The Return of Dave
Board Prez Dave Mullins was back
up front Monday March 9th during the Clayberry School Board meeting. When
Boardster Cheryl White entered the room, she walked over and hugged Mullins.
From the other end of the table, Boardster Dave Pierson yelled out, Watch
out, she just came back from a cruise ship!!. Laughter was heard around
the room.
Before the meeting got underway at 6pm,
there was discussion on the licensing and safety of using charter buses
instead of school buses for out of county trips. We've been
down that road before with Dave Mullins leading the charge on using extra
duty school bus drivers for those long trips. Back during those exchanges,
the Pentagon felt charter bus use was actually cheaper and just as
safe as local drivers.
Now for the meeting.
The peanut gallery was packed with
high schoolers just back from the We the People contest where they placed
first for the 6th year in a row. Teacher Phil Dobbins (pic below) brought
in the winners for a victory lap in front of the Board. He and the kids
were there seeking $$$ to attend and compete in the national level competition.
From Dobbins: 16 students are in the team;
they have worked hard; this is 6th year of winning for CHS on the state
level; they have raised $8500 so far for the nationals; that competition
will be held April 24 thru 28; the corona virus is a big concern and maybe
cancel the competition; and, finally, Dobbins made assurances, "I will
make sure it's safe."

There was no update on this project nor any other project mentioned during
the regular

to get down to real business and go into secret time for a personnel matter.
