that she has a man and woman willing to live on site and run the place.
  • Jan 6 p Sounds good but based on the track record of the CAEZ getting things done in this county, .......
  • Jan 6 a Happy Friday to one and all
  • Jan 6 a Want something to do this evening? Tonight the Panthers are in home court action with Braxton coming to town. Also, the Big Otter Community Center has the Appalachian String Band live and in person. Music starts at 7 B Ball tips off at 7:30
  • Jan 6 a Starting off the new year as 2011 ended, there were not enough members present to convene a Business Development Authority (BDA) meeting last night. Without the ability to vote a decision, those assembled talked of 2012 plans and accomplishments  from 2011. Yes they have a few from last year
  • Jan 6 a Full write up in Tuesday's Communicator

  • Jan 5 a Got someone in mind? Email the name and reasons for consideration.
  • This is officially the 12th and final day of Christmas. From the Farmer's Almanac: Twelfth Night is an English folk custom that marks the end of Christmas merrymaking and, in the ancient Celtic tradition, the end of the 12-day winter solstice celebration. On Twelfth Night, it was customary for the assembled company to toast one another from the wassail bowl. In Old English, wassail means "Be in good health," but the term also was applied to the drink itself (usually spiced ale).
  • Jan 4 a The little snot lickers are finally out of the house and back in school. Most parents are saying, good!
  • Jan 4 a It's good that the Hartland bridge is back on track and set for construction this Summer . Emails have come in complaining that the meeting making that announcement was held in Charleston on the coldest day of the year. We agree
  • Jan 4 a  Yesterday's freezing winds and snow covered roads are exactly what the Pentagon wants on Jan 28th, election day for their Excess Levy election. Last time around, nine inches of snow fell the night before and for some reasons, State Road salt shakers were all but impossible to find that day.
  • Jan 4  a  The Hartland bridge was built in the 20s and looks to be ready to fall down. Weight restrictions were put on the span decades ago. For the Southern end of the county where our few manufacturing jobs are located, the bridge is critical.
  • Jan 4 a State Road folks planned to replace the bridge last year. Delays came. Word had it that construction was delayed until 2013. Feeling that the thang wouldn't last that long and with loaded school buses using the bridge daily, pressure was applied
  • Jan 4 a Businessman Dave Pierson said if the span was closed, he might as well shut down his saw mill.
  • Jan 4 a Yesterday afternoon, down at the Capitol, Delegates Walker and Perry convened a meeting with State Road officials. Around a dozen or so were in attendance to hear Asst DOH Big Cheeze Marvin Murphy say: the delay is off, the new schedule is just a  few months behind, the "mussels" under the site are not the endangered species kind, and construction should get underway later this Spring.
  • Jan 4 a Quite a change!
  • Jan 4 a There wasn't good news on the replacement of the Camp Creek bridge which is seriously delayed.
  • Jan 4 a Clay Town Council nor CAEZ held their monthly meeting last night.
  • Jan 3 8:30pm  Now this is the way to polish off a long Christmas break.
  • Jan 3 8:30pm  Clay County Schools will be operating on a two hour delay Wed morning
  • Jan 3 8:30pm  Sleep in kids.
  • Jan 2 9:30 pm  CLAY COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED TUESDAY
  • Jan 2 9:30 pm YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHoooooooooooooo!
  • Jan 2 5:50pm Who are the  most popular people in Clayberry? None other than Bus Czar Mike Mullins and Sarah the school mesenger.
  • Jan 2 5:55pm  Clay County schools are on a two hour delay for Tuesday.
  • Jan 2 5:55pm What a great way to polish off a great holiday break!
  • Jan 2 5:55pm Power and other utilities remain in service for most of the county at this time. Will update if possible. Right now there are several wrecks around the county, ambulances are in very short supply, and roads are starting to ice over. Be careful out there.
  • Jan 2 5:55pm We messed up on the morning post. The County Commission will be meeting Tuesday morning, Tuesday morning at 10am .
  • Jan 2 p Forgot to mention in the morning post that the County Commission will be meeting Tuesday morning at 10 am to set meeting dates, times, and such. Afterwards, they and anyone else that wants to make the trip can attend a meeting with the State Road on why construction of a new Hartland Bridge was delayed. State Capitol, Bldg 5, 1pm
  • Jan 2 p At 1pm today, roads are snow covered but treated. The snow is still falling. It is beautiful in Clayberry!
  • Jan 2 a Hello Cindy Clark. Your Mom says Hello.
  • Jan 2 a The radio station is off the air this morning. Not sure why.
  • Jan 2 a Thanks all that that participated in the mystery head online challenge last week. Dave Mullins' chrome dome must have been too easy, everyone that tried a guess, got it right.
  • Jan 2 am With Christmas decorations down and new year resolutions already forgotten, we're ready to get back to work.
  • Jan 2 a With predictions of up to 5 inches of snow on the way for our county, kids are getting fired up over a chance of another day off of school tomorrow.
  • Jan 2 a With schools, government and about everything else closed today, there's a full week coming our way.
  • Jan 2 a CAEZ, the BDA, and Town Council meeting slated for Tuesday, you never know what may pop up. Thursday the BDA folks will try to form a quorum for their once a  month gathering.
  • Jan 2 a Sometime before Saturday's quarterly meeting of the BC&G RR, the Board has to meet with CAEZ reps to see if there is any possible way to maintain the partnership for the operation of the JG Bradley Campground.
  • Jan 2 a  For those that missed it, the mighty Clayberry ball dropped right on time during the 101.7 FM New Years Eve Dance. Once again, it was volunteers that made the difference for the great annual event.
  • Jan 2 a We're able to make this post this morning compliments of Frontier Tele which offered a lighting 420/210 DSL speed this morning at 9:30am. No where near their advertising but with a little patience, doable.
