Dec 31 2004  Loyd Whitteker, 74, died December 30, 2004 at the Evergreen Nursing Care facility in Olympia, Washington, due to complications from Parkinson's Disease.  Mr. Whitteker was an ordained minister.  His first marriage ceremony was to marry his youngest son, Loyd Jay and his bride Patty. Mr. Whitteker was in the Navy and served his term during the Korean Conflict.  He also served a term in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conclict.  Mr. Whitteker was a good Christian and read his bible every day.   He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Joyce Marie Wood Whitteker, sons Sam L. Whitteker and wife Mayumi, of San Diego,CA; William (Bill) Whitteker and wife Kate, of Amma, WV; David Whitteker and wife Sue of Sequim, WA; Loyd Jay and wife Patty, of Hauser,OR and daughter Linda S. Bragg and husband Bob, of Coos Bay, OR; brothers Troy of Ojia, CA and Doy of Los Angeles, CA.  Mr. Whitteker leaves several grandchildren and great-grand children.  He is preceded in death by his parents William Thomas and Malinda Jane Whitteker, brothers Boyd, Floyd, and Roy, five sister's who died at birth, and grandson Kevin E. Whitteker.     Mr. Whitteker received graveside military last rites from his son William, who is a member of West Virginia groups of the Marine Corps League, the American Legion Post #61, the Disabled American Veteran's Chapter #27, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #37.

Dec 27 2004   Levi Hunter Kiser Infant son of Edward Charles and Jennifer Pearl (McGlothlin) Kiser entered into rest Sunday, December 26, 2004 at Summersville Memorial Hospital.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather Early Jack McGlothlin, and Caroline and Hugh Cartwright.  Levi is survived by a brother Justin Kiser of Summersville, WV and sister Tabitha Holly of Fredericksburg, MD. Dec 27 2004   Myrtle C. Hughes of Clay, died in Thomas Memorial Hospital Saturday, December 25, 2004. She was born June 22, 1908 to the late William E. and Frona Butcher. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Dane Hughes, son Orval J. Hughes, brothers Woodrow Butcher, Flemings Butcher, sisters Gladys Gibson, and Jean Beer.    She is survived by her daughters and son in laws Eloise and Vince Puglisi of Wheeling, WV and Shirley and Herald Blair of Charleston, WV. Brother Walter Butcher, Sisters, Jessie Facemire, Irene Pelfrey, and Earlene Kismore. 7 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.   Myrtle was a member of the Fairview Baptist Temple. She was a member of the Anne Bailey Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, American Rose Society, Clay Garden Club, and the West Virginia University Extension Service.

Dec 22 2004   Emma M. DeBoard, 68, of Indore, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 21, 2004, at home.  She was born on January 25, 1936, at Vaughan, Nicholas County, to the late Christopher Columbus and Mable Simmons. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Ray DeBoard, and her son, Allen Ray DeBoard.  She was retired from Gauley Bridge Dry Cleaners, and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Charleston.  Survivors include her son, Steven DeBoard of Indore; daughter, Janice DeBoard of Indore; brothers, Luther ?Buddy? Dec 21 2004   Erie Igo Bragg of Duck, WV passed away December 20, 2004. She was born May 22, 1918 in Groves Creek, Clay WV., to the late Woody and Nellie Igo.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Thomas L. Bragg.  Erie was a retired custodian from the Clay County Board of Education.   She is survived by her son Morgan Bragg and wife Vicki of Point Pleasant, WV, daughter Betty Thomas of Duck, WV., and Caregiver Linda Frame. Dec 12 2004  Charles Eugene Gray, child of God, loving Husband, Daddy, Grandpa, and Brother passed from the arms of his family to the arms of God on Sunday, December 12, 2004.  Charles was born on April 12, 1938, to the late Hanse and Alice Gray. He will live on through his wife, Ona Rose Gray, his daughters and son by marriage, Loretta Gray and Melinda and Kevin Isaacs, and his grandson, Charles Gray Isaacs, all of Maysel, WV. He is also survived by his brothers, Jim Bill, Lowell, and Woodrow all of Sycamore, WV., Donald of Clay, WV., and sister Carol Moore of Albion, NY. One sister, Ruby Gray, preceded him in death.  His Testimony of God?s grace will be an example for all of us as we continue  in this world. Dec 12 2004  William Clyde Pierson , 86 of Spencer WV, went to be with the lord on December 11, 2004, after a long illness.  He was born October 11, 1918 to Benjamin Franklin and Lydia Caroline Pierson.  Clyde was a welder for 35 years.  He is survived by his two children, son Mike Pierson of Clay, and daughter Barbara Skaer of Lakeland Florida. 6 grandchildren Jody Pierson of Maysel, Sissy Barker of Bomont, Jake Pierson of Clay, Mika McKee Pierson of Maysel, Kevin Skaer of Pennsylvania and Michael Skaer of Florida.  Sisters Thelma Hill of Hurricane, WV, Anna Walker of Charleston WV, and Virginia Whittier of Baltimore, MD.  Funeral Service will be Tuesday December 14, 2004 at 3:00 P.M.

Dec 12 2004  Oleta Dawson, 88, of Clay, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2004, surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Avis and Cecil Birthisel, of St. Albans, WV.
Oleta was born on August 8, 1916, in Clay County to the late Harvey and Tempest Hersman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, W. L. Dawson; sister and brother-in-law, Jeneta and Harold Smith; and brothers, Dencil and Dennis Hersman.  She was a retired custodian from the Clay County Board of Education.  Other survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Vera Boggs (Todd) of Nitro, and Janice Scott (Jarrell) of Winfield; sons and daughter-in-law, Wilbert Lee Dawson, Jr. (Donna) of Pliny, and Virgil Dawson of Nitro; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.  Funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Harry Dobbins officiating. Dec 8 2004  Freda Rushing on November 26 2004 at Lakeside Hosp Brockport NY. Mrs Rushing was born March 17 1935 in Clay County West Virginia, a daughter of the late John Edwar Drennen and Flisty Mae Brown Drennen. She had lived in the Albion NY area since 1967. She is survived by her children, grand children, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs Rushing was predeceased by her husband Robert G  Rushing, granddaughter Tina Marie Rushing, great grandson Timothy Rushing, brothers Jake Grose, Homer Drennen, Jernie Drennen; sisters Myrtle Brown, Leona Brown, Velma Williams and Bonnie Brown. Burial was Wednesday Dec 1 2004 at Mt Albion Cemetary. She will
be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
 

Dec 4 2004  Sharon Rose Stockwell Tanner, 59, of Duck, died December 3, 2004, at home.  She was born in Ivydale on October 7, 1945, a daughter of Rosalie Martha Stockwell of Nebo and the late Wilbur ?Bill? Woods. Dec 3 2004  Paul Thomas Foster, Sr., 66, of Ivydale, went to be with the Lord on December 1, 2004, after a short illness.  He was born on March 24, 1938, to William Thomas and Alice Foster.
He was a contract bus driver, and attended Advent Christian Church of O?Brion and Faith Baptist Church of Duck.  He was preceded in death by his father, and sister, Marilyn Foster.  Paul is survived by his wife, Anna Lea Foster of Ivydale; five children, Debra Mayes and husband, Glen, of Duck, Donna Carte of Ivydale, Norma Fields and husband, Brent, of Wallback, Paul T. Nov 23 2004 Oliver Irvin Smith, 77, of Queen Shoals, WV, went to meet the Heavenly Father he had served for many years. He departed this life November 22, 2004, after an extended illness.  Irvin left behind his wife of 41 years, Nell Belt Smith. Also surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Shane and Donna Boggs of Summerville, Sammy and Hazel Boggs of Queen Shoals, Mike and Kathy Boggs Clendenin, Mike (Bubbs) and Carrie Smith of Pierre Part, LA, Rocky and Sharon Boggs of Valley Fork, and Ed and Sandy Smith of Camp Creek, 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alpha Engle of Sissonville.  He was preceded in death by his son, David Smith; his parents, Garth and Minnie Smith; sisters, Alcha Samples and Waive Samples; and brothers, Wilbur (Buck) Smith, Robert (Bud) Smith and James (Eck) Smith.  Irvin was retired from Dupont Corp. Nov 19 2004 Dwayne Allen Friend, 40, of Akron, died suddenly on Wednesday, November 17, 2004. He was born on March 31, 1964, in Akron to Denver Paul and Arbutus Jewell Friend. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by two of his brothers, Jerry Lynn and Carlos Dean Friend.  He was a press operator for Injection Moulding, and attended Lakeview Lighthouse Church in    Akron. Nov 19  Carl Warren Baker, 70, of Clay County, WV, entered into rest on November 14, 2004. He had resided in Mingo County for the past eight years.  He was born on July 6, 1934, at Widen, WV, to the late Carl and Opal Baker.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Paul Baker. He was a retired coal miner, an veteran of the US Army, and of the Pentecostal Faith.  He is survived by his sons, Rodd Allen Baker of Richmond, VA, and Carl Robert Baker of Frederick, MD; brother, Gary Baker of Bentree; 4 grandchildren.  Carl will be remembered as a friend and neighbor to many. Nov 14 2004  Jackie Ray Ward, 46, of Lizemores, entered into rest on Thursday, November 11, 2004, at Montgomery General Hospital.  He was born on January 18, 1958, at Sutton to the late Noble and Darlene Ward. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, James D. Ward.

She was born on February 20, 1930. Mrs. Truman was preceded in death by her parents, James Everette and Gertie Vaughan; sister, Olive Shearer; and brothers, Eldis and Dallas Vaughan. Sept 14 2004   Nancy June Nelson, of Maysel, was taken from her loved ones on Monday, September 13, 2004, at 10:00 p.m. at CAMC-General Division as a result of a lethal wounding in her home earlier that day.    She was 49 years old, born on August 22, 1955. Randy will be remembered as a loving, terrific, great father and husband. He always had a smile on his face and a willingness in his heart. Randy was always ready to help someone who needed his help. If someone was having a bad day he could always put a smile on your face. And if you was a friend of Randy, you had a terrific friend. Randy loved his friends and loved spending time with them. Sept 11 2004    Capt. Benjamin G. Thomas, USMC, Retired    Born May 25, 1930 in Lizemores, WV, he was the son of the late William M. (Mac) Thomas and Mayflower Ramsey Thomas Rider. He lived his early life in Clay County WV and attended Clay County High School. He and his wife of 46 years, Marjorie A. Thomas ( Smith), were married April 4, 1958 in Clay.   He served in the United Sates Marine Corps for 30 years (23 years active duty and 7 years in the Fleet Reserve) from 1946 to 1977. He served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his career, he had overseas assignments in Europe aboard the USS Kearsarge on occupation duty in France, Italy, Africa, Algeria, Greece, and Libya. He had overseas assignments in Korea, Japan, and Okinawa. State side assignments were Parris Island, SC, Camp Lejeune, NC Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington, DC, Quantico, VA, El Toro, CA, and Marine Corps Supply Center, Albany GA.
     He enlisted as a Private, Advanced to the rank of Master Sergeant, and was appointed to 2nd Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. He retired with the rank of Captain.   He was the recipient of the following; Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Combat Action Medal, Navy Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal with 6 Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Medal with E Clasp, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Star, Korean Service Medal with 3 Stars, Vietnam Service  Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation. After USMC retirement, he worked for Earle M. Jorgensen Steel Company (retired) for 13 years and Alro Steel Company for 6 years. He retired in 1992.
    He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mountain Home, Semper Fidelis Masonic Lodge 680 of Jacksonville, NC, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Chicago, MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), Heroes of 76 (Masonic Officers), Hoevel-Barnett VFW Post 1341, ( Twin Lakes Marines) and Fraternal Order of Eagles Twin Lakes Aerie No.3183.   In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Benjamin Jr. of Kansas City, MO and Jeffrey and wife Angela of Saluda, NC; three grandchildren: Jayli, India, and Jericho Thomas; sisters: Patricia Igo and Jane Bird; brother: Billy Barker. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 1 brother.

She was member of the Lizemore Methodist Church and their choir director.  She was proceeded in death by her first husband Charles Roscoe Sanders, her second husband Iva Townsend, her parents Rev. Sept 2 2004   James "Graden" Pritt, 66, of Adonijah Community, Lizemores, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Montgomery General Hospital, Montgomery, after an extended illness.  Born Feb. 17, 1938, at Lizemores, he was the son of Macil Bird Pritt of Lizemores and the late Andy Pritt. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Norma Geraldine Walker; and a brother, Dencil Pritt.  He was a retired employee from Elkem Metals Company, Alloy, a member of Laurel Fork Missionary Baptist Church, Adonijah, and was an Air Force veteran.  Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his loving wife of 48 years, Joan Pritt; daughters, Teresa Morris and husband, Daniel, of Canvas, Norma Johnson and husband, Rick, of Lizemores, Drema Pritt and companion, Louis Spatafore, of Poca, Valerie Pritt of Fola; sons, Marlin Pritt and wife, Becky, of Clay, Rodney Pritt and wife, Peggy, of Charleston, Graden Pritt and wife, Stacy of Copperas Cove, Texas, Andrew Pritt and son, Garyn, of Valley Fork; sister, Karen Nichols and husband, Mike, of Lizemores; brothers, Elmer Pritt and wife, Elaine, of Fayetteville, Dexter Pritt of Lizemores; 22 grandchildren ad 13 great-grandchildren.  Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Laurel Fork Missionary Baptist Church, Adonijah, with the Rev. Aug 27 2004  Roy Junior McDaniel, 76, of Indore, entered into heaven on August 7, 2004.  He was born on March 12, 1928, to John Roy and Nettie H. McDaniel. In  addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his twin brother, John J. McDaniel, and sister, Mary M. Humphries. Survivors include a brother, Eugene O. McDaniel of Lizemores; children, Roberta L. McDaniel of Dunbar, sons, Roy J. McDaniel and John T. McDaniel, and granddaughter, Jennifer N. McDaniel, all of Elkview, WV.
He graduated from Gauley Bridge High School, the West Virginia Institute of Technology and The Charleston School of Commerce, majoring in business and accounting. He served in the United States Marines Corps during World War II in the Elite Marine Raiders Forces, 15th Naval District, Balboa, Canal Zone. He obtained the rank of Sergeant. He received the Marine Good Conduct, National Defense, and World War II Victory medals, being honorably discharged. He also served in the West Virginia Army National Guard Company A, 150th Armored Calvary, Falls View, WV, receiving numerous service medals and ribbons.  He received letters of appreciation from President Harry S. Truman for military service during World War II, and most recently from the office of the Governor of West Virginia for years of faithful and dedicated service he rendered to his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and the West Virginia Army National Guard.   President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush sent a letter of appreciation and congratulations on his 76th birthday from the White House.
He was retired from Monsato Chemical Company, Nitro, WV. He attended St. John the Evangelist Church in Summersville, WV.  Visitation will be held Thursday, September 2, 2004, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay. July 29 2004   Samples, Maycle Marie entered into rest with  the Lord on Wednesday,July 28, 2004 , at her home  after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Spencer G. and Elizabeth Jane Eagle. She was the wife of the late Eugene G. Samples of Procious, WV.She was the mother of eight  children: Kenneth (Hook) Samples, deceased, Steve  Samples of Pensacola FL,Garland Samples of Bickmore WV, Randy Samples of Wallback,WV , Thelma J. Rhodes of Clendenin WV, Rev. Wilma Dobbins of Montgomery, WV, Shelly Edwards of Procious WV, and Lisa Lewis of Clay WV. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 13 step- grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great grandchildren. All of whom she was affectionately known as ?Big Grandma?. July 14 2004 Reba M. Legg, 81, of Indore, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at CAMC-Memorial Division.   She was born on February 6, 1923, in Fola, WV, to the late Jesse and Della Fitzwater. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. July 10 2004   Hugh Hyer Boggs, Jr., 83, of Procious, entered into rest Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale, following a long illness with cancer.  He was born at Wallback, WV, on October 13, 1920, oldest son of Hugh H. Boggs, Sr., and Carrie Boggs. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Mae Woodall on April 1, 1956 and his step-son, Robert ?Wag? Allen Gandee on November 10, 1996.  He was a graduate from Spencer High School in 1938, received an AB Degree from Glenville State College in 1947, and a Master?s Degree from Marshall University in 1958 in elementary education. He retired from teaching as an elementary teacher, principal, and bus transportation director with 50 years of service in Roane and Clay Counties. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. He held life membership in the VFW Post 4419 in Clay, American Legion Post 21 of Spencer, and in WVEA. He had served in Headstart Programs, sports activities for the youth and was a member of Burke M.E. Church of Procious.
      Surviving are his wife, Virginia Samples Gandee Boggs; son, Hugh III and wife, Barbara, of Great Falls, VA; daughter, Debra Anne Saunders and husband, John, of Leesburg, VA; brothers, Fred Boggs of Charleston and Gail Boggs of Toronto, OH; sisters, Jean Boggs of Ivydale, Janet Crisco of Charleston; grandchildren, Peter, Michael and Christin Boggs of Great Falls, VA, Laura Burhenn of Washington, DC; step-grandchildren, Rob Busser of McLean, VA, and Karmin Gandee Richmond, Tabitha Gandee and Troy Gandee, all of Princeton; step-great-grandchildren, Katy, David, Stephen and Jacob Busser of McLean, VA, Jenna Grace Gilmore and Tyler Richmond of Princeton, WV.    Funeral service will be l pm Monday, July 12, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Dewey Tanner officiating. June 22 2004    Rose Louise Daniels, 90, of Albion, NY, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, following a long illness.  She was born September 6, 1913, in West Virginia to the late Richard Gibson and Rosetta Humphrey Gibson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Everett, in 1991, her grandson, Roy Daniels, Jr., and her great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Morton.
She had lived in the Albion area for most of her life. She attended Ashwood Wesleyan Church in Lyndonville.  Suvivors include her children, Rosalee (Frank) Utarro of Rochester, Danny Daniels of Albion, Charles (Muriel) Daniels of Albion, Roy (Vera Mae) Daniels of Kent, Betty (Ernest) Loss of Albion, Raymont (Marie) Daniels of Waterport and Mary (Bobby) Mullins of Albion; her sisters, Martilla and Helen; 29 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Graveside funeral service will be 4 pm Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore, with Minister John Osborne officiating. June 18 2004   Mrs. Antoinette M. "Moose Bear" "Moose" Quarequio of St. Albans, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004.  She was a housewife.  Survivors include her husband, Dr. Frank Franchesco Quarequio of St. Albans; son,Daniel Anthony Quarequio of St. Albans; sister, Maria Fatigati of Italy; nephew, George Fatigati, niece, Ida Fatigati; and many cousins in Italy.
She was loved immensely by her husband and son, who are broken hearted, and by everyone from St.

June 12 2004   Jackie Holland White, 64, of Clay, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at  CAMC -Memorial Division.  He was born on November 13, 1939, in Clay County to the late Okey and Mary Ann White. He was born on November 13, 1921, in Clay County to the late George Harold and Mary Ellen Nottingham Neal. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Romie W. Elderbrandt, and his ex-wife, Emogene Neal.   He was a retired coal miner and of the Pentecostal faith.

He was born October 20,1957 in Sutton WV. He was the son of the late Doyle and Trecia Lewis.  He was owner and operator of Cecil Lewis Pluming since 1982. May 13 2004    Ronald Lee Summers 1948-2004, 55, a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 19, 2004, in Valley Fork, WV.  Ronald was the tenth child born to Patrick and Della Mae Summers on June 17, 1948, in Charleston, WV. He graduated from Clay County High School, WV, in 1967, and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968-1970. He and Marie Alice Mills were Married January 1, 1971, and they had two children, Annette Marie, born in 1972, and Ronald Keith, born in 1974, both in Akron Ohio. He lived most of his life in Ohio, and formerly of Hartville, he recently moved back to Ovapa, WV., after retiring from American Steel Foundries in Alliance, Ohio. He was close to his family and will be missed by all who loved him.  Ronald is preceded in death by his parents and two of his brothers, Oral and Arthur Allan. He is survived by his daughter, Annette Summers Engel, and son-in-law, Scott Allen Engel, of Austin, TX; his son, Keith, and daughter-in-law, Tracy Allyson Sarratt Summers, and his precious granddaughter Allyson Noel Summers, of Malvern, Ohio; his brothers, Arnold (Bud) Summers of Akron, Delbert Summers of Ivydale, WV, Elbert Summers of Middlebranch, Ohio, and James Summers of Ovapa; his sisters. May 13 2004  Virginia Hess Cottrell, 79, of Wallback, died May 11, 2004, at her home after an extended illness.   She was born on June 22, 1924 to Ottie and Hazel Hess. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Dow Cottrell, and her brother, Raymond Hess.

May 6 2004     Hysel Carris Workman, 68, of Ivydale, died May 5, 2004, at the VA Medical Center, Clarksburg, WV.  He was born on October 3, 1935, to Alton and Runa Mae Workman. May 3 2004    Ruby Hanshaw, 81, of West Salem, OH, formerly of  Chloe, WV, and Creston, OH, died April 26, 2004, at her home following a one-month illness.  She was born May 7, 1922, in Leatherwood, daughter of the late John and Josie Fitzwater. May 3 2004     Darrell R. Wagner, of Indore, graduated to heaven on Sunday, April 25,2004, surrounded by his loved ones.  Darrell was born on May 1, 1928, to William and Ida Wagner of Clay County. He is survived by his wife, Reba E. Wagner of Indore; brother, Handsford Reed of Cleveland, OH; daughters, Rita Fernatt of Clendenin, Julie Adkins and Kay Uridel, both of Cleveland, OH; step-daughters, Eva June Tanner, Marjie Wyant, and Camilla Neal, all of Indore; son, Donald Wagner of Cleveland, OH; step-sons, Lloyd Parcell, George Parcell, and David Parcell, all of Indore; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.   Darrell attended the Christian Church of Lizemores. April 26 2004  Kevin E. Whitteker,  Lancaster, California, age 27, was killed on Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004, on the I-5 Southbound  Interstate in Los Angeles County, California,  by a drunk driver in a head on collision.  He was a fine example to all of what a good person should be.  He made the commitment to serve his country and even in his civilian employment, manned a post on the front
lines, by becoming part of the Homeland Security Team, trained to keep our country safe.  He was kind, loving and generous to all he knew.  He always had a smile on his face and he was dedicated to his family.  He joined the Army when  he graduated from high school, and he served his country in Germany, Kosovo and Iraq and was currently stationed in California with the Army National Guard. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and the European Commendation Medal.
     Kevin married his high school sweetheart and devoted wife, Cathy, and he leaves behindtwo children, Karrissa Charlene, age 3 and Alexis Jaimie, age 1. He was preceded in death by his mother,
Charlene J. Whitteker; and maternal grandparents.   He is survived by his loving father and mother
William ?Bill? Whitteker and Margaret ?Kate? Whitteker of Amma; brothers Michael and wife Tara of Jesup, Georgia; Patrick of Nebraska; Austin and Jason at home and sisters, Catherine,  Bridgett and Rachael all at home, grandparents, Loyd and Joyce Whitteker of Olympia, Washington; and Jane Reed of Amma.
   Kevin worked hard to make a good life for himself and his family.  He mentored young people and loved working on computers.  He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The service was conducted in Lancaster, California on Saturday, April 17, 2004 and he was laid to rest in a Veteran?s Memorial Wall.  His father, a Vietnam Veteran and former  Marine, led Kevin?s National Guard Unit
as the Honor Guard, at the traditional final salute.
 

April 16 2004   Henry L.White 70, of Clay, WV, died April 13, 2004 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was a proud Christian and a member of Laurel Fork Missionary Baptist Church, Adonijah, WV. He was retired from CSX Railroad with 35 years of service.  Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Okey and Mary Ann White, and a brother, Okey Ray White.  Surviving relatives include his wife of 33 years, Gloria Jean White; daughters,Jacki Morton and husband, Trent, of Lizemores, and Rose Ann Nottingham, and husband, Bradford, of Bickmore. He leaves behind three grandchildren that he cherished with all his heart,Emily Ann and Benjamin Cade Morton and Owen Henry Nottingham. He also leaves behind two special nieces, Lisa Woods and Michelle Pritt, both of Clay. Additional surviving relatives include sisters, Alice White and Eva Hanshaw, both of Clay, and half-sister "Tootie" Dulaney of Bentree; brothers, Jack White and William "Snapper" Johnson, both of Clay, and half-brother, Darrell Keener of Clay.   Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home in Clay with the Reverend Jadie Morris Officiating. April 15 2004  Cathy Ann Smith 47, of Charleston died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in CAMC-Memorial Division.  She was born on April 3, 1957, in Clay County to CLinton C. and Pauline Grose.  She was a homemaker, a former nursing home worker for Valley Nursing Home, Blue Creek, and member of Maysel Freewill Baptist Church.  She is survived by her husband,Tommy W. April 15 2004  Nola Frame, 83, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday April 11, 2004.  She died about 5:00am at home with her daughter, Connie Rush, and her husband, Ron of Akron, Ohio.  Nola was born in Ivydale WV, on September 20, 1920, and retired from Louisiana Pacific Corp. in Norton, Ohio after 25 years of service.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster Frame, and her parents Dwight and Lillie Adams; brother, Ronzel Adams; and sister Norma Blake.  She is survived by her son, Verlin Frame and his wife,Pat,of Akron; daughters, Karen Perry and husband, Charles, of Elkhart IN, Connie Rush and husband, Ron of Akron, OH; and brother Torrett Adams and wife, Irene, of Ivydale; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  Funeral service will be 11am on Friday, April 16,2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home,Clay. April 8 2004    Christopher Aaron Hackney, 22, of Bickmore, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 6,2004. April 6 2004    Jo Retta Wyatt, 70, of Clay, died Saturday, April 3, 2004.  She was born on Dec. 13, 1933, in Raleigh County to the late Russell and Irene Berry.  She was a hairdresser.  She is survived by her daughter, Yvonna Brown of Clay.

April 1 2004    Kathryn Dawn Adkins, 24, and her daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Adkins, 3, of Maysel died March 30, 2004, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 4, Maysel. Kathryn was born Aug. 5, 1979, in Charleston, daughter of Danny and Dawn Fitzwater of Maysel.  She was a graduate of Clay County High School, a legal assistant for Bowles, Rice, McDavid, Graff and Love and a member of Fairview Baptist Temple.  In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Brien Adkins of Maysel; sisters, Shawna Ann Taylor and husband, Juston, and Angela Brooke Fitzwater and fiancé, Gregory Brown, all of Maysel; sister-in-law, Amy Legg of Dog Run; brother-in-law, Kevin Adkins of Dog Run; mother- and father-in-law, Donvil and Dorma Adkins of Dog Run; paternal grandparents, Lambert and Wilma Fitzwater of Lizemores; maternal stepgrandfather, Don Davisson of Orrville, Ohio; nieces, Kaitlyn Legg, Tasha Adkins, Kelsie Adkins and Kayla Adkins; and nephews, Jared Legg and Aiden Joel Taylor.  Rachel was born Nov. 20, 2000. March 26 2004   Clayton Ramsey, 76, a resident of Summersville Nursing Home, formerly of Harrison, died Friday, March 26, in Summersville Memorial Hospital's Long-Term Care Unit.   He was born on April 5, 1927, in Clay County to Gustie Mae Ramsey. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters, and a cousin, Bessie Canfield.  He was a farm hand on Okey Davis Egg Farm, Maysel, and a member of the Flat Fork Church, Harrison.
He is survived by his brothers, Arthur Frame of Shelby, OH, and Herlman Frame of Fredericktown, OH; sister, Claudette Lucas of Akron, OH; and a cousin, Pearl Fitzwater of Harrison.   Funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Lonnie Ramsey officiating. March 17 2004  Phillip Byron White, 72, of Bomont, died March 15, 2004, of injuries received in a tractor accident.
He was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Odessa, sone of the late Webster Byron and Retta White. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Dollie E. White; son, Phillip Daniel White; daughter, Deborah Louise White; brother, Chester C. White; and stepsons, Benjamin W. and John Marshall Short.  He was a retired machinist from Ridge Tool Company, Elyria, OH, a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War era, a member of Bethel Community Church, VFW Post 8516, American Legion Post 61, and the Marine Corps League Herbert J. Thomas Detachment 947.  He is survived by his wife, Ruth White of Bomont; daughters, Terri Lynn Rupel of Elyria, Freda Jane White of Oberlin, OH, Helen Lorain Coffman of Grafton, OH, and Rose Ellen White of Elyria; stepdaughters, Betty G. Casto of Clendenin, Elizabeth R. Taylor of Bomont, Rebecca J. Casto of Clendenin, and Ruth V. March 11 2004    Emma Jean Vannoy, 77, died March 5, 2004, at Hospice Care Center.  She was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Ansted, WV, to Wallace Wyatt and Posie E. Rhule Brown. She was a resident of Doylestown, OH, for four months, formerly of Clay, WV, where she was a member of Maysel Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Worthy D. Vannoy; two brothers, and four sisters.  She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Pete) Mitchell of Doylestown; step-son, C. March 10 2004    James Carlos "Jim" Davis, 62, of Wallback, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at home. He was born on April 18, 1941, in Ohley to the late Silas and Lenna Davis.  He was a retired foreman from the West Virginia Department of Highways, and was a member and deacon of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Garnet Davis of Wallback; sons, Jeff Davis of Wallback, and Tim, and his wife, Amy, of Ivydale; brother, Dennis Davis of Yulee, FL; sisters, Ruth Chapman of Seville, OH, Lucy McKinney of Yulee, Mary Nottingham of Creston, OH, and Margaret Adams of Ivydale, 9 grandchildren.  Funeral service will be 1 pm on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Don Dobbins officiating. March 8 2004  Freda Delores Walker Pierson, 83, of Clay, died Saturday, March 6, 2004 at CAMC-Memorial Division, Charleston.  She was born Aug. 27, 1920, to the late John Milton and Mary Ann Legg Walker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack "Bub" Pierson and 10 brothers and sisters.  She was a retired teller from the Clay County Bank with more than 30 years of service. She attended Lizemores United Methodist Church.  She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Katherine Walker of Scott Depot; granddaughter, Susan Marie Walker   of Charleston; brother, Clifton "Deacon" Walker of St. Albans; stepchildren, Elva Vaughan of Clay, Margaret Ramsey of Alum Creek, Joan Thompson of Elyria, OH, and J. C. Pierson of Maysel; several step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.

March 6 2004   Walter O. Taylor, 96, of Bickmore, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Montgomery General Hospital.  He was born on Dec. 31, 1907, at Gilboa, Nicholas County, to the late John Cypres and Elkanie Williams Taylor.  He was a retired coal miner, and was a member of Twenty Mile Baptist Church.  He is survived by three sons, Leon and Garland Taylor, both of Bickmore, and Escar Taylor of Lizemores; four daughters, Arbutus Osborne of Bickmore, Arletta King of Pt. Pleasant, Shirley Groves of Craigsville, and Dianna Lively of Dog Run; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren,   and great-great-grandchildren.   Funeral service will be 11 am Monday, March 8, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Thomas Holt officiating. March 5 2004  Rosa Rogers 92, of Rittman, Oh, formerly of Nebo, Clay County, WV, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, in Rittman after a long illness.  She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Rogers, daughter, Mary, and son, John. March 5 2004   Ida M. Reed Conley, 87, of Clay, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, in Montgomery General Elderly Care.  She was born on May 1, 1916, at Maysel to the late Jeremiah and Louisa Conley Reed. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, George B. "Ted" Reed.  She was a retired cook for Young's Diner, attended Jubilee Mountain Church, and was a Pentecostal by faith.  Survivors include her grandchildren, Wadsworth "Buck" Reed of New Castle, DE, Rena Hubbard of Clay, Caramae Sheldon of Sewell, NJ, and Clorinda Reed of Elkview; 8 great-grandchildren.

March 1 2004     Maude Muller Burdette, 84, of Indore, WV, died at home Feb. 27, 2004. She was born Feb. 15, 1920, at Indore, to the late John Emerson and Kezia Zipporah Holcomb Rogers. She was a faithful member of the Lizemore Church of the Nazarene, where she served for many yeas as the Sunday school secretary. Feb 27 2004   Maysel Marie Blankenship, 70, of Maysel, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at CAMC-General Divison.  She was born on December 20, 1933, in Clay, WV, to the late Robert Kirby and Ida Jane Dawson Chapman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters.  She was a homemaker and a retired self-employed caregiver. Feb 26 2004  Mildred Dobbins, 81, of Burleson, TX, formerly of Clay County, was called home to Heaven on Sunday, February 22, 2004, at a local hospice house in Burleson.  She was born March 18, 1922, in Clay, West Virginia, the daughter of James Arthur Holcomb, Jr., and Phoebe Dovie Jones Holcomb. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Tommy Asseff, and her second husband, Albert Dobbins.  Mrs. Dobbins was a lifelong resident of Clay, and for 40 years owned and operated Friendly Department Store in Clay with her first husband, Tommy Asseff. She was a member of Clay United Methodist Church and a member of the church choir. Other membersips included the Order of The Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge.  She is survived by sons, Taman Hall of North Hollywood, CA, David Asseff and wife, Kathy, of Charleston, and George Asseff of Clay; daughters, Phoebe Ramsey of Kent, OH, and Mary Witty and husband, Fred, of Burleston; brother, Worder Holcomb of Lizemores; sister, Rose King of Drennen, WV; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several special nieces and nephews.  Funeral service will be 2 pm on Friday, February 27, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay. Feb 24 2004   Lewis McLaughlin, 73, of Charleston, formerly of Clay, died Monday, February 23, 2004,at  CAMC-Memorial Hospital.  Lewis was a Clay County educator and administrator for more than 30 years. He was a member of Maysel Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie McLaughlin.  Surviving Lewis are his wife, Virginia McLaughlin; daughter Lynn Macvaugh and husband, David, of Charlotte, NC; son, Stephen McLaughlin and wife, Nancy, of Charlotte; son, Michael McLaughlin of Charleston; sister, Patsy Friend Paxton of Pawley's Island, SC; grandchildren, Stephen, Tyler, Sara, Zachary, Bo, and Julie; nephew, Greg Paxton of Pawley's Island, SC; niece, Peggy Malutinok of Boston, Mass; and many loving cousins.  Funeral service will be 2 pm Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Maysel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Feb 18 2004   Louis (L.P.) Means, 73, of Ivydale, joined his family in Heaven on Monday, February 16, 2004.
He was born in Charleston to Rufus G. and Norma Bailey Means on April 24, 1930.  He was retired from the U. S. Air Force and the Kanawha County Board of Education. He was a member of the Rush Fork Community Church. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Dorothy Louise Means, and a son, Gary Lee Means. Surviving are his wife: Mary Douglas Means of Ivydale; two sons, Robert Gene Means of Homestead, FL, and Tony Steven Means of Norfolk, VA; two daughters, Deborah Ann Frazier of Spanish Fork, UT, and Terry Lynn Means of Hurricane; stepson, Jeremy Ray Gardner of Wiscassette, ME; stepdaughter, Mary Lucinda Curry of Duck; seven grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; a niece, Diana Johnson of Grand Rapids, KS, and a nephew, David Blankenship of Charleston.

Feb 16 2004    Mr. James Wilson Reed, Sr. of Clay, WV died at his home in Charleston, WV on February 15, 2004, following a long illness. He was 76 years old. James was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Ray Reed and Lulu Wilson Reed, and two of his sons, Edward Clayton Reed and Thomas Hansford Reed. James Reed graduated from high school from Greenbrier Military School and later obtained a bachelors degree from West Virginia University. In 1952 he graduated from the College of Law at West Virginia University. Later that year James was elected as Prosecuting Attorney of Clay County, WV. James served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He was stationed at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernadino, CA. From San Bernadino he returned to Clay to serve three additional terms as Prosecuting Attorney. He Practiced law in Clay for over fifty years where he was a member of the West Virginia State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Clay County Bar Association, the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity. James was active in the oil and gas business throughout his career. James Reed was a member of the Clay United Methodist Church for 61 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason from Clay County Lodge No. 97 and belonged to the Scottish Rites. James was an avid fisherman all of his life and an ardent student of history. To him Elk River was a source of spiritual inspiration and inexhaustible beauty. For James Clay County was a sacred place and its people the finest to be found anywhere. All who knew James well found him to be warm, friendly, kind, personable and of a generous spirit. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
     James Reed is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Helen Black Reed, and his sister, Mary Reed Ward of Clay, WV. Also surviving him are his son, Dr. Charles David Reed of Palm City, FL and his son and daughter-in-law, James Wilson Reed, Jr. and Candace Eskew Reed of Clay, WV. Grandchildren are Erin Melissa Reed, Sarah Reed Johnson, James Wilson Reed, III, Brian Michael Reed, Andrew Willaim Reed, Eric Eskew Reed, Jenifer Helen Reed, and Austin Hansford Reed. Mr Reed is survived by one great grandson, Michael Anthony Edward Johnson. Also Surviving to mourn his passing are his daughter-In-Law, Melody Boggs Reed of Ivydale, WV and his brother-In-Law, David R, Black and wife, Kathleen on Minnetonka, MN.   Visitation will be 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, February 19, 2004 at the Carl Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, Clay, WV. Feb 13 2004    Noble Ray Pettit, 74, died February 11, 2004, at home after a long illness. He was born July 17, 1929 in Clay County to the late Shirley and Ona Pettit. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his   brother, Lawrence (Hink) Pettit.   He was retired from General Motors, Lordstown, Ohio, after 22 years of service. He was an Army Veteran, having served in the US Army, 35th Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star. Jan 23 2004  Delmer Daubenspeck July 9, 1931-January 8, 2004   Delmer was born July 9, 1931 in Clay County, West Virginia and he passed away on January 8, 2004 in Delano, California. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Mary Daubenspeck; and he is survived by his daughters, Judith, Sandra and Cynthia Daubenspeck; and daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Ron Goldsberry; granddaughter, Teresa Daubenspeck; 5 great grandchildren; sister-in-law and her husband, Linda and Don Wyatt; and numerous other family members and friends. Delmer served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1958, during the Korean Conflict. Delmer was a loving and caring, husband, father and grandfather who was loved by all that knew him and he will be deeply missed

Jan 15 2004  Earl D. Keen 75 of Akron, Oh passed away Wednesday January 14, 2004 following a long illness.  Born in Newton, (Roane County), WV, he was a son of the late Earl and Claudine Fields Keen.  A Baptist by faith, Earl was a member of the Newton Baptist Church.  He was enjoying his retirement from Teamsters Local 24, as he had been a driver for Roadway and Jones Motor Freight and was currently serving as President of the Civitan Club in Barberton, OH.  An accomplished country and bluegrass musician, Earl played several instruments and was a talented singer.  He was also a prankster and expert mimic who enjoyed ?fooling? his family and friends with his many voices.  Earl loved entertaining and preparing his famous recipes for anyone who happened by at mealtime.   He is preceded in death by one sister Almeta (Mrs. Daniel) Looney of Newton, WV.  Surviving are his longtime companion LuLu McClung of Manchester, OH, and loving wife of 23 years Lorena Sears Keen and Daughter Elizabeth and Son Earl Mitchell Keen, and Daughter Robin Moran of Nashville, TN, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter, sisters Ruth Runyon of Newton, Jackie Phillips of Virginia Beach, VA, Brenda King of Valley Fork, brothers Clifford of Barberton, OH, Willard of Cleveland, OH, and Neil ?Bud? Jan 13 2004   Ralph Ray Rogers, 73, of Ovapa, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at CAMC-General Division.  He was born on March 6, 1930, at Hartland, Clay County, to the late Patrick and Tilda Rogers.  He was retired from Ford Motor Company as a stamper, an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of Rogers Fork Baptist Church, and a member of Clay VFW Post 4419.  He is survived by his wife, Pat Rogers of Ovapa; sons, Terry Ray Rogers of Ovapa, and Larry Allan and Tracy Rogers of Ovapa; brothers, Andy Rogers of Wallback, Harley Rogers of Newton, and Romie Rogers of Collins, OH; sister, Nell Rogers of Wooster, OH; grandchildren, Katrina Nicholson (Aric), Cory Rogers, and Becca Rogers; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Garten, Bryonna Cantrell and Arica Nicholson.  Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, January 16, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Ministers Paul Parsons and Teddy Legg officiating. Burial will follow in the Rogers Cemetery, Ovapa, with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post 4419.

Jan 12 2004   Mr. Gary "Brownie" Thomas, 69, of Duck, died, Sunday, January 11, 2004 at CAMC Memorial Division. He was born December 7, 1934 to the late Albert and Icie Hanshaw Thomas. He was a retired Truck Driver for the West Virginia Department of Highways.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Five Brothers, and Two Sisters.

Jan 10, 2004  Lenora "Chub" J. Gray, 67, of Clay died January 9, 2004, at home.  She was born on December 25, 1936, to the late William and Mamie Ellen Brooks.  She was retired from the Department of Health and Human Services with over 30 years of service. She also worked for the West Virginia Children's Home Society and Shawnee Hills. She was a member of the Clay First Baptist Church.  Survivors include her husband, Junior Gray of Clay; sons, Steven L. Gray of Maysel and Russell S. Gray of Two Run, Clay; brothers, Bobby Brooks of Chico, CA, and Jack Brooks of Glendale, WV; siser, Lahoma Ann Love of Clay; 5 grandchildren, l great-grandchild.  Funeral service will be 11 am on Monday, January 12, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Ministers Ralph Davis and Rocky Osborne officiating. Jan 8 2004  Margaret L. Laxton, 72, of Ivydale, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at her home.
She was born on March 29, 1931, to the late Kenny and Jane Duncan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Romas J. Laxton. She was a homemaker.  Survivors include her sons, Ernest and Thomas Laxton of Duck, and Rodney Laxton of Clay; daughters, Sandra Gill of Enoch, Eva Altizer of London, KY, Gloria Sears of Duck, Rita Payne of Berea, KY, Teresa Drake of Ivydale, and Nancy Griffith of Charleston, SC; brother, Alva Duncan of Coalwood, WV; sisters, Catherine Wilkinson of Dunbar and Emma Lusk of St. Albans; 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 pm on Saturday, January 10, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Darius Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Dundon Cemetery, Clay.

Jan 3 2004  Edith Verna Pringle, 79, of Omar, formerly of Clay County, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Logan Regional Medical Center.  She was born on April 29, 1924, in Cabin Creek to the late Nathan and Sadie Eagle. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Armond Roland Pringle.  She was a housewife and mother, and a Baptist by faith.  Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, William Kenneth and Dana Pringle, Denny Allen and Wilma Pringle, and John Dale Pringle, all of Ivydale; daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Jane and Carl Robinette of Hamlet, NC, Velma June and Robert Estrathers of Omar, and Al and Val Holcomb of Clay; brothers, Edmond Eagle of Ivydale, Dayton Eagle of Texas, Everett Eagle of Morgantown, and Dorsel Eagle of Valley City, OH; sisters, Lena Smith of Dunbar, Tressie Grose of Florida, Faye Tanner of Clay, Betty Deems of Newton, and Nancy Smith of Akron, OH; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren.  Funeral service will be 10 am on Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Pastor C. Jan 3 2004   Robert L. Clifford, 77, of Belleville, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale. He was born on August 10, 1926, to the late Daniel Clifford and Elsie Cook Clifford.
He was a self-employed truck driver, an Army Veteran of World War II, and a Presbyterian by faith.  Survivors include his wife, Naomi Paxton Clifford of Belleville; sons, Christopher P. Adkins of Palmyra, IN, Eugene Adkins of Belleville, and Robert Clifford, Jr., of PA; daughter, Rebecca Clifford of VA; 9 grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay. Burial will follow in the Paxton Cemetery, Hansford Fork. There will be no visitation.
 

Jan 2 2004 Rosie Marie Workman, 74, of Moultonboro, NH, formerly of Clay County, WV, died December 29, 2003.  She was born on March 19, 1929, in Richmond, VA, to the late Richmond and Martha Nichols.  She is survived by her son, Bobby Stone of Clay; step-son, Michael Hanshaw of Wallback; daughters, Donna Pringle of Wallback, Myrtle Williams of Angier, NC, Phyllis Workman of Clay, Joyce Fernald of Kingsland, GA, Patricia Tgibedes of Mountonboro, NH, Sylvia Lowe of Angier, and Darlene Daniels of Bickmore; brothers, Harold Nichols of New York, and Ernest Nichols of Wallback; 29 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.  Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Bill Adkins officiating.
