RAILS ARE ALIVE!!
Feb 12 2023
Sometime in 1966, the last commercial steam train
carrying logs made its way down the BC&G RR tracks.
Since then the tracks deteriorated to ashes and rust. No
one ever expected to see the tracks rebuilt and in use.
Well! We've got an update on the new and improved
BC&G spur line from Dundon to Bridge 4 at Robinson.
After two years of construction, on Feb 11th, the
first rail buggy (called a Jitney) pulling three cars
made it's way from the Dundon ball field up to Robinson.
The 20 or so on board held a picnic at the far end of
the tracks before returning to Clay.
About 99% of the FEMA paid for project is done
and ready for use.
Spearheading the rebuild, the Business
Development Authority (BDA) is readying to bid out a
contract or two for private businesses to set up a
tourism based rail adventure. The time line for letting
the proposal bids is sometime in May 2023.
That rail adventure could be a steam engine,
diesel engine, rail bus, or rail rider operation.
There's also the possibility the successful bidders
could melt together a combination of more than one ride.
Currently there are 8 companies sniffing around
and showing interest in the operation.
