Fresh Trout on Buffalo
April 24 2023
There's a
new adventure for anglers on the Elk River Trail along Buffalo
Creek. The main line , the hiking biking horseback riding
trail runs along the mighty Elk. The just rehabbed spur line,
Buffalo Creek and Gauley Railroad line, is prepared to accept
tourist rail rides later this year.
Now in addition to riding some kind of rail bus, rail
bike, ride, the offering includes trout fishing along the
rails. The stocked section is around 8 miles long.
A few
hundred pounds of fresh trout were stocked on April 24th in
the most remote sections of Buffalo Creek along the just
rebuilt railroad tracks. The idea is for die hard fishermen to
get away from the rest of the world and enjoy a day of
wilderness fishing second to none.
Wittle fishys getting a headache and soon
to have sore lips
The stocked
section is now from Dundon up creek to the Sand Fork bridge.
Just above is a sampling dropped into Buffalo Creek in Dundon.
That's the first stocking in many years on the rural section
of the State Park.
No this isn't DNR doing the drop. This stocking
was paid for by Living Water Resort & Conference Center
which is soon to be constructed near the Pierson Sawmill
just down river from the Town of Clay. Yelp, that's right.
the newcomer hasn't even broke dirt yet but knows the worth
of drawing more tourists into County Clay. The Clay Business
Development Authority (BDA) and the W Va Rail Authority
provided the manpower to get the rascals up the creek.
