Visiting
Adair West Virginia
July 14 2020
Adair was once a thriving
community complete with a school and store. Getting in and out
of the place was via the BC&G RR. Today the name remains
and that's about it except for the Adair Cemetery. The
spot was mentioned during the July 13th BDA meeting. Maybe
most famous is the wet weather water fall there. The above pic
is the view from atop the waterfall looking down.
Adair is located around 6 miles up the tracks from
Dundon. It currently serves as the turn around spot for the
pedal car rides. To get there, you either ride the rails, hoof
it, or come down Cherokee Drive if you have a stout four wheel
drive vehicle. Stout is the key word.
With lots of shade and a picnic table, it serves riders well
as a break on the tourism ride.
Situated on the banks of Buffalo Creek, there's a couple long
established camping spots which are well kept and clean.
There was a time when Buffalo Creek ran black from mine waste.
That ain't the case today. It's beautiful!
Adair Cemetery is one of the best groomed grave yards in the
county
