Feb 2013 Past News
Feb. 28 late p First an ooooops. The
Lady Panthers will be in State Tournament action next THURSDAY, March 7th
at 9pm when they take on Fairmont Senior. Go Lady Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feb. 28 late p For our second mystery
homepage pic, the correct answer is , the poor guy has but one ear
Feb. 28 late p Every once in a while,
the Pentagon posts their public meeting agenda three days in advance, as
required by law. The agenda
can be found here
Feb. 28 late p If you look at the last
item on the thang, sure looks like some of the teachers are already up
in arms over proposed cutbacks.
Feb. 28 late p After years of doling
out to about every request, cuts are going to be painful. If they're equal
and across the board, the pain won't cut quite as deep.
Feb. 28 late p So far, we haven't heard
one person complain about Levy promises made before the last election
Feb. 28 late p Wed's County Commission
meeting was very interesting.
Feb. 28 late p First some background.
Last week the Business Development Authority held a Special meeting with
Commissioner Mike Pierson in attendance. At that gathering everything was
a go for the BDA to take over the old CAEZ building owned by the Commission.
The well discussed plan was for the the BDA to house the Economic Development
Director , Amanda Moore , to set up her office and a conference room there
plus open (actually reopen) an arts and crafts / welcome center in the
same building
Feb. 28 late p The BDA has a $15,000+
grant that can be used for such. If the County Commission would give back
the swiped $20,000 grant from last year, there would be more than enough
$$$ to make the place look nice and be a good addition to Main Street.
Feb. 28 late p With a vote in hand,
sounded like a done deal
Feb. 28 late p Wed morning during the
CCC meeting, that all changed. The plan is now to turn the old block building
into a Day Reporting Center for non violent offenders.
Feb. 28 late p With our jail bills
averaging $35,000 or more each month, Larry Darryl and Darryl want to save
some money. Charleston Suits told them that grant dollars are available
to set up such centers.
Feb. 28 late p Such a facility would
already be in operation if it wasn't for the heavy weight of the out of
office Sheriff who refused to allow such to be set up. One person cost
the county a bunch.
Feb. 28 late p If free money is available
and if monthly jail bills could be reduced, sounds nice. Sounds like the
CCC is in tall gear to get this project underway
Feb. 28 late p Might be problems tho...
Feb. 28 late p Like... having
all those offenders right next door to the DHHR office where children come
and go on a regular basis.
Feb. 28 late p Like... The Day Reporting
Center would be located very close to Clay Elem School
Feb. 28 late p As for the BDA and their
need to have an office, conference room and Welcome Center, that could
go to the old State Road garage building in Two Run. They have the $$$
(if you include the swiped $20,000) to make the site very nice.
Feb. 28 late p At Two Run, there
would be plenty of parking, plenty of space to grow, better DSL speeds,
and visitors would be in the only part of town with a gas station and places
to eat.
Feb. 28 late p Of course, if the Welcome
Center goes to Two Run, couple with all the other items, that could
be the final straw to killing off the downtown part of the municipality.
Why go over there where nothing is going on?
Feb. 28 late p
Feb. 28 a There's a little snow on
the grass and more of the white stuff in the air coming our way. Daylight
continues well after 6pm and we know Spring is near. But, this blasted
winter continues to grip, maybe gripe, Clayberry.
Feb. 28 a Lots of folks responded to
the home page mystery picture. The correct answer is, the lady's left hand
has five fingers instead of four.
Feb. 28 a It was a huge win last night
when the Lady Panthers beat Tolsia 74 to 57 and secured a berth in State
Tournament action
Feb. 28 a Full update on yesterday's
CCC meeting, the coming day reporting center, what will happen to the old
CAEZ office building on Main Street, and more, later this afternoon.
Feb. 27 late p The Lady Panthers are
heading to State Tournament action next week after beating defending Region
4 champs, Tolsia, 74 to 57.
Feb. 27 late p It was a monster win
for the CHS girl's team.
Feb. 27 late p End of first quarter,
27 to 8 in our favor
Feb. 27 late p End of half, 38 to 30
still to our good.
Feb. 27 late p With 3 1/2 minutes left,
Clay 61 to Tolsia's 49.
Feb. 27 late p We started out front
and never looked back.
Feb. 27 late p Maybe the most excited
fan was sportscaster TG Griffith!
Feb. 27 late p If you'd like to watch
an encore version of tonight's big win, click
here.
Feb. 27 late p With a very solid win
under their belts, the Clay High Lady Panthers are the Region 4 Section
4 Champs and State Tournament bound next week.
Feb. 27 the big picture....
Feb. 27 a The U.S. government asked
Google for data on its users more than 31,000 times in 2012 alone, for
example. And the government rarely obtained a search warrant first, Google
recently
revealed; in nearly all cases, the company ended up turning over
at least some data.
Feb. 27 a Law enforcement
officials in Florida say thatit’s
a coincidence that the home of wheelchair-bound activist was raided
just hours after her name was linked to an effort to legalize medical marijuana
in the state.
Feb. 27 a Tonight the Lady Panthers
take on Tolsia in Regional Tournament action down at Fort Gay.
Feb. 27 a The radio station will be
broadcasting the match up beginning around 6:50 or so.
Feb. 27 a Go Lady Panthers
Feb. 26 p After keeping up well in
the first half, it didn't go so well for the CHS Panthers last night. Final
score, 70 to 51. That's it for sectional play and the season for the boys
team. For this season, there were 11 wins and 12 losses. Not too shabby
Feb. 26 p County Commission meets Wed
morning at 10 am. The posted agenda calls for the hiring of Garret Samples
Jr. to be the home confinement officer / process server.
Feb. 26 p Word on the street has it
that the Clifton's have sold the Foodland Store in Two Run.
Feb. 26 p According to Ryan, ain't
no way. Not happening.
Feb. 26 p There's no official word
on what or where major budget cuts will be made in the school system. Most
likely the slashing will be wide and not so deep.
Feb. 26 p Not sure if this is related
but one Big Otter Elem parent emailed over a notice sent out yesterday:
"ATTENTION PARENTS - Starting next week After School will only be offered
2 nights per week. On Tuesday's and Thursday's being on March 5th.
- The last day of After School will be on Thursday, March 28th. *If
you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school."
Feb. 16 p Last month it was the made
up, fiscal budget cliff. Now the world may end and all t he little kids
will be born with three eye when sequester cuts go into place compliments
the heads up their collective butts, Congress
Feb. 26 p So
what the heck is a sequester?
Feb. 26 p If you're wondering
who created such a beast, Reagan and Clinton would be the
correct answer.
Feb. 26 p Three old ladies were
sitting on a park bench having a quiet conversation when a flasher approached
from across the park. The flasher came up to the ladies, stood right
in front of them and opened his trench coat. Gertrude immediately
had a stroke. Then Maude also had a stroke. But Tillie, being older
and more feeble, couldn't reach that far.
Feb. 26 p Lets talk about
something important, the belly button....
Feb. 26 p The Belly Button Biodiversity
Project, run by scientists at North Carolina State University in Raleigh,
has been analyzing navel swabs from a host of volunteers, as New
Scientist explains. So far, they’ve found 1,400 distinct bacterial
strains, nearly half of which have never been seen before.
Feb. 26 p How about that? Can't
get that kind of info just anywhere. If you like having an online portal
on the bacteria we call Clayberry politics, help keep this site alive and
running strong. We're finishing up our annual beggin campaign. Send your
hard earned donation to: Delta; 2278 Main Street, Clay WV 25043
Feb. 26 p Thanks and in just two more
days we'll stop this aggravation for another 12 months.
Feb. 26 a Reba Neal Matheney, 92,
see OBITUARY page
Feb. 25 a First thanks to everyone
that have already contributed to our online begging campaign. Tho it won't
improve our typing or spelling, your contributions will help keep this
thang alive for another year. Look at this way, your donation is a burr
under the saddle of those backdoor leaning politicans in the county. Makes
you feel better already!
Feb. 25 a Send your gazillion dollar
bills to: Delta: 2278 Main Street; Clay WV 25043
Feb. 25 a Town Council meeting at 5pm
today
Feb. 25 a At noon, down at the Capitol,
in the rotunda, a Memorial Service and sales pitch for bullet proof vests
for all Badges in the State
Feb. 25 a Sectional Tournament game
at Sissonville tonight for the CHS Panthers. Go Panthers.
Feb. 25 a Lady Panthers head up a notch
Wed evening in their quest to State Tournament action
Feb. 25 a Some are saying, the Pentagon
debt has been around for a long time. That's correct, since the over building
of Big Odor Elem. 2008- $668,963; 2009- $557,936; 2010- $676,768; 2011-
$465,471 and in 2012- $558,362.
Feb. 25 a Back to the tournament
b ball part...
Feb. 25 a Each of those contests, to
get them on the radio, on the sectional level, it's up to the host school
what they charge a radio station. Poca HS charged the local non profit
station $100 for each sportscast. Volunteer broadcasters TG,
Dave and Rodney covered their own expenses . For those first two games,
Dave Pierson and family coughed up the demanded broadcast royalty fees.
Feb. 25 a Tonight the Panthers are
in sectional play. 101.7FM is covering that cost out of their pocket. Ditto
for the broadcasters.
Feb. 25 a Wed night is different. On
the regional level, the broadcast royalty of $125 is mandatory and paid
to the WVSSAC. It's also a two hour road trip to get to the school. It's
only fair to their broadcasters to cover some of the travel expense.
Feb. 25 a WYAP is trying to raise $200
for the Wed Lady Panther regional action. Those donations have to be in
hand by Wed mid day for the crew to get out of here on time. If you can
help with the $200, see Peter Triplett at the Courthouse by Wed noon or
so.
Feb. 23 10:45 pm In Clay
County: Bus 60 will not be running due to a slip in the road in the Swandale
area.
Feb. 23 a Here's a W Va tax problem.
In 1990, the business franchise and corporate income taxes made up almost
13 percent of our general revenue fund. Today, they are less than 5 percent.
Corporation are paying less taxes in West Virginia than they did two decades
ago.... More
Feb. 23 a With Republicrats masquerading
as Demorats under the Gold Dome, West Virginia’s effective corporate tax
rate fell 47 percent in the last 15 years. And
More.
Feb. 23 a While sheltering Corporate
America, our elected leaders work on pleasing the popular vote with
gun votes that sound
much better than reality.
Feb. 23 a Locally, Pentagon budget
cuts have those with jobs skeered big time. The 350 or so in the school
system will be looking down the barrel of cut backs big time. With
secret , off the books, never seen by the public, dating back 25 years,
short falls have to be eliminated. There is no doubt about it, Pentagon
cut backs will be felt and seen in the next few weeks.
Feb. 23 a This past week, the Big Robes
in Charleston ruled that School Boards do NOT have to fund local libraries.
Feb. 23 a In Clayberry, with only one
public library, the local Board provided much needed local "match" dollars.
They do,did so, while the County Commission refused to cough up ANY cash
to keep the small budgeted Library, afloat.
Feb. 23 a The way state library funding
works, Charleston money comes our way if and only if, local government
agencies provides funding one for one.
Feb. 23 a With local cuts upon us,
expect the Clay County Library to feel cuts the hardest.
Feb. 23 a Town Council is holding a
Special Meeting Monday Feb. 25th at 5pm
Feb. 22 p So what could it mean when
the school system is in deficit with the Charleston Suits knocking on the
door?
Feb. 22 p Certainly a reduction or
elimination of contract bus runs; summer school removed or cut back to
only those that failed classes, doubling up of bus runs, those extra day
trips and school club competitions, gone. And that's all for starters.
Feb. 22 p The plan already submitted
to the State folks, and posted below, may be just the tip of the iceberg.
All those extra duty contracts sucked up by school employees, Poof!
Feb. 22 p For those thinking, Gosh,
All those cuts..., I thought the Levy was paying for that stuff.
Feb. 22 p For those thinking that,
you're right. That's exactly what the Pentagon told us as they floated
each of Excess Levies.
Feb. 22 p The Lady Panthers didn't
look so hot Friday night. Clay 47, Nicholas 58
Feb. 22 p So what did Shida admit to
before getting sentenced to 46 months in the big house?
Feb. 22 p Excerpts: Jamie admitted
that in or about August or early September 2009, she altered and falsified
records and documents of Golden Heart. Golden Heart specialized in
providing in-home care services to the elderly and disabled under a contract
with Putnam Aging Inc., an authorized West Virginia Medicaid provider.
...
Feb. 22 p . Jamie admitted that
she directed office staff to review the personnel files of caregivers who
provided personal care services and directed staff members to place newly
created and altered documents into personnel files that contained missing
training documents. Jamie further admitted that she agreed with known
Golden Heart employees to falsify signatures on training documents to make
it appear as if caregivers had received training in compliance with the
personal care program guidelines. Jamie also directed that those
files be provided to Putnam Aging so that Putnam Aging would allow the
Medicaid program to be billed for personal care services provided by Golden
Heart.
Feb. 22 p Jamie also admitted
that in late December and early January 2010, she learned about a West
Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Medicaid Fraud Control
Unit (MFCU) investigation regarding transportation hours and mileage expenses
that had been claimed by Golden Heart under the Aged and Disabled Waiver
Program. Jamie admitted that she was aware that a known employee
of Golden Heart lacked a valid drivers’ license and she agreed to alter
existing records to make it appear as if another known employee with a
valid driver’s license had performed the services. The altered records
were then provided to a MFCU investigator. By the defendants actions,
she intended to prevent the MFCU from learning that Golden Heart had claimed
transportation and mileage expenses to which it was not entitled to be
reimbursed under Medicaid.
Feb. 22 p For those thinking
Shida Jamie will be locked up a couple months and then released on
home confinement, don't think so. Fed sentencing actually sticks.
Feb. 22 p For all our clickers afar,
where else are you going to get such information?
Feb. 22 p IF you think the Clayberry
site is worth keeping around for another year, it's time to help us keep
this thing alive, well and growing.
Feb. 22 p Send you donation to : Delta;
2278 Main Street; Clay WV 25043
Feb. 22 p Thanks in advance
Feb. 22 4:10 am With the county blanketed
in a sheet of ice, CLAY COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE OPERATING ON A TWO HOUR
DELAY TODAY
Feb. 22
Feb. 21 late p In their last regular
season game, the CHS Panthers went down to defeat to the Nicholas Grizzlies
69 to 61. With the season over, that makes for two winning seasons in a
row. Not too shabby!
Feb. 21 late p Friday night (7pm)
the Lady Panthers try for a second sectional tournament win, this time
trying to beat Nicholas. The game will be held at Poca High School in Putnam
County.
Feb. 21 late p Once again that
school is demanding our local non profit radio station pay a $100 broadcast
fee. During our Lady Panther's first sectional game Wed night, Dave Pierson
and family covered the fee and got our athletes on the air.
Feb. 21 late p How about it Clayberry,
can somebody else or group of people band together and cough up the $100?
If so, take your donation over to Peter Triplett in the County Clerk's
office. Volunteer sportscaster TG Griffith has to leave Clay by 4pm to
make the Poca destination. Go Lady Panthers!!
Feb. 21 late p At one time Shida Jamie
was an active civic minded Clayonain. She was involved in many local organizations
and the center of attention. She's there again
Feb. 21 late p Today in Federal Court,
the once adored 63 year old Jamie was sentenced to 46 months in prison
for deceiving and stealing from the people that thought so much of her.
Feb. 21 late p It's been several weeks
since we mentioned our last wittle tubby Sheriff. We didn't know what we'd
right about since his departure from office. Here's something...
Feb. 21 late p Adam Nottingham
died after a high speed chase with Blue Lights on his tail. He drowned
in Gauley River with Badges watching from the bank.
Feb. 21 late p A lawsuit was filed
on the last day the statute of limitations allowed last year.
Feb. 21 late p Since the filing which
named that past Sheriff both in his official capacity and individually
was filed, people have wondered, what's taking so long?
Feb. 21 late p Update: the background
leg work of sorting out witnesses and taking depositions etc, is now underway
in Clay.
Feb. 21 late p The West Virginia Sheriff's
Assoc is hosting a memorial service in the Capitol rotunda Monday at high
noon. The service is to commemorate fallen Troopers Marshall Bailey &
Eric Workman and seek legislation / funding for bullet proof vest for all
officers.. The notice mentions awards being presented to Clay County
Black Shirts Robert Belt, Chris Legg, and Chris Davis, Roane County Badge
John Westfall, plus tow truck driver Frank Massey.
Feb. 21 late p At 3pm today, long after
the announcement was made public, no one had told Mr Massey of the ceremony
nor the W Va Citizen's Award being presented to him on Monday.
Feb. 21 late p Feb. is begging month
for this Clayberry web site and Communicator newspaper. We're at it right
now.
Feb. 21 late p We know things are real
tight and you've got to stretch every nickel . To keep this duct taped
together operation providing up to the minute, right on the mark, news
and views, it's going to take $$$.
Feb. 21 late p Every year there is
something new we need, or something broke that needed replaced. Computers,
software, cameras, power bills, reading hate mail, and paying the phone
bill to hear callers start off with: You dirty rotten ##!!! Son &&^^%%%,,,,
it all takes money and time.
Feb. 21 late Snail mail those
hard earned dollars to: Delta; 2278 Main Street; Clay WV 25043
Feb. 20 late p Delcie
Keen, 89, see OBITUARY page
Feb. 20 late p The CHS Lady Panthers
were victorious tonight over Sissonville, 53 to 44.
Feb. 20 late p With that sectional
tournament win, they're one step closer to state tournament action. To
get there and good court placement, the Lady Panthers need a win Friday
evening. Not sure who their opponent will be (either Nicholas or Poca)
but everybody, all together now, Go Lady Panthers.
Feb. 20 p After a very strong regular
session, tonight, the Lady Panthers take on Sissonville in Sectional Tournament
play down at Poca High School. The game begins are 6pm sharp. If they win
tonight, their next round comes Friday evening also at Poca High
Feb. 20 p Non profit 101.7 FM wants
to air the tournament play. Poca High is charging the non profit $100 to
air the match up. If you can donate to the cause of getting our athletes
on the air, call the station 304 587 8353 or see Peter Triplett at the
Courthouse right away. Our broadcasters plan to leave Clay around 3pm this
afternoon.
Feb. 20 p Keep in mind, our volunteer
sportscasters TG Griffith and Dave Woods (tonight), are making the trip
on their own dime and as a service to the county.
Feb. 20 p True the broadcast
signal is pretty crappy at times, it's better than nothing.
Feb. 20 p For those afar that want
to listen to the game, walk over to wyap, com web site and press the listen
online buttons.
Feb. 20 p Go Lady Panthers
Feb. 20 p The lead story
in this week's Communicator covers the proposed plan by the State Suits
to take over the Clayberry school system. The chief issue for the occupation
is a $$$ deficit according to Superintendent Kenneth Tanner.
Feb. 20 p Last month our Pentagon sent
to the state a work out plan which was approved by the State School Board.
Feb. 20 p Those approved reductions
for this year include: Elimination of two contract bus runs; reduction
of summer school salaries and benefits ($35,000); replacing two part time
cooks with one full time cook ($33,000); and discontinuing "local share"
salary supplements and benefits ($44,120.00); reductions in out of state
travel and extra curricular trips ($14,000); cut backs on summer
custodian contracts ($7000); discontinuing RESA contracts, a RESA
technician ($9000); reduce salary and benefits for activity buses by 20%
($20,000); eliminate a secretary position ($18,150); and, whatever this
means, interfund transfer reduction from CEO participation ($75,000)
Feb. 20 p For the 2013 - 2014 budget
year which begins in July, additional cuts will be felt in summer bus maintenance,
elimination of a H E White bus route, reduction in overtime for student
supervision; elimination of a part time cook at H E White; and the elimination
of a half time technical position at Lizemores Elem
Feb. 20 p Some are already scratching
their heads. Many of those cutbacks, during the run up to the Levy vote,
taxpayers were told, those expenses would be paid for by the Excess Levy
if approved.
Feb. 20 p One big Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Feb. 20 a This morning, snow, big fluffy
snow flakes, blowing big time. Not Spring yet clickers
Feb. 20a The Communicator made it out
the door Tuesday afternoon. 20 pages covering all the stuff that makes
this county so very special. School Super K Tanner is the interviewee
in our above the fold ,lead story. Dandy reading.
Feb. 20 a The exact deficit amount
for the Pentagon is $558,362.00
Feb. 20 a During that KT interview,
the big boy said he would provide the public with the plan of attack for
getting rid of the deficit and have that plan available for the Feb18th
local School Board meeting. He didn't
Feb. 20 a Instead Mr Tanner said he
wanted his staff and others see the info before it gets out to the public
Feb. 20 a Odd.... the complete
reduction plan and who gets cut from work has been listed on the State
Board of Education site since Feb. 13th,
Feb. =20 a With the approved
plan in place for THIS year, seems a little untimely.
Feb. 20 a We'll post the plan sometime
around noon today
Feb. 20 a Timely information. That's
what the Communicator and this web site have provided for years.
Feb. 20 a Is it worth keeping? We're
in the middle of our annual online begging campaign. If you can help keep
secrecy at bay, send you gazillions to: Delta; 2278 Main Street; Clay WV
25043
Thanks
Feb. 18 p Louise Madeline
Elliott Moore, 90, of Bentree, see OBITUARY page
Feb. 18 p It started out this morning
around 12 degrees. By 2pm, a lovely 53 degrees in the Nation of Clay. Blue
Skies too!
Feb. 18 p School Board meets
Monday evening at 6pm down at H E White Elem. Between lock downs and school
take over threats, should make for a good public meeting
Feb. 18 p If you're wondering what
we're typing for Tuesday's Communicator... Our lead story is the interview
with Kenneth Tanner on the $500,000+ budget deficit and the chance that
the State School Board will come in, fire Tanner and others, and then take
over the $20 million per year operation.
Feb. 18 p Frontier Tele DSl service
took another dump this morning severing customers from the rest of the
world.
Feb. 18 p No updates until we get the
county's newspaper out the door Tuesday afternoon around 4pm
Feb. 17 a 14 degrees this morning.
With the wind chill factor, man oh man, it's chilly. Come on Spring!
Feb. 17 a Around 9am this morning,
Frontier DSL went down for parts of this county. Hope they're doing an
upgrade.
Feb. 17 a Three weeks ago the
aging Olympus camera responsible for some great snapshots fell apart.
Little pieces scattered in the snow as the camera body imploded in 9 degree
use.
Feb. 17 a The eBay purchased replacement
is now up and snapping away. We have to figure out a way to pay for it
as well as upgrading one puter. software like Word 2013 and who knows,
we may even go hog wild and buy some new signs for the outside of the office
in beautiful Two Run.
Feb. 17 a True Delta Communication,
the owners of this site and Communicator newspaper, is a for profit outfit,
that profit end of the operation is non existent. Not sure about 2012 yet
but in 2011, each of the three owners pocketed right at $1000 for a full
year's worth of effort. Tight budgets and starvation wages are fine until
something major needs replaced.
Feb. 17 a What we're getting at is,
it's time for the annual online begging campaign.
Feb. 17 a If you like having an online
portal where info on the Great Nation of Clay is available most of the
time, open your pockets and help keep it up and running. Our mailing address
is, Delta; 2278 Main Street; Clay WV 25043
Feb. 17 a We're going to keep begging
for about a week or so.
Feb. 17 a As for the word on
Clayberry schools and the possibility that the State will take em over
and operate... The Pentagon meets Monday evening at 6pm down at H E White
Elem. For answers, that's the place to be. There's no mention of closure
on
the agenda but for once, it was posted ahead of time.
Feb. 17 a Calhoun
County was also mentioned on the list of take over maybes. With their
larger budget deficit, our neighbor county will most likely get the boot
before Clay and our $500,000+ shortfall.
Feb. 17 a How did we get so in debt?
After years of hiding the overruns from the big Odor Elem school building
project plus smaller deficits from 20 years ago, the State auditors forced
the Pentagon to put the debt on the books that the public sees.
Feb. 17 Lets see now, who was in charge
of that last building project?
Feb. 17 a Communicator comes out Tuesday
late in the afternoon. Deadline for submissions is Monday at 5pm. Have
an opinion on school take overs?, maybe the Green Shirts coming in and
shutting down the schools?, or maybe how to grow much needed river access
points without destroying what we already got, email those today.
Feb. 17 a Aspire to inspire before
you expire.
Feb. 17 a My wife and I had words,
but I didn't get to use mine.
Feb. 17 a Frustration is trying to
find your glasses without your glasses.
Feb. 16 late p David H.
Brown, nicknamed “Hungry Jack”, age 73, see OBITUARY page
Feb. 16 late p At 9pm Saturday, emergency
responders are working an accident on I-79. How slick is it tonight? One
responder commented: It's getting pretty greasy out here.
Feb. 16 late p It's been quite
a week.
Feb. 16 late p Charleston newspapers
reported the possible take over of Clay County Schools by the state after
a little known, long time, $500,000 debt was placed on the Pentagon's books.
When did the local Superintendent know the state was considering taking
over our $20 million dollar budget? KT said he didn't know until the story
broke in the Gazette.
FEb 16 late p We thought the notice
on a school take over would be the top talked about coffee house item.
We were wrong.
Feb. 16 late p Instead, what seems
to ire the local group is planting a new boat access ramp right in the
middle of the county's only roadside picnic spot, Spread Park. It's our
understanding, calls are already being placed to Larry, Darryl, and Darryl.
Feb. 16 late p Russia is clening
up after a meteor blast injuried over 1000 people. As the sky lit up, the
citizenery thought it was the first
thrust of a new American weapon.
Feb. 16 late p On top of that came
more
fireballs in Cuba and California.
Feb. 16 late p While we're struggling
to figure out IRS returns and payouts, even though Facebook (FB) reported
$1.1 billion in pre-tax profits from U.S. operations in 2012, it will probably
pay zero
federal and state taxes—and even receive a federal tax refund of about
$429 million—according to a Feb. 14 statement from Citizens for Tax Justice
Feb. 16 late p Paid no taxes and getting
a refund. Something is real wrong Washington.
Feb 15 a It's Never mind the rain and
chance of snow, we're thinking Spring, it's Friday and a three day weekend
for many. Great.
Feb 15 a Tonight the Lady Panthers
head over to Summersville for a big match up with the Lady Grizzlies. WYAP
plans to air the game beginning at 7pm. Go Lady Panthers!
Feb 16 a Here's a quote from
yesterday's Charleston Gazette school take over article penned by Mackenzie
Mays: As of June, Preston County was $2.4 million in the red, while Clay
and Calhoun counties had deficits of more than half a million.
Feb 16 a Gulp
Feb 16 a The State folks don't base
take over efforts on just one factor. Usually there's multiple reasons
for local leaders to be tossed from power and office. Often one of those
reasons is pee poor test scores.
Feb 16 a While the Clayberry Pentagon
is not on the short list of schools already taken over and ready to be
consumed by state leadership, we're on the list none the less.
Feb 16 a When the big folks come
in, out goes local school system leadership like the Superintendent, Assts.
Associates, and department directors. Most everyone s replaced by hired
team players of their choosing. With full control over the local operation,
state dictators often force school consolidation like Lizemore and HE White
for instance, chance principals, and more.
Feb 16 a The call is for a better education
for the little brats. In many cases, under state control, there is NO improvement
in test scores.
Feb 16 a Let us be the first to say,
maybe great improvement is not possible. Not sure of other counties but
for the Great Nation of Clay, after generations of drug abuse by parents
and grandparents and the numerous conditions brought on by drugged out
pregnant Moms, it may take a couple decades of drug free reproduction to
improve the brain pool.
Feb 16 a There , it's out there, everyone
start throwing rocks at the truth.
Feb. 14 a The best of Valentine's Day
wishes to you and yours. Even one wittle box of chocolates will make a
big difference in the days to come. Six months from now, during some battle
over raising the seat or other important skirmish like leaving your dirty
socks on the carpet, that one piece of chocolate can be a good bargaining
chip.
Feb. 14 a The Pentagon
works hard to pass an Excess School Levy every 6 years. Leading up to each
election cycle, they tout , if passed, everything will be wonderful and
those little darlings will benefit in a gazillion ways. Clayberry has passed
the Excess Levy three times.
Feb. 14 a In spite of the promises,
students bring home fundraiser forms almost daily and test scores and performance
remains near dead last in every poll. Last night, the Governor said as
much.
Feb. 14 a In this morning's Gazette
came word that the State School Board is making plans to take over county
school systems unable to keep their budget in order. Not on the short list
for immediate closure, but on the little longer list, Yelp, Clayberry Schools
are on that list, in the cross hairs.
Feb. 14 a Interesting to note, when
the State folks take over local school systems, test scores rarely go up
nor does the education platform improve.
Feb. 13 late late p The Clay High Panthers
beat So Harrison tonight 38 to 33. With the big win, they play again Saturday
in the Night of Champions. We don't have a time yet for that match up.
Check back later please.
Feb. 13 p This is confusing but...
Feb. 13 p the CHS Panthers play So
Harrision tonight. If they win tonight, the Panthers will play Ritchie
County in Parkersburg on Saturday
Feb. 13 p If the Panthers lose tonight,
our team will play St Marys at CHS Friday night with a 7:30pm start time
for the varsity team.
Feb. 13 p A couple notes
from this morning's County Commission meeting.
Feb. 13 p Meltone Construction
was awarded a $97,900 contract to finish some of the floors and ceilings
in the new Judicial Annex building beside the Courthouse. That's another
$100,000 on top of the million or so already spent on the place.
Feb. 13 p Commission Prez Mike Pierson
told the assembled, it would take another half million or so to complete
the place.
Feb. 13 p We're in the land of little
where dollars are in short supply and budgets are expected to be cut back.
True some of the money is free grant money, but a bunch of it ain't. While
people go without, the elected folks spent everything on an old building
that should have been torn down a long time ago.
Feb. 13 p Also from the morning meeting,
our Economic Development Director told Larry Darryl and Darryl, a new boat
access ramp will be built at Spread Park. The ramp will be built right
in the middle of the park right beside the big sycamore tree which
has stood there for 100 + years. When completed, the ramp will split the
only picnic area in the county right down the middle.
Feb. 13 a County Commission meets this
morning at 10 am
Feb. 13 a Across the nation, property
values have gone down a bunch during the current depression. Have your
taxes gone down? Have you asked to have them reduced?
Feb. 13 a Today is the last chance
for you to protest property taxes during the 2013 Board of Review by the
County Commission. Come in today to seek a reduction
Feb. 13 p If you were planning to attend
tonight's Lady Panther B Ball game over in Summersville, change your plans.
That game has been rescheduled to Friday night at 7pm
Feb. 13 a Weatherwise, rain today followed
by an inch or so of snow this evening and near freezing temps. After midnight,
rain on top of the white stuff. Be careful out there today.
Feb. 13 a Internet and tele service
were the pits Monday and Tuesday. Actually everything started to crap out
early Sunday morning. By yesterday afternoon, Frontier Tele had the issues
worked out and repaired. For now, the Nation of Clay is back in business.
Feb. 13 a The high school lock
down three weeks ago was brought on by a student seeking attention. He
got it
Feb. 13 a Last week's lock down rumored
to be drug cartel related. Turns out , all that fuss, so the Green Shirts
could more easily nab one transient suspected of child abuse
Feb. 13 a And then, on the school hazing
resulting in injury, instead of a bunch of team players suspended and maybe
even a coach reprimand .... one kid is out of school and little else.
Feb. 13 a In each case, parents went
wild. In each case, the school system failed to provide parents / guardians
with reassuring information in a timely manner.
Feb. 13 a We're starting our
Feb. online begging campaign. If you like having a sometimes timely source
of news and views on Clayberry, it's time support this web portal. Send
your millions to Delta; 2278 Main Street, Clay WV 25043
Feb. 13 a What do we do with those
millions? Two weeks ago the "good" camera broke. On Friday we purchased
a replacement. Now we've got to figure out a way to pay for it. Also, there's
a real need to update office computers, software updates like moving to
Word 2013, spyware, buy beer, and other important thanks.
Feb. 13 a If you can help, great and
thanks in advance.
Feb. 12 a Last night the Panthers and
Lady Panthers achieved big wins over top rated opponents.
Feb. 12 a Sometime late Monday afternoon
telephone service came back to Clayberry. When the internet came back on,
slow was the buzz word. Whenever you see that Frontier pull behind optic
splicer trailer in Clay, you know something is real bad. It was parked
on Main Street in front of the Frontier switch station yesterday
Feb. 12 a Interested in
bettering yourself, there's changes in the GED program. See ADVISORY page
Feb. 12 a How about bettering training
opportunities for adult education classes? Walk over to the ADVISORY
page and fill out the online needs survey
Feb. 12 a When parents don't
get satisfaction with School officials, there's other avenues including,
the criminal court system and a civil lawsuit.
Feb. 11 p Frontier Tele Co has been
having problems most of today. Internet speeds were next to nothing when
it was working. As of 3pm, no connectivity. Ditto for landline telephone
connections. Other than being able to dial in your own prefix number, nothing.
Feb. 11 p Maybe cause of the gusty
winds coming thru the county, but for now, the Great Nation of Clay is
severed from the rest of the world.
Feb. 11 a Tonight the Lady Panthers
will be playing one of their last home games at Clay High. The contest
begins at 7pm. They've had a good year so far. Come out and support the
Lady Panthers tonight
Feb. 11 a Each year property owners
have a chance to request their property taxes be reduced. Called a Board
of Review, the County Commission looks at each request brought to em during
the month of Feb. One day is set aside for those with coal and other mineral
deposits and seeking reduced taxes. Today is Minerals Day in County Commission
land.
Feb. 11 a Larry Darryl and Darryl have
absolute power to reduce or keep current coal assessments. In years past,
the CCC has bent over backwards to reduce big coal taxes while socking
it to small land owner values.
Feb. 11 a During recent Commission
meetings, the folks up front have warned of dwindling coal tax revenues
which will result in fewer $$$ coming into the county. Cutting the taxes
on big coal and then wondering why fewer dollars come into the county,
one big Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Feb. 11 a People ask what's The Communicator
going to write about now that the always controversial old Sheriff is gone.
Here comes a response. Lets see now, there's been a kid at the high school
who made online threats of a Sandy Hook style coming. Last week the
entire school system was shut down while Green Shirts went after a parent
of a recently enrolled Clay Elem school student. And now.....
Feb. 11 a Locker rooms have always
had a code: What goes on in the locker room stays in the locker room.
Horseplay is common in a locker room. It's part of the game, the camaraderie.
Sometimes that horseplay goes over the line.
Feb. 11 a Over at Clay High, last Tuesday
during the VP and Varsity games, horseplay turned into at the very least,
hazing.
Feb. 11 a In the locker room
area, members of the team, turned out the lights, blocked the door, held
a player against his will, and then acted out "cornholing" on at least
one lad. Clothes were on thus no penetration, but none the less,
the teenagers actions were beyond the line.
Feb. 11 a Friday evening there there
was another home court ballgame. Between the two contests, once again in
the locker room area, an even more serious act occurred. Friday night,
the "cornholer" came over to the "cornholee" and cold cocked the boy
knocking him out. Blood was splattered on the ceramic tile walls.
Feb. 11 a At the hospital, four (stitches)
to the head were required.. a bruised talbone was also treated.
Feb. 11 a Hazing has always been against
policy. Injuries sustained during hazing makes for an even more serious
offense. Parents and family members are demanding something be done about
the lack of supervision during a school sponsored activity.
Feb. 11 a There is little doubt
the student athletes involved must be disciplined. Most likely the boys
will receive a suspension and ALC time.
Feb. 11 a The bigger issue is, will
those in charge be disciplined. Those in charge are the head Basketball
Coach and Athletic Director. If the Tuesday incident was swept under the
rug or even not taken seriously, punishment of those in charge could be
more severe.
Feb. 11 a Parents and grand parents
of the injured student are demanding action and rightly so. This close
to the end of the season, if the Coach would be suspended, the affect on
the season could be grave. Those parents are also concerned about
Clayberry "politics".

Feb. 9 a Fellers, we all know
you got to do something for the sweetie for Valentine's Day. Tonight there's
a Valentine's Dance complete with music, munchies and no cover charge.
Here's your chance to make some brownie points and on the cheap too.
Feb. 9 a Special note: the location
of Sunday's Benefit dinner is Clay High. We had it wrong.
Feb. 9 a Check out the EVENTS page
for all the happenings in beautiful Clayberry
Feb. 8 later p From TV-13 News
via the web: A man was taken into police custody on Friday night after
three schools in Clay County implemented lockdowns for safety reasons.
State Police confirmed that Derrick Glasser,39, from Florida was arrested.
He had recently moved to West Virginia, according to troopers. Troopers
said that Glasser is being charged with four counts of felony sex abuse.
There were no injuries during in the apprehension, according to police.
Troopers said that information had led them to believe Glasser would be
a threat to officers and to the public.
Feb. 8 late Walk over to the ADVSIORY
page for a formal statement on today's school lock down from Superintendent
Kenneth Tanner.
Feb. 8 late p Did you read it? OK.
Now re read it.
Feb. 8 late p Based on the number of
Green Shirt mobiles in the county today, at least one white van loaded
with what looked like a swat team, the number of plain clothes at the old
courthouse this afternoon, and the reports of the Swat Team around the
Ark Mountain compound on Beechy, Clayberry may have just seen the largest
Badge sweep in recent history.
Feb. 8 late p Neighbors reported the
Swat team in that area. In Tanner's statement , he referenced the Badge
operation in this county. KT also brings up that the center of their attention
was isolating a student or students from the Green Shirt operation most
likely the one over at Ark Mountain.
Feb. 8 late p Now for the
speculation.... Putting two and three together..... Sure sounds like the
Feds were after someone , someones, residing at Ark Mountain with Badges
making sure their kid (s) were isolated.
Feb. 8 late p We checked the CRJ web
site at 10 pm and there were no new overnight guests. That could mean,
the guy is in Fed custody or in some confidential confinement area or still
being interroagated. It just seems unlikely that after all that manpower
today, Badges wouldn't come up with some kind of charge (even trumped up
charges) to hold him.
FEb 8 late p Yes we've heard the reports
of some kind of Mexican Drug cartel involvement but so far, nothing on
paper. If there's any of that, whether the guy is trying to get away from
some Mexican drug group or hide from his own group, there's the reason
for the Feds involvement.
Feb. 8 late p Fortunately, if there
are any court documents, search warrants, arrest warrants, those will be
public record and offer a glimpse into what is alleged to have happened.
Feb. 8 late p For now, we made thru
what ever happened without injuries and that's a good thing.
Feb. 8 late p By the way, those stories
of a local bank being robbed today, Badges with guns on every street corner,
and the one about a student with a gun locked in a CHS closet, all BS and
all the result of telephone and social media sites gone wild
-
Feb. 8 p Clay County Schools have been
on a lock down off and on since around 9am this morning.
FEb 8 p At 1:30pm Superintendent Kenneth
Tanner said " There is no threat to the school"
Feb. 8 p Little more came from
the guy
Feb. 8 p With Badges around the
county at high alert, over at Clay Elem, with three Green Shirts outside
the front door, parents were not allowed to pick up their kids this afternoon.
Feb. 8 p When a parent or guardian
came to the front door at Clay Elem, the Badge said, there are no early
outs today. Several of those parents gathered across the street and waited
for something to change. Don't think it did. They didn't look too
happy standing out in the dampness without an explanation.
Feb. 8 p Rumors are running left and
right. Something about a mexican threat.
Feb. 8 p For those that listen to the
scanner, the bad guy Black Shirt Rider took to the slammer was sticky
finger David Hanshaw who had nothing to do with the lock down today.
Feb. 8 p TV-13 was at Clay Elem interviewing
Tanner mid afternoon today. Maybe she was able to pull loose more details
than this site did.
Feb. 8 p Lets see now, he said:
no threat to the school.. Those artfully done words sure open the door
to lots of others possibilities. Threats to a student? Teacher? Bus? Tanner?
Law enforcement?
Feb. 8 p
Feb. 8 This is serious
clickers, late breaking news: A public school teacher was arrested
today at John F. Kennedy International airport as he attempted to board
a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, a slide-rule
and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Eric
Holder said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement.
He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying
weapons of math instruction.
'Al-Gebra is
a problem for us', the Attorney General said. 'They derive solutions
by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute
values.' They use secret code names like "X" and "Y" and refer to themselves
as "unknowns" but we have determined that they belong to a common denominator
of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek
philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."
Feb. 7 a The Communicator will
be at news stands this morning. 20 pages of great info including our lead

Feb. 5 p If you're looking for the
Communicator this afternoon, you're going to have to wait another 24 hours
or so. With all the bad weather predicamentated for last night and this
morning, we got skeered and held off the publication. Tonight will be the
all nighter to get the thing out the door around 4pm Wed
Feb. 5 p For our online brainiacs.
Here's a tough one: On the The Andy Griffith TV Show, who was Barney's
landlord of his upstairs apartment. What was her name?
Feb. 5 p By the way, he paid $6 a week
for the accomodations where no cooking, pets, guests, nor any lightbulbs
over 40 watts were allowed.
Feb. 5 p No updates until we
get the rascal out the door.
Feb. 4 Noon There's a change in tonight's

Feb. 4 8 am For that matter,
we can't even find the school lunch menu on the school website.
Feb. 4 8am Saturday night the old Coulter
house on Guy Mullins Road burned to the ground after a loud KaBoom. Lets
see now, the place was empty, no one lived there, it was in a secluded
location, the boom happened late at night.... Wonder what happened?
Feb. 4 8 am Clayberry lost another
business last week. There's been a little car wash right beside the Ivydale
bridge for decades. Owner Jerry Cunningham says he shut it down due to
environmental regs near the end of Jan..
Feb. 4 8am Submission deadline for
Tuesday's Communicator is today at 5pm. Note: Depending on the weather

Feb. 1 a We've had a week of extremes.
At mid week, temps were touching 70 degrees. Factoring in the wind chill
, today we're looking at 5 degrees with about an inch of new snow on the
ground.
Feb. 1 a Insight in what
makes Clayberry so special...
Feb. 1 a Mid Summer, a couple years
ago, CAEZ Director Connie Lupardus came to a Town Council meeting with
news that a $6000 grant was available for Town use. She said it had to
be used within a couple months, by mid Sept. The Town held public hearings
where taxpayers suggested that funds be used for better looking signs,
hanging flower pots, park benches and such.
Feb. 1 a Town Councilperson Josh Shamblin
was named the pivot man for keeping the Council informed on grant progress.
During the Jan 29th Council meeting, Shamblin told the assembled that he
hadn't heard one thing on the grant, spending the loot, nothing. Others
at the public meeting exposed that funds had already been expended with
proceeds being used on County Commission property.
Feb. 1 a A phone call to Big
Lup revealed that most of the grant dollars have indeed been spent, the
Mayor and others have attended meetings on the usage, five park style benches
have been ordered from a local wood worker; and earlier on Jan 29th,the
hanging flower pots were ordered from an out of county vendor by CAEZ Director
Lupardus.
Feb. 1 a Other than not keeping Josh
Shamblin in the loop, sounds pretty good right?
Feb. 1 a Well, maybe not. Turns out
, those park benches will be placed on a new war memorial on county property
instead of along sidewalks. and some of the $$$ are committed to repairing
the County owned fountain on Courthouse square.
Feb. 1 a Based on the telephone call
and Council conversations before and after, sounds like Lupardus and Eco
Dev Director Amanda Moore decided where the free money is going without
Town Council knowledge. For sure, Council never voted a decision during
a public meeting.
Feb. 1 On another matter, during the
most recent Business Development Authority (BDA) meeting, there was absolutely
no mention of Mountaineer Liquidating Co, housed in the BDA owned
building in Two Run, closing down; nor was their any mention of what happens
to the one year freebee lease with Mountaineer Liquidating.
Feb. 1 a Monday evening, the BDA meets
again. State law requires that public agency to post their meeting agenda
three business days in advance of the gathering. As of yesterday afternoon,
no agenda is planted on the front of the Courthouse. On the
BDA website, on the agenda page, nope, nothing, does not exist.
Feb. 1 a Of course, it was the BDA
that allowed the County Commission to swipe $20,000 in economic development
grant funds and mis-direct them to Linky's the election year folly, the
911 dispatch center.
Feb. 1 a We're still looking for a
local agency that operates above board, follows the law, makes decisions
in public, and keeps track of their funds. If anybody
knows of a such an agency, please let us know
Feb. 1 5:50am CLAY
COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED TODAY
Feb. 1 5:50am Not sure about tonight's

Feb. 1 5:50 am For most of ya, go back

Feb. 1 6am 34 school systems
