December 2010

  • Dec 31 a 52 cards in a deck and 365 spots on the deck.
  • Dec 31 a Hard to imagine that another year and the decade is ready for the history books but that's the case for 2010
  • Dec 31 a Tonight the radio station celebrates New Year's Eve with a dance at the Senior Center in Two Run. Don't sit at home all mopey lipped. Come out and dance in the new year. Fun starts at 8pm
  • Dec 31 a New York City ain't got nothing on the Clayberry Ball, well lit with beautiful Waterford plastic. The Ball drops at midnight.
  • Dec 31 a For those of the drinking persuasion, Pat's Sports Bar gets into the party mood at 10pm. Good Karaoke and food galore.
  • Dec 30 p  We can't help ourselves when there is snow on a parking lot. We got to spin those tires. Goose it a little and slide sideways. Any parking lot where there is an open space and slushy snow, yelp, hit the throttle and have some fun.
  • Dec 30 p  The sun is out today. A first in several days. With temps in the 40's, the snow is melting away. One guy was on a bicycle today!
  • Dec 30 p The latest edition of Clay County's only locally owned and operated newspaper, the Communicator, lends coverage to the Health Dept Grievance Hearing held last week and the resignation of Director Linda Klotzbach.
  • Dec 30 p  Just noticed  an agenda posted for an emergency meeting of the Clay County Board of Health set for Jan 3rd at 9am. Not sure what is up but it might be a good un to watch.
  • Dec 29 late p  During these last  few 2010 days of this first decade of the new century, Clayberry is seeing many of the same problems felt when the year 2000 opened.
  • Dec 29 late p Around 7:30 pm we were once again without a staffed Clay Ambulance Service.
  • Dec 29 late p Once again it was lack of administration that left the county without a fully staffed operation and resulted in delayed service,  Some things never change in County Clay. Isn't it a pity.
  • Dec 29 p Lets talk about a dirty SOB
  • Dec 29 p Just got this email: Someone has stolen the propane tank from the Procious Community Church...it is one of the big huge tanks. If anyone has any info please contact the State Police.
  • Dec 29 p What  a dirty trick
  • Dec 29 p Reminds us of a  time when Tommy Young Sr was in a local store when the conversation turned to someone stealing something from an old lady. Tommy Young's response was: I can't stand a thief!
  • Dec 29 p Who said: He's sitting there lying .... He's rude ....   He upsets the entire staff...  He has treated us all without respect.  Find out in the latest Communicator! Just 70 cents!

  • Dec 29 a With the decorations put away, we're about ready to get in the groove once again.

  • Dec 29 a Been lookin at those walls too long? The radio station is hosting cash bingo tonight over at the Senior Center at Two Run. Doors open at 5:30 with games beginning at 6pm. Looks of fun all for a good cause and you may walk away with a pocket full of jingle.
  • Dec 29 a Friday night 101.7FM is holding the annual New Year's Eve Dance in that same location. Munchies, dancing and the dropping of the Clayberry Ball at midnight is good way to bring in the new year.
  • Dec 29 a For our drinking buddies, Pat's Sports Bar beside Spread Park will be partying in 2011 with Karaoke and a big offering of good things to eat.
  • Dec 29 a One of the local oil and gas producers called to ask if Tommy and Tommy were out of jail while waiting sentencing. The answer is no. Update in the latest Communicator.
  • Dec 29 a Still, everything from an ATM machine to a truck to an engine are turning up gone. Keep your doors locked clickers.
  • Dec 29 a For those folks that think we're over reacting when we say we're living in a depression, More banks failed in the United States this year than in any year since 1992, during the savings-and-loan crisis, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
  • Dec 29 a On this day in history, the 363 day of the year:  Born 1800: Charles Goodyear (inventor); Born 1808: Andrew Johnson (17th U.S. president); 1845: Texas admitted to the Union as the 28th state; 1848: Gaslights were first used at the White House
  • Dec 29 a   1930: Fred Newton became the first and only person to swim the length of the Mississippi River. It took him about six months to cover the 1,826 miles from Minnesota to New Orleans. • Dec 26 p We've got snow on the ground and more on the way.
  • Dec 26 p As of 9pm Sunday night, another inch of the white stuff is on the ground today.
  • Dec 26 p Weathercasters are calling for as much as 7 inches total accumulation in the next 24 hours.
  • Dec 26 p Power remains on around Clayberry as far as we've heard.
  • Dec 24 a It's the time of year when us dilly dallying fools head off to the mall to hurry thru the stores buying picked over, non sale items. It takes a minimum of three boxes under the tree to insure proper Christmas credentials.
  • Dec 24 a The radio station is playing all Christmas tunes for the next 36 hours. Enjoy.
  • Dec 24 a With a white Christmas coming our way and utilities on so far, the best of Holiday cheer to one and all.
  • Dec 24 a No updates for the next couple of days.
  • Dec 23 p We often talk about the future of this county being tourism. Others say there's no money to start such an economy. We beg to differ. There just isn't a will.
  • Dec 23 p For instance, over in Pocahantas County, the hotel motel tax assessment netted $1,309,202. in 2009. This year , as of early Nov, the income stream has netted $905,471.  That ain't too shabby in itself. Wouldn't Clayberry politicians love to have an additional million + to play with,
  • Dec 23 p  Add to that hotel tax, lots of shopping, gasoline sales, property taxes on vacation homes, and alcohol taxes. It all adds up.
  • Dec 23 p We don't have a ski industry here but we sure could develop snow rides on a tourism train, cold weather fishing at Lake Sampson, and winter time carnival events in the downtown area. It just takes some leaders, something Clayberry is in short supply of.
  • Dec 23 p Shenandoah Telephone Company, we knew em as Shentel when they were operating the cable TV system in Clay, is improving service in counties like Pocahantas. Stuff like HDTV and being able to record up to 100 Tv shows for later replay are now being offered. Didn't happen for us,
  • Dec 23 p Over there, after negotiating with the Town of Marlinton,  their internet service is being upgraded to a minimum of 9Mbit/sec for residential customers and 12 Mbit/sec for business folks. If you check your Frontier DSL speed, it ain't too good.
  • Dec 23 a Hard to believe but the Lady Mustangs put it all over Calhoun, 69 to 9. Now that's a win!
  • Dec 23 a How many years did Tommy Young Sr and Jr get for their years of thievery? Still no answer!
  • Dec 23 a Yesterday the Fed Judge heard objections to various parts of trial testimony. After a late start, that process took hours. Expect another hearing sometime in January and then sentencing to follow maybe.
  • Dec 23 a In the mean time, Sr and Jr remain behind bars accrediting time off their sentences.
  • Dec 23 a Several showed up to watch from the peanut gallery including our Sheriff.
  • Dec 23 a The Top Badge showed up dressed to the 9s in a suit, white shirt and tie. Not a uniform but a suit.
  • Dec 23 a Some of us giggled thinking he must have bought it from Charleston Tent and Awning.
  • Dec 23 a We're getting ready for a holiday break. Maybe another post of two but basically, we're taking the next three days for bad behavior.
  • Dec 23 a From all of us at Delta Communications and County Clay, the best of holiday wishes to you and yours.
  • Dec 22 a Want a deal? Everything in Kate's Floral is on sale for one half off.
  • Dec 22 a There's a reason too. After Christmas she and three partners are opening a new social service business in that building.
  • Dec 22 a Interested in buying the floral business? It's for sale.
  • Dec 19 a Tuesday morning and no delays or school closure to report.
  • Dec 19 a Tonight the Lady Panthers take on Wirt County in home court action. Be sure to come out and support the home team. Game bigness at 7:30pm. For those too far away, 101.7 FM will be sportscasting the affair.
  • Dec 19 a Also tonight the Buffalo Creek Watershed group will meet at the Courthouse beginning at 6pm. The tiny volunteer band is working restore the tributary of the Elk back to supporting a trout population and draw for tourism.
  • Dec 19 a County Commission meets Wed morning at 10am. After a few delays, the Feds are sentencing Tommy Young Sr and Jr Wed morning. It will be the end of a long saga in County Clay and the area known as Murder Mountain.
  • Dec 19 a The Health Board met for 2 1/2 hours last night trying to come up with a peeing contest between the Director of Nursing Jay Carper and Health Director Linda Klotzbach. A decision was needed after a $4000 grievance hearing decided the two should be separated from one another.
  • Dec 19 a Ever seen two little kids picking at each other. One  flips and ear followed by the other shooting a rubber band...... Even during last night's meeting the bitter divisiveness showed thru loud and clear. Eye rolling finger pointing and calls of He's a liar were heard from Klotzbach.
  • Dec 19 a  Even before the Board voted 3 to 2 to reinstate Carper as Director of Nursing and put his supervision under Dr Leela Patel and away from Klotzbach,  the choked up Klotz told the Board should be leaving by the position by the end of Jan 2011.
  • Dec 19 a In support of their boss, three of the in-house nurses spoke in support of her ways and spouted out that Carper was outrageous in his words and threatening in nature on more than one occasion. One scrub wearer said she had locked herself in the office just in case.
  • Dec 19 a Klotzbach quotes: I can't take this anymore ... He is an abuser ...He turned on me .. Life is too short for this ... It's not worth it ... I'm going ... you [Board] win!"
  • Dec 19 a The decision to reinstate Carper took so long because the Board allowed the same BS to be rehashed over and over. It was a split vote with Kathy Sizemore and Joyce McLaughlin showing support for Klotz's efforts to keep supervision under her control.
  • Dec 19 a  Division is nothing new at the Clay County Health Dept. The place blows up about every 5 years. Klotzbach came to the throne five years ago when Karen Dawson resigned under Board pressure. Dawson replaced Kathy Fortner after personnel issues came out in public. In each case, a tiny problem was kept top secret under it festered into a cancerous canker that exploded during a public meeting. Such a sad situation for the county and the employees.
  • Dec 19 a Truth is, if the Health Dept closed down today, would we even notice a difference?
  • Dec 19 p  The last week or so has been centered around the weather and not dweezaldork politicians.
  • Dec 19 p Four + days closed schools in the county. Kids and teachers had a big time. The rest of us worked to keep sidewalks and driveways cleared off.
  • Dec 19 p With several inches of snow left over from last week's accumulation, this week brought an additional 8 inches of the white stuff.  Dec 19 p Even with State Road salt shakers going full blast, snow and icy roads prevailed county wide.
  • Dec 19 p Most of us made it thru the week with utilities up and running.
  • Dec 19 p Delta Communications, publishers of the Communicator is hosting an Open House Monday from  11 to 1pm. The world is invited to 2278 Main Street for the get together.
  • Dec 19 p  Monday night is the School Board meeting at Big Otter Elem., 6pm
  • Dec 19 p Also for Monday night, the Bd of Health is holding a special meeting to consider recommendations made by an impartial arbitrator on the Linda Klotzbach vs Jay Carper peeing contest. the independent guy all  but said, put the two in separate corners and don't let them have any contact with one another. It will be interesting to see what the board decides.
  • Dec 19 p  The local radio station is holding their annual holiday get together Tuesday, at the station, 5:15. Pop and munchies for all that attend.
  • Dec 19 p  Kates Floral Shop is about to make a big change next week. Should be good for the county.
  • Dec 19 p  Wed morning the County Commission convenes at 10am. It will be the last meeting of Larry Darryl and Darryl with Fran King leaving office being replaced Jan 1st by Arlene Tucker.
  • Dec 19 p Tucker was elected back in May but has attended almost 0 meetings since the election. So much for hitting the ground running.
  • Dec 19 p During her campaign she touted having two dynamite solutions for the county. Many are anxious to see what she has up her sleeve.
  • Dec 19 p Five days and counting for the big day on the 25th.
  • Dec 19 p Sunday afternoon a light snowfall continues in Clayberry. it is beautiful.
  • Dec 17 p Roads have been so bad, the garbage trucks have been unable to serve their customers. Waste Management will have trucks parked at the Rt16 /  Rt 4 intersection Saturday morning from 6:30 am to 10:30am. Bring your garbage over for disposal Saturday morning only.
  • Dec 16 7:24p Clay County Schols will be closed on Friday.
  • Dec 16 p  Edith Moore, 85, of Stuart Fl., formally of Clay, see OBITUARY page
  • Dec 16 p  Sylvia Celesta Lyons Butler, 94, of Ivydale, see OBITUARY page
  • Dec 16 p Did you know the Clay Middle School Mady Mustangs put it all over Valley Fayette last night, are you ready.... 78 to 2.  Talk about a shellacking!
  • Dec 16 p If you start looking around on the web, you can find a bunch of stuff. Like on the So WV Federal District Court web site. several upcoming items in addition to the Sr and Jr  sentencing coming next week. Stuff like: The Sierra Club vs Fola Coal on that same day; in March, Boggs vs Fola Coal with a trial date set for April 2011.
  • Dec 16  2:30p   Roads are absolutely snow covered. An hour ago one guy coming down I-79 from WVU said it didn't look like plows had touched the roadway.
  • Dec 16  DOH salt shakers and plows are working the roads but man oh man, the snow continues very heavy at times. At this time, our guess, Clayberry has received around 6 inches of new flakes at this time.
  • Dec 16 p  Weather casters are predicamatating another inch or so coming our way during daylight hours and a touch more tonight.
  • Dec 16 p Much better than the biggy snow storm this time last year, utilities appear to be up and running at this time. If you're thinking about coming out on the roads, don't. If it an emergency, forget it.
  • Dec 16 p No word yet on whether school will be in session Friday. If the utilities hold up, will post ASAP.
  • Dec 16 p  By the way, with the new blanket of snow, Clayberry is beautiful.
  • Dec 16 a  Hello Steve Workman over in Ohio.
  • Dec 16 a Happy 8th birthday wishes to Mika & Savanna Cadle.
  • Dec 16 a Clayonians have some of the priciest wa wa in the state according to the WV PSC. Clay Roane PSD customers pay the 8th highest rates in the state. Interestingly enough, Clay County PSD is not even on the list.
  • Dec 16 a One year ago right now most in Clayberry were without electric service due to a big winter storm. This afternoon a winter blast is suppose to drop up to 6 inches of the white stuff followed by sleety rain or ice on the county, Batten down the hatches and get your chores done early today.
  • Dec 16 a The Federal Courthouse docket in Charleston lists Tommy Young Sr and Jr to be sentenced on Dec 22nd at 10:30 am. Rescheduled from last month, it might be a go this time around.
  • Dec 16 a We will post updates as long as utilities allow it.
  • Dec 16 a For those in town, Rite Aid is now a distributor of Clay County's locally owned and operated newspaper, The Communicator.
  • Dec 16  a

  • Dec 14 Outside a fine mist of snow keeps coming down. Roads have a new dusting of the white stuff with temps around 17 degrees.
  • Dec 14  One year ago today the big snow storm was just beginning. This year the heavy snow never made it. In the last 36 hours or so , Clayberry received around 4 inches of snow at the most.
  • Dec 14  The Communicator hit news stands in the North. Wed morning everybody else should get theirs. A little slower than normal but the white stuff skeered us.
  • Dec 14 Our lead story is an interview with outgoing Commissioner Fran King

  • Dec 13 we'll provide updates as long as we have utilities. Good luck to one and all tonight. it's going to be a cold one!
  • Dec 13 a  We've got that fine mist of snow coming down at 10 am this morning. Not a whole bunch right now but certainly coming down mixed with wind blasts sure to take your hat.
  • Dec 13 a One cancellation so far: The radio station Board meeting for this evening has been canceled.
  • Dec 13 6 am It's official. Clay County Schools are closed for the day. Parents, you're in charge today.
  • Dec 12 late late  10pm  Clay County schools are operating on a two hour delay Monday. Sleep in one and all.
  • Dec 12 late p Bo Stephens talk math over at CMS for about a zillion years. Last week he had by pass surgery and is now at home recovering just fine. He'll back singing and playing guitar in short order.
  • Dec 12 late p Two years ago today, the ace cub reporter was under the by pass knife. Local politicians breathed easier until the guy recovered!
  • Dec 12 late p When you see Bacil Hickman, tell him happy 86 birthday and still going very very strong.
  • Dec 12 late p One year today, weather casters were telling us of a major storm coming our way. And it did. Although more moderate temps, the snow hit heavy and power remained off for two weeks for some in Clayberry. For most: for three days power lines were down all over, the power remained off for thousands for 5 days, and municipal water was all but nonexistent.
  • Dec 12 late p While we're waiting around for Sarah to call and the power to go off this time, how about some reading...
  • Dec 12 late p  The rich got much richer with Republicrats in control:  "The top 1 percent earned 23.5 percent of all income--more than the entire bottom 50 percent. That is apparently not enough. The percentage of income going to the top 1 percent has nearly tripled since the 1970s. In the mid-1970s, the top 1 percent earned about 8 percent of all income. In the 1980s, that figure jumped to 14 percent. In the late 1990s, that 1 percent earned about 19 percent."
  • Dec 12 late p  Think it's the flu? With a minimum of 500+ foodbourne deaths last year, it might be what you're eating and what was put in it.
  • Dec 12 late p No matter politicos say, in the beginning, Social Security only provided for the worker, widow, and children.
  • Dec 10 p Ever get an itch, a feeling something is about to change.
  • Dec 10 p Don't know why but we're feeling that hunch now.

  • Dec 9 p The main man himself Mr Santa comes to Clay Saturday morning.
  • Dec 9 p See EVENTS page for details.
  • Dec 9 p It took the Republicrat administration 8 years to tear down the country. If you're thinking buying a home is a good investment today, you might want to read this: U.S. home values are poised to drop by more than $1.7 trillion this year amid rising foreclosures and the expiration of home buyer tax credits.....  This years estimated decline, more than the $1.05 trillion drop in 2009, brings the loss since the June 2006 home-price peak to $9 trillion
  • Dec 9 p The current edition of the Communicator highlights the dismal performance of West Virginia school systems. Not that anybody reads the newspaper.. we sure got our fair share of hate mail. The local school system has stood on a  soap box for years touting how well our kids are prepared for life after graduating from CCHS.
  • Dec 9 p  Just a couple days back national news reported on how bad the entire country's education compares to other systems. Here' the entire report.
  • Dec 9 p Lets see now. The USA came in well below 27 other countries in reading and math and West Virginia finished dead last in the our Federal Govt's latest report.
  • Dec 9 a With bright sunshine filling the sky, it's still around 14 degrees. After several days of nothing but gray, what a difference the sunlight makes!
  • Dec 9 a For shoppers looking for a deal, Tiff's T shop on Main Street extended their buy one get one 1/2 sale thru this weekend.
  • Dec 9 a Tonight Clay Roane PSD meets in regular session down at the Procious Wa Wa Plant
  • Dec 9 a Last night the Lady Panthers worked four solid quarters where the score went back and forth several times. In the end, the Lady Panthers were victorious, 72-63. The Panthers have their first home game Friday night. Come out and support the home team.
  • Dec 9 a Our country is famous for starting wars around the world. If you haven't noticed, there's a new war, the one on the web. While many call the www, our platform, it's truly a corporate place to make money that tolerates us peons. That's until now.
  • Dec 9 a With Wikileaks tearing govt.s and corporations a new bung hole, the internet has to be squelched. They can't allow the public to know the dirty truth. Behind the scenes the USA has been working that angle for two weeks.
  • Dec 9 a In response, backroom hackers have been flexing their muscle shutting down choice web sites and gutting security around online services like Pay Pal, Master Card and others. For those that thought those internet sites were secure, think again.
  • Dec 9 a It's wonderful! The underling hackers are showing their strength as is WikiLeaks that has more lives than a cat. Before this is over, the world may end up with a new batch of leaders and corporations operating above board.
  • Dec 9 a We also believe in Santa Claus.
  • Dec 9 p It is truly another world war in progress
  • Dec 9 a   From Wed morning's Commission meeting...
  • Dec 9 a The Clay Ambulance service is always complaining about not having enough rolling stock. Yesterday it was revealed that they've parked one of their trucks for the winter. Another ambulance is out of commission after hitting a raccoon and ripping off the oil filter bracket.
  • Dec 9 a There was some extra $$$ left after completing the Queen Shoals PSD water line project. The $50,000 or so will be diverted to building restrooms and ADA compliant entrance way in t he old hardware building beside the new Courthouse.
  • Dec 9 a First word came on Chris Legg may be returning as a Black Shirt Deputy.
  • Dec 9 a On Wed's agenda was the hiring of a new Asst Prosecutor. In attendance was Prosecutor Jim Samples who asked to go behind closed doors for a chit chat. Lasted around 20 minutes. Usually that means they want to talk about money. Our guess, Samples wants the new person to get considerably more $$$ plus health care and still be called a contractor.
  • Dec 9 a The hiring of a new Asst Pros was tabled yesterday,
  • Dec 9 a  The Health Dept paid over $7600 for a 100 gallon water tank. The normal cost of a hot water tank is around $250.
  • Dec 8 p Several interesting snippets became public during the Tuesday evening Town Council meeting. Stuff like.....
  • Dec 8 p As noted as likely in the latest Communicator, the town is being sued in Circuit Court by the wa wa plant contractor Multiplex. According to the Mayor, a preliminary hearing was held in Braxton County yesterday at 1:15 before Judge Ric Facemire who  awarded a temporary injunction to the contractor. Sure sounds like completing the plant anytime in the near future is off the table. Next hearing is Jan 27th.
  • Dec 8 p Don't say winter construction ain't possible. This time last year in the ice, snow and cold temps, outside foundation work was in progress.
  • Dec 8 p The town's attorney has already been paid $9446.15.
  • Dec 8 p Town is once again talking about forming a municipal Court, a new ordinance on ATV's on roads they don't own, and some kind of ordinance to limit the only growth industry in the municipality, gambling machines.
  • Dec 8 p Town Badge Chris Davis has been on the job just a few months. During that time he's been injured a couple times limiting the amount he worked. Council feels he will be leaving soon as he takes a Sheriff's Dept Black Shirt job. Trained and equipped with a Fed grant, the new problem is, how to replace Davis since the grant $$$ have already been spent .
  • Dec 8 p  Also on Badges, the Mayor told Council , Black Shirt Jim Paxton would be retiring from the Sheriff's Dept in Jan.
  • Dec 8 p If that happens, that would make two openings. Paxton in Jan and Chris Legg from several months back.
  • Dec 8 p We didn't know it but, there is a little newspaper over in downtown Clay. Not sure the name of the rag but word came last night that it is to be sold later this month, Wouldn't it be great if the sale produced a second paper that provides in depth news coverage for the county.
  • Dec 8 p What a great Christmas present for the taxpayer!
  • Dec 8 p more on last night's Council meeting later today.
  • Dec 8 a Clay County Schools are on a  Two Hour Delay Wed. Sleep in.
  • Dec 8 a  Juanita Jo Ferrebee, 71, of Wallback, see OBITUARY page
  • From the email bag:  I am trying to get in contact with James Brady, who I sailed with on the Franklin D Roosevelt back in the mid 60's. Would appreciate any info  that would help me get in contact with him... My phone is 218 213 3341    thank   you  ken tanula
  • Dec 7 p CAEZ normally holds their monthly meetings the first Tuesday of each month. With their door locked and no agenda posted, you might want to call ahead to see if they're meeting tonight.
  • Dec 7 p The group spent lots of $$$ earlier this year to have produced a nice web site. If you look there, the meeting remains posted as happening tonight.
  • Dec 7 p For those wanting to get out of the house, Town Council and the Library Bd both meet at 6pm tonight in their respective offices.
  • Dec 7 p With all the main roads cleared  and traffic buzzing around, it remains darn chilly at 25 degrees at 3pm.
  • Dec 7 a  With over 2 feet on the ground, Grant County knows how to grow snow. Clayberry has about 4 inches of snow left over from the weekend and a fresh 1 inch on the ground and still coming down.
  • Dec 7 a Scheduled for today: CAEZ's Eco Dev Committee at 4pm, CAEZ full Bd at 6pm, Clay Town Council meets at 6pm. If they let us know, will post if there are cancellations.
  • Dec 7 a Also today , up in Braxton County, is the first court room step between the wa wa plant contractor and the Town of Clay. Judge Ric Facemire will hear the whining.
  • Dec 7 a If you operate a non profit agency (govt too) West Virginia Surplus Properties has a deal going on this week. They're giving away free desks, chairs, and file cabinets. Although they are short on desks, they've got tons of nice file cabinets and chairs. Free
  • Dec 7 a CCHS Athletic Director Ron Sirk attended last night's Sch Bd meeting. Some answers came. Stuff like: Why is the football team playing so many and so far away games. Answer: We're looking for teams we can beat!.
  • Dec 7 a Since Herbert Hoover clobbers us each year, we ain't going to play them in the future.
  • Dec 7 a The athletic dept raises money for much of its operation. They buy stuff on their own and keep their own books. Over the years, during public meetings, Boardsters have asked about those books. Speculation often comes on how much $$$ the boosters have.
  • Dec 7 a One of the reasons Sirk was asked to attend last night's meeting was to ask about finances. That question did NOT come up during the meeting. Afterwards one guy asked the AD to make finances public with a year end report. Sirk replied he had no problem with doing that.
  • Dec 7 a When Boardster Dave Mullins was asked to put the request on the next Board agenda, he replied he had NO interest in knowing about such and had never asked to see the finances.
  • Dec 7 a  Transparency is always a good thang especially when the Boosters could out themselves in deep debt and guess who would be responsible for the pay off? Us the taxpayer is the correct answer.
  • Dec 7 a The most recent Communicator made public West Virginia schools (including the Great nation of Clay) coming in dead last in a recent Fed Govt Report.  In t he great tradition of PR, School Super Kenneth Tanner had his own report last night. Citing a US World and News article, weighted with points for being disadvantaged, Clayberry schools scored pretty well compared to other West Virginia counties.
  • Dec 7 a Sadly, take away the govt BS, just 63% of our students are prepared for the future. Here's one link we found. After spending millions, extending the school day and school year, advanced training for teachers, 37% of our kids leave uneducated. That's not much to cheer about.
  • Dec 7 6:45 am  Clay County Schools are closed!!!!!!!!!!!! Sleep in one and all.
  • Dec 6 8:20pm Clay County schools will be operating on a  two hour delay TUESDAY.
  • Dec 6   5am  Clay County Schools are operating on a two hour delay today. Go back to bed for a while.
  • Dec 5 late p  Hazel Braley, 87, of Ovapa , see OBITUARY page
  • Dec 5 late p The School Board meets Monday night at 6pm. Here's the link to the agenda. Doesn't look like Gene King's hire is on the itinerary.
  • Dec 5 p Looking back, what a week!
  • Dec 5 p This Wikileaks guy is tearing world leaders a new climate change bunghole:  The US diplomatic cables reveal how the US seeks dirt on nations opposed to its approach to tackling global warming; how financial and other aid is used by countries to gain political backing; how distrust, broken promises and creative accounting dog negotiations; and how the US mounted a secret global diplomatic offensive to overwhelm opposition to the controversial "Copenhagen accord", the unofficial document that emerged from the ruins of the Copenhagen climate change summit in 2009.
  • Dec 5 p With the internet the last strong hold for independent voice, we're seeing what can happen to  the world wide web and how our govt. can take it down. Poof it's gone.
  • Dec 5 p What's really behind it all? Julian Assange is ready to uncover the dirt on the banking and Wall Street big shots. Got to get rid of him before that happens. Money talks!
  • Dec 5 p  During the election, the newbees all cried out to eliminate the pork, get rid of the earmarks. We knew that wasn't going to happen but voted for them anyway. Truth is, it is the Republicans that suck the most pork!
  • Dec 5 p Electric bills arrived this week. Instead of sporting the Elk Power Co name at the top, it read Black Diamond Power. A few years ago, the WV PSC took many of the small providers from the owners but left Elk and Black Diamond under Musser family leadership. During PSC proceedings, the PSC brought out the dismal leadership and uncaring attitudes of management as they left customers in the lurch on many occasions. Sometimes, corporations change names to get away from distasteful history.
  • Dec 5 p Instead of  court battle where the public would find out many of the underbelly dealings of the Sheriff's office, David "Stump" Morton settled his lawsuit against the Black Shirts.
  • Dec 5 p After an online poll and providing our best insight, for getting the stuffins beat out of him by an out of control Black Shirt, Stump garnered $90,000.00.
  • Dec 5 p True the Sheriff avoided all the public information and true he's strutting around like he won, he didn't. The people of Clayberry are now out that $90,000.  Mostly covered by insurance, watch our insurance premiums go thru the roof.
  • Dec 5 p  Doing something they should have done years ago, Thursday evening the BDA reluctantly voted to allow a third party free standing group into their fold and start promoting tourism in the county. It's about time!
  • Dec 5 p Our Top Badge badge made the news again this week when Judge Jack Alsop ruled for the Sheriff and against the County Commission. At issue was the CCC's refusal to hire the Sheriff's pick for an office worker. Seems the Commission's nepotism policy is too broad to stand the rigors of law.
  • Dec 5 p Can't you just see our wittle round Badge thumping his chest and behaving like a banty rooster for all that care to listen. I won I won!!!
  • Dec 5 p Once again the County, us, came out on the bottom. Real sad and we have another two years to go before a regime change is possible.
  • Dec 5 p  Clayberry received a light dose of the white stuff at week's end. Saturday afternoon the snow flakes got bigger. Saturday night the first big snow of the season left 6 inches on the ground.
  • Dec 5 p It is beautiful. It's starting to feel like Christmas.
  • Dec 4 p  At 4:30pm Clayberry has a good "dusting" of snow, maybe 1/2 inch or so with a couple inches predictamentated for overnight. Winter has made it to the Appalachian Mountains of County Clay.
  • Dec 4 a   Bobby D. “Tooter“ Summers Jr. 47, of Wallback,  see OBITUARY page
  • Dec 4 a With a large crowd on hand, and a pep band sounding good, in their season opener last night, the Lady Panthers put it all over Gilmer County. The Lady Panthers play again Wed evening in home court action. It's time to support the home team.
  • Dec 4 a Granny K's diner was closed Thanksgiving week. Almost immediately came word that the place was closing down. We asked. According to owner Kim, not so! And, not the auction either.
  • Dec 4 a Federal law enforcement routinely tracks individuals through their credit cards, cell phones, car rentals and even store customer loyalty programs without obtaining a warrant, an online privacy activist has discovered.
  • Dec 4 a Here's some great news:  Two Harvard Law School students have sued the Transportation Security Administration, seeking to restrict the use of full-body scanners and pat-downs at airports and joining a growing number of lawsuits filed across the country that claim the screening procedures infringe on constitutional rights to privacy
  • Dec 4 a A bunch of folks listen to corporate media like Fox Entertainment. That corporate thumb rarely presents the facts. Here's the truth:  In 1981, Reagan's supply siders wrote the tax cuts for the rich and his budgets. The Senate was Republican, and Reagan got the Southern Dems in the House to vote for him. All Republicans and a few Dems voted for the budget. The national debt had its worst year since 1945. The next year it got worse, and for 20 out of 20 years, the supply siders raised the debt relative to our ability to pay.
  • Dec 4 a Greedy high incomers are working today thru Congress to continue those richly tax cuts. Since Reagan, personal gain has always been agenda one, ahead of the good of the nation.
  • Dec 3 a Happy Friday morning one and all. Snow is on the way. Be careful out there.
  • Dec 3 a Ever hear of a bank offering live entertainment? Happening this morning over at the Bank of Gassaway in Upper Class Two Run. Acoustic tunes for the holiday season. Nice idea.
  • Dec 3 a Like to tell you about the great entertainment up at the Big Otter Community Center tonight  but we can't. They haven't sent us the schedule for Dec.
  • Dec 3 a Lady Panther B Ball action tonight at 7:30. If the radio station can get enough sponsors, you can hear the entire season on 101.7 FM and online.
  • Dec 3 a  This WikiLeaks thang is interesting. The guy has been releasing top secret military documents for months raising little more than an eyebrow. At first leaders complained the guy was endangering lives. Turns out that wasn't true. However, he was embarrassing the Crap out of our military and documenting the dirty deeds.
  • Dec 3 a Then Wikileaks released another ton of top secret stuff a few days ago.
  • Dec 3 a Then came word that guy had the goods on American bankers and Wall Street dealings.
  • Dec 3 a All H broke loose. OFF WITH HIS HEAD is the battle cry.
  • Dec 3 a If the Federales don't won't the public to know about unlawful dealings, don't do em!
  • Dec 3 a  Setting up a tourism committee within the BDA seems like a nice fit. Seems like something the BDA should have been focusing on for a decade. Last night the BDA debated the issue for 20 minutes and with just 2 members voting Aye, finally set up the arm designed to promote, organize, and grow existing attractions,
  • Dec 3 a  After the BDA,  Larry Darryl and Darryl held a public hearing on renaming Summers Fork Road from the Procious side, The new name will be Ovapa Rd. Not one single resident showed up to present their views.
  • Dec 3 a The most interesting part came after the brief hearing when all three of em went behind closed doors AFTER the hearing for a talk. No No don't think for a minute they were discussing county business in secret. Noooo way, not in Clayberry.
  • Dec 3 a Putting the whispers together, sounded like Asst Prosecutor Clint Bischoff was resigning from duty. With other people talking it was hard to hear . Not sure the reason for the departure but with Clint gone, the notion of a speedy trial in Magistrate land will certainly come to a screeching halt.
  • Dec 3 a Last week  Stump Morton's civil rights  trial was suppose to go to Federal Court. We understand the case was settled out of court.
  • Dec 3 a At issue was Black Shirt Robert Belt beating the stuffins out of Stump Morton. Our Sheriff was included in the case for not properly training his Deputies and allowing such behavior.
  • Dec 3 a  OK Clickers, time for an online survey.  How much did the Top Badge cost the county this time?  Email over your best guesstimate ASAP. Will release the most popular guess during the weekend wrap up.
  • Dec 2 p Mailing to those in the military this holiday season? Better check the ADVISORY page for US Post Office deadlines.
  • Dec 2 p You ain't got a clue of what's going on in Clayberry unless you read the latest edition of the Communicator, now on the news stands world wide... well, sort of world wide.
  • Dec 2 p For those considering sponsoring the radio station's broadcasts of CCHS B Ball games this season, the complete schedule is also on the ADVISORY page. Don't bother looking for the schedule nor the lunch menu on the official school web site. It ain't there. So much for 21st century technology and the $20m a year school system.
  • Dec 2 a Lets see now. Interested in some edumacation? The Community College over at Wallback has new information on our home page button / link.
  • Dec 2 a We've been hyping up the keep your money in Clay, Shop At Home idea. While most stores are sitting on their thumbs and letting the $$$$ go over to Summersville, Spencer, and Charleston ..... The Sheltered Workshop in Lizemores is offering some special deals as is Tiff's T's on Main Street where it's buy one get the second for 1/2 off time.
  • Dec 2 a  We hear about cyber bullying on the boob tube. Seems the solution would be simple, turn off the puter, laptop, or other communications device. Others think the simplest solution ain't good enough, check out the ADVISORY page for a CCHS meeting this Friday where Badges and others will present their official solutions.
  • Dec 2 a With the beginning of the new month, it's time for another wonderful Business Development Authority meeting at Courthouse, 5:30 pm today.

  • Dec 2 a  "I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was six. Mother took me to see him in a department store and he asked for my autograph." - Shirley Temple Black
  • Dec 1 p  As of 2pm today the snow continues to fall but without accumulation. Teachers have their hands full as the rug rats get fired up in hopes of an early out.
  • Dec 1 p Forget it. The roads are barely wet.
  • Dec 1 a Snow, sleet, and cold temps came with this first day of December. Brrr..
  • Dec 1 a The Communicator made it out the door Tuesday afternoon. Lead story takes a look at West Virginia's educational system coming in dead last in a brand Govt report. We also provide some of the details on the recent Big Robe decision on settling the Irene Nelson will dispute.
  • Dec 1 a Also, if you have a business and deal with the Clay County Ambulance Service, it should be known, doing a good job and turning in an invoice for services is NO reason to think you will get paid. Just because Ambulance Director Bev King  OK's the purchase (or service), you might not get paid. Happened during the last Commission meeting when Larry Darryl and Darryl refused to pay at least one invoice because King did not have prior authorization. Be warned Clayberry businesses.
  • Dec 1 a A wealth of knowledge in each edition of Clay County's Citizen Journal, The Communicator.
  • Dec 1 a The first CCHS Panther Basketball game of the season is this Friday. Non profit 101.7 FM wants to air all the home boys and girls basketball game. They need some help.

The idea is to get our kids' names and good deeds mentioned. Give em a call if you can help. 304 587 8353 or email at wyap@frontiernet.net
