June 2012
  • June 29 p This site went dead sometime this morning. No it wasn't the guru goofing up or not paying the bill on time, the IX server is over in Kentucky and they lost their power supply plus the backup generators went kapuuut. Entire site should be visible again late Friday evening.
  • June 29 p Each Saturday night in June the local radio station hosts an outdoor music show in their parking lot.  This week the band pooped out on em  and station is looking for a replacement without much luck.
  • June 29 p Got a band? Want to play on the radio? Call 304 587-7586 after 5pm today for info.
  • June 29 p If no band can be found, the show will be cancelled.
  • June 29 p Man Oh Man it's hot in Clayberry. Thursday evening at 6pm it  was 102 degrees. Today we're hovering around the same temp and the humidity is up. Nasty!
  • June 28 a Two weeks ago, during the School Board meeting, Superintendent Tanner told assembled parents, a new school zoning change shall be implemented this fall. The change would force parents to send students to the nearest school instead of one of choice. For working parents, the choice facility is Clay Elem.
  • June 28 a KT explained it's unfair to have some schools with small class size and others with up to 28 students huddled together. He specifically mentioned the 4th grade class at Clay Elem class being a large one, there aren't any spare class rooms to add another class, and state regs prevent him from adding an additional 4th grade teacher.  He said notice would be sent out soon.
  • June 28 a That was a couple weeks back. Moms in attendance didn't seem too pleased.
  • June 28 a If you look on the school web site, in between all t he out of date material, you'll notice the Pentagon is hiring a 4th grade teacher at Clay Elem.
  • June 28 a All together now, Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
  • June 28 a From yesterday's County Commission meeting, according to the Linkster, his new 911 Center is about almost complete. Spending a million dollars so far is making one small room for the dispatch center look real nice.
  • June 28 a While updating those in attendance, he added that dispatchers would soon be hired and those hired, "we will hire Clay County people."
  • June 28 a Lets see if they live up to that promise this time around.
  • June 28 a The latest Communicator has coverage of the $712,000+ bid opening for 911 center electronics. Yesterday Larry Darryl and Darryl reported that was too much $$$ and they would start piecing together purchases, one by one in an attempt to get costs down.
  • June 28 a With most of the county without potable wa wa , a couple years ago taxpayers requested the CCC intervene and set up a place to dispense "city water" in the Lizemore end of the county. Some kind of meter hooked to the Clay County PSD wa wa line.
  • June 28 a With dry weather here again, that subject returned yesterday.
  • June 28 a PSD Chair Fitzwater told the elected folks, such a meter costs a bunch, too much a bunch.
  • June 28 a With people still drinking frog pee, Amanda Moore will look into grant funding for the meter.
  • June 28 a With all the $$$ going to Link's election year project, there probably isn't much left to provide for basic needs of the people
  • June 27 a  County Commission meets Wed morning at the Courthouse. Main feature begins at 10am
  • June 27 a The Communicator made it out the door Tuesday afternoon loaded with interesting stuff on life in  Clayberry. The lead story deals with Ark Mountain Adventure Camp and an interview with its owner, James Tyler.
  • June 27 a One of County Clay's finest is making the news circuit for his less than professional conduct while in uniform. In the case Conley v Sgt A D Nichols.
  • June 27 a Of course, out of control conduct is nothing new for that lad. Now it's costing tax payers $1000's. Thank goodness for the ACLU of West Virginia and their efforts to defend the guy (or girl) on the street.
  • June 27 a On this day in history: Born 1880: Helen Keller (author, lecturer); Born 1927: Bob Keeshan (Captain Kangaroo);   Born 1930: Ross Perot (businessman);  1975: Entertainment duo Sonny and Cher called it quits as husband and wife (divorce final this day); 1979: Muhammad Ali announced his retirement from boxing
  • June 26 midnight:30  With strong winds blowing the flag every which a mu way and temps around 55 degrees, Tygart Valley short gamed the Clayberry 9 and 10 year old All Stars tonight. The season is over for our team.
  • June 26 Now go back to sleep!
  • June 25 p Beginning around 3:15 this afternoon local scanner traffic indicated that a body had been found in the Dundon area past the ballfield. According to TV-3 web reports, Green Shirts are not confirming the deceased.
  • June 25 p We're in shut down mode until we get the Communicator out the door sometime Tuesday mid day. No updates until then. You're on your own clickers.
  • June 25 p The big news is our 9 and 10 year old All Stars short gamed (21 to 10)  Summersville Sunday afternoon.  Our team is moving on this evening as they take on  Tygart Valley, 8pm.
  • June 25 p Go Clay All Stars
  • June 25 p  School buses were rolling again for summer school kids. For the big ones, it's a chance to make up lack of performance during the regular school year. For the rug rats, summer school is the free baby sitting service which includes a daily trip to the swimming pool.
  • June 25 p One of the big problems in Clayberry is the lack of communications among government agencies, non profits and the like. Often important information never get disseminated  for all to benefit.
  • June 25 p Such provides less than stellar results
  • June 25 p Like....
  • June 25 p 9 days ago Jerry Holcomb disappeared from the Dundon area of the county. The 62 year old hasn't been seen since. If you look on the Green Shirt web site under their missing persons page, no mention.
  • June 25 p Locally, Badge agencies failed to get the missing notice out to the public via radio, web sites, nor the only local newspaper. Not even posters thumb tacked to poles.
  • June 25 p Sad the feller is missing and worse that locals aren't informed and better able to keep an eye out for those in need.
  • June 25 p  We received this email: Our brother Jerry "Casper" Holcomb has been missing since Saturday night from our sister, Betty, house in Dundon. • June 22 a Happy 174th day of the year.
  • Quiz: A man goes into a bank and asks the teller to cash his check for $63, and specifies NO ones and NO change. The teller hands him six bills and says "Thank You". What are the bills?
  • June 22 a People are asking about Rowland Grose who plead guilty to several child pervert felonies two months ago. His sentencing is scheduled for July 12 at 1pm.

  • June 22 a Summer Grand Jury convenes July 10th.
  • June 22 a Murder for hire guy Brent Boggs will be on trial July 25th.

  • June 22 a It's not often that a West Virginia politicians speak the truth. Senator Jay did this week when he told Big Coal to wait up and smell the java.... the days of coal are just about over.
  • June 22 a Across the country there are 680,000 wells where crude and chemical waste is being pumped. Corporations say, nothing to worry. We now know the stuff is seeping into our drinking water. Yummy.

  • June 22 a Quiz answer: A fifty, a five, and four two dollar bills.
  • June 21 late p Thomas Euegene Geiger II, 24, of Procious, see OBITUARY page
  • June 20 a Happy Birthday to all of us. With government offices closed, 149 years ago when Virginia didn't want us, when Abe only allowed us to be American under his terms, and when they wouldn't even give us our own state name, West Virginia came to be.
  • June 20 a Today we're the red headed step child of the country, our President doesn't need us, and we come in dead last in most every poll, my how things stay the same.
  • June 20 a From the Charleston Gazette and Charles McElwee research....
  • June 20 a  West Virginia schools rank among America's worst in student achievement, Education Week magazine reports.
  • June 20 a  The Mountain State is 49th in preparing young people for tech careers, according to the Science and Engineering Readiness Index of the American Institute of Physics. Only Mississippi is worse.
  • June 20 a  The National Assessment of Education Progress found that West Virginia eighth-graders scored next-to-last in math in 2011, again ahead of just Mississippi. NAEP says West Virginia was dead-last in eighth-graders rated "advanced."
  • June 20 a  West Virginia ranks with Bulgaria and Turkey in math scores by 15-year-olds, and sits near the bottom of U.S. states, according to the World Report Card prepared by an international education group.
  • June 20 a When we're talking future, a dumbed down workforce translates to jobs going, staying somewhere else.
  • June 20 a When local, county and state school leaders tell you how much better off your child is going to Clay (West Virginia ) schools, tell em some truth. They're telling a fib.
  • June 20 a Maybe we would have been better off as South Connecticut.
  • June 20 a How did a V-shaped hairline become known as a widow's peak? ANSWER: Widows in the 16th century wore a distinctive cloak while in mourning. The hood of this cloak formed a V-shaped peak on the forehead. Although the cloak did not survive, its name did, and by the 19th century the term "widow's peak" was used to describe this distinctive hairline.
  • June 20 a  Clayberry parents, so where does your child go to school? The school of your choice? That's about to change right under your nose. Might want to read the latest edition of the Communicator for the facts.
  • June 20 a Have you ever heard of thunderstones? What are they? ANSWER: Thunderstones may be small meteorites, stones swept up and then dropped by violent storms, or lumps of sand fused by lightning. The ancient Greeks considered them precious gifts from the sky, and they were reputed to have magic properties. Thunderstones, or objects believed to be thunderstones, were sometimes worn as talismans and were thought to protect wearers against lightning.
  • June 19 p Noon. The Town of Clay issued a Boil Water Order for the Morgan Car, Deer Trak Acres, and Guy Mullins Road areas. A switch at the tank burned out leaving all those folks without wa wa
  • June 19 p Be sure to boil your water first customers.
  • June 19 p Hiram Lewis was arrested last Wed on two felony charges. A preliminary  hearing o the case was held this morning. What normally takes about 10 minutes went well over an hour and included Lewis himself telling most of his side of the story.
  • June 19 p We say most of his story because Magistrate Jeff Boggs stopped the hearing during Hiram's testimony citing that it was within his right to do as much.
  • June 19 p Probable cause was found and the case continues over to Circuit Court land.
  • June 19 p Lewis' bond was reduced to $70,000.     With the CRJ web site down, not sure if Hiram made bond or returned to the slammer
  • June 19 p It's not often that a defendant gets on the stand himself. Happened this morning.
  • June 19 p Hiram was articulate, well spoken, and presented his side of the story which included: Bogart (victim) had been drinking that morning, the guy was out of control, even the Green Shirt said the outside door had been kicked in, after the shooting, Lewis tried to do first aid on the guy but was turned away, and he didn't see any reasons to be in the jailhouse since this is a clear case of self defense.
  • June 19 p Look for the case to go before the Summer Grand Jury in two weeks.
  • June 19 p  Lewis has been incarcerated for 6 days so far. He has lost his law license. His world is turned upside down.
  • June 19 p Wouldn't it be something if the grand jury sees the self defense plea as plausible and turns Hiram Lewis loose.
  • June 19 a Hiram Lewis is scheduled for a hearing this morning before Magistrate Jeff Boggs
  • June 19 a Jamie Summerlin is a war veteran (as is his wife) on a mission. as a way of bringing attention and raising funds for wounded warriors, Summerlin is running from coast to coast.
  • June 19 a  According to his website, sometime today he will be running from Corton to Ivydale.  His plan is to make it to Annapolis MD by the Fourth of July.
  • June 19 a  As he has made his way across the country , there have been various events to give the guy support and recognition.  Clayberry leadership made no plans to greet the  man.
  • June 19 a  With temps in the 90's today and after weeks of effort, if you live along Route 4, sure would be nice to have the American flags out in force. A nice wave would also be appreciated.
  • June 18 late a    Condolences extended to Crystal Hayes and family. During the tough times, remember , Kites rise against the wind not with it.
  • June 18 late a Something odd is happening. For months, Frontier Tele has provided substandard internet services in most sections of Clayberry. Horrible at best and often, none at all.
  • June 18 late a This morning, in the Maysel service area,  after 9am, the DSL is working close to advertised speeds. We're keeping our fingers crossed that what ever the repairs made, they corrrected a months old problem.
  • June 18 a Even before the rains came yesterday evening, many in the county went without internet service. This morning before 8:30am, DSL was sketchy at best.
  • June 18 a Happy birthday wishes extended to Aaron Shamblin, Peggy Cottrell, and Keith Wray
  • June 18 a Delegate Dave Walker's column, info on the BDA meeting, Little League All Star action and new Big Apple info is now available on the ADVISORY page
  • June 18 a For those that have read the latest Communicator, you know Larry Darryl and Darryl have spent almost $1,000,000 of your tax funds for their namesake building. Yes, they've got their names plastered on the front right beside the entrance way. When completed, the structure will hold Magistrates, 911 Center, and storage.
  • June 18 a The 911 Center will occupy a tiny portion of the building.
  • June 18 a The $1m is for bills already paid. There's a lot more coming as the outside work isn't done nor the parking area out back.
  • June 18 a During the last Commission meeting, bids were opened for equipping a portion of the 911 Center. Cost for the table, puters, telephones, installation and such? A mere $712,684.00.
  • June 18 a That's what it takes for such an operation, to do it right, and provide a quality service.
  • June 18 a There's a problem clickers. Even after taking money from accounts they weren't suppose to, there ain't enough money to cover the equipment.
  • June 18 a What ta do  What ta do
  • June 18 a Our guess is,  the CCC will now cobble together a mismatch of equipment.  Normally when you mix together parts from different genres, things don't work so well.
  • June 18 a Besides bankrupting the county coffers and denying or reducing much needed $$$ to existing operations, County Clay may end up with 20th century 911 services.
  • June 18 a Hind teat. Isn't that always the case in Clayberry?
  • June 18 a Also from last week, can't help but think back on alleged shooter Hiram Lewis who's now calling home, Central Regional Jail.
  • June 18 a  The talk of the county is what happened?   Are Badges correct that this is more than an act of self defense? How does the Castle doctrine apply when the shooter and victim both claim to be residents of the small house?
  • June 18 a The $100,000 surety bond isn't that much to come up with. About any house of any size would work.  This might be a case of tough love.
  • June 15 a  As of 9 am this morning, alleged shooter Hiram Lewis remains in Central Regional Jail awaiting a $100,000 bond. He's charged with Malicious wounding and wanton endangerment involving a firearm.
  • June 15 a Clayberry is alive with rumors on the Lewis shooting.
  • June 15 a Putting those to rest, from the Badge report penned by Green Shirt B E Young and paraphrased just a tad: On 6-13-2012 Young responded to a call in reference to 3150 Elkriver Rd for shots fired.... Units arrived to discover victim Steven Bogart lying on the porch bleeding from the leg and the accused Hiram Lewis inside the residence. Bogart stated he lived at the residence and possessions present as proof and stated he was entering the residence and Lewis pointed a hand gun at him and shot him. Lewis stated that he had shot Bogart in the leg after warning him to stay out of the residence and Bogart attempted to come anyway.
  • June 15 a  On various TV news outlets, Hiram told the world that he had "gotten" the property and was claiming the absolute right to defend himself and property under the Castle doctrine.
  • June 15 a In the latest edition of the Communicator we have mention of Mr Lewis' opening his latest endeavor, Paradise City, at that Elkhurst Rd location, on June 13th.
  • June 15 a Stuff down there was to include ATV course, guided river tours, Goat Shows, and the Paradise City Grill.   During our interview with Hiram, there was no mention of  shooting as part of the opening day activities. Our guess, opening of the new campground will be delayed.
  • June 15 a  Frontier Communications supplied telephone and internet service to this county. Telephones work fine but the DSL service sucks for dead air in most parts of the county. Emailers have suggested that Frontier does a horrible job in other areas of the state.
  • June 15 a With Frontier about the only game for much of the county, there is a rumor out there that SuddenLink cable company has plans to expand into downtown Clay over to Maysel and then back down Rt 4 to Clendenin.
  • June 15 a Suddenlink is already in the South of Hartland bridge neighborhoods and provides outstanding service.
  • June 15 a Tired of Frontier? Why not call or write SuddenLink and encourage them to extend their wires all over the county. From their web site, contact info is: Dave Bach, Senior Vice President; 4038 Teays Valley Rd Scott Depot WV 25560;  304 757-8001; or email atlanticregionvp@suddenlink.com
  • June 15 a In many instances, competition forces improvements. Lets give it a try clickers.
  • June 15 a Speaking of the Hartland Bridge now named the Jones Brothers Bridge....
  • June 15 a DOH officials promised construction of a new span to begin July 1st after awaiting the contract on June 5th.
  • June 15 a That announcement of the construction contract didn't come June 5th nor did it happen on the rescheduled June 12th date. The only thing the State Road web site says he, the award has been "deferred".
  • June 15 a It's not like contractors aren't chomping at the bit to build the thang. Five contractors including one W Va company submitted quotes.
  • June 15 a
  • June 14 a The Communicator made it to news stands across the region yesterday afternoon. 20 fact filled pages of information on the Great Nation of Clay. Like.....
  • June 14 a There's a new protective tool (PSO) available to citizen's when they are threatened or feel threatened.
  • June 14 a Like... Implementation of a Pentagon zoning policy that requires students to attend the nearest school instead of parents deciding which facility best fits the needs of their rug rats.
  • June 14 a About as soon as the thing got out the door scanner traffic went wild with notice of a guy shooting another down on Elkhurst Road in Procious.
  • June 14 a The shooter is attorney Hiram Lewis. Know that name? Hiram is the feller that has been in the news cycle recently as the front man for Ark Mountain Adventure Camp. That was last month. This month, in the latest edition of The Communicator, Lewis is opening , maybe was, opening Paradise City Camp down on Elkhurst Rd.
  • June 14 a We don't have the criminal complaint from yesterday's shooting but Hiram spent the night in the slammer and the other guy was taken to the hospital.
  • June 14 a We do have some interesting scoop. Jane Cook is a no nonsense kind of person. When she says it, she means it. Walk over to the ADVISORY page for Ms Cook's insight on what's wrong with Clayberry relating to law enforcement.
  • June 14 a County Commission met Wed morning. During that gathering, LArry Darryl and Darryl opened quotes on 911 Dispatch equipment. The bid for the table, monitors, tele and such came in at over $712,000.00. That's $700,000+ of your tax dollars to provide a service that is already being done for us over in Nicholas County.
  • June 14 a Linky and the gang have already spent over $900,000 on the new building and  dispatch center beside the Courthouse and the place ain't nearly done and the invoices aren't all in.
  • June 14 a See the latest Communicator for details on where the $$$ went.
  • June 14a Just like in starving areas around the world, Govt is more interested in building colossal structures bearing their names.
  • June 14 a  Can anybody think of better uses for that $1m+? Thought so.
  • June 12 late p   It's official. Instead of your kid going to the school of your choice, beginning this fall, school zone areas will be enforced. That means your rug rat will be educated at the nearest school instead of kids riding from all over the county to attend Clay Elem.
  • June 12 late p That, a new clamp down on using the school internet system, new true college level classes offered to high schoolers,   plus a whole bunch more in the next Communicator
  • June 12 late p Because the ace cub reporter was goofing off over the weekend and Monday, the Communicator will be printed Wed but we don't know if it will be done early enough to get it out the door before stores close.  Check this site Wed afternoon for the latest schedule.
  • June 12 p Happy Birthday wishes to Phil Carte, Glenna Triplett, Dave Reese, and  Keyota Jarvis
  • June 12 a Just back from a couple days in Morgantown and Pittsburgh, we'll try to get this site updated ASAP and The Communicator out the door Wednesday morning.
  • June 12 a With a rescheduled date, tonight the School Board meets in the Pentagon this evening. This time of year the Board rehires various extra duty contract job postings. Such is the case this evening beginning at 6pm
  • June 12 a County Commission meets the second and fourth Wed of each month. Want something to do? Attend a public meeting and see what the yahoooos are up to.
  • June 12  In between meetings, we'll be gleaning all the juicy stuff for Clay County's only locally owned and operated newspaper. Email over your listings before 5pm today for insertion.
  • June 10 a We're up on the Top Badge vs Jeff Boggs ruckus from last Monday. Details in the next Communicator.
  • June 10 a By the way, The Communicator will be delayed until sometime late on Wed so as the lardy ace cub reporter can make a trip to Morgantown for a day or so.
  • June 10 a No updates for a say or so. Sorry.
  • June 10 a On this date: 1752: Ben Franklin's kite and key experiment proved lightning is electricity;   1854: The United States Naval Academy graduated its first students; Born 1922: Judy Garland (actress & singer); Born 1933: F. Lee Bailey (attorney) ; Died 1988: Louis L'Amour (author); Died 2002: John Gotti (gangster); Died 2004: Ray Charles.
  • June 10 a What are the chances of getting struck by lightning? ANSWER: About 1 in 3 million. By comparison, you have a 1 in 5,800 chance of dying in a car accident and a 1 in 342,000 chance of dying in a plane crash.
  • June 10 a How do I keep rabbits from eating my flowers? ANSWER: Try one of the following methods: (1) Dust the flowers with sulfur. (2) Sprinkle them with red pepper. (3) Spray them with a mixture of 1 teaspoon Lysol and 1 gallon water. (4) Spray them with a mixture of 1 ounce tartar emetic, 3 ounces sugar, and 1 gallon water. (5) Get a cat or a dog!
  • June 8 p  Dana Martin Hanshaw, 62, of Big Otter, see OBITUARY page
  • June 8 a Sadly: Suicides are surging among America's troops, averaging nearly one a day this year - the fastest pace in the nation's decade of war. The 154 suicides for active-duty troops in the first 155 days of the year far outdistance the U.S. forces killed in action in Afghanistan - about 50 percent more - according to Pentagon statistics obtained by The Associated Press.
  • June 8  a First some meeting updates from this week.
  • June 8 a For at least two years, the CAEZ has said high school vocational students would erect interior walls and do electrical work over at the JG Bradley Campground at Dundon. Waiting Waiting Waiting....
  • June 8 a Announced during Tuesday's CAEZ meeting,  the building of interior walls will be bid out to pro's sometime this summer.
  • June 8 a Also on campground news... a much needed septic system for the place is still on hold. During Tuesday's Town Council meeting, Recorder Dwana Murphy told the body that the hold up is due to CAEZ Director Connie Lupardus NOT following up with DEP on a sewer permit variance. Murphy said Big Lup was told three weeks ago to call the DEP and that hasn't been done. Murphy," She's not listening to us." Mayor CLifton, " The next step is hers not ours."
  • June 8 a Early this week, the campground caretaker moved out. With the Lodge building locked tight, trash overflowing the dumpster, no activities planned and no campers, for all intents and purposes, Clayberry is without a much needed campground once again.
  • June 8 a The 911 Advisory Board tried to meet this week at the Courthouse. Not enough appointees to make a quorum. Copies of the group's bylaws were handed out to those in attendance. There is no mention of following state open meeting laws in the document nor is there any mention of  posting meeting agendas in advance of their public meetings.
  • June 8 a INFO:  The nails in my deck have rusted and spotted the wood. How can I remove the rust spots?  ANSWER    Scrub the area with a wire brush, then bleach any remaining stain with oxalic acid, which is available in paint stores. You would probably need to restrain the wood after this, but wait until the repaired area is thoroughly dry.
  • June 8 a INFO What is the difference between moths and butterflies? ANSWER  There are many differences, but the most obvious ones are that moths have feathered antennae, fly mostly at night, and rest with their wings open. Butterflies have knob-ended antennae, fly during the day, and rest with their wings closed.
  • June 8 a INFO   What is the difference between spring water and mineral water? ANSWER  Before 1994, "spring water" might mean anything from purified water, taken originally from the tap, or a fancy imported brand of "gourmet" bottled water from natural springs in Switzerland. The Food and Drug Administration put an end to the confusion by defining standards for bottled water and regulating how it can be labeled. Today, "spring water" indicates water that flows naturally to the surface from an underground spring or from a borehole into the source of that spring. "Mineral water" comes from protected underground sources, usually collected through a borehole. Many mineral water sites are geologically protected from contamination. You may also see "purified water," which means any water that has been distilled, deionized, or passed through membranes to remove particles in a process called reverse osmosis. "Distilled water," which some people recommend using in steam irons, is water that has been vaporized and then condensed to remove the minerals.

  • June 7 a Many counties in the state realize the worth of tourism dollars. To the South is the Hatfield McCoy ATV trail system. Several hundred miles in the system and more counties are adding trails each year. The plan is to connect many counties together for a week long fun ride for the entire family.
  • June 7 a Around the trail, new motels, stores, service companies and diners have gorwn.
  • June 7 a Tourism is not in the big picture here in Clayberry. Other than  the BDA providing some colorful signs and a couple web sites last year and some costly roadside banners three years ago, little else from government leadership.
  • June 7 a  Two editions back, The Communicator reported on the Ark Mountain Adventure Camp on Beechy Ridge opening. Interesting concept for campers and the back to nature types. If that operation grows, that could add new travelers to these parts.
  • June 7 a We have some new news.
  • June 7 a According to Hiram Lewis, a separate operation, a four wheeler trail will open in this county July 1st.

  • June 7 a It's real tough to provide web site updates when Frontier Tele DSL is next to nothing in the way of speed. Wed evening,  as late as  11pm, the snail speed was 292 down and 81 up. With such performance, adding pictures, ads, anything of any size, no can do.
  • June 5 late p  We got an update from Morgy Triplett on June School Board meetings. Meeting dates will be June 12th and 26th with some kind of public hearing convened on the 12th at 5:30pm. Why not keer em to death and show up in force for a public hearing / meeting.
  • June 5 p Best of birthday wishes to Terri Kerns, belated wishes to Janis Derby and low and behold, even the ace cub reporter is adding another 12 months on his tree ring.

  • June 5 p New Health Boardster Mitch DeBoard asked about the hiring of a one day per week sanitarian. Mitch thinks a part time position will not handle the needs of this county. When he asked to discuss the job specs and the coming hire and to do so in public, he got shut down. Bam.
  • June 5 p Even after saying he asked for the item to be added to the meeting agenda a week earlier, no go was the request for discussion. Bd Czar McLoughlin wasn't allowing the topic to even come up in public.
  • June 5  p How small is the Town of Clay? So small we don't even rate a prostitute.
  • June 5 p   Today just after noon, Ink Holcomb, one of our two locals known for strong imbibing, fell dead in front of the old Courthouse. Ink's real name was Jerry. Ink is, was,  seen almost daily carrying a plastic soda bottle as he walked up and down the sidewalks.
  • June 5 p some one asked him what was in the container a few months back. His reply, "You don't think it's pop do ya????"  It wasn't.

  • June 4 a Why is a community radio station important? From the email bag:   I'm from Mansfield, Ohio and I would like to thank the guy at the radio station that gave me the phone no# to the ems service there in Clay. My great uncle was taken to the hosp. and we drove 5 hours to get there and needed to find out where they took him.  The lady at the EMS service was a Big help also.  I called the sheriff office and NO ONE WAS THERE!   If it wasn't for this web site I would have never got a hold of anyone. Thank you!!   Thank you, Chris Hall

  • June 4 a Great opportunities this week to be  a part of local government and what they're doing to and for us.

  • June 4 a Over the last three weeks, hours were cut back. Last week the place was closed down.
  • June 4 a With no sign on the door, not sure if the place is out of business or what.

  • June 1 a A drizzly morning, something gardens, cisterns, and wells need big time.
  • June 1 a Tonight the Health Bd meets at 6pm to appoint a Director
  • June 1 a 9:30am BOLO for Badges, blue truck with paper tags seen at Flatwoods Chevron station, is involved in a bank robbery.
  • June 1 a  Other than the BOLO, the scanner has been quiet this morning. With kids gone last week and teachers all gone yesterday, not one lost school bus nor kid.
  • June 1 a There's been a rash of break ins during the last month. Pretty brazen stuff too. Thugs break into garages, out buildings and such while the owner sleeps just just a  few feet from the entry point. No arrests that we know of so far.
  • June 1 a  Harbor Freight has  a $14  motion detector on sale. Not sure how good it works but Radio Shack has a $100 unit that does real good. Knock on wood

  • June 1 a Also, don't forget dancing fun tonight at Big Otter Community Center and the challenging Elk River Pedal Paddle triathlon Saturday at noon.   For those not so keen on bluegrass and country music, try the WYAP June Jam Saturday at 7pm where blues, Americana, traditional tunes from Harold and Terri Allen will fill the stage and beyond.
