Dec 24 2003 Linda L. Cunningham, 59, of Mercer, PA formerly
of Duck, WV, died unexpectedly, Friday, December 19, 2003 of a cerebral
aneurysm in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born May 17,
1944 in Ivydale, WV to the late Russell G. and Orva M. Greathouse Boggs.
She was a 1961 graduate of Clay County High School. She was a homemaker
and a Protestant by faith. She liked to play bingo and loved to spend time
with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed helping
with childrens charities, and loved helping others. Her final gift wwas
being an organ donor to the Center of Organ Recovery and Education of Pittsburgh.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth
Allan and Roy Kevin Cunningham; brother, Benny Boggs. She is survived

Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at the Walton Inn, Walton. She was
born on April 26, 1913, to the late Abner Jehue and Alice Dodd Samples.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband,
Tommy. She was a member of Liberty Advent Christian Church, Procious,
Senior Citizens Club, Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Clay County Women's Club, and
Widow's Club. Survivors include her sons, Garrett D. Samples of Clendenin

Dec 19 2003 Wilbur O. Lanham, 87, of Clay, died Wednesday,
December 17, 2003, at CAMC -General Division. He was born on May
24, 1916, in Clay County to the late Oley and Delta Lanham. In addition
to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Jane, and his
brother, Jack. He was a retired track maintenance employee from Buffalo
Creek and Gauley Railroad with 13 years service, from B & O Railroad
with 29 years service, and was a coal miner, formerly ran motor at Pisgah.
He is survived by his sons, James, Ronald, and Gary, all of Cleveland;
daughter, Carol Rose of Brunswick, OH; sister-in-law, Charlotte Susan Wolfe
of Ripley; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren.

10, 2003, of a sudden illness.
He was born on May 24, 1924, in Clay, to the late John and Annie Brown.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He is survived by his loving

wife, Mary Rose, and his brothers, Donald and Bobby. He was a retired coal
miner from Union Carbide and attended Laurel Fork Missionary Baptist Church.

Nov 24 2003 Marvil Dallas Underwood, 85, of Ivydale,
died Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 21, 1918, at Tioga, Nicholas County, to the late Elza
and Lily Elizabeth Huggard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded
in death by his wife, Ina Gladys Underwood, three brothers, and one sister.
He was a self-employed mechanic.

She was born on November 12, 1900, at Dille, Clay County, to the late
Wyant and Martha Morris. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded
in death by her husband, James (J. J.) Holcomb and three sons, Leon, Calvin,
and Dana Holcomb. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Missionary

a long illness. She was born on Nov. 21,1927, at Birch River, W.Va.,
the daughter of the late George Martin and Leola Deloris Boggs Dodrill.
She was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, at Strange
Creek, where she taught the Adult Sunday School Class for 20 years. Mrs.
Frame was a homemaker. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Jack
Dodrill, and George Dodrill; and sisters, Gladys White, Lee Dodrill, and
Louise Rolston. Mrs. Frame is survived by her husband, Bill Frame;

October 15, 2003, at CAMC-Memorial Division. He was born on April
2, 1935, to the late Ralph and Ruby Legg Hubbard. He was a factory worker

Oct 7 2003 Benjamin Clarence Cottrell, 62, of Wallback,
died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at Montgomery General Hospital. He
was born on December 26, 1940, in Calhoun County to the late James and
Vesta McLaughlin Cottrell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded
in death by his wife, Wavalene Cottrell, and a son, Brian "Oodie" Cotrell.
He was an equipment operator for Elkem Metals, Alloy. Survivors include

Thursday, October 2, 2003, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. She was
born in Enoch on December 11, 1914, to the late Alan and Nellie Kyle Rhodes.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband,
Robert L. Thompson, whom she married on October 5, 1932; two sons, Joey
Thompson and Robert (Buddy) Thompson, Jr; eight grandchildren, Roger and

Oct 4 2003 Nellie Mae Moore Stephenson, 85, of Clay, went to
be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 2, 2003, at Cedar Grove
Nursing Home in Parkersburg, WV. She was born in Braxton County on
December 10, 1917, to the late Emery and Betty Burroughs. In addition to
her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Ollin
C. "Brownie" Moore in 1979, her second husband, B. H. "Hub" Stephenson
in 1996, and a sister, Ruby Morris in 2002. She retired in 1986 from Elk
Power Company, was a charter member of Clay Community Church, and was president
and an active member in numerous community clubs. She is survived
by her daughter, Betty Ann Moore Husk of Parkersburg; two sons, Ollin C.
Moore II of Lawrenceville, GA, and Jonny D. Moore of Jacksonville, FL;
a very special niece, Margaret Stapleton of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers,

of Harrison Road, Clay. Died Sunday, August 31, 2003 at home following
a long battle with Cardiac and other health issues. He was born August
20, 1929 to the late Margaret May (Hamrick) Hall and Edward Franklin Hall.
Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maredith Margaret (Wood)
Hall. They were married in Dille, WV on August 4, 1951. He worked in the
Widen and Nicholas County Mines as a coal miner, where he became disabled
in the early 1960's. He had also worked in Swandale, WV at the Old Sawmill,
and a member of the Powells Mountain Baptist Church. In addition

He was born on April 17, 1923, in Putnam County to James Jennings Holcomb

wife, Betty Holcomb. He was a retired miner from Majestic Coal Company

Aug 20 2003 Delmer Ray Shamblin, Sr., 64, of
Procious, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at his son's residence at
Procious. He was born on August 19, 1938, in Clay County to the late
William and Sara Shamblin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded
in death by his brothers, Virgil "Bud" and Perry Shamblin. He was
employed as a truck driver for Smith Transfer and TNT Holland for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Holly Stover and Shirley Stover Hill. He was raised in Cedar Grove, where he was a member of the Cedar Grove and Glasgow volunteer fire departments. He received a B.S. degree in mathematics from West Virginia Tech and master's degrees in mathematics and educational administration from West Virginia University. He was a life member of Aplha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. He was retired from Kanawha County Schools with 30 years of service, having taught mathematics at Sissonville, Herbert Hoover and Capital high schools. He held various coaching positions at Sissonville and Herbert Hoover. His hobbies were collecting Eisenhower campaign memorabilia, Dodger baseball cards and Indian artifacts, fishing, hunting, and traveling in the USA. Most importantly, he was a Christian. Ivydale, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at Chesterwood Nursing Home, West
Chester, OH. She was born in Webster Springs, WV, on December 7,
1909, to the late Edward Hamrick and Eudora Bledsoe Hamrick. In addition
to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lee
Douglas, and her sister, Madis Mollohan. She was a retired cook from
the Meigs Local County Schools, Pomeroy, OH. Survivors include her
daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Paul Daggett of Fairfield, OH; grandchildren,
Sarah Morrison of Columbus, OH, and Mark Daggett of Wilmington, Delaware;
brother, Roy Hamrick of Palm Beach, FL; sister, Betty Friend of Ivydale.

July 9 2003 Salena Marie
Leiner,92,died July 6, 2003, in Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston,
WV.
She was born December 10, 1910, in Dimple, WV,
and was the first of twelve children of Anon and Allie Steorts. She was
raised in Clay County, WV. "Happy" lived a rich and prosperous and giving
life, always helping others. After Clay County High School, she attended
Marshall College at age 17, and began her teaching career in rural Clay
Schools and Clay County Elementary School. After graduation from Marshall,
she married Martin Leiner of Huntington, WV, and they had 46 years together
until his death in 1992. She worked many years for the Heart Association
in Charleston, WV, and was active with the American Heart Association of
University Women (AAUW). During WWII, she worked for Glen L. Martin Company
in Baltimore, MD. In February, 1953, she and Marty moved into Edgewater
Apartments on Kanawha Boulevard and lived there until their deaths. Everyone
at Edgewater Apartments and Marvins (a nearby restaurant) knew Happy and
Marty. Two sisters preceded her in death: Della Moore and Frances Clagg;
three brothers: Delbert, Brooks, and Arnold Steorts.
Survivors include five sisters, and their husbands;
Golda Langston of Spartanburg, SC, Marjorie and Kent West of Neptune Beach,
FL, Loretta and Ken Ayers of Tallahassee, FL, Patricia and Clyde Casey
of Ft. Myers, FL,
Roberta Legg of Lousiville, KY; brother and his
wife, Robert and Gladys Steorts of Chesapeake, VA; sister-in-law, Jonnie
Steorts of Winterhaven, FL, brother-in-law, Dr. Sam Clagg of Huntington,

July 3 2003 Larry A. Dawson, Sr., 60, of
Lorain, OH, died June 25, 2003, in Orlando, FL. He was born on May
20, 1943, in Clay, WV, to the late Delmar and Mildred Hisel Dawson.
He was employed as a painter, and was a retired US Army Veteran.
Survivors include his son, Larry A. Dawson, Jr., of Tampa, FL; daughters,
Misty Dawson and Michelle Dawson, both of Lorain; brothers, Dale Dawson
of Clarksburg, Ernie (B.B.) and Mike, both of Clay; sister, Betty Fankhouser

June 29 2003 Charles E. Duffield,
72, of Duck, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at his residence. He was
born on May 17, 1931, in Widen to the late Flem and Glendora Duffield.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Steve.
He was a retired construction worker, and a veteran of the US Air Force.
Survivors include his sons; Keith, Dwayne, Gerald, and Neil of Duck, Terry
of Clay, Glenn of Valley Fork, and Arnold of Waynesville, NC; daughters,
Tammy Singleton of Heaters, Joy Duffield and Deanna Dawson of Duck; ex-wife,

88, of Wallback, died June 22, 2003, at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center, Ivydale. He was born on March 18, 1915, in Calhoun County to the
late Henry A. and Emma Jarvis May. He is retired from Union Carbide,
a World War II Army Veteran, and a member of Rogers Fork Baptist Church.

June 19 2003 Mr. Clyde Edward McCune,
73, of Maysel, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Cambridge Health
& Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge, Ohio. He was a retired installer
for Charleston Tile & Marble Co., a Veteran of the US Army, and attended
the Maysel Community Church. He was born November 20, 1929, in Charleston,
to the late Ona Davis and McClellan McCune. In addition to his parents,
he was also preceded in death by his Wife: Edna Marie King McCune on September
22, 1999, whom he married March 18, 1958, and a step-granddaughter, Stacy

driver, and Clay County Sheriff. He was a member of the Clay County Lodge

May 6 2003 Mrs. Dollie E. Lyons, 71, of
Maysel went home with the angels to be with our Lord May 4, 2003, after
a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving family who will miss her
deeply.
Dollie was born November 10, 1932, at Sycamore
Creek to James and Locie Osborne. Today she is in Heaven with her parents.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters,
Vernia Pritt, Reba Wyant, Beverly K. Wyant, and Mildred Brown; brother,
Roscoe Gibson; and her step-father, Edward Wyant.
She was a homemaker,
formerly a driver for Anwar Eye Clinic, and also drove people back and
forth from doctor's appointments. She was always readily available if any
one needed her assistance, and was known by most people in and around Clay
County for her willingness to help others any way she could.

Master Sergeant USAF Ret., Alfred Carl Triplett,73,

Clay, passed away May 3, 2003, at his residence after an extended illness.
He joined the Army Air Force in January, 1946, and served 26 active years
and 4 years in the Reserves. He retired July 1, 1972, after serving in
France, Germany, England, and Thailand. He was a veteran of WWII, Korean,
and Vietnam Wars. He was the son of the late Lee "Poppy" Triplett and Lula

Jackie Ramsey, 84, of Charleston,
died Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at Valley
Health Center, South Charleston.
She was born on March 30, 1918, in Roane County
to the late Patrick and Ada Rogers. She was employed as a companion of
elderly people. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and
Jim Hudkins of Buckhead, GA; brother, Leo Taylor of Charleston; sister,
Maysell Summers of Waldorph, MD; grandchildren, Michael Hudkins, James
Hudkins II, and Jeffrey Scott Hudkins;4 great-grandchildren. Graveside
service will be 2 pm Friday, February 21, 2003, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery,
Wallback, with Minister Harry Dobbins officiating. There will be no visitation
Anna Esther Mullins, 91, of Clay, died February
17, 2003, at home.
She was born on August 16, 1911, at Leatherwood
to the late Jasper and Eunice Stewart. She was also preceded in death by
her husband, Delbert Mullins. She is survived by several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday, February
20, 2003, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Ralph Lane officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore.
