Embarrassing Commission Just the Norm

For decades locals have contended, everything happens here, this is the Great Nation of Clay, they can get by with anything. Spoken in jest but the realty is, it ain't funny but that's how many appointed and elected leaders think.
A few leaders over the years have tried to follow the rule of the land. Most don't. Those that do try and follow the law, we get rid of them real quick. Blue bloods can't take a chance on having someone like that in charge, out of their control. Back when the Communicator newspaper was reporting on local crapola, we reported the wayward ways often.
Other ways of old include revenge. Pee off some one and nothing else, job qualification or not, that revenge pay back factors in.
One time Commissioner and full time nice guy, Peter Triplett, got in that fix. Doing the right thing would not be tolerated in Clayberry as we called it back. After leaving office, Pete needed a job. He was nearly broke. With his sharp mind, he was a shoe in for the 911 Dispatcher opening. Local leadership rejected him even tho he was qualified 100%.
It took a friend that lived out Harrison to force the issue. The older guy went to a setting Commissioner, and told him, if you don't hire Pete, you will never get elected again in this County nor will your school Levy pass.
A few days later, Triplett had a job and had made it thru a rough time.
That's how rotten this County truly was and it remains the same today.
Let's talk about the Dec 9th 2024 County Commission meeting where discussion / vote was on approving a  tow truck rotation system. State Code Chapter  26 , Article something or other, provides along these lines: If there are more than one towing company in this County, the towing call outs must be divided, rotated, between the companies. Sounds reasonable until you look at it in detail.
Logan Towing, from over in Hico, sort of meets the qualifications to be on that rotation list except, they are located over an hour away from County Clay needs.
Our long time local company is King's Wrecker Co which is located in Maysel. King's often does favors for no charge. Like, towing County Govt and School System cruisers, trucks, buses) for no charge.
Of Logan Towing, we said "sort of meets the qualifications."
A couple of the local Commissioners have owner Fran King on their shirt list. She's in the mud because while she was on the County Commission, she often voted against stupid discussions. She often brought out in public questionable deeds and votes by the other two elected officials.
They had to F with Fran and they decided to do so by drawing in an out of county company to get half the $$$.
Before you stop reading, here's the part that really affects you.
Tow companies start charging when they leave their home lot. Get it? Every time 911 calls out Logan Towing, you will get at least a couple hours added to your bill. There is also the delay in service issue while you wait out in the cold for the truck to arrive.
And, let's say they tow your wrecked vehicle to their home yard in Hico and you want to get your belongings... you have to make a long drive over and back for the retrieval.
And finally, King's Wrecker pays local taxes. Logan Towing does not.
Finally, other than vote for better elected officials, there is something you can do now. When you call 911, or when a Badge calls for a tow truck, be firm and demand they call King's Towing. That's completely legal to do and should save you (and your insurance provider) some real dough.
Duane Legg takes his seat on the CCC Jan 1st replacing Commissioner Kinder who was defeated during the November General Election. We have high hopes for Legg.
The master mind behind the questionable CCC dealings is David Schoolcraft. With his true form visible after a couple years in office, we think it's time for Schoolcraft to bail out. The sooner the better for the sake of this Land of Little.
