HONEY HOLES

Without much in the way of fanfare, a nice stream restoration project has  been in progress along Buffalo Creek. More specifically, like for those wanting to see what's going on... out at Cressmont, turn on Swandale Road and drive about 1 mile.
Known as "cross veins", the idea is form the stream into something that will self wash itself and keep silt, mud, from slowing down the flow.  With Buffalo Creek already a little too warm to sustain trout thru the heat of the Summer, the increased channel flow should help the wittle wigglers stay alive. If you look closely, in the center of each cross vein, a five foot deep pool has been dug out. That deeper section should add even more to the livability
Currently Buffalo Creek is stocked by the State of W Va four times during the Spring months. With the additional flow and deeper sections now in place, who knows, maybe the number of stockings will increase.
What's so important about the project?
Trout fisherman add to our local economy. Also, combine the notion of trout fishing with riding the rail cars, kayaking on the Elk River... BINGO, that's a enough entertainment for an overnight stay in County Clay.

Think it's just a waste of tax dollars that will wash away during the first Spring flood? Well, it might but keep in mind, those boulders are upwards of 7000 pounds each and they are double stacked.
