New
BC&G RR OWNER
March 25 2021
Lot's of
Clayonians said, that hiking trail thang will never happen.
Well, a big chunk of it is already in place and being used by
1000's of people.
Another segment of the plan is to keep the old BC&G
Railroad for a tourist train ride attraction plus, add a
hiking trail right beside it. Again, that crap ain't going to
happen, it costs way to much $$$.
Sit down readers. During the March 24th County
Commission meeting, discussed turned to who actually owns the
old track system.
County Clerk Connie Workman did some diggin' and keep
up with, turns out, the 18+ mile stretch of track was sold on
Dec 23, 2021. The new owner is the West Virginia State Rail
Authority. The stretch of property runs from Dundon to near
Widen, Robinson Run area. Sell price was $1,825,000.
Why the W Va Railroad Authority? For those that don't
know, railroad easements are 100% always held by that
Authority, forever. The thinking is, there may be a time
down the road that the railroad may be rebuilt, needed again.
Once an easement is gone, built on, cut up into small parcels,
it would be next to impossible to reclaim.
So........... for those thinking, they ain't going to
do anything with the notion of an 18 mile long of railroad and
hiking wilderness trail, that $1.8 M investment on top of $4.5
M from FEMA to repair bridges and ties, we think the naysayers
are wrong.
Here's the deed.
