Grand Opening of Our Future
June 8th 2024
Our long time dream
came true June 7th with the ribbon cutting ceremony over
at the Rail Explorers USA Train Depot in Dundon. That
dream was marketing County Clay to the world, to let
people know how beautiful our hills and valleys are.
Just like any large mall, there has to be an
anchor store. For us, the Elk River, Lake Sampson, ERTS,
fishing and such, they needed to be tied together for a
true weekend tourism plan. The Rail Explorer
operation does that in a professional way. It is our
anchor store.
We still have some short comins' like
overnight accommodations and specialty shops to fleece
more of the tourist dollars. All that takes time to grow
but rest assured, those much needed additions, they will
come along. Some of the old farts that live here boldly
proclaim, there ain't no money in it for locals. Those
mouthy folks are dumbarsses. The Explorers operation has
close to 20 on the payroll now with more coming. Those
hundreds of tourists will drop bunches of money for gas,
beer, food, etc. When locals set up their own roadside
shops, set up nice places to eat, open handmade craft
shops, even more $$$ will enter our struggling
economy. Don't forget the kayaking possibilities, bike
rentals, and horseback rental ride on ERTS.
We got lucky with the Rail Explorers. They
are professional and know how to make a pleasurable
experience for one and all.
Just like Norman Wilson used to say, we could
screw up an anvil, this golden opportunity is here and
it's up to us NOT to blow it.
