NOVEMBER 2004 NEWS
  • Nov. 30 pm Five weeks ago the county was all upset when Sheriff Fields resigned early from office to take care of his ailing wife and do some deep sea fishing. He later changed his mind and agreed to stay on the job until the end of his term, Dec 31st.
  • Nov. 30 pm Yesterday, Clayberry Assessor Suzie Legg came to the Courthouse, packed her belongings, left a letter of resignation and ski daddled. The resignation was effective last night at midnight.  Legg lost her high dollar job during the Primary election in May 2004.  Ms Legg has secured work in Charleston with the WV Tax Department.
  • Nov. 30 am County Commission will hold a Special meeting this Friday to appoint a replacement for Suzie Legg.
  • Nov. 30 am Richard Cummings was arrested in the shooting of Tommy Young Sr last Wednesday. His hearing will be held before Magistrate Boggs this Thursday at 2pm.
  • Nov. 30 am  The last Grand Jury returned a true bill on Beverly Nicholas. Her trial was to begin next Tuesday for forgery. Erase that from your calendar. The Prosecutor dismissed the charged against her.
  • Nov. 30 am Yesterday a patron and a restaurant owner both commented that if the new tougher smoking ban was voted into affect in Jan. by the Bd of Health, too bad, they weren't planning to changing their ways by forcing patrons to put out the smokes. Under the new law, the business owner will be the one facing criminal penalties.
  • Nov. 30 am If you have an opinion on the smoking ban, send your written thoughts over to the Health Department NOW. This is the public comment period and the only chance to have your voice heard. During their last Bd meeting, the appointed ones decided NOT to hold a public hearing on the matter.
  • Nov. 30 am On that new ban....  that includes smoking in front of any building on Main Street, any back door, and any place where an air conditioner vent is located.  They said the ban was to protect the public and the employees and workers from the smoke. Of course, the Lion's Club Gambling Hall is EXEMPT from the ban. Those people must not be susceptible to cancer! Their is a group forming to protect the government intrusion. Click Force WV for more.
  • Nov. 30 am Over in Iraq, we've set another record. This one is a body count record for one month. Click The Oil War Continues. Thanks W
  • Nov. 30 am Carl Rove worked political magic by pushing the gay marriage issue for W. With the US Supreme Court refusing to overturn Mass.'s Gay Marriage law, the question remains, Who's being hurt by it?

  • Nov. 29 am   Greetings and a happy and chilly Monday morning. Brrrrrrrrrrr....
  • Nov. 29 am  One thing we forgot to mention during the weekend wrap up was Richard Cummings being arrested. We got his picture on the site but then goofed up. Several weeks back Tommy Young Sr was carted off to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg. Young claims Cummings shot him. Last Wed the warrants were finally issued for Mr Cummings and off to Central Regional Jail he did go in lieu of a $17,500 bond. As of Last night at midnight, he was still incercerated.
  • Nov. 29 am The end of the month is always a slow time for public meetings so we'll do some web serving until someone gets shot or other calamity happens.
  • Nov. 29 am Like  How about the official web site for the Professor of Gilligan's Island fame or the site for Mary Ann, Dawn Wells. My how different they look today!  If we're talking TV shows, can't leave out Roy Rogers and the Queen of the West, Dale Evans.  Or Mr Meany, Larry Hagman from Dallas fame.  Here's the official site for the late Jed Clampett. How about the heart throb of many, James Drury, The Virginian.  And beginning in 1953, there was one of the nicest guys ever to grace the TV screen,  Red Skeleton.
  • Nov. 29 am The longest running TV Western was James Arness and Gunsmoke. Maybe even a little taller than James Arness, Clint Walker was famous on the boob tube as well.
  • Nov. 29 am  While we're bored.... 15 Things to do at Wal-Mart while your spouse is taking his/her sweet time:     1. • Nov. 28 am   With many fully involved in Deer Camp 2004, other than muzzle flash, it was pretty quiet around Clayberry. There was one exception...
  • Nov. 28 am Few things stir the county more than a water rate increase. After reading and hearing of mismanagement and rampant spending, just the mention of raising the already near the top rates sends many into a frenzy.
  • Nov. 28 am This week Clay Roane PSD voted to pursue a rate increase during a special meeting held in an upstairs side room of the courthouse on Tuesday. With only three boardsters present, they told the Public Service Commission, to draft the rate increase "just" in case.
  • Nov. 28 am Not in attendance Dave Salisgiver, said Saturday, he didn't know about any rate increase, a vote for a rate increase, nor anything about a special meeting.
  • Nov. 28 am The new rates for the entire system may be needed to cover the cost of serving 35 homes on a Punkin Ridge water line extension.. about 3/4 of a mile long. According to the PSD Chair, no rate increase was  or would be needed to complete the 33 miles long Amma/Left Hand project.
  • Nov. 28 am To comply with state open meeting law, any vote, decision, has to be posted on the meeting agenda. The question: was the vote posted on the Clay Roane PSD Special meeting agenda?  See the complete interview in the latest edition of The Communicator now on the news stands.
  • Nov. 28 am This past week, hunters and huntress' spent their time in camo and headed to the woods to blast Bambi. An informal survey based on the number of deer seen in the back of pick ups and on 4 wheelers indicate a low buck harvest.
  • Nov. 28 am With our leaders saying everything is under control in Iraq, the truth is, Iraq was safer and we had more control of the country before last year's occupation of the oil rich country.  There have been 1,380 coalition deaths, 1,234 Americans, 74 Britons, seven Bulgarians, one Dane, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 19 Italians, one Latvian, 13 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and nine Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of November 26, 2004. At least 9,326 U.S. troops have been wounded in action, according to the Pentagon. The Pentagon does not report the number of non hostile wounded
  • Nov. 28 am Cries of FOUL are getting louder. Several vote recounts have been called around the country. In Ohio, election officials are crying back saying their work on Nov. 2 2004 does not need a second look.  In one Ohio County, over 8000 ballots were tossed and a suit has been filed. It's a long shot but Kerry supporters have their fingers crossed.
  • Nov. 28 am Also of note: There was a plan to kill Dubbya while he was in the Cocaine capitol of the world, Columnbia and we have some commentary on religious right fundamentalists pushing just one brand of religion for the entire country;
  • Nov. 27 am   Now fully rested and after taking many Rolaids, we're ready to get back to web duty.
  • Nov. 27 am  Clay Roane PSD Chair Postelwait mentioned some time back that she was working on a web site for the water service provider and its customers. Click On Line to take a look see. Better bookmark it for future reference.
  • Nov. 27 am With many still in the woods looking for that 12 point buck, Clayberry remained quiet the last few days.
  • Nov. 27 am  While we were laying around belching and passing wind, the World Trade Organization put tariffs on our exports and our ole buddies in Pakistan got all peed off and banned  Newsweek magazine.
  • Nov. 27 am  Also... Dads, close close your ears for this next one. Our brain challenged leader Dubbya Oked the spending of millions on an abstinence from sex program for teenagers. The spending forbids even the mention of safe sex approaches.
  • Nov. 27 am  Instead of using her head, sweet Martha Stewart has been using her cleavage to swipe stuff while housed in her Alderson WV camp.

  • Nov. 27 am According to the HurHerald web site, a big chunk of Widen has been sold out from under Fola for $219 million.
  • Nov. 27 am  Send in those pictures of your big buck. Wirt County may be the smallest county in WV but here's monster 16 point buck taken from there.
  • Nov. 26 am We're taking another day off from duty. No posts unless there's an emergency.
  • Nov. 25 am   An elderly man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough."

  •   "Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.    "We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says.   "We're sick and tired of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this,  so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her." And he hang s up.
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like Heck   they're getting a divorce," she shouts. "I'll take care of this." She   calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at the old man, "You a re NOT   getting divorced! Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling  my brother back and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" And she hangs up.
The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "They'r e coming  for Thanksgiving and paying their own way."
  • Nov. 25 am  Happy Thanksgiving

  • Nov. 24 am Did we mention that Clay Roane PSD held a special meeting Tuesday morning and voted in a water rate increase. True True True and all the details are in today's edition of Clayberry's only source of news and views, The Communicator.

  • Nov. 23 am If you haven't checked our homepage weather button you might better ought ta. Snow's in the forecast for later this week.
  • Nov. 23 am Around the county it appears yesterday's deer harvest may have been light. In spite of great weather conditions and good number of hunters in the woods, few carcasses were seen on pick ups or 4 wheelers. Get out there and should em!
  • Nov. 23 am  The County Commission didn't happen yesterday. The rescheduled time is 10 am today. With Commissioner Triplett  having to work until side kick Reggie Sparks shows up at Clay Auto Parts, the guess is, the meeting may not happen until after 12 noon.
  • Nov. 23 am   Last call for classifieds and events for this edition of The Communicator due out Wednesday around 4 pm.
  • Nov. 23 am   All along there have been many that have said, W's oil war will do nothing less than make matters worse in the Middle East. That appears to be the case now as top leaders are publicly saying: the US MUST pull back from the blackened landscape or risk a massive death American death toll. Click, Was it worth it for more.
  • Nov. 22 pm First a correction. DOwn below in gray is mention of the Dec 10th auction of Wayne King's property. We read thru the notice and saw the part about Filcon NOT being a part of sale. What we didn't notice was the exemption for Wayne King's home. We stand corrected, thanks D and this surely makes for a happier Christmas time for Wayne and family.
  • Nov. 22 pm This morning at 10 the County Commission was to meet in regular session. Didn't happen. With Commissioner Bragg sucking up a pay check and almost never showing up for work, that leaves Sams and Triplett to handle the county's business. Commissioner Sams is out in t he woods taking a bead on Bambi and with no quorum, no meeting. County business will have to wait 'till after Sams puts meat in the freezer.
  • Nov. 22 pm For those trying to reach The Communicator office 548-4662, the phones are on the fritz. After moving to their new Main Street digs in Oct., the group switched to a new, over the internet phone service. Since then, things have gone South. While the internet gurus get their heads together, all calls are being answered via an answering machine.
  • Nov. 22 pm If the wrinkles in the voice over the internet get ironed out, phone service will be much cheaper. Bypassing the local phone service and all the tag along federal, state, interstate, intrastate etc. fees is a nice idea too. To find more about $20 per month phone service and unlimited long distance click Lingo for more
  • Nov. 22 pm Around the  county, this first day of Deer Camp, conditions couldn't be better. The rain has soften the leaves and the temps are moderate. Snow is expected Friday. Clayberry is quiet with most work assignments curtailed until the Appalachian holiday is over.
  • Nov. 22 pm Christmas starts earlier and earlier each year. Even before Halloween, stores were displaying Christmas sale items. By the first week in Nov., Christmas lights and trees were visible.
  • Nov. 22 pm With a mandate of 51% of the country in hand, W went to work figuring out the new year's budget. Did we mention it includes a new Presidential yacht? Sure does! The $388 billion document includes just that.
  • Nov. 22pm   Our compassionate conservative brain trust has worked out a deal to cut back college loans and Pell grants to the tune of $100 million. Click less for the poor to read for yourself.  And it's true, the majority of Clayberry voters gave W the nod on Nov. 2nd.
  • Nov. 22 pm  The Communicator is coming out early this week. If you want your event or classified in this edition, deadline is Tuesday around 3 pm.
  • Nov. 21 am  Before last week's highlights. Today over at Clay High is  freebie turkey dinner and gospel sign beginning at noon. For those seeking a great spaghetti dinner see the EVENTS page .
  • Nov. 21 am  Remember the missing family pet Dot? Just got this email:  Thanks so much for the posting.  We did find Dot.  Placing the post was helpful because people in the neighborhood were aware of where she was at. Thanks so much
  • Nov. 21 am  Just got this one too,  i just want to thank the complete dumb a-s hunter who shot my dog with a bow and arrow from a tree stand at close range sunday or monday the 14th or 15th  in the queen shoals area, luckily it went clean through. as for the hunter i'd like to take that arrow and shove it sideways up your butt. if you cant kill a dog at close range you sure couldn't hit a deer and you don't need to be in the woods anyway
  • Nov. 21 am And now for the week that was:  Other than a jury setting Thomas Holcomb free and  Jim Creel's truck being stolen, it was sort of quiet here.  As for arrest warrants for the guy that supposedly shot Tommy Young Sr.. haven't seen any. And the two guys that supposedly beat up, shot at, and ran over, off duty Calhoun County Deputy Ron Bandy.. they haven't been picked up. A year ago local business man and one time prosecutor Wayne King was in the news after filing for bankruptcy. His home was on the auction block.  The auction didn't happen back then but it's now scheduled for Dec 10th at 10am.
  • Nov. 21 am We did have some good news this week. Construction crews started throwing some dirt on the Amma Left Hand water line extension project in Roane County. At least one project is finally under way.
  • Nov. 21 am When the auction news became public this week, there was concern over the county owned Filcon Industrial site being sold off as well. It now appears that chunk of flood prone mud will be spared from the auction block.
  • Nov. 21 am This was the week to ready for the Appalachian Holiday, buck season AKA Deer Camp. Through out the county hunters and huntress's  made ready to go after Bambi. Deer Stands were prepared. 4 wheelers were tuned up. 1000's of rounds of ammo were purchased. Instead of paying the bills, new cameo was purchased. Instead of attending to normal work duties, we prepared for the big week.
  • Nov. 21 am Maybe the shots we've been hearing were from folks zeroing in their howitzers or maybe the noise was from those after a buck just a little bit early....
  • Nov. 21 am While we readied for buck season many more good Americans died in W's oil war.  There have been 1,363 coalition deaths, 1,217 Americans, 74 Britons, seven Bulgarians, one Dane, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 19 Italians, one Latvian, 13 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and nine Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of November 18, 2004
  • Nov. 21 am For the nearly 50 million who voted for Kerry, their was a certain odor starting to develop. Although main stream media has implemented a hands off and "lets move on to something else" policy, election fraud stories have been circulated. In Ohio, a full recount will be held before the Dec 12 Electoral College meets. In several areas where the new touch screen voting machines were used, more votes than voters have been counted, in other places, there were reports from voters that when they hit the KERRY button their mark went to W. Even more interesting, in every instance where paper ballots were used, the vote went to Kerry and matched exist polls. Probably most alarming came from the web site black box voting where they demonstrated how easy it was to hack into the electronic systems and change the recorded votes. Finally, one main stream news outlet published a detailed article on what we're talking about.
  • Nov. 18 am Are we Destroying Fallejah or saving it? Top General Richard Myers is saying the renewed Iraq patriotism against the US may result in a sand dune civil war. Is Dubbya's Oil War getting worse and make Vietnam look like a pie fight? Walter Kronkite THINKS SO.
  • Nov. 21 am On a lighter note:  Bubba and Billy Bob, who are both from West Virginia, traveled down to Asheville, North Carolina for a vacation.  While walking along a busy downtown street, they see a sign in a store window which reads, "Suits $5.00 each, Shirts $2.00 each and Trousers $2.50 a pair."   Bubba says to his pal, "Billy Bob, lookee here! We could buy a whole gob of these clothes, take 'em back to West Virginia, sell 'em to all our friends, and make a fortune fer us."

  •     Bubba continues, "Now when we go in there, don't you say a word, okay?  Just let me do the talkin' 'cause if they hear your accent, they might think we're ignorant, and they won't wanna sell them clothes to us. Now,  I'll talk in a slow Carolina drawl so's they won't know.
They go in and Bubba says with his best fake Carolina drawl, "I'll  take  50 of them there suits at $5.00 each, 100 of them there shirts at $2.00  each, and 50 pairs of them there trousers at $2.50 each. I'll just back up my pickup and......"
  •    The owner of the shop interrupts, "Ya'll from West Virginia, ain't you?" "Well....yeah," says a surprised Bubba. "How come'd you know that?"  The owner replies, "Cause this here's a dry-cleaners."
  • Nov. 19 pm   Dwayne Allen Friend, 40, see FUNERAL page
  • Nov. 19 am  A bunch of new pictures have been added to the PHOTO page, this site. Take an eyeball, you might be there
  • Nov. 19 am  It's Oh Boy time for  Kerry supporters in Ohio where the  Demorat party is requiring the Counting of ALL 150,000 provisional ballots. Without the provisional ballots, Dubbya is ahead by 136,000 votes. Researchers are now saying that W was wrongly awarded up to 1/4 million votes in Florida.
  • Nov. 19 am  Prison wages went up a bunch Thursday as Martha Stewart earned $15 m in one day.
  • Nov. 19 am  Our service men in Iraq are coming down with a rare blood infection in large numbers.
  • Nov. 19 am  After several delays, Clay County's brand new $50,000 ambulance rolled into town yesterday. We now have four trucks for service.
  • Nov. 19 am Get some paper and a pencil. Try this Chocolate Age test:   First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate. (more than once but less than 10)      Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)    Add 5 (for Sunday)   Multiply it by 50 I'll wait while you get the calculator.................   If you have already had your birthday this year add 1754    If you haven't, add 1753    Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.    You should have a three digit number   The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week). And the last two... Yelp, that's how old you are!

December 4. It is open in all counties or parts thereof except Logan, Mingo, McDowell and Wyoming.
  • Nov. 18 am Clayberry and nine other counties in WV had a leg up. We and all the tourist hunters get one extra  day in the woods which could amount to a bunch of extra $ for local businesses. Sunday gun hunting during the bucks season is legal on private land only: Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Jefferson, Clay, Wayne, Boone and Lincoln. The only Sunday that falls during the bucks gun season is November 28.
  • Nov. 18 am  Many of the good Bible thumpers are real intent on outlawing a woman's right to choose. Keep 'em bare foot, pregnant, and walking three steps behind.   Before Roe v Wade, back room coat hanger hatchets provided the service while the wealthy were ALWAYS provided the service descretely and without danger of complications. • Nov. 17 am For all of smokers and hackers, Thursday is the Great American Smoke Out Day. All the info is now on the ADVISORY page.
  • Nov. 17 am In a day when  many think it's Ok to shoot unarmed, injured Iraqi people in the name of war and no American values pertain to war time, Robert Kennedy may have said it best,  And now, as we look at the war in Vietnam, we wonder if we still hold a decent respect for the opinions of mankind, and whether they have maintained a decent respect for us, or whether like Athens of old, we will forfeit sympathy and support, and ultimately security, in a single-minded pursuit of our own goals and our own objectives.
  • Nov. 17 am  OK clickers, Be  On the Look Out: Beloved family pet, a female Jack Russell Terrier has been missing since Sunday afternoon 11/14, from the old Hook Samples property at Twistabout in Procious.  Our dog is brown and white with slight brindle coloring.  She answers to the name of Dot.  We miss her very much!!!! • Nov. 17 am  One more note for post 11/2 clickers. As a friend (that most rare of creatures, a Democrat in Alabama) put it, people care more about one person?s position on abortion than whether their own children have health care. People care more about preventing a loving, monogamous couple from having the same legal rights as everyone else than stopping transnational corporations from exporting their jobs. People care more about injuring the ?others? they hate than helping the ?us? we should love. Click, What Nov. 2 really amounted to for W.

  • Nov. 17 am  One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice "Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?"   The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug.  "I can't dear," she said. "I have to sleep in Daddy's room."   A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice:  "The big sissy."
  • Nov. 17 am Other than a few thugs stealing cars, it's pretty quiet in Clayberry this week. There 's a reason, we're preparing for deer camp.
  • Nov. 17 am Next week is a week long holiday called deer camp when the entire county shuts down as we head to the woods and blast away Bambi. Next Monday morning, by day break, every yeh who in the county will be sitting along a road or in the woods or on the back porch and the county will erupt in kabooooms.
  • Nov. 17 am This week we prepare for the holiday. Do we buy milk and bread for the family or another box of shells? Shells of course!  The front tire on the car is bald. Do we replace the tire or buy a new battery for the 4 wheeler? Battery of course!  Will it be beer for a week of deer camp or food stuff for the family of five? That's a no brainer, BEER!!!!!!!!
  • Nov. 17 am Probably the biggest question of all for this week... Will I buy a  hunting license this year or sneak around the hills hoping Jeff Lane don't catch me? Answer: Sneak of course!
  • Nov. 17 am  Restaurants will open earlier and next week, the county and much of the state shuts down completely. This week we make our plans for the biggest holiday of the year, Deer Camp 2004.  Don't look for next Monday's County Commission meeting to  happen at the normal time, 10 am either. Got to go kill Bambi!
  • Nov. 17 am  My wife is a sex object.  Every time I ask for sex, she objects. ~Les Dawson
  • Nov. 17 am   By all means marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy;  if you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher. ~Socrates
  • Nov. 16 am  It's Tuesday morning, do you know where your vehicle is? Clay Post Master Jim Creel thought he did Saturday night.  Creel was considering buying a new vehicle from Telford's Chevy and left his old pick em up there Saturday. Sometime during the night, vandals went in thru the topper and the back window. After bamming the steering column, off to joy ride they did go. The vehicle was found in Ivydale.
  • Nov. 16 am There were Bird prints already the messed over truck.  Creel went ahead and bought a new car on Monday.
  • Nov. 16 am So was it a drug overdose yesterday or a seizure? Those listening in on the scanner heard the Monday am traffic as an ambulance was summoned to Clay Middle School's alternative learning center on Gump Street. A few minutes later, the chopper was called in to medivac the 7 th grade student to Charleston. Word on the street has it as a  drug overdose and the kid nearly died in the middle of the classroom floor.
  • Nov. 16 am After talking with the kid's Father, we have a different story. The Dad said his kid had a seizure and drugs were not involved. At  Tots and Twats in Charleston, tests found no evidence of drugs in the youth according to Pop. He added that because of neighborhood history, the rumor mill went wild immediately and the 12 year old was labeled a druggie ahead of time
  • Nov. 16 am The arrival date for the new ambulance has been pushed back again. Set for last week and then moved to today at noon, ain't going to happen for a few more days. Maybe just maybe this Friday we'll get to see what $50,000 can buy.
  • Nov. 16 am Our Nov. 12th election was put to bed yesterday before noon. County Commissioners Sams and Triplett signed their names to the canvassed results as official. There were 27 or so challenged ballots, mostly from poll workers who were working election day out of their precincts.
  • Nov. 16 am Computer voting rigged for Dubbya? 150,000 provisional ballots not counted in Ohio?  there will be a statewide recount in Oh. Click Every Vote Counts for details. Problems in Indiana and a hand recount netted a Demo into office. Click Election Changed. There are calls for Sen Kerry to UNCONCEDE.
  • Nov. 16 am  So are we the nation of compassion and high moral standards? Maybe not. We're now taking Iraqi prisoners to countries where extreme torture is employed. Click Mean Streak for more.
  • Nov. 16 am So we?ve lost control of Mosul, flattened Falluja, and are unable to secure the oil pipelines that were supposed to pay for this war.   And the president still says what a good job we?re doing, and how everything?s great over in Iraq. Click Blown up Pipeline for more
  • Nov. 16 am Marines shoot unarmed civilians? Reports are now confirming the details of the Fallujah fallout.
  • Nov. 16 am  And finally this morning, Tonya Salisbury walked from jail on Veteran's Day with time served and a free woman. Tonya was originally indicted for the felony murder of her husband Chad. Those charges were thrown out after Prosecutor Grindo forgot to point the finger at her during opening statements a couple months back. Ahhhh Clayberry.
  • Nov. 15 am  Four years ago this date, we were waiting for a decision on who would be our next President. In that election Dubbya lost the popular vote but won with the help of the Supreme Court decision in a late night decision.
  • Nov. 15 am This time around there are many groups crying foul and suggesting computer voting slight of hand tricks. Here's one organization doing more than lip service, Black Box.
  • Nov. 15 am In 2000 we were outraged when W lost by 1/2 million votes and took the White House anyway. If Kerry would have won Ohio, he would have won the Presidency but lost the popular vote by over 3 million ballots. No doubt, outrage even louder. Maybe it is time to change the Electoral College system into something more democratic, say....  popular vote.
  • Nov. 15 am Tonight our School Board meets in regular session, 6pm at Lizemores Elem. School. Although the Open Meeting Law mandated meeting agenda isn't made public to the public, School Boardster Beth Cercone does so on her web site. Click It Should be public Link to see what's going on. Once there click the school board button in the top right corner.
  • Nov. 15 am  Crowded elevator smell different to midgets
  • Nov. 13 pm It's been 28 days since we've had an obituary notice, Jackie Ray Ward, 46, of Lizemores, see FUNERAL page
  • Nov. 13 pm With the morning frost sparkles burned off and the sun shining brightly from this past week.....
  • Nov. 13 pm  With over 30 Americans killed in the last three days in Fallujah, there have been 1,314 coalition deaths, 1,168 Americans, 74 Britons, seven Bulgarians, one Dane, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 19 Italians, one Latvian, 13 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and nine Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of November 10, 2004
  • Nov. 13 pm In our post 11/2 era of short sightedness, Dubbya went to battle in Fallujah only to find the bad guys had moved elsewhere. Behind the scenes our government has quietly acknowledged, insurgency in Iraq is growing and the muscle and might of the US military is doing little to set up a US dominated sand empire. As far as lessons learned: the men and women of Iraq are just like us, willing to die to defend their country from occupying attackers and those wanting to remove their religious freedoms. Today even Baghdad is less safe than than 24 months ago.  We say the Fallujah offensive is over and we won again. The truth is much different.
  • Nov. 13 pm   After the election, the Demorats are still scratching their heads and trying to figure out where Kerry Went Wrong while the party of intolerance works to  keep the media from reporting  a gay story on the next Republicat National Chair.
  • Nov. 13 pm  As progressive countries realize the insanity of executing children in the electric chair, the USA still provides for the death penalty for 15 and 16 year olds and is considering lower that threshold. The issue is before the US Supreme Court now.
  • Nov. 13 pm  As we all know, W is fighting a war to control oil interests. Now the nation's power brokers are telling the Iraqi people, they can't even grow their own food and have to buy their seed from.... well... us.
  • Nov. 13 pm Also behind the scenes, just 2 weeks since the election, the CIA is coming unglued. Reports are quietly emerging that long time employees of the Fed agency are bailing out left and right at the thought of four more W years. Seems Rummy has had his fingers in their pot waaay too long. At issue are the many opportunities to capture the 9/11 master mind, Big Bin, and the White House's reluctance to do so. The 59 million Kerry supporters can for ever more say, We told you so.
  • Nov. 13 pm Here in the Nation of Clay, our state code mandated election canvas was delayed when Commissioner Triplett got the two step Hershey thunder squirts, stayed in bed and a quorum was not available. Maybe there is a reason for having three Commissioners on the job!
  • Nov. 13 pm Thursday night the Clay Roane PSD Boardsters proved in public what Clay and Roane County leaders have known for years, planning, leadership, statesmanship and stewardship of our water system is non existent and beyond the PSD's abilities. When Roane County Commissioner Rodney Cox voted not to advance Clay Roane $900 two months back due to their ineffective leadership, he was right. It would be like throwing money down a rat hole.
  • Nov. 13 pm During Friday's Town of Clay vs WV PSC hearing, back door, way over the line plans to institute a regional water initiative was shot down. Town Council can once again press on with plans to upgrade and improve water service for the people that elected them to office, the residents of the municipality.
  • Nov. 13 pm Coach Ron Sirk's dream of winning a state football championship came to a muddy halt Friday night as the Shady Springs Tiger gave us a thumpin  48 to 0. Even first  downs were few and far between. In another first for the county, Clay's own WYAP broadcast the affair in real time with the aid of veteran sportscaster Senator Shirley Love.
  • Nov. 13 pm Clay County's independent newspaper, The Communicator, made it to the news stands yesterday afternoon. The lead article deals with a trashy situation in the county. Get yours before they're gone!
  • Nov. 13 pm It went bad for the Clay Panthers last night real quick. On a rain drenched field our Clay High Panthers took in on the noggin. We didn't ge t a first down until well into the second quarter and then we fumbled the ball.
  • Nov. 13 pm  Shady Springs Tigers barely sneaked by Clay, 48 to zip. The season is  over for Coach Sirk and plans for State Tournament action in Wheeling.
  • Nov. 13 pm Two days back a band of 20 kids and volunteers yanked out over 2 tons of trash and unsightly litter during a Veteran's Day "Clean Up Clay"
  • Nov. 13 pm  I refuse to think of them as chin hairs.  I think of them as stray  eyebrows. -Janette Barber-
  • Nov. 13 pm  A male gynecologist is like an auto mechanic who never owned a car. -Carrie Snow
  • Nov. 13 pm  Whatever women must do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good.  Luckily, this is not difficult.   -Charlotte Whitton
  • Nov. 13 pm   A group of second, third, and fourth graders, accompanied by two female teachers, went on a field trip to Churchill Downs, the local race track, to see and learn about thoroughbred horses.  When it was time to take the children to the bathroom, it was decided that the girls would go with one teacher and the boys would go with the other.

  •       The teacher assigned to the boys was waiting outside the  men's room when one of the boys came out and told her that none of them could reach the urinal.  Having no choice, she went inside, helped the boys with their pants, and began hoisting the boys up, one by one, holding onto their "wee-wees" to direct the flow away from their clothes.  As she lifted one, she couldn't help but notice that he was unusually well endowed. Trying not to show that she was staring, the teacher said, "You must be in the fourth grade."
"No, ma'am," he replied. "I'm the jockey riding Silver Arrow in the seventh."
  • Nov. 13 pm   A 2nd grader asked her mother the age-old question: How did I get here? Her mother told her, "God sent you." "Did God send you, too?" asked the child.  "Yes, Dear," the mother replied. "What about Grandma and Grandpa?" the child persisted. "He sent them also" the mother said. "Did he send their parents, too?" asked the child. "Yes, Dear, He did," said the mother patiently.

  •     "So you're telling me that there has been no sex in this family for 200 years? No wonder everyone's so grouchy around here".
  • Nov. 12 pm  Before we get to the post on the Town of Clay vs PSC hearing.... Back a few years ago, PSC Judge Anderson came to town for a hearing and was a real butt. It was as if someone had crapped in her oatmeal. That was then. This morning, that same Judge was a peach. Lively, nice spirits, prepared... Everything you could ask for in a public servant! With that in mind, we're going to quit calling her "Sweet Thang" as she was nicknamed three years ago.
  • Nov. 12 pm  Now for this morning's hearing. Here's what we think happened. PSC engineer Jim Weimer had a plan to get the Town of Clay to build a taller Maysel Water tank during the facility upgrade planned in 2005. The taller tank would have allowed Clay Roane PSD  more water for their customers and without having to install a booster pump at their expense. Weimer wanted the Town to foot most of the bill.
  • Nov. 12 pm With the Town resisting such ideas ( would cost town residents more in monthly rates) a hearing was called in the matter.
  • Nov. 12 pm That hearing was held this morning after a lengthy behind the scenes meeting with the Town and PSC engineer Weimer. In the end, the PSC backed away from their plan for the more costly tank and the Town is back on track to get their upgrade underway again.
  • Nov. 12 pm  In the real world, this doesn't sound earth shaking but here in the great nation of Clay where water service is all but none existent, this was a biggy!  Maybe just maybe, the final hurdle for a new water plant and system has been cleared and a few more people will have clean potable water instead of frog pee!
  • Nov. 12 am  It's raining like crazy clickers. Drive slow. Roane County has a flood advisory on this morning.
  • Nov. 12 am  Today at 10 am the Town of Clay will be before Judge Sona "Sweet Thang" Anderson during the WV PSC hearing.  At issue is Jim Weimer's back door attempts to regionalize the entire county and shove threw a costly water storage tank that would better serve Clay Roane PSD customers, NOT the town's residents.
  • Nov. 12 am If you haven't heard about last night's Clay Roane PSD meeting, it was a winner. Full details in this afternoon's Communicator. To sort of bait you into spending 50 cents ... Things got so intense, the Board couldn't even get the votes needed to adjourn!
  • Nov. 12 AM Tonight Clay High takes on Shady Side in regional playoff action. On the State Championship road to Wheeling, it's all up to Coach Ron Sirk. WYAP will be broadcasting the action beginning around 7:15pm.  Senator Love will provide the play by play. Enjoy!
  • Nov. 11 pm We said no more posts until after we get the paper out but....
  • Nov. 11 pm This evening at 7 Clay Roane PSD meets in regular session at the CDC building on Main Street.
  • Nov. 11 pm And a correction. Earlier we said the ambulance service would be receiving their new $50,000 truck Friday around noon. That has been changed to this coming Tuesday around noon.
  • Nov. 11 am  Today's a day to appreciate those that have served this great country. With government and banks closed, if it's possible,  things are little bit slower in Clayberry.
  • Nov. 11 am The Communicator comes out this Friday. If you want your event or classified listed, dead line is noon today. Hurry Hurry
  • Nov. 11 am  FYI   Since Jan 1 2004, this site has had over 206,000 hits with the average daily count at 761. In Oct. 2004 there were 23,595 people who took a look at Clayberry via this web portal.
  • Nov. 11 am  Community Radio station WYAP-LP thought it was finished with football this year. WRONG!! FRiday evening beginning around 7:10pm, Yap Radio will broadcast Clay High vs Shady Springs playoff action. Guess who the sportscaster is... Senator Shirley Love with commentary by Fayette County Sheriff Bill Laird. Should be fun and you don't even have to leave your house!
  • Nov. 11 am With a holiday in place and The Communicator coming out, no new site updates until late Friday. If there's an emergency or something important, posts will be provided rest assured.

  • Nov. 11 am From our President, " We are still being challenged in Iraq and the reason why is a free Iraq will be a major defeat in the cause of freedom." Did you vote Nov. 2?
  • Nov. 11 am And finally:  A bus load of Senior citizens are traveling to a casino. Halfway into the trip, a little old lady walks up to the front of the bus and tells the driver that there's a pervert on the bus. Then, she heads back to her seat and sits down.  Five minutes later, a second little old lady  walks to the front of the bus and tells the driver that they have a pervert  on the bus...   Since this is the second complaint in five minutes, the driver  decides that he had better check it out.

  •   He pulls the bus to the  side of the road and walks to the back of the bus.  There, he finds a  little old bald-headed man crawling around on his hands and knees.  The driver asks, "What the heck are you doing down there?"
The  bald-headed man looks up and says, "I lost my toupee, and I thought I had  found it twice, but mine is parted on the side."
  • Nov. 10 am With a still ailing Commissioner Triplett plus Jimmy Sams present, business lasted about 20 minutes yesterday during the County Commission meeting. In the next room, the county clerk's staff went about the Nov. 2nd election canvass of votes. The work continues this morning with about 2/3s of the ballots accounted for so far.
  • Nov. 10 am This Friday around noon the county's new $50,000 ambulance will come rolling into town. Our legislative delegation funded the new ride from Budget Digest grants.
  • Nov. 10 am  Clay County PSD held another quickie meeting yesterday. Lasted about 12 minutes and that's a long time for Chair King. For the "We want water folks" around Lizemores way.... It's going to be a while longer. The bids came in over budget ($2 m) last month and either more money has to be found or the service area has to be cut waaaaaay back. The PSD will try bidding the project again in Jan 2005 and try to get more bidders and lower bids.
  • Nov. 10 am   While Clayberry cuts firewood and checks the anti freeze, in Nebraska 10,000 over votes in a county of just 3000 voters...... Voting glitches in Charlotte may force the entire state to hold the election all over again.... Who's going to be the next next US Attorney General? Larry Thompson?  On the war front Halliburton admits wrong doing while Cheney was at the helm .... Even by silencing the newsby closing down their hospital, word does get out on high Falleja casualties while our military grins and celebrates.... while chief weapons inspector Duelfer nearly get his hind end blown off . Despite Rumsfiled saying we wouldn't loose any military men and women, 10 of our finest were killed yesterday.
  • Nov. 10 am So how does Rummy know Iraq has weapons of mass destruction? He has the receipts!
  • Nov. 9 am Remember Steve Sirk? The great big guy that use to ride down the middle of the roads on his bike? Steve's birthday was yesterday. If you want to wish him a big 55th  birthday you can do so by writing: HC 72 BOX 24B, IRELAND, WV 26376  or call 304-452-8894 AFTER 6:00 PM.

  • Nov. 9 am Today Clay County PSD meets across from the Courthouse in their Main street digs beginning at 10 am. Did you know they had a "special" meeting near the end of Oct.? Yelp they sure did. ' Had to discuss an Ivydale PSC complaint against them.
  • Nov. 9 am For quite some time Commissioners Sams and Triplett have been holding down the fort as District A Commmish HAC Bragg played hooky. Yesterday, Triplett was laid up in bed  forcing the cancellation of the gathering. With no meeting, the ballots couldn't be canvassed as required by state code. If Pete is feeling better (he had one cross wise) the canvass will be held today.
  • Nov. 9 am  Had some excitement around 3 am Monday as Robert Light and Jennifer Wheeler robbed the Little General Store in Elkview and then high tailed it to Sycamore. Cops nailed them there. See pictures on home page. Although the thievery was done in Kanawha County, they were nabbed in Clayberry and Magistrate King was called out for duty in the wee wee hours yesterday.

The John Kerry Virus - Stores data on both sides of  the disk and causes little purple hearts to appear on screen. - The Bob Dole (aka Viagra) Virus - Makes a new hard drive out of an old floppy. -  The Lewinsky Virus - Sucks all the memory out of your computer, then e-mails everyone about what it did. - The Arnold Schwarzenegger Virus - Terminates some files, leaves, but  will be back. - The Mike Tyson Virus - Quits after two bytes. - The Michael Jackson Virus - Only attacks minor files. -  The Lorena Bobbitt Virus - Reformats your hard drive into a 3.5 inch floppy ... then discards it through Windows.
  • Nov. 8 am Happy Monday morning. To get things going... What's the difference between the Vietnam War and Iraq? Dubbya had a plan to get out of Vietnam!
  • Nov. 8 am  We've told the world, we're taking back Fallujah. For weeks American troops have been staging outside the town. Raise your hand if you think any of the fighters have stayed put? Lets see .. nope not one hand went up.
  • Nov. 8 am Today at 10 am the Clay County Commission meets in regular session. Last meeting around 60 people showed up to voice their views on Commissioner Sams' display of the 10 Commandments on the Courthouse wall. But of course that was before the election. It's going to be a pretty day so get out and enjoy a public meeting!

  • Nov. 7 am Here's our wrap up for the first week of Nov. 2004.
  • Nov. 7 am  There have been 1,273 coalition deaths, 1,128 Americans, 73 Britons, seven Bulgarians, one Dane, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 19 Italians, one Latvian, 13 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and nine Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of November 5, 2004.
  • Nov. 7 am Checks came in this week. People were out spending their latest government subsidy. Grocery bills were paid. Smokes were purchased. Gas tanks were filled up. Around the county smoke was seen coming out of metal stove pipes. The last of fall colors piled up along the roadways. Kids put on sweaters.
  • Nov. 7 am After new funding was found, Deputy Chad Sizemore was put back on the force.
  • Nov. 7 am On Tuesday, in a county registered 4 to 1 Demorat, our media mangled residents fell victim to the Rove slant and elected a dimly lit Republicat back to the White House. Although W claims a strong mandate from the voters, keep in mind, more voted against the war monger than any other president in history. Locally 4111 came out to vote and selected Randy Holcomb and Fran King as the best candidates to lead Clayberry during the next four years.
  • Nov. 7 am Despite their best late night, arm twisting efforts, the day of straight ticket voting came to an end with less than 10% scratching the rooster. And, crossing all party lines... after a massive back door attempt....  and even after a from the  pulpit smear campaign.... 1065 stood up, went out on a limb and voted for a candidate on the Mountain Party platform as they sought management and leadership for the county!
  • Nov. 7 am During last week's Town Council meeting, discussion turned to a plan by Jim Weimer to side track the already funded water plant and system upgrade and replace it with equipment for a regional system thought dead in its tracks four years back.
  • Nov. 7 am Our economic development committee made plans to spend $5000 and raise portions of the old Filcon site above flood stage. The all but certain plan calls for tearing down the 1/4 completed Filcon building and look for money to erect a metal shell building. The BDA is still looking for manufacturing jobs for the county while the national exodus continues to third world countries. Without aid from government, another business, Freda's Diner, opened its doors in Lizemores.
  • Nov. 7 am Thursday evening another group, CAEZ, met and discussed preliminary plans to develop tourism in the county along the Elk.
  • Nov. 7 am Grand Jury met this week and returned just 6 indictments. In all of Clayberry with all its crime and arrests, the police knew they would be better off with holding grand jury presentations until for a new Prosecutor took office Jan 1 2005.  Good thinking on the part of the Badges in Clayberry.
  • Nov. 7 am Clay High Panthers under the direction of Coach "ole droopy drawers" ended the season with a 13 to 7 win over Sissonsville on chilly but dry Friday night.
  • Nov. 6 pm In the county of Clay we have sunshine from wall to wall and no rain in sight for the next four days. Yahooooooooooooooooo!
  • Nov. 6 pm Lets do some catching up. Off duty Calhoun County Deputy Ron Bandy was involved in an early morning knock down drag out at Froggy's Lounge, a  Big Otter bar Oct. 29th. Video cameras show him walking around after the incident and later sitting on the tail gate of his black pickup. First came the fighting and later shots were fired by a passing motorist. According to the police report: .. at 0418 hours Tpr Wriston responded to.. a fight complaint and shots fired... Wriston found Ronald Bandy the victim. .. Bandy advised that ROnald Jarvis was driving a green and grey Mustang; he was trying to get Robert King into the passenger side of the Mustang when Mr. King turned and hit Bandy in the face. King got into the Mustang while Jarvis put the Mustang in reverse knocking Bandy to the ground. Jarvis continued to back up running over the legs of Bandy. Once beyond Bandy, Jarvis put the Mustang into drive and ran over Bandy again. Jarvis and King along with a third subject Robert Greathouse, left the scene, Jarvis and King returned to the scene driving a truck with a flat bed... King was hanging out of the side window brandishing a firing a firearm. The subjects left the scene again by heading out county route 9. This complaint is based on statements made by Ron Bandy, Rose Jarvis, Ivy Carr, RObert Stutler, Misty Carson, Mark Carson and Tim Cart.
  • Nov. 6 pm Clay County Magistrate Jeff Boggs signed arrest warrants on Rodney Lee Jarvis of Chloe ( assault)  and Robert James King of Clay WV ( battery and brandishing) Oct. 29th.
  • Nov. 6 pm How about a little bit from the Town Council meeting held Nov. 4th... For those that were told the new wireless internet service would be available in July of this year and then again told it would be up and operating by Nov. 2004, we have an update. It aint! During the Council meeting it was made known the provider needed additional tower space around town before the system would work. Town seemed to be in favor of renting tower space on top of the water and sewer plants.
  • Nov. 6 pm As for the long awaited water plant upgrade, looks like our ole buddy Jim Wiemer has a back door plan. Weimer is the notorious PSC engineer that tried to ram three high dollar  regional water plant and system concepts into the county four years ago. As a lynch mob formed, the "aluminum siding salesman" fled town with his tail tucked. Seems Weimer  still has those regional plan mind set and is working behind the scenes to get his way. During this last Council meeting it came to light Wiemer wants to change the entire scope of the now funded water plant upgrade project back to a regional plan resulting in higher water rates for town residents. Currently the Town has the lowest water rates in the county.
  • Nov. 6 pm So what's Weimer talking about? Weimer wants town residents to cover the additional cost of expanding the size of the new Maysel water tank which would allow more water pressure to faraway needs in Roane County.  Town Council is now looking for a PSC savvy attorney to fight their case during a Nov. 12th PSC hearing at the Courthouse.
  • Nov. 5 pm Tonight the last football game of the season. Action starts at 7:30pm Clay High takes on Sissonville at Schoonover/Bradley field. Bring you portable radio along to hear play by play with Tollhouse Frank and Brother Ray on WYAP-LP, 101.7 FM
  • Nov. 5 pm Tomorrow the Clay High Girl's Volleyball team heads to Regional Tournament action taking on Sissonville at Sissonville. Games start at 9am Saturday. Regional tournament play, another first for CCHS Girl's Volleyballers!
  • Nov. 5 pm Yesterday morning early a white convertible Mustang wrecked at the Calhoun Clay County line on Rt. 16. Well known Richard Cummings and Sandra Guy were occupants. Sandra was ejected from the rag top and sustained leg injuries requiring hospital treatment. Cummings took off running toward Clay County.
  • Nov. 5 pm For those ever pompous Republicats, It's true W had more people voting for him Nov. 2nd, but He also had more people voting against him than any winning candidate for president in history
  • Nov. 5 pm Just before the Nov. 2 Election, Demorats typed up a bogus letter and passed it around the county in an attempt to sway voters. The letter used an ACLU letterhead and included that Republicat Sheriff candidate Dave Mullins and Mountain Party candidate Andy Waddell were ACLU card carrying ACLU members H bent on removing God and Christianity from all of Clayberry. The letter was FAXed around the county and handed out at the Demorat office. Both candidates lost in their election bid.
  • Nov. 5 pm  Since then, Mullins has been trying to find out who generated the letter.  According to Mr. Mullins, yesterday, he got victorious Sheriff candidate Randy Holcomb to admit, Court bailiff and long time School Board member Gene King first came up with the idea behind the letter.  If Mullins finds out who actually typed the bogus letter, watch for the fur to fly!
  • Nov. 5 pm  Yesterday Clay Town Council, the Business Development Authority and CAEZ held public meetings. We'll get to all the public meeting coverage ASAP.
  • Nov. 5 pm This morning was Grand Jury arriagnment day before Judge Ric Facemire. The place was packed. Briefly, Billy Jones charged with manufacturing a controlled substance plead not guilty as did Sam T Murphy for malicious assault, Tommy Young Sr, 5 felonies in the shooting of RIchard Cummings; Thomas Flores, not guilty charged with wanton endangerment. Betty Nicholas charged with forgery plead not guilty
  • Nov. 5 pm A couple observations from this morning's docket. All the defense attorneys showed up with brief cases and file folders out the ying yang. Prosecutor Gringo showed up for duty with nothing more than a pen in hand. • Nov. 5 pm In one more Gringo slam......  the ever sly attorney Duffy worked it hard to get his client Sam Murphy into  a trial date BEFORE Grindo leaves office Dec 31 2004. When completed, the county will receive rental income on the facilities from the WV Supreme Court. The Family Law Court has been the center of attention for five months after the public found out the county has been doing without rent dollars for over a year because of County Commissioner Jimmy Sams' 10 Commandment display in the CCC room. Family Law has been using the CCC room without charge for over a year. Sheriff Fields commented earlier this year that the county was losing between $600 and $700 per month due to the "10" on the Commission room wall.

  • Nov. 1 am And see if you know the answer to these: I am the first President in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record;   I invaded and occupied two countries at a continuing cost of over one billion dollars per week;  I spent the U.S. surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury;    I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history;   I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period;   I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period;  I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock market;    In my first year in office, over 2 million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every month;    I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in U.S. history.  My "poorest millionaire," Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her;    I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S. President;   I am the all-time U.S. and world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations;   My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends, Kenneth Lay, presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S. History, Enron;    My political party used Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my election decision;  I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton against investigation or prosecution;   More time and money was spent investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair than has been spent investigating one of the biggest corporate rip-offs in history;   I presided over the biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused to intervene when corruption involving the oil industry was revealed;   I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history;   I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts;  I am the first President in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission;   I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law;   I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. "prisoners of war" detainees and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention;   I am the first President in history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election);    I garnered the most sympathy for the U.S. after the World Trade Center attacks and less than a year later made the U.S. the most hated country in the world, the largest failure of diplomacy in world history;  I have cut health care benefits for war veterans and support a cut in duty benefits for active duty troops and their families -- in war time;   In my State of the Union Address, I lied about our reasons for attacking Iraq, then blamed the lies on our British friends.
