Black Day for AW

July 26th was a beautiful day, dry, warm.. a perfect day for heading over to Lowes to purchase some building materials. With a truck load of wood, AW headed back up the four lane and got in the old Rt 19 turn lane to take the Triplett Ridge short cut back home. That was around noonish.
Setting back about three vehicles waiting to make the left turn, his turn came to cross the asphalt and that was it. Lights out!!!. From Friday mid day until the next afternoon, there is a total black out for the lad. Almost no memory of what happened. Gone!
Still piecing events together based on three eye witness accounts and a little from the investigating Badge, sounds like: an SUV was coming South on 19 weaving between cars and driving at a high rate of speed. That vehicle driven by a senior citizen from Buchanan smashed the H out AW's  pick em up truck pushing it down the road toward Summersville.
The driver of the SUV did not make it. According to reports from those at the accident site, some thought AW was also dead.
Compliments quick response from JanCare Ambulance, first responders, passing motorists, Summersville Hospital and a whirlybird flight to Ruby Memorial in Morgantown, the retired Ace Cub Reporter, made it.
After five days in intensive care, AW made it home on July 30th. Since then in-home health have be been keeping track of healing while AW slowly got some of his wits back in order.
And then there's Matt.. You know, Marshall Dillon. During the last couple weeks of watching Gunsmoke, we've witnessed the guy shot in the upper vest 13 times and a couple more times thru his upper left sleeve. Once even Ms Kitty announced Dillon was dead. After all that, after the commercial, that Top Badge was back in the saddle and ready for the next batch of bad guys. Wish it was like that in real life!
Now 15 days since the wreck, it's time to go back to WVU for follow ups on August 11th and 12th. Something about a new foot cast, finding out why his shoulder ain't working right, checking on the concussion and sore neck come to mind.
If all goes well, the lad should be back behind the keyboard by the end of this coming week.
Thanks for all the calls and well wishes !
