Dec 2012
-
Dec 31 a Nearly the end of the
winter break for students and the last day of the year.
-
Dec 31 a From weather extremes
to loss of life to horrendous govt miss-action, it's been a very tough
year .
-
Dec 31 a For many. today marks the
end of a dismal performance and reign of crap by our Sheriff. We are hopeful
that with a new guy coming to office at midnight, level headedness will
return to Clay County law enforcement
-
Dec 31 a Why not bring in the new year
by having some fun over at the Senior Center at Two Run. Tonight the radio
station rings in 2013 with free munchies, music, and dance. The party gets
underway at 8pm . The mighty Clayberry ball drops at midnight sharp.
-
Dec 31 a For our loyal clickers and
advertisers that make this site possible, thank you and best of new year

Dec 29 a At 8am it's raining in Clayberry
with an inch or so of snow expected tongiht.
-
Dec 29 a Be careful out there
-
Dec 29 a So as we look back over the
last 12 montbs....
-
Dec 29 a What did you do that showed
courage
-
Dec 29 a What did you do that reflects
your true nature
-
Dec 29 a What did you do in 2012 to
improve your life
-
Dec 29 a Are you and your family better
off at the end of 2012 than at the beginning?
-
Dec 29 a
-
Dec 28 early a Tonight
the Panthers take on Nicholas County in home court action. Come out and
support the home team. Tip off at 7:30pm
Dec 28 early a Most of the winter storm
seems to be going around Clayberry. 200,000
are without power.
Dec 28 early a The radio station
is moving its operation over to Valley Fork School. Move should be complete
around the middle of Jan.
Dec 28 early a To cut costs, they're
considering some kind of internet phone service. Maybe a Magic Jack or
Skype service. They need a clean clear connection . If anybody has any
ideas on what will work, email them at the above email address.
Dec 28 early p West Virginians
are more
likely to die from drug overdoses than residents of any other state,
and one in 10 adults has a substance abuse problem, according to the Justice
Center.
Dec 28 early p With just 3 days
left to go, where has 2012 gone?
Dec 27 a Winter weather has arrived.
Those Dec afternoons with temps in the 60s, we think their gone for another
year.
Dec 27 a At 8am this morning, Clayberry
was being pelted with little round ice balls about the size of a
BB. Temperature is hanging around 28 degrees with slicky road conditions
here. Be careful out there.
Dec 27 a We spend the whole year waiting
and preparing for Christmas. Now two days afterwards, it's back to normal
with that dead droopy looking thing ready for tossing out the back door.
Dec 27 a The newest bestest yet Communicator
awaits your reading pleasure.
Dec 27 a With schools out and
many taking the entire week off from work, things are pretty quiet this
time of year.
Dec 27 a Our ever so huggable, loveable
Sheriff has just a couple more days in power before being turned
out to pasture. Some are asking, what's he going to do now?
Dec 27 a Without exception, the response
comes: Who cares as long as it ain't around here.
Dec 27 a It's going to take the new
guy, Miles Slack, a few days to get into the swing of things as Sheriff/
Dec 27 a Some things have to handled
right away. Like...
Dec 27 a He going to have to
replace the broke down desk chair and driver's side seat of the Top Badge
cruiser.
Dec 26 late p Lola E. “Big Aunt" (Summers)
Rogers, 84, of Wallback, see OBITUARY page
Dec 26 late p Dennie Buren Dobbins,
65, of Procious, see OBITUARY page
Dec 26 p Here's wishing everyone had
a nice Christmas break. For many, the four days off was enough of the family
time to last another year
Dec 26 p The Communicator should be
out the door today by 4pm. the lead story looks back on 2012.
Dec 26 p This morning the County Commission
voted the final aye to a new flood plain ordinance, AKA Zoning.
Dec 26 p The vote was unanymous. To
their credit, Larry Darryl and Darryl removed some of the most offensive
language in the law including jail time. According to Linky, the new law
includes an appeal process for disgruntled citizens.
Dec 23 a Communicator comes
out Wed mid afternoon or so. Email your chatters, classifieds, and such
right away
Dec 23 a Some consider these
the darkest days of the year. For those, rest assured, each day brings
more daylight minutes. Things are getting brighter each day.
Dec 23 a This time of year is the one
time when most everything and everybody shuts down for a couple days. Some
say Christmas is for the curtain climbers. It's not, Christmas is for the
kid inside each of us.
Dec 23 a When those Christmas gifts
include anti wrinkle cream, have joy knowing you're still here for the
effort to look younger.
Dec 23 a A full 1/3 of America will
be on the road, heading back home again. We hope this holiday season is
the best ever for each and every clicker
Dec 23 a Merry Christmas from Delta
Communication, Terri, Lindy, Andy
Dec 23 a Even those always troublesome
elected rascals
Dec 23 a
Dec 21 late p Sybil Hester Parsons,
86, see OBITUARY page
Dec 21 late p After climbing
out of the end of the world bunker, turns out, it's still here as are we.
Dec 21 late p Those end of the world
parties can be rough. Friday mid day, there was still suffering after downing
a half pint of Jack Daniels.
Dec 21 late p Maybe mixing caramel
swirl ice cream and Jack on the same evening, maybe that wasn't such a
good idea.
Dec 21 late p Since it looks like Christmas
will happen as normal, it's time to shop for the wifey. Lets see now, new
air shocks, a 5 ton jack, a new horn for the car, a pair of Carharts...
that should make her happy!
Dec 21 late p Forgot to mention, earlier
this week, Hiram Lewis the XXXIIV was back before Judge Jack Alsop asking
for charges relating to the June 2012 shooting to be dismissed.
Dec 21 late p Didn't happen. Trial
is scheduled for mid Jan.
Dec 21 late p For those afar, there's
five inches of snow predicamentated for the next 24 hours and the wind
is ripping thru the Nation of Clay. It's down right cold
Dec 21 With lots of wind, wet roads
and touch of snow in the air, 10:20am: Tonight's CHS
Panther game against Wirt County has been canceled.
Dec 21 a This waiting for the world
to end (11:11pm)
is getting old. While waiting, some info
Dec 21 a Somewhere around a half inch
of snow is on the ground at 6:30 this morning. Temps at 30 degrees. We're
suppose to get around a couple inches of the white stuff today.
Dec 21 a Kids are home for winter
break so we don't have to worry about sliding school buses. For the rest
of us waiting for everything to blow up tonight at 11:11pm, be careful
Dec 21 a Tonight the Panthers are scheduled
to play Wirt County in home court action. As far as we know, the game is
still on.
Dec 21 a Unless power is restored at
their transmitter site, 101.7FM will not be able to broadcast the game.
Dec 21 a For those wishing to memorialize
a loved one in The Communicator, the cost is $1-0 and the deadline is this
evening. Just email the picture, 25 word remembrance, and snail mail address
for billing, to the above email address
Dec 21 a CEO of Dineequity, which owns
Applebees and IHOP, made $5.4 million last year even as minimum wage for
Applebees servers in New York State was $5 an hour before tips
Dec 21 a CEO of Yum! Brands, which
owns Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC, made $20 million in 2011, while an assistant
manager at one of his Pizza Huts made an average of $26,500 last year.
Dec 21 a CEO of Macy’s took home $17.7
million last year while one of the holiday hires selling you some sale
cashmere will make an average of $8.50 for every hour she stands on her
feet.
Dec 21 a The wind is whipping up big
time. Trees are swaying.
Dec 21 a With a real hang over, the
ace cub reporter is going back to bed.
Dec 20 a Tonight the Clay High
musicians are hosting a Christmas Concert. See EVENTS page for details
Dec 20 a It was a heck of a fast paced
basketball game last night. The Panthers came up short against Herbert
Hoover HS. Truth is, it could have gone either way right up to the
last 10 seconds.
Dec 20 a Today is the last day of school
for the curtain climbers.
Dec 20 a This morning the electric
went off for a short while in parts of the county. Clayonains are heading
to rolling out their generators and heading to Go Mart to fill up gas cans.
Dec 20 a Now at 10:30am
t, the sky is gray, the wind is whipping up, and rain is just getting underway.
Weather casters are predicamentating temps dropping and rain mixed with
snow over the next three days.
Dec 20 a With the world ending sometime
tomorrow, we only have to worry about the next 36 hours or so.
Dec 20 a Do you have your "bug out"
bag ready? That's the stuff you're going to need to make it thru
the tough next few days.
Dec 20 a The ace cub reporter has his
at the ready. In the canvas tote: clean socks, a gallon of wa wa , flashlight,
a carton of Fart One bars, a package of watermelon seeds, heavy jacket,
matches, paper / pen, pint of Jack Daniels, and that 1969 era bong just
in case a survivor wants to imbibe.
Dec 20 a Everyone, you're on your own
Dec 18 late p Around 7:30pm Tues power
was restored to County Clay. That's the good news
Dec 18 late p By 8pm fire was reported
at Clay High School
Dec 18 late p Firefighters from
across the county responded in short order. The fire appears to have started
in the Vocational Dept computer lab. One wall near a micro wave oven
is blackened big time with water and smoke damage on that end of the school.
No injuries but a bunch of smoke.
Dec 18 late p Most agree, a power
surge brought on the electrical fire.
Dec 18 late p And for all the snot
lickers, Yes, there is school Wednesday
Dec 18 late p Tuesday's Lady Panther
B Ball game has been rescheduled for Wed at 7:30pm
DEc 18 p Tonight's CHS v HHS
B Ball game has been canceled
Dec 29 p After several blinks off and
on, around 11:30an today most all Elk Power customers lost service. That
remains the case as of 6pm tonight.
Dec 29 p The CHS Panther game has been
rescheduled for Wed evening
Dec 18 a Last night the Lady Panthers
garnered another big win making it 7 in a row. The Poca Dots went down
to defeat by 15 points. If you think there's a bunch of B Ball right now,
you're right. The Lady Panthers have games back to back one right after
another followed by a much slowed down schedule in Jan. Pretty crappy schedule
if you're asking
Dec 18 p Tonight the Panther's try
for a win in home court action against Herbert Hoover. Games begins at
7:30pm. Go Panthers.
Dec 18 p We're starting to look like
winter with lots of rain yesterday followed by much cooler temps today
with snow in the forecast.
Dec 18 p The publishers of The Communicator,
Delta Communication, are hosting a holiday get together Wed beginning around
11am. Munchies and fun on hump day. Nothing fancy mind ya and everyone's
invited.
Dec 18 p Las night's rescheduled Health
Bd meeting was a no bo . Not enough for a quarrel, quorum.
Dec 17 a Last night's post has been
corrected. Please reread. Fingers are working a little better this morning
maybe.
Dec 16 p Need a job? See JOBS page
now.
Dec 16 p Sorry we don't have the details
from Saturday's shooting in Hartland bottom.
Dec 16 p TV-8 reported: West Virginia
State Police are investigating a shooting in Clay County. Eyewitness News
has been told a person has been shot in the Heartland area. No word on
the extent of the victim's injuries, but we are told the victim survived.
Troopers do have three suspects. .....
Dec 16 p We'll check over at
the Courthouse on Monday to see if there are any criminal complaints on
file.
Dec 16 p The Health Bd is set to reconvene
their meeting Monday at 5pm in the Health Dept building on Main Street.
The gathering was stopped last Thursday when a Boardster had to leave on
an emergency. Probably the hot button issue will be the recent firing of
the Sanitarian. Poof, all of a sudden he was gone!
Dec 16 p School Board meets at 6pm
up at Big Otter Elem.
Dec 16 p Also Monday evening is a home
game for the Lady Panther B ball team when they take on Poca.
Dec 16 p Last night the Lady Panthers
put it all over the ever challenging Summer's County in the old Pit Row
Classic. So far, it's been all wins for the CHS Lady
Panther team.
Dec 16 p We neglected to mention Clay
Ambulance unit 17 catching on fire while in route to CAMC around 9:45
Wed morning. Sounds like the drive shaft or rear end goofed up and sent
the thing into flames. Thank goodness no injuries.
Dec 16 p A few years ago Ford units
were noted for their propensity to drop a drive line and the resulting
sparks would set the things ablaze. One such unit was used to transport
prisoners. Reported down South somewhere, with the prisoners shackled in,
they didn't have a chance and all perished.
Dec 16 p There have been 61 mass
shootings in the last 30 years. Note: Mass meaning a single gunman and
at least four or more killed. The yearly average has been increasing dramatically
in recent years. Almost 25% of those senseless slayings were in a
school setting.
Dec 16 p After each came calls for
tougher gun control laws and cutbacks on what kind of weapons free Americans
would be allowed to own and use.
Dec 16 p In Friday's tragedy,
as in every other case, it was an illness that caused the loss.
Dec 16 Mental illness needs to
be treated like any other disease and treated appropriately. It ain't any
different than any other life threatening illness.
Dec 16 p In 2012: February 22,
2012—Five people were killed in at a Korean health spa in Norcross, Georgia,
when a man got into an argument and opened fire inside the facility; February
26, 2012—Multiple gunmen began firing into a nightclub crown in Jackson,
Tennessee, killing one person and injuring 20 others; February 27, 2012—Three
students at Chardon High School in rural Ohio were killed when a classmate
opened fire; March 8, 2012—Two people were killed and seven

Florida, funeral home, killing two people and injuring 12 others;
April 2, 2012—A 43-year-old former student at Oikos University in Oakland,
California, walked into his former school and killed seven people, “execution-style.”
Three people were wounded; April 6, 2012—Two men went on a deadly
shooting spree in Tulsa, Oklahoma, shooting black men at random in an apparently
racially motivated attack. Three men died and two were wounded; May
29, 2012—A man in Seattle, Washington, opened fire in a coffee shop and
killed five people and then himself; July 9, 2012—At a soccer tournament
in Wilmington, Delaware, three people were killed, including a 16-year-old
player and the event organizer, when multiple gunmen began firing shots,
apparently targeting the organizer; July 20, 2012—James
Holmes enters a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises and opens fire
with a semi-automatic weapon; twelve people are killed and fifty-eight
are wounded; August 5, 2012—A white supremacist and former Army veteran
shot six people to death inside a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin,
before killing himself;
Dec 16 p And: August 14,
2012—Three people were killed at Texas A&M University when a 35-year-old
man went on a shooting rampage; one of the dead was a police officer;
September 27, 2012—A 36-year-old man who had just been laid off from Accent
Signage Systems in Minneapolis, Minnesota, entered his former workplace
and shot five people to death, and wounded three others before killing
himself; October 21, 2012—45-year-old Radcliffe Frankin Haughton
shot three women to death, including his wife, Zina Haughton, and injured
four others at a spa in Brookfield, Wisconsin, before killing himself;
December 11, 2012—A 22-year-old began shooting at random at a mall near
Portland, Oregon, killing two people and then himself.
Dec 16 p Ar emass killings increasing?
No says ABC
News and No again from Mother
Earth magazine.
Dec 16 p For a complete timeline of
events, be sure click on page 2 of that MoJ article.
Dec 16 p Sad Sad Sad....
Dec 16 p On a lighter note, we've
got the Poopster Countdown clock ticking away on the home page but there's
another. This Friday the world is suppose to end. Many are having Thursday
night parties.
Dec 16 p Our suggestions: don't pay
utilities nor the house payment, open Christmas presents on the 20th, drink
lots of beer, and don't buy any green bananas until Saturday.
Dec 14 late p America morns
Dec 14 a Welcome to Friday morning
where the temp is starting at 25 degrees and the sun is out in full force.
It's beautiful
Dec 14 a Tonight's the first home game
for the Clay High Panthers. Game starts at 7:30pm. Come out and support
the home team
Dec 14 a 101.7 will be broadcasting
the contest. For those that listen in via the net, a note
Dec 14 a The radio station web
site went kapuut on the 11th. Now on a new server, it's missing all the
old picture files and some of the main page references. The
home page audio link, so you can listen to tonight's game, is working OK.
Dec 14 a Go Panthers!
Dec 14 a The Health Dept Board was
ready for a juicy meeting last night. That was until a Boardster was called
away on an emergency. No quorum, no meeting. After about 15 minutes, all
headed to the barn.
Dec 14 a The meeting was rescheduled
to Monday at 5pm
Dec 14 a In attendance was Chad
Legg. Last August in a last minute quicky decision, Legg was hired as the
Sanitarian. At the end of Nov Mr Legg was fired without reason. In between,
he spent much of his time in training.
Dec 14 a Chad Legg showed up
for last night's meeting wanting to know the reason for the firing.
Dec 14 a Out guess is, he'll be back
for the rescheduled gathering on Monday.
Dec 14 a Between now and then, sounds
like the well trained and educated lad will be filing a grievance with
the Civil Service Board in Charleston.
Dec 14 a Since the guy hasn't been
on the job long enough to screw up and since any time he was there, he
was under the guidance of a mentor, what happened?
Dec 14 a Our guess, politics.
Dec 14 a Got ta love em!
Dec 13 p Update: Commissioner
Link came in later on Thursday and was sworn into another 6 year term of
office.
Dec 13 p Passing the second
reading of the zoning law was big medicine Wed morning during the CCC meeting.
As they say on TV, But Wait, There's More!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dec 13 p Seems the citizens of Clayberry
aren't the only ones unhappy with the Top Badge handing out Christmas bonuses
last week. If you don't know what we're talking about, pick up the latest
edition of Clay County's only locally owned and operated newspaper, The
Communicator.
Dec 13 p Wed morning, Larry Darryl
and Darryl heard from a delegation of Courthouse workers who raised serious
questions on the unlawful practice.
Dec 13 p One interesting point was
on the timing of the bonuses. One lady read from the state code that states
, extra concealed weapons account funds can be dispenses ONLY at
the end of the fiscal year. FYI: The fiscal year ends June 30th not Dec
31st.
Dec 13 p As for other employees receiving
bonuses, Nope was the response
Dec 13 p County Commission was
asked to seek a binding Ethics Commission opinion ASAP. The three
up front seemed to be in agreement on that.
Dec 13 p So, is the CCC going to take
the Poopster to Court over the $14,0000 pay out? Nope was the response
from Linky who added that Court challenges are very costly and take too
long
Dec 13 p As for the employees
taking the guy to Court, with all three heads nodding in agreement, Link
said employees would be welcome to do such.
Dec 13p As head of the CCC, Link signed
his John Hancock on the bonus checks. Wed morning Link was asked at least
three times while he did that. Why didn't he just tell the Sheriff, No,
I ain't signing the paperwork
Dec 13 p Even after the third time,
no response came from the CCC.
Dec 13 p They are caught and everybody
knows it
Dec 13 p We've been calling Arlene
Tucker Queen Smiley. We've watched meeting after meeting come and go without
her saying a word.
Dec 13 p It was brought to our attention
that we've been wrong all along. Queen Smiley does say something at each
meeting. At the beginning, she says three words, I pledge allegiance before
the peanut gallery fills in the rest.
Dec 13 p We stand corrected.
Dec 13 p Happy Birthday wishes
extended to Elizabeth Sampson and Jeff Boggs
Dec 13 p This moring Judge Ric Facemire
had them all to raise their hands and promise to obey the constitution
as each government worker was sworn into office or appointed position.
It was a nice time in court. Lots of hand shakes and hugs
Dec 13 p One person was missing from
action, Linky Poo
Dec 13 p Everybody else cleared their
schedule for the formal ceremony except that one guy, Commissioner Linky
Dec 13 p After saddling the county
with a new Zoning Law maybe he was afraid to show up with everybody else.
Dec 13 p Heck, maybe he won't take
the job at the trough for another 6 years!
Dec 13 p As for Link and the direction
he's been taken this county, can't help but think about Mr Bailey's movie
quote: Merry Christmas Mr Potter
Dec 13 a Board of Health meets
tonight. With their newest Sanitarian Chad Legg getting fired two weeks
ago (read the latest Communicator for details) with the reason being, not
enough $$$ to pay him, might be an interesting meeting!
Dec 13 a We've had a flood plain law
(zoning) on the books for decades. Last month the CCC held a public hearing
on the changes they were making to the document. Everyone, 100%, in the
crowd told Larry Darryl and Darryl, we don't want the regs and leave us
alone.
Dec 13 a They weren't listening clickers.
Wed morning all three of the Commissioners voted Aye on the second and
final reading of the new Ordinance.
Dec 13 a At an earlier meeting with
FEMA officials, those Suits told us, about the only real change needed
with the new ordinance would be to change wording to reflect using the
newly changed 2013 maps. Currently the county is using 20 year old maps.
Dec 13 a Here's the interesting part.
Before Wed's vote, Linky "missed our chance to vote him out of office"
Poo told the peanut gallery, the new ordinance had three changes. One,
the part about jail time for offenders was removed from the new version.
Two, the part about being three rows of cinder block out of the plain had
also been taken out of the final version. And third, if you can prove you
are out of the flood plain, then your elevations would prevail voer the
maps.
Dec 13 a One fat guy in the gallery
asked, Is there a fourth change, the part about using the new 2013 maps,
is that in the new flood plain ordinance?
Dec 13 a The one word answer from the
Link Meister was, "No."
Dec 13 a That's right. No was his response
Dec 13 a Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....
Dec 13 a Lets see now, the whole point
of the new ordinance, the whole point of the public hearing, was to start
using the newest , latest, 2013 maps.
Dec 13 a The current ordinance, on
page 8, refers to the old maps. The new ordinance, the one everybody read
before the public hearing, refers to 2013 maps.
Dec 13 a Yet Linky says that was NOT
changed in the new law they just voted on..
Dec 13 a It's a head scratcher clickers.
Dec 13 a Update on the Poopsters
unlawful Christmas bonuses and the peeeturbed Courthouse employees, that's
in the next update to this site. The site that nobody reads
Dec 12 a So what does 12-12-12
amount to? Significance?
Dec 12 a Well, actually none
Dec 12 a At 12:12:12 p.m., the
day will offer fans of the number 12 a whopping six repeats! 12/12/12 12:12:12.
Nice.
Dec 12 a At 1:21:02 a.m.,
palindrome lovers everywhere can rejoice in the single second that marks
when the date-time combination is the same read both forwards and backwards:
2012-12-12 1:21:02 = 201212-1-212102.
Dec 12 a Other than being National
Ambrosia Day, 12-12-12- is an interesting series of numbers but little
else.
Dec 11 p The Communicator made it out
to news stands across the region around 5pm today. A whooping big
28 pages of news, views, and images on life in the Great Nation of Clay.
Enjoy
Dec 11 p To take back government we
have to get our heads out of the I phone and look at this world. One good
way to do that is to attend public meetings
Dec 11 p A good time to start that
process comes Wed morning when the County Commission convenes at 10am
Dec 11 p Two interesting items on the
agenda.
Dec 11 p First up is a group
of Courthouse workers who are peed at the Sheriff handing out over $14000
in Christmas bonuses to his employees. Not sure if anything can be done
about the outrageous spending habits but Larry Darryl and Darryl
are sure to say there is nothing they can do about it.
Dec 11 p O Contrar!!! Without a Commissioner's
signature on the checks, no money can be spent.
Dec 11a Also in the morning is the
second and final vote on implementing new zoning laws called a flood plain
ordinance. For those in attendance, be sure to keep your ears peeled for
who votes Aye and Nay.
Dec 11 a Communicator comes out this
afternoon around 4pm
Dec 11a In the mean time, if
anyone sees David Hanshaw, tell him to report to the Sheriff's office right
now
Dec 10 p The US Department of Labor,
Employment Standards Administration, Office of Workers’ Compensation, Division
of Coal Mine Workers Compensation will be providing assistance to applicants
applying for program benefits under the Black Lung Benefits Act on Wednesday,
December 12, 2012 from 9 am to 3 pm at the Clay County Library located
at 614 Main St, Clay, WV (304/587-4254). The Black Lung Benefits
Act provides monthly payments and medical benefits to coal miners totally
disabled from pneumoconiosis (black lung disease) arising from their employment
in or around the nation’s coal mines. The Act also provides monthly
benefits to a miner’s dependent survivors (surviving spouses, orphaned
children, adult disabled children and fully dependent parents, brothers
and sisters). The program provides two types of medical services
related to black lung disease: diagnostic testing for all miner-claimants
to determine the presence or absence of black lung disease and the degree
of associated disability; and, for miners entitled to monthly benefits,
medical coverage for treatment of black lung disease and disability.
Diagnostic testing includes a chest x-ray, pulmonary function study (breathing
test), arterial blood gas study, and a physical examination. Medical
coverage includes (but is not limited to) costs for prescription drugs,
office visits, and hospitalizations. Also provided, with specific
approval, are items of durable medical equipment, such as hospital beds,
home oxygen, and nebulizers; outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation therapy;
and home nursing visits. For more information call 1-800-347-3751.
Dec 10 early early a For
the early bird clickers...
Dec 10 early a The Hurherald
web site reproted yesterday: State Police say a man and a teenager busted
down the door of a house at Big Otter, not far from the I-79 interchange
and near Clay's State Police barracks. They reportedly fired several shots.
Two individuals have been taken into custody. Authorities are saying the
victim was beaten, threatened with a gun and robbed. State Police
issued a BOLO for a car seen leaving the scene of the invasion. The vehicle
was tracked down by police near Liberty Square in Teays Valley in Putnam
County. More to follow... Workers at the stores describe seeing officers
with guns surrounding a car before two were arrested. Troopers are trying
to figure out if the woman knew anything about the crime.
Dec 10 early a Yesterday
morning, while still sleepy eyed, over the scanner came a request for an
ambulance at the Green Shirt detachment sometime around 7am.
Dec 10 early a Clay County's Public
Library made the Charleston Gazette Sunday morning with a story on $1000
worth of DSL internet equipment paid for with Federal stimulus $$$ but
unused after a year of setting on the shelf. We're putting the blame squarely
on internet provider, Frontier.
Dec 10 early a Why, the fiber cable
is in place but is shut off.
Dec 10 early a Get out your roll of
tin foil and make one of those funnel hats before it's too late.
With the world ending on Dec
21st, there's no reason to pay your utitlies this month. Heck, why
bother to even buy Christmas presents?
Dec 10 early a 63%
of Americans now believe legalizing pot should be a state's rights
issue.
Dec 9 p Victoria Fields, 85, of Wallback,
see OBITUARY page
Dec 9 p Jonathan "Big D" Duffield,
30, of Clay, see OBITUARY page
Dec 9 p Delegate Dave Walker's recent
Legislative Update is now posted on the ADVISORY page
Dec 9 p Communicator comes out Tuesday
afternoon. Email your chatters, events, classifieds, 2012 memorials (see
ADVISORY page) by Monday's 5pm deadline.
Dec 9 p If you didn't see your little
rug rat on the homepage , check out the Communicator for more.
Dec 9 p From the mail bag:
There was a bit of confusion at the sporting goods store this morning.
When I was ready to pay for my purchases of gun powder and bullets the
cashier said, "Strip down, facing me." Making a mental note to complain
to Harper about the gun registry people running amok, I did
just as she had instructed. When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally
subsided, I found out that meant my credit card!! I have been
asked to shop somewhere else in the future!! I think they need to
make it more clear to we seniors
Dec 6 p 11 years ago Dubbya II
told the world a pack of lies to get the country behind him and in war
with Iraq. He said stuff like, they have chemical weapons and are going
to us it! We took the media hyped BS hook line and sinker.
Dec 6 p Now eleven years later, Obama
De Bama is saying similar things but about Syria.
Dec 6 p What to believe?
Dec 6 p Last night the Lady Panthers
put it all over Braxton County, 46 to 39. That's a big rivalry and great
win for the Lady Panthers/
Dec 6 p With only one law enforcement
officer on hand, sure glad there was no repeat of last year's Braxton County
game where a School Board member was belly bumped, and a Braxton A D put
a head lock on a local Magistrate.
Dec 6 p Hiram Lewis was in Court this
morning to hear motions that his bond be revoked after getting arrested
a few weeks ago. That topic never came up today. Instead, before anything
else happens, a mental evaluation will be conducted on the one time Republicrat
candidate for state office.
Dec 6 p All along, Lewis has said that
he shouldn't be in court, that the indictment against him is bogus and
everything should be tossed. Many of us thought such was the rantings of
a mad man.
Dec 6 p This morning, Judge Facemire
heard the same spiel again and this time commented, that he would hear
those issues but today wasn't the right time such. The Judge added that
he thought the topic had some merit.
Dec 6 p Could it be that the indictment
is flawed? Maybe the Prosecutor's office goofed up?
Dec 6 p Shouldn't take too long to
find out. Facemire ordered the Prosecutor expedite the mental evaluation
thang and get the show on the road ASAP.
Dec 6 p Someone was asking if there
is going to be a decorate your dog contest during the Santa parade Saturday.
The answer is Yes and see the ADVISORY page for details.
Dec 5 p Brent Boggs plead guilty to
a murder for hire felony scheme. If convicted of that deed, he was looking
at 15 years behind bars. This afternoon Judge Jack Alsop sentenced
Mr Boggs to 1 to 3 years in the slammer plus a $5000 fine. Brent
never fidgeted, looked around, or showed emotion. None.
Dec 5 p Thursday morning Hiram Lewis
is to be in Circuit Court land for a revocation of bond hearing. Rules
of bond say, while on bond, you cannot break any laws. There are several
adult hearings slated with all beginning at 9am. We're not sure who
will go first.
Dec 5 p Lewis was arrested last
June after shooting Steven Bogart. Lewis made bond after about a week in
the CRJ. A couple weeks ago he was arrested on a wishy washy charge
of intimidating a witness. The witness was none other than our lame
duck , Top Badge.
Dec 5 p For those interested in peanut
gallery duty in the Courtroom, all the little rug rats will be at the Courthouse
THursday morning decorating Christmas trees. Be sure to bring your camera.
Dec 5 p Does it seem quiet to anybody
else? You know what that means don't you?
Dec 5 p The norm would be, something
is about to hit the fan!
Dec 5 p Want to be in Saturday's parade?
Maybe ride on a float, walk with your decorated pooch, play in the
kazoo band, or even load up the curtain climbers in the back of your truck
and ride down Main Street? See ADVISORY page for details.
Dec 5 p Now for something important....
Dec 5 p Beginning midnight tonight,
it will be legal to smoke pot in the state of Washington.
Dec 5 p Some palces have all the fun.
Dec 3 p The lead story in the Communicator
covers the background info and history on the JG Bradley Campground and
the relationships of CAEZ with the Buffalo Creek and Gauley RR Co-Op. At
issue is a $200,000 loan to build an overly priced sewer system for the
lodge building.
Dec 3 p Last night the executive
committee of the BC&G RR Co-Op met and signed the loan into reality.
Once again the CAEZ Director says everything is a go complete with all
permits in place to proceed.
Dec 3 p Also in the way of catching
up, the Business Development Authority (BDA) convened their monthly get
together up at Mountaineer Grille. Get food but better yet, sit down folks,,
not going to believe this, the group is trying to come up with a
game plan for 2013. Stuff like supporting local businesses and some kind
of welcome wagon packet for newcomers and businesses entering the county.
Dec 3 p Nice idea and a great
time to get started.
Dec 3 p The radio station still needs
to get sponsors for the Clay High Basketball season. First game they're
airing is Wed night. Great chance for a business to get their message out
to the world and on the cheap too.
Dec 3 p The count down clock is ticking
away folks. Just 27 days until he's actually out of office. None too soon
either!
Dec 3 p Leading up to Halloween, the
Tourism Group sponsored a Scare Pole contest in downtown Clay.
Dec 3 p They're doing the contest again
with a Christmas theme. This time around, the North Pole contestants will
be judged on Dec 8th. Get entered today. Call Amanda Moore at the Courthouse
to sign up.
Dec 3 p After spending well over a
million dollars, a local 911 dispatch center has been set up for the Great
Nation of Clay. Located in the back end of the old post office building
on Main Street, the place comes to life Tuesday morning at 10am.
Dec 3 a Electric was restored this
morning just before 7 am. Great!
Dec 3 a There was a mistake
in the CHS B Ball schedule. Tuesday's home game ain't. It's away
Dec 3 a The Business Development Authority
meets at 5:30 tonight up at Mountaineer Grille beside Spread Park. The
last time they held a meeting someplace other than the Courthouse was over
at the State Road garage at Two Run about three years ago. On that
cold weather night, the members nearly froze to death without
heat. I know I know, should have been plenty of hot air but it wasn't enough!
Dec 3 a Don't go looking for the agenda
on the BDA web site, the latest one is for April. In addition
to gobbling up some good food, the meeting includes making plans for the
2013 year.
Dec 3 a Tonight the School Board
meets at the Pentagon at 6pm. The
agenda includes discussion on the big education changes being made
by the State Board of Education. They might (should) get into the dirty
backroom politics made public during the firing the Jorea Marple firing
scandal two weeks ago.
Dec 3 a Tuesday brings out Town
Council and CAEZ Bds for monthly gatherings.
Dec 3 a Last week was a pretty hectic
week as far as news. Looking back we neglected a couple important mentions....
Dec 3 a Thursday evening the County
Commission held a public hearing to collect input from the public on stricter
zoning laws for the county. Larry Darryl and Darryl were up front in the
Court room as the place filled beyond capacity. It was standing room only
with an overflow crowd in the hallway.
Dec 3 a For well over an hour, the
public had their say. Not one person spoke out in favor of diminished property
rights. At times the place was a buzz with more than one person trying
to get a point cross. Fingers pointed at the CCC often.
Dec 3 a In a nutshell, people knew:
FEMA pays almost nothing to citizens after a disaster, the law is just
another way to step into our private lives, and the cost to hire a mandatory
engineer / surveyor before add ons or new building, well, it's very pricey.
Dec 3 a Many spoke: Just leave us alone!
After several of the orations, the crowd in attendance roared with applause.
After and sometimes during BS from those up front, the audience muttered
disputes just loud enough to be heard. In Clayberry, we know bologna when
we hear it.
Dec 3 a Soon to be Sheriff, Miles Slack
advanced: If the whole point is safety, why not just let the current law
expire; if the law expires and banks can't give loans in flood prone areas,
then there won't be any new construction there; and, those living in such
areas already know it and can fend for themselves. Made a bunch of sense.
Dec 3 a The whole shebang came to a
screeching halt around 7:15 after Commission Prez Linky Poo told the crowd,
no matter what they say or think, he planned to vote FOR the new law. Immediately
forty people got up and left. No other questions came. Link knows how to
handle a crowd!
Dec 3 a He had said what the assembled
knew all along. It didn't matter what the taxpayers had to say, the elected
folks were going to do what they darn well wanted.
Dec 3 a As one guy was leaving he told
Linky that he would never vote for him again.
Dec 3 a In response, Link: You missed
your chance. You've got me for another 6 years. Then I'll be 68 and I'm
out of here!
Dec 3 early a Some time early this
morning, after a very warm night and light rain, the electricity went kaput
in the county. As of 5:45 this morning and without telephone service, unsure
of the size of outage or if school is in session today
Dec 3 a We're in the dark once
again
